the only thing you guys could have done was have more testing, but you can never have enough and its normally out of your control anyway so you guys did all you could. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!
Nothing, I’d say the wise thing was to pull it in before that last run since the engine was being troublesome, but knowing me I would have raced it anyway if I was in your shoes 😂
Huge bummer to see the engine come apart at the end, but thats racing. Hopefully a rethink of the bottom end and maybe a lower rpm limit will make for a good run up the mountain next year. Looking forward too it!
@@NEVER-LIFT haha.. yep. All my left over dsp pension and part time work wage after rent is currently going on making a old school bus liveable to keep a roof over our heads.
Commenting just to say 600hp out of a 4AG is wild, and I don't think people who generally know what a 4AG is appreciate that enough. Not downplaying the engine, just saying it's punching well above its weight at that point. I have one that I'd like to be at around 220hp with a turbo in my '85 Corolla some day. I appreciate the effort. Matt seems like the best to me. I haven't personally seen a more dedicated 4AG builder since Tadao Sakurai from those old videos. Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks mate, Mat is definitely one of the few I trust with my motor If you’re impressed by the 600hp figure Mat is currently building a 800hp setup for his ke70 I started documenting it on my channel
I watched the series and couldnt put the phone done each time an episode came out. You guys are crazy doing the 18hr trek all the to hasslegren. True dedication! Thanks for putting the videos out Nikola. Theres nothing else that compares, I love the 4age!
Dude, what great progress. Apparently at the end, you found out what that noise was all about, brothers. Unfortunate, but that's life. Loving that 4age!
Great video, Great Journey. I give you guys tons of credit for pushing though. I will have to go back and watch the other videos. Maybe it tells why the team didn't stay with the Mazda engine that was in the Swift 016.
Love to see an FA at Pike's Peak! Funny our shows have the same name except you already made it there! Hope to see you during this upcoming race! P.s.: consider running the Mazda engine from the gen 2 FA! Those 4AGEs are a maintenance headache.
12:30 wrench falls off the car on the way to the starting line 😮. Hey Mirl it’s Eric’s younger brother. Bummer for the car. Good to see you doing well😎

Seen a few of your videos and I have the utmost respect for what you guys are doing. I have a question for you guys. Why build an engine that will break a Conrod rather than build a bulletproof engine that can do 10k rpm . I don't know if you can have your own rods design but I think there is a flaw in the design to make it strong enough. Just my question don't hate me please 😂
Yes there were definitely flaws in the design but we needed to work with what we had because of time constraints Next motor will be alot closer to bulletproof but with so many variables we can only hope it holds together
Mate what a journey. I'm not familiar with the power plant you guys are running? But it looks like it's got some very tight tolerances with your valves? That being said, the failure was a rod in the end? My true recommendations as a CNC machinist though (and is seems to be a common trend so I'm going to mention it) is DO NOT go CNC machined alloy rods under any circumstances! They weight reduction isn't worth their unreliability? ALWAYS go with a H beam steel steel rod. If you want to "weight reduce" that rod, go get it shot peaned..... only if necessary, bur otherwise install the strongest rods possible; not the lightest rods. I would accept titanium as an excuse for alloy but who has that money to burn lol. Cams? I'm not sure if the ones you have are cast cams that have been built up and ground down to spec? But that is one part I would recommend getting cut by CNC from billet 👍 If those cams are cast steel; if you drop them they will shatter to pieces......100% no joke! Just think about that for a moment in context 😉 if anything just flag it as a possible future failing point and potentially to be upgraded? The heat in the build and grind causes micro fracturing of the cast and can be the cause of snapped cam? Given the closeness of your valves and tolerances I thought it is worth while mentioning? There is plenty of video clips showing this on RUclips. I'm a rotary guy so it's not something I need to content with on my RX7 lol. I do know plenty about motors though and those valve cut outs look gorgeous 😍 sweet mother of God. Very thing else is looking juicy AF! Last thing as a fellow Aussie I thought of one last recommendation and I believe it will make night and day improvement on your car again? Turbosmart electronic wastegate! Get on that ASAP. All the BS of conventional wastegates and more importantly boost control issues with base spring pressures and trying to mitigate around that with nematic control........ Those headaches get thrown in the trash and I highly doubt you will ever go back to a conventional waste gate and control system? I bet money on it in fact! Very last thing that Prairie dog at the end is so cute! Lookn up Poppy the Prairie dog on RUclips shorts and it will melt ya heart 😍
Let us know your thoughts guys, what would you have done differently if you were in our shoes?
the only thing you guys could have done was have more testing, but you can never have enough and its normally out of your control anyway so you guys did all you could. If it was easy everyone would be doing it!
@@jakeparker8254 well said, with unlimited time and money I guess we would have enough parts and man power to build a second car

What an amazing experience! 4AGE power!!!
Just got my 4age back from Hasselgren to put in Toyota WSR. Thank you for my crank and rods!
4ag ftw!! I can't wait until I can afford to get into my new engine build for my twincharged aw11!
With more money the 4ag community would be something else but everyone’s broke including me 😩

We all have a soft spot for the old 4age and Mirl chose it because of its small size and low centre of gravity
