    My mom called me (I was 26, almost 27 at the time), to let me know Alan Rickman had passed. I, unintentionally, and unbearably started crying/sobbing( I do film work/go to cons/etc. and he was one I couldn't wait to meet/ tell how much their work meant to me). I can't begin to put into words how much he and his work means to me (Die Hard, Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd, Galaxy Quest, Perfume Story of a Murderer), but I can say thank you, Blind Wave for reacting to this film. (Also, omg this film, in general....Bruce Willis, the story line...all of it...epic.) Just like you Blind Wave crew...epic. :)

    Bruce was actually filming this AND moonlighting - he'd do full days on set filming for the tv show for like 10 hour days then at night he'd be on the film set filming die hard.

      If you check out how much money was thrown at him as a no-name movie actor for this film, you'd be able to do that too. Mind you, there is a lot of downtime on a movie set to nap.

    Now that I think about it, Ellis did end up accidentally exposing Holly in the long run. Telling Hans John's name led to Thornburg hearing it over the CB, and Thornburg used that info to get that interview with the kids, which led to Hans working out who Holly actually was.

    Just fyi, Steven E. de Souza, the screenwriter of Die Hard, says it is a Christmas movie. So everything else is overruled.

    • @johnwilliamson2207
      @johnwilliamson2207 4 года назад

      Yep, at the start of the commentary track. There's also a storybook called 'A Die Hard Christmas' that tells the story of the film in the style of 'The Night Before Christmas'.

  • @osumarko
    @osumarko 4 года назад +15

    I saw a joke on twitter the other day that Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie. It's Bruce Willis in a tower hiding from Alan Rickman. That makes it a Harry Potter movie.

    Alan Rickman played a very sweet man in a movie called Sense and Sensibility (with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet). Definitely opposite of this film role. :D
    What I love about this film is how vulnerable a character John is. Instead of the usual shoot-em-up action hero like Schwarzenegger or Stallone, where the hero often seems un-phased by everything, John is distraught by (feels responsible for) the death of Holly's boss, he's freaked out and scared throughout the film, has to come up with plans on the fly under extraordinary circumstances, and if he gets injured, we see that it hurts. He's not impervious to what he's going through. It makes us emotionally invested in him as a character and hope that he survives (and sometimes we wonder how on earth he'll stop all of them, especially because Alan's character is so intelligent and formidable as a villain). It's such a good movie, and definitely was an unusual take on the action hero back then. For the better!

    Awesome movie, Bruce Willis in my mind played the 1st action hero of my generation that actually got fucked up royally- made sarcastic jokes scene after scene and RAN out of BULLETS. No other character like John McClane.

    1. The Last Boy Scout rocks, SO much better than the Lethal Weapon series. 2. Fun fact, Roderick Thorp got the idea from watching The Towering Inferno then dreaming he was being chased by gunmen across the roof of a skyscraper. 3. Prior to 9/11 Americans seemed to have a hard time accepting terrorists just weren't in it for the money. 4. James Shigeta (Takagi ) was in Tora, Tora, Tora. 5. In the book McClane/Leland was a terrorist expert and former WW2 fighter pilot (so I assume had no fear of flying?). 6. The police call centre girl who doesn't believe McClane actually turns up as a stewardess in Die Hard 2. 7. Powell is a Sergeant, hence why he's single manned, he doesn't take calls himself but supervises. 8. Mary Ellen Trainor (the female news anchor) is in no end of great movies, including Executive Decision aka Die Hard on a Plane but not Star Trek 2, that's Bibi Besch. 9. Grand L Bush was born in 1955 so would have turned 18 in 1973 and missed Vietnam, Robert Davi was born in 1951 so their characters fit. 10. Presumably one of the gang took the lorry out and brought in the ambulance before the police arrived. 11. If you listen carefully you can hear the deputy chief instructing the SWAT team to check for more terrorists inside the building after Powell shoots Karl. 12. The girl in the window McClane sees is probably some executives girlfriend whom he promised a part in the film.

    Hard to react to a film when you aren't watching it most of the time. You guys spend the first 10 minutes (as far as I watched) just talking about tangentially related stuff, or explaining stuff in the film that would be apparent if you guys just stopped talking.
