I believe Christopher fell in love with her at first sight in real life. I "hope" they would have ended up together forever if it wasn't for his ex-girl friends pregnancy that put them apart. Both have described the other as their greatest love ever besides their wife/husband at the time I have read. A perfect cast and couple forever !
Yes, she was. I saw this for the first time when I was in my early teens and have loved this movie ever since. I still remember exactly where I was when I saw it: We were living in Hampton, VA. I was at the Clawson's home (family friends). Excluding Mrs. Cynthia Clawson, the entire family went out of town, and stayed at the house with Mrs. Clawson so that she would not be alone. It was 8:00 p.m. or saw when it came on.
Very underrated film that doesn't get credit. It's never on TV and I was introduced to it 3 years ago. Very good film. Gives me Titanic vibes the more I think of this film.
One of the most romantic films of all time.....❤💏🕰🎬🎼 Somewhere In Time. Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour, they truly made this film moving with their on screen chemistry. When I think of this film a poem by the British poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, published in 1850 comes to mind......I quote " I hold it true, whate'er befall, I feel it when I sorrow most, 'Tis better to have loved and lost. Than never to have loved at all. I truly wish they had made more films like this for the romantics out here!! ❤😊🎻🎬🎼📜✍
Somewhere in Time is my very favourite movie. Jane Seymour hasn’t looked more beautiful and Christopher Reeve is a heartthrob. The music is perfect in this scene and the score makes me cry every time I hear it especially with what happened to Christopher. Life can be cruel sometimes.
I am in Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages, Florida right now.. The date is July 11, 2024. There is a replica of The Grand Hotel here. I was at The Grand Hotel in Michigan in 1962 when I skated in Ice Capades. I walked the the hotel here and it brought back such memories. The movie is a once in a lifetime movie and the hotel is wonderful.
She says it as if it’s a police interrogation. She does a lot of overacting in this movie, but I don’t blame Jane Seymour, she’s a talent; the director must’ve told her to go over the top with her intensity.
They are match made in heaven, when god created the most beautiful and most handsome man, so they created this two...I love this film....watch them 100 times again and again.
You need to put a warning label at 48s like "do not operate heavy machinery while watching". When she's looking up, her eyes causes my lower body to turn into mush. Bette Davis doesn't even come close to those eyes.
He SERIOUSLY thinks it’s a good idea to tell her, as a complete stranger, that he “knows everything about her,” and has the NERVE to look shocked when she’s creeped out??
But why did she say "Is it you?" She had a feeling that he isn't just any old creep. She knew that the man of her dreams was coming and asked that question.
The background music for this dance scene was originally "In the Good Old Summertime". For some reason, later copies of the movie changed it to "Oh You Beautiful Doll". Does anyone know why?
I recorded this movie onto VHS back in c.1998, and purchased the DVD in c.2020. Both versions have "Oh You Beautiful Doll" playing in the background. Where exactly did you hear the other song? On television? At the cinema??
This was the best love story Ive seen. It was such a underrated movie it should have gotten the credit it deserved. I dont know what it did get better ratings except I think the movie didnt get enough advertisement most people never heard of thr movie the producers/writer/backers who ever does the advertisement screwed up by not putting more money into advertising this movie. It was by chance I seen it years ago I also never heard if the movie i believe it was on sale or special rental back when there was blockbuster movie rentals i read the info on the movie and decided to take a chance on it. So glad I did its still one of my favorite movies to me its on the same lines as The Last Of The Mohicans without all the war talking about the love story and Titanic. This movie is on the lines of a good love story like these movies are... I think Reeve and Seymour looks very good together a beautiful couple good chemistry
When Capt. Von Crapp told Richard that his obsessive over protection of Elise isn't merely to groom a bride, I never believed that. He wasn't so old then and any man with a pulse would have done anything to have her.
yes! elise said he knew many things about her career before they happened. and he said to beware of a man because he would change her life. and he was right. after the heartbreak she stopped acting and went out of public site. so richard did change her life. although it's clear he was a controlling, creepy, and most likely had feeling for elise, i think he was trying to protect her because he knows richard would destroy her in the end.
Reeve was blessed with great looks, a nice personality, but.....acting just wasn't his strong suit. This was the main reason why, outside of the Superman series, he didn't have much of a career.
I feel he was adequate enough. Not terrible. The reason he didn’t have much of a career outside of Superman is because he was extremely picky to a fault. He turned down many roles in films that went on to be hits.
I thought Chris was wonderful as Richard. He’s extremely charming and the chemistry between him and Jane was magic. The scenes after he returns to the present still make my heart ache
It's not that he was bad at acting, it's just that he never tried to expand and utilize his skills. He was offered so many roles one among best action movies but he turned them down which I feel is waste of opportunities. However that wasn't much to him, he had made many mistakes in his personal life too but I'm happy at least he died in the embrace of his family. I guess he knew it was his time when he went to watch his son's match, right after which the same day he had an attack.

I have a good life and the tv is horrible from the past 12-15 days and Kenneth Cole clothes are from 1810's ad! There is a certain darkness with Christopher Reeve and me since we're dancing and having chicken soup in my mansion or home!
Because it was customary for an unacquainted man or woman to address the other by their family name before they were close enough (for example, before they were engaged to be married). It gives respect to somebody's status as unmarried (for they may wish to remain so and keep that barrier substantively established). It would be (and still is) not completely comfortable to call someone by their first name, for it feels as though it is suggestive of intrusion (into one's personal life) to do such a thing. In more recent times, it is still customary to call a doctor, manager, or teacher by their family name (because there is an implicit understanding between the two - it invalidates the sense of purpose by depriving somebody of that courtesy).

They had to be the most beautiful couple ever cast in a movie together.
Yes the christopher reeves side
They are indeed beautiful but nobody can quite beat brad pitt n angelina jolie
@@bi23Nah, they’ve got nothing on this power duo.
I know right? Jane Seymour is up there with Vivienne Leigh.
Perfect cast.... by far the most beautiful couple ever cast in a film!
I find the music in this scene fits perfectly with the adorable awkwardness between them
WOW-movie 43 yrs old and still a lovely movie to watch.
Jane Seymour was so gorgeous in this movie.
Joyce Penelope Frankenberg is her real name. I love her to. Only five years older than me.

I agree, but sometimes it’s better to have a great film be our own little secret ya know?

Need the name of the ragtime piece playing in the background of this scene.

Oh You Beautiful Doll
Beautiful Doll
BUT!!! Has anyone noticed in some earlier printed VHS copies, it is "In the Good Old Summertime"? I have been wondering why Universal changed it 🤔
When Capt. Von Crapp told Richard that his obsessive over protection of Elise isn't merely to groom a bride, I never believed that. He wasn't so old then and any man with a pulse would have done anything to have her.
I think Elise's manager was secretly a time traveller too.
Interesting and you may be right - Like Elise said - He seemed to know things before they happened -

R.I.P Christopher Plummer
that has been speculated. How could he know the things he knows?
He died on the Lusitania so I highly doubt he really was clairvoyant or a time traveler.
I don’t think public dancing was acceptable for the upper classes in 1912.
So the lower classes waltzed?
Just think of Titanic
It definitely was, lol.

Of course! They were the best of friends! What a stupid, ignorant, insensitive question!!!!
