    • @stonewall01

      Yes I agree. I love Ginny in the books. Even Ron and Hermione's relationship made much more sense in the books than in the movies. They actually spent much more time together and Ron wasn't useless in the books. I love both books and movies but they do have their differences from each other of course.

    • @TyrannosavageRekt
      @TyrannosavageRekt 5 лет назад +6

      Ugh. Book Ginny annoyed me just as much. The relationship dynamics (in terms of romance) were Rowling's weakest creation. I can buy into it a little as the sort of people that date in school, but them lasting into adulthood, marriage, and children... I really don't buy it.

      it's annoying that people think that the only people who want harry and hermione are people who haven't read the books. i read all the books and still shipped them over ron and hermione and i didn't even know what shipping was i just know i preferred them. book ginny was still annoying to me. movie ginny was just awkward. it's just weird to me that they just put them together bc she wanted to recreate james and lily's appearances. hermione embodied lily more as a character anyways.

    • @TyrannosavageRekt
      @TyrannosavageRekt 5 лет назад +7

      @@Linsey009 And the names of Harry & Ginny's children still infuriates me. It's ALL about Harry's life. The children are named after people he knew, and people he lost. There's no allusion to the fact that Ginny also lost a brother to the Second Wizarding War. It's as if she has no agency whatsoever, and still remains the little girl that simply idolises "the Boy Who Lived" and will go along with anything he says. That isn't love, it's worship or obsession.

    Just wanted to add, when Aaron asked why there was 3 spaces, and how Quirrel filled the spaces in the Wizards chess game.
    In the book, Ron decides which pieces each of them should play, and the pieces hear him, and get off the board, the knight gets off his horse.
    So Quirrel would've just taken over one piece.
    Also not only did they miss the potion challenge, they missed the fact that Quirrel had set up a challenge as well, an even bigger mountain troll. But it was knocked out already so they didn't have to deal with it.
    Side note: Bill was a Gringots Curse Breaker, Charlie was a dragon "handler". and Norbert turns out to be a girl, so they changed her name.

    Oh and no Mark Radcliffe is not Dan's father. As I saw on the first Ultimate Edition it was revealed that Dan was at a play called "the Stones in his pocket" or something. Daniel's parents are involved in the film business as well , so they know everything about it. They were actually familiar with David Heyman the Producer of the Harry Potter films. David was sitting on the row behind Daniel and his parents during that play. And David every once in a while looked at Daniel which made Daniel quite nervous, during the break David went to Daniel and his parents and talked for a while because, as I said they knew each other. At some point the topic "Harry Potter" came along and David thought Daniel might be good for the role and he wanted him to audition for the part. Dan's parents were not very excited about it because they thought it might be bad for him growing up and they didn't want to, but eventually the decided to shoot the film in Leavesden , and not in the US, and so his parents finally agreed and the rest his history. Dan's audition was phenomonal, I've never seen a kid actor being so good at age 11 with so many emotion in his eyes. Fun fact Dame Maggie Smith had also told the filmmaker that they should look into Daniel Radcliffe prior to that meeting at the stage play. Because ofcourse she had worked with Daniel in '99 and she had very good experiences with Daniel. Sorry for this long extra message, but I couldn't help to send it LOL

      In the book Harry, A History by Melissa Anelli the author relates that tptb at Scholastic decided that their U.S. audience might mistake the book for a children's book centered around Philosophy- particularly given that the popular trend in children's lit just before the Potter series hit the scene was to provide topical or educational themes. They figured "Sorcerer's" quickly clued one in that this is fantasy (fun).

    Obviously I'm talking mostly about the books here but I've always liked Harry and Ginny together. I get why people would want Harry and Hermione as a couple (especially with that dance in Deathly Hallows part 1 and because the two argue much less than Ron and Hermione) but I still really like that the two are genuine friends, just as much as he and Ron are.
    Plus, a criticism I tend to have with many shows, movies, and mangas is that the main character and his love interest never get together until the very end and I'd argue that 8 times out of 10 the actual RELATIONSHIP is way more interesting than the build-up to it. I loved seeing Harry and Ginny as a couple and that's a huge reason why I ship them so much, because I've actually seen that they are a good couple (by contrast, take Korra and Mako, whom were not a good couple and we never would have seen that had season 1 of LOK been where the show ended).

I know he isn’t in the first book much or in this movie but the Bloody Baron is suppose to be a complete nightmare with all the other ghosts afraid of him not some happy go lucky pirate ghost. i don't know if this is ever mentioned or not, but there is a theory that for the Platform 9 3/4 scene, the reason Molly is so loud is because she saw a lost, scared kid alone on the platform with an owl, and was trying to help him find the platform, and let him know that she was someone he could ask for for help if he chose to. She was being obvious on purpose to catch Harry's attention and help him out

    1:23:45 Ofcourse I very much agree with Eric here but on the other hand for that time I think they really did it very well. Back then you couldn't imagine doing Quidditch so well. Chris Columbus himself has said if he could have done it over he would have spend much more time on Quidditch. Overall I think he did a great job with the scene., could have been much and much worse, though ofcourse in HBP it looked best. I am personally a big fan of Ginny ( yes from the books). So I loved seeing her in action there.

    Let's get a comment thread going here. Of the Harry Potter books (you can include movies if you want), which is your favorite and which is your least favorite?
    Favorite: Half-Blood Prince (Runner up: Chamber of Secrets)
    Least favorite: Goblet of Fire

    • @thekernewekpenguin
      @thekernewekpenguin 5 лет назад

      Wow, Goblet of Fire as your least favourite? I'm curious as to why. XD
      Favourite: Order of the Phoenix (Runner up: Prisoner of Azkaban)
      Least favourite: Philosopher's Stone (don't dislike it as such but regarding the book and especially the film, it's the one I enjoy the least!)

    • @aros0018
      @aros0018 5 лет назад

      Naturally, least favorite doesn't mean I think it's bad. That book just kind of drags in some places and has the most parts that are hard to get through. It's the book where we got a lot of in-fighting between the three friends, especially between Harry and Ron, the Yule Ball is hit and miss for me, and, because I like Harry so much, it's hard to watch almost all of Hogwarts hate him and see him as some kind of glory hound for getting to be in the Triwizard Tournament against his will.
      Mind you, most of this stuff is meant to be uncomfortable, so it's not like JK did a bad job on the writing. I'm just judging based on what I like reading about the most vs. what I like reading about the least. The book still has plenty of parts I love, including Voldemort's return.

    • @thekernewekpenguin
      @thekernewekpenguin 5 лет назад

      Alexander Sigstad yeah it’s not the most concise thing but personally I liked seeing the school turn against him, it shows how fickle school kids are.
      I also enjoyed seeing the realistic dynamic between the trio and JK showing how it’s not all sunshine and rainbows between them, though I understand that if you like Harry a lot then it would be difficult with all the turmoil he’s having to endure!
      I personally enjoyed the yuleball but my favourite part about that book was definitely how it delved into the wizarding world more and we got to see other schools, even within Hogwarts it felt to me like more detail and emphasis was put into more characters than the main three and even more years other than the one we see.
      As you say though, it’s written to be uncomfortable thus I suppose if it’s hit that mark for you, it should be congratulated!
      It’s fair enough if that (partly) makes it your least favourite.
      It just took me by surprise as I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone list it as they least favourite before!

    • @kelstwin3176
      @kelstwin3176 5 лет назад

      Prisoner of Azkaban (book & movie) ties with Deathly Hallows (the book) as favorite. Half-Blood Prince is my least favorite, particularly the movie version because I felt too much of the book got left out of the movie.

    So nice to see you have been rewatching the films again and that you all like it so much. I became a fan in 2001 when the first film came out. I was obsessed with it from the beginning. It was so magical seeing Hogwarts for the first time on the big screen. Never forget that. It's insane when you think about it what Chris Columbus did for the franchise. He had to start from scratch..what does a wand look like ? What does it sound like when you throw a spell ? What does school uniforms look like ? What does the castle look like? And the most challenging quidditch how did that work on screem ? Nothing he had to start from zero. I got so much respect for Columbus what he pulled off and how he created Harry's world on screen. It's insane how good it was. The films was like the perfect entry into the series. It was exactly like the book. And the cast they were able to get for all the roles was incredible Richard Harris, Dame Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman etc. Some of the greatest british actors and actresses at the time. Most of them were cast so perfectly for the roles and it was very important because if Chris' vision for the film failed it would be dead and that guy had to deal with so much stress. Because there was such a high expectation from the fans it was insane. As a fan I see this film as one of the better films in the franchise they almost copied the book on screen, I couldn't have wished for a better film. My favorite casting ofcourse was Richar Harris who was literally exactly like I imagined Dumbledore. Also my respect for the child actors most had their first jobs, for a first job they did a pretty good job. Though you can see the camerawork is adjusted to it, they worked with 3 or 4 camera's with each scene in the first film because they never knew when they'd get the right scene or good shot

    For the Flitwitck design change, the story is a bit more interesting: Warwick Davis' role in Prisoner wasn't actually Flitwick, it was the choir head, who was a completely different character. The next director however, Mike Newell, really liked the new character design and decided to make that new character actually Flitwick

    The reason Quidditch makes no sense is that J.K. Rowling thought it was a bit silly how seriously people took sports, so she made a game that was intentionally nonsensical so that she could parody organized sports. The cool thing is that Quidditch has been adapted to be a competitive game, and they adjusted the rules so that catching the snitch is not so OP.
