Catching back up with these vids as I’ve just started pulling down my 16v from my ae86 for a rebuild. I’ll be doing a way more mild build but this gets me pumped for getting it done.
I havent even started watching and man i've been waiting for this build! Thank you so much for all the information and knowledge! Congratulations! I hope to meet you one day and build a badass engine! True inspiration! Thank you again!
Great video. I have my oil piped straight out the side of the oil pump, I take the bung out and put it in the back of the pump where the oil normally goes into the block and feed it back in the center of the filter mount with an external filter.
Always think of the worst and pray for the best was the first thing and only thing I was told when I built my first engine as 1st year apprentice on my own. You know your shit bro love the channel
I can't wait to be able to do my new build for my twincharger. Over the past few years I have collected a bunch of MRP goodies, sump, rods, 1/2" arp head studs, MRP o'ringed headgasket, water pump delete plate. I still need pistons and a heap of machine work. Will have to wait until we're living in the bus I am building before I can save for more parts etc. Very informative about the oil pressure setup, looks like I'll have to save for those extra bits now, specifically that oil pickup seeing I am using a MRP sump. Guess I could modify a oem one, but that one looks the biz! I really like the idea with the external pressure relief valve! Hylomar is the best shit, been using it for many years.
I have seen wetsump 4ages running 10,000rpm in drag cars with similar setups to this motor so unless it's a time attack or circuit car I won't be going dry sump
What a gold mine of info. Is there any reason you couldn't just clearance the back of the cam bridge? If an engine has been sitting for a long time you have take out the oil pressure sensors and use a barb to 1/8 bsp fitting and a hand oil pump to prime the engine. You can get a few psi of oil this way. I turn the engine over by hand with the cam cover off to confirm I'm getting good flow into the head.
@sixhunt I haven't found the limit of the main caps, I fixed that issue when I made the ati harmonic damper so I will push further until a see a main cap failure
@mtperformanceengines3508 OK cheers mate. I went through so much pain getting my girdle to fit well with good bearing clearances. Hopefully, it wasn't all for nothing 😅
Sweet I asked this question on the last video, good to know the reason why. Hope you don't find the limit without one too soon!! @@mtperformanceengines3508
@mtperformanceengines3508 the only issues I've ran into with 4ag's since playing with them is oil cavitation and destroying bearings and ovaling the bores. Do you see ovaling of bores much ? I only went girdle this time as I'll be turning it up. Probably would have been better off with one of your balancers instead. I'm just running a ross one.
Thank you for filming this process! I have learned a ton and Matt is an awesome teacher

Hell yeah brother
The oil pump section and pickup was super informative! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge!
Great video as always, the repaint sounds like should be a good series of videos 👍.
Super informative! Really enjoyed the video 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!

Glad to see you guys finishing this. I've been following you guys for a while. Can't wait to see it up and running. This gives me dreams for my 4AG :)

Great info on the oiling side of things. Any reason Mat you didn't go with a dry sump set up?

Mad vid. Slight shirt envy
Man i need to do this same build but with the 16v lol.
Hell yea
dont know if he mentioned it. but any reason not running a girdle ?

@@sixhunt my current motor at 489whp has no cap bracing or girdle, bashes limiter at 9200 rpm, I haven't broken a cap yet

Does matt remove engines from cars to build or do I have to remove the engine and ship it to him?
I don't pull motors, I can but I don't just because I don't have the space
