The interpreter is fantastic. Loved how they were able to communicate the excitement and emotion of Alaqua
Let's just hope she gets better treatment than from Fisk 😅 iykyk
@@korosekillsyo I get it cuz… kingpin ya know…. ☠️…. That was harsh 😂
Loved how *she. Come on.
@@korosekills Jimmy Fallon to the interpreter after the interview: You're dismissed.
@@TheGingiGamer no one cares
How nice of Jimmy to actually learn how to welcome Alaqua in ASL. That shows dedication and empathy.
Dont you mean ASL?
ALS is a disease
@@MrFalcon2009 it was stand for the American Sign hand gestures language
I think you mean ASL. ALS is something VERY different 💀
No, it means he did a three minute Google search to look good in front of other hearing people. I hope he actually tries to learn ASL in the future but all this comes across is as a cheap party trick.
I like that they went the extra step of making the segment fully accessible.
Along with translate voice background women's too was good views ever.
I love the actress and the fact that he had less of a chance to step on her interview by interrupting like he often does.
@@jatilqYES, was thinking it’s hilarious that Jimmy has to actually act authentic
I am happy the accessibility is being done, but it should just be a staple across the board for not just talent on stage, but disabled people tuning into these shows.
@@comicsauniversalalliance8669 It used to be a lot more common prior to closed captioning. Not nearly enough, mind you, but it was much more common then.
Can we just acknowledge what a phenomenal job the interpreter did during the interview?👏👏👏
I don't know this for sure, I'm hoping that she's worked with Alaqua and have a unique chemistry to convey emotion like she did.
@@bsquinneydeaf actors tend to have their own personal interpreters
There was a recent Queer Eye episode with a Deaf hero (Denton Mallas), and I saw a video of him today on his Instagram where he talked about the decision not to show the interpreters in that episode. Part of it was that people always tend to focus on and celebrate the interpreters, taking focus away from the person they're interpreting for. I have a ton of respect for interpreters (it's a tough job!), but 5 of the top 10 comments on this video are about how great the interpreter was. I'm now seeing Denton's point really clearly. The Tonight Show didn't focus the camera on the interpreter, didn't really acknowledge her at all beyond showing her doing her job, but she still got half the attention. She's not doing a performance here; her job is to provide communication access. It's understandable that hearing people tend to focus on the interpreter, the person who shares our native language, but ideally, all of this focus would be on Alaqua instead.
@@hopewilson7918 Valuable insight. Thank you for sharing this perspective. And Alaqua Cox is a badass beauty, to be sure!
I’m a Choctaw and they worked so closely with the tribe to get our culture and even origin story right it was amazing to see.
It was so cool to see and gripping! I'd love to learn more about your culture after seeing the show and hope it gets another season
That was really cool. I was a little worried when I read they had changed Maya (who is half Cheyenne in the comics) to Choctaw. Not because I minded the change but because I was not sure they were going to do a lot of research and do the culture justice but they really did do their homework.
I'm a sucker for Native American culture so I was ecstatic to learn about that fact as well. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy in my tumtum.
That's awesome. If only they hadn't wasted that effort by making a terrible show. I was hoping this would've been better.
@@rjones6080 I'm genuinely curious, what was it that you didn't like? I thought it was a sweet story about legacy/heritage and empowerment through hardship. I haven't kept up with marvel since infinity war so might be missing something
I love that Jimmy was forced to slow down and not interrupt during this interview. It was great to have Alaqua and her interpreter get out everything she wanted to say. And thank you for putting the interpreter onscreen when Jimmy was talking.
agreed! One of my least favorite things about Jimmy is he tends to cut off his guest and I would like to hear them talk. I know he has limited time and stuff, but its kinda off putting for me so I loved that he didn't here.
It’s the main issue with a “live” format show, graham norton feels like the best chat show mainly because graham knows the show is not about him, but also because the show films long and is then edited down. I went to a filming once and the interview portion was about an hour longer then what was seen on tv. These live formats are not edited so the presenter has to make sure everything stays on time.
This interpreter killeddd this. The quickness and ability to convey her emotion. I feel like I’m actually listening to Alaqua
That interpreter is amazing....Like she's signing and talking at the same time and is interjecting in almost near real time like as if Alaqua was actually talking herself. And it's so cool how she is able to portray emotions on both sides. I really felt like I was hearing Alaqua's voice.
@Pauly, ASL interpreter educator here and YES, she is pretty amazing and so glad to see some who aren't interpreters able to see that she's doing such a great job. She likely has most of what Alaqua memorized since they ask the same questions during every interview so she is probably just ready knowing what her answer will be. That is unlike when we are extemporaneously interpreting for someone for a one-time interaction.
Yeah and she sounds like I would assume the actress sounds. I like when interpreters sound like how I perceive the person sounds. I acknowledge it’s dumb and petty, but it makes immersing myself into the conversation easier.
Yes 100% to sound or look like a native-language user is the ultimate goal!!
Words cannot express how damn proud I am of Alaqua Cox.
God bless her in everything she does.

I love Fallon taking the extra step to learn some Sign Language, and the positive patience of the audience. I wish this kind of empathy was more prevalent all over, but this is a start
I love her and no idea why, I got emotional seeing her first-ever interview after Echo and now again I am getting emotional!

The woman was such a breath of fresh air amazing actor. Alaqua Cox character shows that there isn’t no agenda behind anything we just want good actors and good stories, Echo had all of that. The fact that Hawkeye was her first acting job is quite amazing then to get her own show wow super impressive.

Man good for her. I've kinda given up on the MCU but want to watch Echo now because of Alaqua Cox, she's inspiring.
That was an amazing interview. Brought tears to my eyes. She dominates every scene she's in. Incredible performances in both Hawkeye & Echo. Can't wait for season 2. I hope she's in Dardevil too!
Echo was just so damn well done. The storyline, the acting, the cinematography...and THE MUSIC. It gave me chills and goosebumps. I loved her character.
I’m brought to tears of joy watching this segment. Alaqua is a true inspiration. I wasn’t aware that Echo wasn’t an amputee, having been introduced to the character in her first appearance (sorry I don’t remember the timeline was she in her own show or part of another initially?) on D+. I look forward to seeing her 5 part storyline when I re-subscribe to D+ later this year. It saddens me that it’s only 5 episodes.
With the Marvels movie not doing so well, partly due in my opinion, to two of the characters having been introduced on D+ and not in the movies, I hope to see Alaqua on the big screen eventually and introduced to the mainstream moviegoers and hope her introduction on D+ not having a negative impact on a movie. Marvels also failed to reach boys because they’re not used to strong women leads. This needs to change.
Strong women roles in movies are needed! To heck with the men who don’t like to see them, many of us do! Alaqua as Echo can exist away from Kingpin, let’s see it.
She was introduced in the show Hawkeye! And I’m pretty sure she’ll be in the daredevil show too
That's right, Echo in the comics is not an amputee; the MCU added that portion to its portrayal to make the story match Alaqua. They also changed her abilities/powers, which I mention just in case you or someone else gets a wild hair and decides to read the comics. It is a very good run, starting in Daredevil #9 from 1999.
@chrisd7047 Thank you for including that information. When I was heavily into comics (Marvel in particular), I wasn’t a big fan of DD and missed this run. Knowing where to look, because I do indeed get wild hairs, is 99% of the battle. Just for my information; is this prior to or after Marvel’s Earth merger (similar to DC Comics Crisis storyline) of 2 worlds? That’s where I stopped my collection as I didn’t like where I perceived Marvel was headed.
Lmao
That interpreter is amazing. I literally felt like it was Alaqua talking the whole time. Amazing job on your part too Jimmy.
Talented lady. Hope to see more of her in stuff.
