I didn't capture everything at Drag Challenge so we decided to turn the camera on and talk about some of the things that happened behind the scenes.

People who have never restored cars before, having parts availability doesn't not mean it changes the price of a car. If anything it would mean that they will increase in cost. Replacement chassis and body panels don't mean a car gets cheaper. Look at muscle car or Beetle car restoration you can get newly manufactured body panels and chassis from factories in SA,EU, & Taiwan. Once you use modern metal components the price of your builds go up cause it's a sign of a proper restoration and the price of your build grows with it. It's different from performance parts. Putting money into a engine or suspension is sunk cost but body restoration is actually value gained.
i want to run a honda civic ef sedan with a b18 block and b16 head, with a modified interchiller jackson racing supercharger and jackspania UEL headers. for me its not about having massive power, i just want like have my own way of expressing what kind of car i would build

Hi may I ask, what were the troubles you encountered with the 4AGE swap on the E30? Was there a trouble with the drive shaft like the 3gs beams or trouble with the mount on? Any particular detail that needs to be looked at or changed? Turbo or non turbo (if non turbo I was taking of daily driving it - The ethos is there are plenty of 4age in my country and no 3gs in sight, maintaining a bmw engine though is hell expensive. If I could convert most parts to toyota or accesible one I would do so. The only important thing to me is that E30 is a rear wheel drive and if I can run it on rack and pinion, make the car lighter and more functional plus bit of performance when necessary. Any way to contact you?

Each time I watch these videos I learn something new. I have 2 FA Engines,1 Loyning and 1 Hasselgren. Both of mine run the TRD cast aluminum drysump oil pan but I see yours was a billet made pan. I would think that was made to add a little extra torsional rigidity to the engine.
This is incredible.. I’ll never be able to afford a running 86 so I might just build this

Just a question on the engine. Do you run a forged crank. If yes where do you get them
he's running a standard OEM crank. Marine Cranks do the best cranks but be prepared to pay a premium.
Youd think the boost pressure would of kept coolant out of the cylinder. Maybe on exhaust it squirted in. How many hours did you get from 400hp spec?
@@fuzzayd4601 must have sucked in during the exhaust stroke... scavenged coolant with the exhaust velocity?

Even if engine protection worked, the car was still in gear and moving pretty quickly so hydro locking the motor couldn't have been stopped with engine protection. Mat's already made some big moves towards getting the car back on the road so look forward to a breakdown video and more driving content soon👍
@@NEVER-LIFT I wasn't meaning engine protection. I meant when Matt made the decision to send it, he was probably thinking "it will blow through the head gasket, we might have to dodgy deck the block or skim the head", he probably didnt think, the cylinders will fill up with coolant and spit the rods out the block :( Sounds good!! Hanging for the next video
@@ae86racer007 Oh I see. Honestly I had no idea how serious of a gamble it was but Mat said he's seen this happen many times before with RB engines, he knew what happened pretty much straight away. At least we know what not to do now 😅
Seeing as the rod still spins, do ya think the crank is salvageable for a shits and giggles tossup?
If it's still straight it should be ok
I wouldn't reuse it, considering you can buy brand new ones. I don't think its worth the risk.
We will do a teardown video and and show exactly what happened and what caused this fault so we can educate everyone on how to not have this happen to their own motor But no this crank won't be used again except for a trial fit crank for parts development
That sucks. Did you run larger studs? The Puerto Ricans I think were finding head lift problems between cylinders 20 odd years ago and I always wondered how baz got past the issue.
this motor was running standard size head studs, we've done a video series on his new engine which has half inch head studs you can find it on my channel under 800hp 4age build. Mat wants to do a breakdown video explaining what happened, the causes and the way he's going to fix it with the new engine, So be on the lookout for that video soon.
