For the first time I'm seeing a genuine person explaining interior so well with contents to the point , no unnecessary talks . It's worth watching you every time ❤
I love what you're saying about taking time. It's easy to want to finish a room right away but then you could miss out on other items that might look just as nice or better. Plus, it might be expensive.
Thank you for being such an excellent teacher. Not only is your channel helpful, its also very enjoyable and classy. Your choice of topics and accompanying pictures and videos is spot-on, and it is clear how much work you put into each and every video. Much appreciated :)
Watching the video empowered me to reassess my own living room design, especially regarding color choices and the use of accessories, helping me make informed decisions to enhance the overall look and feel of the space.
I have no new pieces in my home. I shop at high end furniture resale shops, estate sales, antique shops, garage sales , eBay and auctions. My furniture and accessories have been acquired, individually, throughout the years. My preference is quality and timeless pieces. Comfort and durability is also paramount for seating, such as sofas, chairs and beds.
Your videos are extremely enjoyable and informative. I would love to watch one dealing with incorporating antiques with more contemporary, comfortable pieces.
I don’t understand how people can buy sofas and living room chairs online. The only way I know if I’m interested in those items is to actually sit on them.
Same for me. I bought my bed linens online from the Company Store and they are fabulous. And my coffee mugs. Even 4 different rugs. But not my sofa and chairs! I went to stores and sat on them! Those things i feel, you need to try before you buy.
Thanks for all of the tips, this helps a lot! I'm clearing my living room and Mom's guiding me through each side and corner. I have a one-bedroom apartment, and I sometimes wonder if I should risk nailing things in the wall, like support for better lighting. I suppose I can fill in the holes whenever I leave, but I get so scared. LOL
"parting the Red Sea"....LOL!...LOL!....thanks for that comic moment....I see that THAT is a mistake many people make that's why YOU are the expert and we are not....thank you for the wise advice.
My problem with pulling furniture away from the wall is 1. It doesn’t work in my living room, 2. It leaves ugly gaps showing cords from lamps, etc. I like wide open, empty space in the middle. Since removing a console table from behind my sofa and pushing it against the wall, my living room feels clean and uncluttered. I have a small home with open concept. I also watch my grandchildren and I love to have a place where they can bring their toys out and play ❤ With that being said, I have been enjoying and learning from your channel. This is just something I cannot do.
Thanks for the pointer to Rayon! Having a free option to doodle a bit will be super helpful! I'm fine visualizing the overhead view in the traditional ways (pencil, paper, painter's tape around the room), but I have trouble seeing certain angles in my head. (Apparently the free version of Rayon does not do 3D projections, but it's handy for 2D.)
I love the black triangular lampshade floor lamp at your back of the video. Actually I’ve been trying to find such kind of lamp shade shape! I like geometry and mix & match is my favourite. May I know for where could I get it? Thanks so much for the video you do for us.
Love all your videos!! Please make a video for the people who have dog crates/kennels in the house! Preferably large dog crates and how to make it work in a living space!

@@lucys7311 🤣 I see! Like everything, there's a basic version and a premium one, which I am sure has a lot more features. The basic one is pretty good for someone who is just trying to figure out how to set their furniture, and you can look at different layouts without actually having to move heavy stuff around.
That high tv thing really surprises me very often. I watch quite a lot of interior design videos and a lot of the time the tv is mounted way too high. I noticed that it's mainly in American homes. For me (I'm from the Netherlands) it's normal to put the tv approximately on eye level. Is that a cultural thing maybe?
Hi... Can you please share the link to the artificial plant that I see behind you in the video. Also, if you could let me know what size of plant I should go with?
I would like a suggestion on how to use armchairs to sit in front of the TV set, I live in Japan and I can't find a sofa that suits my taste and at the same time I want to avoid placing a sofa directly in front of the set because in most Sometimes we sit on the floor in front of the coffee table. Another problem is that the dining +living room has 6 doors and only one wall to support the TV. Thank you for your attention.
Been planning how to decorate my first, own apartment when it will be ready in a few months and have been loving your relating but informative videos. If possible, would want some advice on what to place at the wall opposite my couch in my living room. Currently there are only plans to have a pair of speakers on tall platforms there but am stumped on what else to put to balance out that wall as I don't plan to have a tv.
It's too bad that, for many people, the option of switching out furniture doesn't exist. Incomes can be too low or costs can be too high to justify "wasting" money on a new object when the old (paid for) object still functions. Sure, people can try to sell their old junk but they'll never get what they orginally paid for it. And sure, people can try to buy someone else's old junk - but finding the right old junk at the right cost is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I think the hodge-podge of items that don't follow the golden ration and either lack color or have incompatible colors are probably the reasons many don't like their homes.
Any advice on how to find smaller budget pieces that are not junk? I find it so difficult to find decent quality that's not super expensive or super cheap looking.
Ahh it usually takes time, so number 1 is patience :D. But in general thrift shopping and second hand. If you want something new, brands sometimes have stock clearance, or perhaps wait for sales period for better prices.
I live in a very small house. My living room has two large windows with windowsills that stick out from the wall. So, technically, my furniture is away from the wall but against the windowsill. Do you think the visual space between the furniture and the wall is enough, or should I pull the couch and chair away from the windowsill? P.S. Love, love, love the checklist!
I think it's fine. Probably more important to make sure the sofa is not too high back (i.e. around windowsill height or just slightly more). The windowsill can also become a "surface" to put items if needed. I'm glad you liked the checklist :)
I have 2 small dogs that sleep on the back of the love seat against the wall under our front window. 😊. As long as they live, they will have that space. ❤
Home By Me is also an awesome tool to design your home - it has a ton of features, you can see everything in 2D and 3D and even snap realistic pictures to see how it will turn out. I've been using for years now, never had issues, and I have a lot of fun ideas there.
The "golden ratio" is mostly BS, in the images 5:53 the ratio do not match and are just scaled in to fit a shape, in other cultures like in Japan where other shapes as a rectangle is prefered the "golden ratio" seldom fit in. You can often get same result be "rule of thirds" or any rule that create a symmetry or repeated pattern.
Hey Reynard. I have a small living room/kitchen apartment. I live alone and don't have many visitors, my choice lol, occasionally my mum and her husband may call. I currently have an 18yr old 2 seater sofa which is still quite big in the room but it is uncomfortable now and has a low back, and I need something to support my back and my head now I'm older. Question: should I buy two high back armchairs, or another high back two seater sofa? I also live at the top of 6 flights of stairs with no lift. There isn't room for a sofa AND a chair
I previously lived in a situation similar to yours. Getting furniture up narrow stairs and through narrow doors was the primary decision factor. I purchased (and still have) a loveseat (2 seater sofa). However, two arm chairs would also work, especially if you have room for an ottoman on at least one of them. Go for comfort. I personally like to have living room furniture that is comfy enough for a nap. 😊
I'd always go for function first. So if armchairs are better for you, then go for it. But, can also look into modular sofas (detachable, so they ship smaller and can go up the stairs) that comes in modules. Considering small space and high back, I'm leaning towards two armchairs (and ottoman for legs would be nice).
I'm currently studying color theory and making over my living room. Top 3 colors that have been popular recently are Grays, Oranges, Browns (natural wood colors), and Greens. I'm doing my living room in shades of green with some pops of orange/wood colors.
