I know it's sort of a genre you guys rarely do, but how about giving "Kimi no Na Wa" a try? Well, whatever you guys choose to do, I'll be here for the ride😁
The way Eric described seeing this movie or rather not seeing this movie for the first time is exactly how it was for me. I have no memory of seeing any of the original trilogy for the first time, it's just been a fact of my life for as long as I can remember in the same way that you just understand what food is, what water is, who your parents are, etc.
@Ragnarok Exactly! I had the doorbell ring twice while watching this, and the stupid Blu-ray wouldn't pause on the first try, whereas my computer did. Took me forever to sync them back up, the first time I didn't get it quite right, which kept bugging me!
it was pretty ez to sync up with the lucas arts logo and if you watch a different version that has a scene or two less, the timer doesnt rly do much. but it shouldnt be to hard to ad a timer i guess.
@@Bennime_Once the timer doesn't do much if you want to sit for two hours without ever fast forwarding. considering that it's a 40 year-old movie some people might not feel compelled to sit through the entire thing
I’ve been looking forward this...FINALLY YOU GUYS DO COMMENTARIES!! Been asking this for a long time. Now we need a Star Wars podcast and we’ll all be good 🙏
The space combat was inspired by WWII movies, 2 in particular. The TIE fighter attack on the Falcon takes its cues from "12 O'clock High," while the trench run is from "The Dam Busters."
This was very hard syncing the movie up to on my end. I honestly prefer the way the full length stuff works, because then I can hear the audio throughout, and easily sync in the beginning or re-sync during. Also saw a suggestion for a timer, which is also a good idea.
Hello there. A bit late, catching up with commentaries, but the fella sat next to Luke before the battle of Yavin IS Wedge, but played by a different actor, later replaced by Dennis Lawson. He is a bloke called Colin Higgins. Sadly, his name is lost in the world of Star Wars, like tears in the rain! Keep up the great work & content from a viewer England!
Well yes from a BTS thing that was meant to be wedge but in current canon it is no longer wedge. His name is Col Takbright and he is jokingly referred to as “fake wedge” by the other x wing pilots due to their similar appearance.
Thanks so much for starting commentaries it's something I've wanted for a while. It's fantastic hearing your thoughts, insight and just plain love for some of my favourite franchises. The only feedback I can give is regarding syncing. Is it possible to have a counter on the screen the same as the full length reactions? Halfway through RUclips froze and I found it hard to resync with my video, especially without the film audio (although I could still just hear the audio bleeding through which helped). Otherwise can't wait for what comes next.
Hopefully you’ll also do movie commentary for the sequel trilogy. It’s been years since I saw those movies so I kind of forgot a lot and I’ll be really glad to have a reason to rewatch them and kind of rediscover them again.
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, ET, Batman, Ghostbusters, and bits from all of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies at that point are just ingrained into my head. I don't remember the first time I saw any of these.
You could easily fan-explain that Uncle Owen meets with Obi-Wan several times as Luke grows up and Luke just happens to overhear them mention "Kenobi" is his last name, to anyone else he's just "that hermit Ben [local area]", like someone becomes "Dakota Pete".
Could you put a timer on the bottom next time as I found it hard to match up, or maybe for the first 5-10 seconds of the movie put the audio clip so we can match up Other than that it was fantastic
One of the stormtroopers who enters the Falcon has the grappling hook visible on his belt. It is the *only* grappling hook to appear on any trooper in any movie in the series!
I like the commentary guys. But I would still add still frames. Much like nerd soup does there reviews. It will help the audience keep track of where you are in the movie and particularly scene. Just a suggestion
Great idea for a longer-form 'show' that plays really well across Patreon, RUclips and audio-only. I watched the Star Wars 'Revisited' fan-edit yesterday, my favourite version of the movie. Im 50 and can remember going to see Star Wars at the cinema for the first time with my sister and parents, queueing on a cold Saturday afternoon very early in 1978. Im from the UK and it didnt go on general release here until over 6 months after the US release (delayed releases happened a lot back in those days). Although we had no social media back then, the success of the movie in the States during '77 meant it had a great marketing campaign here and there was so much of a 'buzz' around it. I also remember my reaction after the movie, bounding down the stairs shooting at my sister with my 'finger-gun' like Han Solo, making my own blaster noises ... my world had changed, the whole world had changed, and nothing was ever the same again.
This is the only channel where i'm glad they have a podcast cause they are actually talking about something i will be interesting in it. While some just talk about drama and just their life style.
When I was younger I loved ROTJ most (from the OT) then I went for ESB (everyone passes through their Empire period) and now I firmly believe ANH is the best out of the Original three.
1:37:27 Finally, someone else that gets it. The troopers have orders to let them go, so, hitting them would be bad. It's long been my belief the troopers are missing on purpose. Notice, they had little to no problem dispatching the nameless rebels at the start of the movie, or the nameless rebels on Hoth at the start of TESP. The same goes for all of the OT. Vader is always trying to keep them alive, he doesn't want them dead. Ever.
The four tie fighters that attacked the millennium falcon weren't sent after them, they were sentry ships guarding the area around the deatj star and attacking unidentified ships, han even says they are coming upon some of their sentry ships. That's why leia said they were let go because no ships were actually sent after them from the death star.
Btw, Eric Luke has seen at least one other woman apart from his aunt - one of his friends from Anchorhead's Toshee Station (might even be Biggs' girlfriend).
I personally have always taken the look Obi-Wan gives R2 as being chiding, teasing him like he had always done with Anakin during the wars. However he also completely tells Luke the truth, he never owned R2 or any droid personally
Vader and the 501st in canon is weird. Some sources, especially early canon kept it as Vader controlling it and being nicknamed Vader’s fist, but in some newer material he instead has the first legion in order to differentiate himself from Anakin, but most of the members are pulled from the 501st so it doesn’t matter too anyway.
We'll ininfity war is already on Blue ray but now they don't have to buy it seperertly anymore because the Blue ray version for Endgame will have all 11 movies addition and including theater version of the EndGame.
You know, when I think of the original trilogy, this one tends not to come to mind very much for me compared to the other two. But every time I watch it, I'm kind of caught off guard by how solid it is. By the time I get to the most tense parts of the Death Star battle I find myself wondering if its actually my favorite.
i'm with Aaron about how the guns must be the problem. I imagine the Empire war machine has a budget and the lowest bidder is what makes the guns for them.
This was such a bitch to sync up lol. Loved the commentary. I accidentally zoned out and watched the film when obi wan dies and forgot I was watching a commentary until we got to yavin 4. So invested
All I can think of during the obi one house scene is "49 times..." I hate you blr, you changed my SW experience (also when Yoda hits r2 with a stick, and when he is warning Luke to not leave)

Same!
Next one should have a timer in the bottom corner
@Ragnarok you could just bookmark with the timestamp?
Or the first 10 seconds put audio and visual so we can use that to sync up
@Ragnarok
Exactly! I had the doorbell ring twice while watching this, and the stupid Blu-ray wouldn't pause on the first try, whereas my computer did. Took me forever to sync them back up, the first time I didn't get it quite right, which kept bugging me!
Whenever there is dead air one of you guys should read off of the IMDB goofs or trivia section to keep the movie conversation going.
This is really awesome, my only suggestion is that you add a timer, so that people can sync it up and fix it anytime
it was pretty ez to sync up with the lucas arts logo and if you watch a different version that has a scene or two less, the timer doesnt rly do much. but it shouldnt be to hard to ad a timer i guess.

be with you .
This is so awesome guys, thank you for doing it
I can't wait for more to come!
Good for not having ads during the commentary! I'll definately will be watching more of these
I think it would be great if you could show 5 seconds of the movie in the beginning (without sound) so we can have the best chance of syncing with you
This coming out on Star Wars Day is very appropriate.
NOT Life Day, STar WARS DAY!!!

2nd best Star Wars films imo 👍

my friend, after 3 years ... it finally happened !
'because of obiwan'
An unknown director created a movie that was thought to flop at first but still had a fantastic set design in that opening shot on the rebel ship
Lucas was not unknown
@Jon Snow
You know something Jon Snow
He directed American Graffiti, one of the most popular movies from the 70s. Today it’s not that well known, but it was a blockbuster at the time.
Lucas wasn't an unknown, THX 1138 and American Graffiti were pretty revered beforehand.
Didn’t mean to say unknown, I meant unpopular as a director
I LOVE THIS IDEA
The space combat was inspired by WWII movies, 2 in particular. The TIE fighter attack on the Falcon takes its cues from "12 O'clock High," while the trench run is from "The Dam Busters."
I actually really like these fan commentary style videos. Hope you make more
