    The mountain is cruel, and the challenge is incredible. You can only know it by being there and done it yourself. I can feel the pain you guys had, but i can also confirm that once you make it, it pays off for all the sleep dept and countless hours wrenching, and midnight oil burned. Being there just on the line is one thing, reaching the checkered flag another. Long live the good old 4AGE!

    4ag is a “hero motor” because all us ae86, mr2, Corolla people only dream of making it to where this video took us. Congratulations to the technical achievements thus far, and showing up to race day. Will definitely be rooting for you and looking forward to the updates, and hopefully learn something along the way to improve my 4ag performance and reliability. Thank you

    I knew how this ended from the start but I still enjoyed watching it. With a year of prep time things will end up better.
    I think maybe the best thing that could come out of this besides a better result next year is even more advancement in 4a parts.

    Great series guys. Massive effort to get the car on the line for qualifying/race day and it's good to see it shared without sugar coating.
    In my experience the tight development timeline and the opportunity for a relaxed shakedown are hard to overcome. Everyone kept level heads and got on with the job which is a credit and you really had pretty poor luck!
    Good to also highlight that's it's difficult and important to keep your composure when officials throw a wild card at you 3 minutes before the start. That's on top of Super Karen who pinned you on tyre warmers (who's probably a volunteer and deserves full kudos for that). That's 100% the thing that fosters a driving mistake, forgotten harness strap, missed wheel nut, missed oil pressure warning etc.
    Do you use the nitrous at all for anything other than when you're off boost (like compensating for power loss at altitude as well as helping spool)? I imagine there'd be a bit of a balance with bottle size as much as other things.
    I was there a week before this event (bad timing) and seriously considering a trip with a cross kart I've got on order if it fits within a category, logistics etc.
    Like I said, massive effort and it sucks you didn't get a bit of luck fall your way!

      Thanks brother it was literally the hardest 2 weeks of my life when it comes to lack of sleep and stress but mirl never list his cool and his determination drove me to not want to quit, he is a true leader and you would follow him into war and let me tell you it was war with this car lol
      We where using nitrous for spool response and barometric is combated by boost so we learnt a few things on the hill like going oversize on the turbo as you will constantly damage turbos to overspeed if your running the turbo at full tilt @ sea level so loosing barometric means to achieve the same boost at half barometric means you need more speed so we broke a few turbos learning this
      We ended up using a turbo pid speed boost control at the end but we didn't really get a chance to use it but data logs showed it working

    Mirl is super chill early on at the point of the first valve train issue. He seemed to set the tone for chipping hard at each hurdle without over reaction on such a tight timescale. 👌
    Initial turbo failure, over speed possibly due to the throttle dump leaking?

    • @NEVER-LIFT
      @NEVER-LIFT  Год назад +2

      I think the overspeed was due to the intake leak we were chasing this whole time, Although our neighbour with the Porsche was having the same issue so the thinner air at the high altitude might also play a part.
      Mirls attitude was extremely admirable, I think he's developed an extremely high stress tolerance after all these years of racing.

    so next time when the engine builder tells you 8700, you listen lol tl:dr driver error way to much rpm and not enough rod bolt

  • @Ffakefriends
    @Ffakefriends 7 месяцев назад

    I cant beleive you guys used h beam rods made from china, matt you have argo rods (i beam) for your own build, why would you go h beam?! We used custom argo rods for 100% custom builds 20 years ago on sr's, gtrs and barras. H beam is for na i beam is for turbo. There is extensive data you are able to find online that shows this.
    I loved the episodes having had a 4age with itbs this was a build series like no other! But as soon as i saw the chinese h beams reving to the moon with a billion to 1 comp i knew this wasnt getting to the top. Unfortunate but you shoulda known matt. It was on you as head engineer/mechanic to tell the owner NO. max rpm is 11000-12000 MAX.. all tests should have been done on an engine dyno, as everyones tine wouldnt have been wasted. Though it was a fkn cool series, so there is that. Dont mean to sound like im having a go, but having worked of race cars in teams and 1000hp cars 20 years ago before tik too made it cool, this is what would have happened. Hindsights a bitch though.
    Thanks for the content none the less. 😊

      Carillo are made in USA and those rods where designed for hasslegren by carillo for this build, I personally wouldn't have used them and got custom I beams but time was of the essence so I trusted hasslgegren and carillo's decision to go with h beam
      Also I didn't like the rod bolt size or lack of harmonic damper but these are things that are getting changed for next time
