      I think if Harry was a Slytherin he would’ve used the Chamber of Secrets to train the Slytherins because it’s part of their history. I think it’s place for maybe Harry to turn into a headquarters spot for himself, but I don’t think it’s a comfortable place for others

    Something that's carried over with me since I was a kid and a big reason Chamber of Secrets is one of my favorites in the series is because it has just such a great creepy and mysterious atmosphere to it. Something is attacking the students but we never see what it is, only the aftermath, Harry is hearing voices, the damn spiders in the forest, and the diary that writes back to the owner. It's that classic thing that kids do want to be scared sometimes by the things they read and watch.
    Two of my favorite horror movies are both John Carpenter films: The Thing and Halloween III and both are because of their atmosphere, which Chamber of Secrets has in common with them. You're just waiting for things to go wrong, for something to just come out and attack, because you know something terrible is happening but you don't know what. Seeing only the aftermath of the Basilisk attacks is honestly way scarier than if we were to see/read about it attacking the Muggle-borns. Our minds fill in the blanks.

    Hagrid saying all Slytherins are destined to be dark wizards or villains is a bit hyperbolic.
    Pettigrew was a Gryffindor, Quirrel and Lockhart were from Ravenclaw. There are theories that Barty Crouch Jr. was either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff (though supposedly there’s never been a dark wizard to come out of Hufflepuff.)
    Also some notable Slytherin wizards who ended up breaking the stereotype were Andromeda Tonks, Regulus Black, Severus Snape, Horace Slughorn, and Draco Malfoy who wasn’t evil, just a sniveling coward.
    Slytherin clearly has a bad reputation and a penchant for hosting some nasty wizards, but come on, are we really to believe they’re ALL evil?

    • @brandonlyon730
      @brandonlyon730 5 лет назад +31

      According to Harry Potter lore one of the most famous and powerful wizard in British history was Merlin from the Arthurian legends, he’s from House Slytherin and he was never against muggles and actually encourage peaceful coexistence with them.

    • @redcardinalist
      @redcardinalist 5 лет назад

      Quirrel isn't really a villian of his own volition though is he? I think we should discount him :) Do we know which houses all the various Death Eaters came from? Regarding whether ALL of Slytherin are evil? No it doesn't make sense (especially why you'd still keep them as a house in the school). However, the films seem to portray ALL of Slytherin's members as nasty (if not actually "evil")

    • @Allons-yMoose
      @Allons-yMoose 5 лет назад +3

      Yeah, I feel Slytherin really has a bad reputation in the same way that Hufflepuffs get called boring and dumb all of the time. I guess it's just the cross the two houses have to bare. (Speaking as a Puff myself. ^^)
      Then again Gryffindors are often reduced to arrogant show-offs and Ravenclaws to annoying know-it-alls. Urg, I don't know, haha.

    • @mitchellhayward6492
      @mitchellhayward6492 5 лет назад +2

      @@redcardinalist I disagree with your opinion that Quirrel isn't really a villain of his own volition. Yeah, he's a host for a "parasite-esque" Voldemort, and that does make him subservient. But that doesn't stop him from being a total dick to Harry, admitting that he tried to kill Harry without any tone of remorse, and shouting at him. Compare that to Voldemort, who actually at least tries to tempt Harry to cooperate by promising him his parents back.

    • @TheAngryXenite
      @TheAngryXenite 3 года назад +2

      @Kian Naik I think it's that the House's "hat," so to speak, is ambition and cunning, traits which aren't inherently good or evil but ARE associated with underhanded behavior and ruthlessness. So while there are perfectly decent people in Slytherin, there's a higher than average amount of villains coming out of there as well.

    23:32 *Did* he direct _Thor,_ though? I get the feeling he just Obliviated the director and took all the credit.
    Also, some fun facts about Jason Isaacs:
    ♦ The exchange between Lucius and Harry in Dumbledore’s office was unscripted. Isaacs wanted to ‘test’ Radcliffe, and Radcliffe answered back, impressing Isaacs.
    ♦ He asked the director where Dobby would be in Dumbledore’s office, so he could stay out of the digital character’s way as he moved across the room. The director clarified that Dobby’s movements hadn’t yet been animated, and would be decided *after* they’d filmed Isaacs’ performance. Isaacs therefore lashed out his foot on the stairs, and waved his cane downward. When asked if he’d slipped, and what the deal was with the cane, Isaacs clarified he was kicking Dobby down the stairs and striking his head as he stood up. The director liked those ideas, and had Dobby animated accordingly.
    ♦ “Avada [Kedavra]” was the first spell Isaacs could think of when prompted to say one, as he’d recently read _Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire._
    ♦ Throughout the film, there are shots where Isaacs’ actual hair, which is dark and short, can be made out underneath his Lucius wig.

    Voldemort actually only made 7 Horcruxes, not 8. He intended to split his soul into 7 parts, rather than making 7 Horcruxes, so he made 6 intentionally. Harry was the unintentional 7th Horcrux.

    • @novadragonz7357
      @novadragonz7357 4 года назад +2

      Yeah some people count Qurriel as a "temporary horcruxe" due to housing Voldemort's soul for a time, but yeah your right only 7

    • @Mrryn
      @Mrryn 3 года назад +3

      I think the confusion comes from the idea that, while Tom Riddle made 6 horcruxes, he did so with the intention of splitting his soul 7 ways - a fragment to each horcrux and the final portion in his main body - thinking of the historical magical power of the number 7.
      So while Harry was the 7th horcrux, Voldemort making Harry a horcrux accidentally was him splitting his soul an 8th time.

    • @DarkBanks3
      @DarkBanks3 2 года назад +3

      @@Mrryn So to assume he made the Horcruxes in the order of his Diary, which would have half his soul, the Gaunt Ring which would have a fourth, Helga’s Goblet an eighth, Slytherin’s Locket a sixteenth, Ravenclaw’s Diadem a thirty-second, Harry on accident being a sixty-fourth, then Nagini with a one-hundred and twenty eighth after Goblet of Fire which is the same amount that Voldemort himself would then have. There is a theory that his original goal would be that he was going to use Griffindor’s sword in place of Harry, but then he lost the sword when he got bodied by baby Harry, and he was probably planning on making the sword into one after he made nagini into one (hence why bellatrix was holding onto it for him)
      The idea is that his plan was still to make 7 Horcruxes and that he was going to make 7 intentional ones and accidentally harry

    You're right about Quidditch in the films. Only 1-3 and 6 show it, though the books have more matches. There's a funny scene in 3 where Malfoy and other Slytherins try to disguise themselves as a dementor, and Harry scares them with a patronus. The firebolt is delivered much earlier, long before Sirius Black is revealed to be innocent, so the teachers make a big deal of checking to make sure it is safe. It's also worth noting that Cho Chang was the Ravenclaw seeker.
    I don't think The Goblet of Fire (4) has any, because the Triwizard tournament is going on instead, though there's much more detail on the World Cup at the start.
    In The Order of the Phoenix (5), Umbridge bans Harry from playing Quidditch, but the matches continue with Ginny as seeker.
    In The Half-Blood Prince (6), Harry becomes the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain. That's why he runs the tryouts in the film. There's criticism of Harry for having too many friends on the team (Ron, Ginny and Dean) and Ron's performance varies somewhat. Slytherins sing "Weasley is our King. He always lets the quaffle in" until he actually does well and Gryffindor reverses it with "Weasley is our King. He never lets the quaffle in." Harry misses the final match as he has detention for his use of _Sectumsempera_ on Malfoy. Ginny captains the team in his place to win the tournament. Their first kiss is during the celebrations, compared to in the film when they hide the potion book with no real build up.

    Another reason in my head that Lockhart decided to teach is think how much money he made by selling all of those books. Each student is required to buy his complete set and if there are say 40 students in each grade, and 7 grades, that's 280 students. Knowing him he is probably selling those sets for like 20 galleons each, that's a total guess could be more or less. But say it is 20 galleons, that's 5,600 galleons just in book sales for students. He will also get paid for being a teacher, and people around the wizarding world who just believe his stories that will buy his books. Just in book sales from the students he makes $41,160 since 1 galleon is $7.35 U.S.

    I'm very curious what would have happened if Tom's plan had succeeded and he'd been made flesh and blood again instead of just a memory/Horocrux. The original Voldemort is still out there, the one that's not even a percent of a soul anymore after ripping his in half eight times. Would Tom and Voldemort have been able to work together, staying separate or finding a way to fuse, or would they have tried to destroy each other, feeling there's only enough room for one Dark Lord?
    Voldemort likely has way more magical knowledge but Tom might be more likely to survive a battle between the two of them. Even when Voldemort is resurrected, Tom still seems in way better health, probably because he still has that larger percentage of his soul left.

    Raspberry - Cockney rhyming slang - raspberry tart = fart, from the similarity of the sound
    The book explains Ron's fear of spiders: when he was a toddler, Fred and George turned his teddy bear into a spider - while Ron was holding it.
    I never thought of using the Chamber of Secrets for Dumbledore's Army, but wouldn't people notice a lot of boys going in and out of a girls' bathroom on a regular basis? But it was never mentioned even as a possibility in the books.
    There's foreshadowing of future films - for eg, the way the disguised Ron reacts to Malfoy's badmouthing Hermione more than Harry does. And who gets the hug at the end
    JKR said that it was uncanny, as the series was still being written when this film was made. [Happens again in the next film, when Hermione turns to Ron, not Harry, at a crucial moment]
    You can also get some hints of future films by what they *don't* put in - if they leave out a strand in an earlier film, you know they're not going to follow that strand later. Winky never gets mentioned at all. Nor does SPEW. And Dobby's role is greatly reduced: in Goblet of Fire, what we see in the film is what the baddies intended to happen, not what actually happened in the book [same result, just a different way to achieve it].
    Given that it's finally discovered that Hagrid was framed, no official recompense was seen to be made; not sure if they could have repaired his wand, but they could at least have officially exonerated him.

      Brandon Lyon you know I was thinking about this and I remember at the death day party that the ghosts could actually taste IF the foods were particularly pungent so everything was rotten, it can obviously just be a plot hole too but I like to think he could taste some of the potion if they simply just put some inside him

    My ranking of the movies
    1: deathly hallow part 2
    2: half blood prince ( have a soft spot for this movie)
    3: prisoner of azkaban
    4: order of the phoneix
    5: deathly hallows part 1
    6: goblet of fire
    7: chamber of secrets
    8: philosophy stone
    I love all 8 of these movies which is incredible that there all so good.

    I know it's from 2 years ago but I have to comment on one thing. Slitherin didn't build the Chamber to kill muggleborns, he was not a murderer. He was afraid of muggles hunting wizards and witches and believed the secret of magic should have been guarded more closely, ie. kept inside magical families. The Chamber and its monster were supposed to be the last line of defense in the event of attack against the castle.
