The smell of gas was really strong so, I opened the hood and saw fuel spitting out from the fuel pump so, I changed it for $20.00 It took me about 20 minutes.
Great vid. My fuel pump in my 1980 cutlass supreme was leaking the same way....I took it to the shop and yeah, they bent me OVER.... for a 20 min job. Do it yourself and save money ppl.
thanks for the video. i realize ill be swapping out my fuel pump with even less of the must haves like grease and appropriate tools. but, i feel confident in doing it myself having witnessed its a bolt on piece of equipment. the value is in the experienced "hey be sure to do this and watch out for that"; thanks for the post.
Hey! Thanks for the great comment. May your adventure take you to places that only a traveler can experience. Keep your videos coming, I will be watching them like a fly on the wall. ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
Good comment regarding the flare nut wrench, I didn't have one so, I used the adjustable. When I was tightening the bolts, my expressions made it seem like I was cranking the crap outta them LoL ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
@andysciro1 It's comments like yours that inspire me to make videos like this... I'm very glad that my video was helpful. Congrats on doing the work yourself. ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
Thanks for the information very useful for my car have the same car fuel pump went out what tool did you use and what socket ranch was it so i can get it all at once.
Hey great video! Can you install the pump by using grease on the pushrod to hold it up? Then bolt up the fuel pump and wait a little until the pushrod slowly falls on to the fuel pump shaft? Thanks
@WaldieUTUBE I think that my grunting made it seem like I cranked the crap out of those bolts.)-:\> 3/4 turn after they're snugged up is all you need. You don't want to snap the bolt off by tighening it too much, )-:\> ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
And damn I thought I got my fuel pump tight on there, of course my fuel pump bolts on to an aluminum timing cover though, didn't want to strip the threads haha got mine plenty tight though.
When i installed my fuel pump to my 76 Pontiac was no pushrod to push against did i do something wrong i am having starting issues now but wen i first installed she ran great after replacing pump and I'm getting fuel still i believe i might not have spark but that's besides
Hmm. That's odd if it ran when you first installed it and then it stopped. Are you sure it's still getting fuel? How long did it run for before it had issues starting?
no problem. As of today, i just found out that i have to replace my sway bar links. and i know i can do it myself but took it to the shop to get a quote and guess what? $304.99 is what they quoted me....LMAOO .... yeah right...HIGHWAY ROBBERY, i tell ya...i will be working on it this weekend, in my garage.
+Queen Day Remove the fuel line or fuel filter and crank the key to the on position, you should see no fuel pumping through it if it's a bad fuel pump.
Sway bar links are very cheap to replace and the brute force and ignorance is free, they are hard to remove but easy to replace, checkout my video on Stabilizer bar fix, It's the same thing.. good luck.
You had me at " half a beer ".
I love those mechanical fuel pumps it was so easy to replace just under 20 mins
I like how those fuel pumps work its works by the eccentric wheel rotation that's attatched to the top timing gear contacting the push rod on the pump

You're supposed to use a flare nut wrench on stuff like that, i.e fuel lines, brake lines etc.
xcellentt vid Bro .Thanks for sharing .

??did he say to get it nice and tight so no GAS leaks out??? 😁😁I knew he meant OIL
Thanks for the information very useful for my car have the same car fuel pump went out what tool did you use and what socket ranch was it so i can get it all at once.
Hi Randy, The size of the bolts may vary from each vehicle but you can try a 10mm or12 mm socket. Good Luck. ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
Was hoping to see the most difficult part.. the pushrod , so it fits back in
I know, sorry, I didn't realize how important it was, I just installed it with the push rod in the pump under the pin
return line ?
True dat! I missed filming that step. My bad.
Hey great video! Can you install the pump by using grease on the pushrod to hold it up? Then bolt up the fuel pump and wait a little until the pushrod slowly falls on to the fuel pump shaft? Thanks
+RevolutionzPM The grease might cause a clog.
RevolutionzPM ,the grease will not cause a clog. The pump is driven off a lobe on the camshaft. That actually, the correct way to install the pump!
That's the only things you have to worry about the fuel delivery is a bad fuel pump or a worn eccentric wheel . or a worn push rod
@adam59600 Funny! I watched it back and ya it looks like I crank the crap outta those bolts.
~Cheers~
Just B.
I actually cringed thinking the threads will strip or the bolt breaks 😬

When i pump the gas i can see gas getting pumped i started with issues after that first start after replacing starting issues
@@nathangordillo5869 Did you diagnose the spark issue? It's likely that or maybe the ignition coil.
"Contact"??? Dude, you've got to make damn sure that the mechanical arm on the pump goes under the pin, you cant just touch it.
no problem. As of today, i just found out that i have to replace my sway bar links. and i know i can do it myself but took it to the shop to get a quote and guess what? $304.99 is what they quoted me....LMAOO .... yeah right...HIGHWAY ROBBERY, i tell ya...i will be working on it this weekend, in my garage.
i don't think yout tightened it enuff
I notice you conveniently left out how you held the pushrod up while you installed the pump.
I think the camera man was drinking.
Yea my friend doing his fuel pump there is a bolt you remove and stick a longer one in an it will hold pushrod up
انا اقوم بتصليحه في المحل تبعي ولا اشتري الجديد
How can you tell if it's a bad fuel pump
+Queen Day Remove the fuel line or fuel filter and crank the key to the on position, you should see no fuel pumping through it if it's a bad fuel pump.
The push rod lined up without much effort, in hindsight I should have included that step in this video
Yes you should've 😕
That was my whole purpose of watching this video...
does anybody if I have to take down the gas tank for this ,or just take off fuel pump and replace it
+Willie Toole you only have to remove the tank if the pump is in the tank on later models, if its on the side of the block you don't
I knew mine was bad cause there was a metal piece that was broken...so yeah I'm putting a new one in.
Thanks for checking in and good luck. ~Cheers~ B.Champagne
Is the thread sealant absolutely needed?
No but, the chance that it will leak at that location is higher without it. good luck.
Sway bar links are very cheap to replace and the brute force and ignorance is free, they are hard to remove but easy to replace, checkout my video on Stabilizer bar fix, It's the same thing.. good luck.
lol only 20fl on them bolts and no sealant on the pipe it is a brake fitting :D
@andysciro1 I bought the pump at Swift Auto Parts. (516) 777-1177
Good luck and be safe. Keep me posted on your progress.

My car went Kabowi kaboom. You said to use a torch. Why would you do this to me.
LoL, I said " You DON'T want to use a torch on this"
I hate the computer controlled junk they make today
