If your into gaming get the 2011 hp probooks instead of elitebooks, they came with the old express card slot and you can get external desktop graphics card slots that can hook up to those ports and allow you to use any ddr3 desktop graphics card on the laptop

The best graphics card you can put in it is the quadro 2000m 2GB. They are around $60 on ebay. If you had an amd card in there before make sure you switch the heatsink also.
I dont have the laptop anymore. Its really easy though. Once you have the keyboard off you just make sure you have all the screws out and pop the top bezel off like I show in the video then there are a couple screws in the fans and you have to take some tape off the wire and be careful routing it and with the plug.
Thank you for the effort showing all this! great explanation as well. I learned a lot from watching your video, I am going to see what other videos you have. Cheers!
It would had been nice to know what HP spare part number you used for the keyboard replacement. HP has numerous part numbers for the backlit keyboards and this requires more research and a gamble not knowing if they all are compatible with the HP 8560 and/or 8570.
have it, I'm happier. if you looked the specs.. ram, cpu, speed, you may find some the same Speed of less (to many) to slow (but expensive) 2017 compare my computer (2009) to many best buy computers.. and many are to slow cpu. i will buy other one soon ..
Luis Goribar AVC Are you talking about for the second hard drive spot or the optical drive caddy? Im not sure on the second hard drive slot, you should look up the part number and search it based off that. I have a 2TB 2.5 inch drive in my optical bay caddy and its the same size as any other 2.5 inch drive so it should work fine.
Hi, i was wondering where you bougt the backlight keybord?, and i was also take a fully clean over on the comouter with new heat sink and everything, and knows it runs on 45 celsius and i have the topp modell. thank you so much for the video. sorry for the bad english :)
+Jerry Hutchens I looked into it. Looks like HP has it disabled in the micro code so you can't use one. Just what I have heard. If I had one I would try it but I don't.
Yeah that's what i read too. I have the HP 8740w i5 and it's really confusing about what ram to put in it. One site HP says 16gb while crucial says 8gb so i went with what they say cause i always trust crucial.. Thanks for a great learning video.
I have a laptop like it, question I want upgrade mine, so when I install the SSD HD I need to purchase win 10 right (right now It has win 7 ) because the SSD HD doesn't come with win 10 or it will start with win 7?
@@Notsosamurai1 yes, it is possible. Just install Windows 10 on your computer and user Win 7 product key when you are asked for. Your Win7 product key should be found on a sticker when you remove the battery

my left shift, ctl and alt keys are not working. can you somehow upload the drivers for keyboard? i cannot find the right right one on the hp website. thanks!
There aren't any drivers for the keyboard. The only drivers for the input devices are the touchpad drivers. You can try unplugging the ribbon cable and reconnecting it to make sure its not loose or something. If that doesn't work you can get them pretty cheap on ebay.
You keyboard popped loose a whole lot easier than mine. I found the tab in through the expansion port, but I worked on it until the tab seemed ready to break off and couldn't get the keyboard to pop. Worked on it for over an hour, but could not get it to pop.Any suggestions?
@MUMPY The 8570w doesn't have soldered in memory. Do you have a duel core or quad core cpu in it? It has 4 memory slots. Two are on the other side of the motherboard under the keyboard. If you have a duel core you can only use those 2 slots. With a quad core you can use all 4.

Thanks for this great demo! We are wondering how we could 'deep clean' this laptop? It gets really hot and you could hear the CPU fan goes hover up loudly sometime. Is there any specific tools we could use to clean and you would recommend i.e. vacuum cleaner etc?
I'm having the same issue right here. I don't think deep clean will help. I believe GPU' thermal grease gone bad. I'm planning on disassemble my laptop and add new grease to it
Hi, thanks for sharing this. What would CPU's thermal grease refer to ? Did you mean the CPU paste, that's between the CPU fan and the CPU itself ? Thanks 😃
I meant GPU as ATI Radeon 5950. They tend to overheat quickly. I have remove the palm rest as well to get access to GPU. I have just ordered Arctic MX-4 thermal paste. Will start experimenting with this tomorrow and will post an update here
So I took apart my EliteBook 8560w to replace RAM under keyboard and discovered I did not have any slots for RAM under the keyboard.....thoughts? Everywhere I looked online it showed it should have had 4 slots for RAM, I just have the 2 slots under back cover
If that is the case then it must have only come with a dual core processor. If it has a quad core now then someone probably upgrade it. When these where ordered new you could get them with a bunch of different CPUs. The dual core CPU models came with only 2 memory slots and the quad core models came with 4 memory slots.
Same with me. I tried to upgrade to 32gb having already inserted 16gb under the laptop only to discover there's no slot under the keyboard. My model is core i7 quadro 1000m.
Thank you for great video, i was wondering why my recently bought 8560w dosen`t lit up :) now i know what i have to do. P.S if you stil wondering, the f11 symbol is ambient light sensor, it brightens the display up or down regardless the ambiental light. Cheers!
Ya you can. Any of the ones that it could have come with stock. You have to make sure the heatsink is the right one also. I dont know if it had had more then on heatsink.
Pat McGann I dont run none matching memory together. If its not the same brand, size and speed I dont put them together. To many problems in the past. Either all memory running in single channel or the computer wont boot. I have done some testing and it slows down most of the time with mismatched sizes of memory even if they are all the same speed. Im anal about that stuff.
Hi, can you help me with something? I have the same model but I have no backlite keyboard. But if I look inside I see a white cable in the white connector, right beside the simcard holder. The connector you mentioned about the backlit keyboard. That strange don't you think?
+Not So Samurai Yes I know that because I watched your video. But the thing is: the place where the orange cable should be... there is the white cable right now. Question is: has my 8560W mainboard the connector for the backlite???
***** Sounds Like someone put it in the wrong place or something. Or maybe if yours has a different processor the connectors are different on that board. I wouldn't be able to tell unless I saw it.
+Not So Samurai: I have the one with Intel i7 2670QM 2.2 Ghz. I check the conectord by looking inside trough the dvd slot. I see the same connectors and simcard holder as I can see at your video, so it must be the same mainboard. Btw.. i discover that the orange fingerpointer doesnt work, so like you said.. someone put it in the wrong one. Are both cables the same size?
Hey Not So Samurai, When I removed my keyboard the two plastic clips which attach the ribbons to the mother board broke. Is there a way to get a replacement that you know of? Thanks
I had this happen with the keyboard backlight ribbon cable. I have not found any yet. Keep and eye on ebay for non working motherboards that still have them attached. Thats the only thin I can think of.
+Not So Samurai I called HP they said they were supposed to be supplied with a new keyboard did your not come with them? Perhaps the sales rep was mistaken, wouldn't be the first time. thank you.
They told you the little clip that hold the ribbon cable in comes with a new keyboard? I have never heard of that. I can't find them anywhere new either. If you do find a supplier for them let me know.
Eric Base I think so with the 2 slot configuration. This is what the spec sheet says. Memory Standard DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz) Two or four SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory 2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB SODIMMs NOTE: Four memory slots only on models with quad-core processor. Maximum Upgradeable to 32 GB with (4) 8 GB SODIMMs Dual-channel Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.
+Jerry Hutchens It doesn't really matter as long as you keep them grouped. Like either 2 under the keyboard or 2 under the laptop, or all 4 filled. I filled the 2 under the keyboard so that if I want to add 2 more it would be as easy as popping the bottom cover off.
its like intels fav way to fuck with people. I havent built a system in a while...but sdram had no concept of pairs, then the rambus curveball on first p4 where u needed those dumb empty slot terminators. for a while with ddr and the lga775 platforms it was first slot third slot when doing pairs. It took me longer than I like to admit to get my first lga1366 build to post. I still use that machine as a daily work station. sas 6gb hardware raid of flash drives and 4 spinny antiques for the 100s of gbs of ...oh idk ..not porn.. :D had 14 inch version of pervious gen. elite book. can revive it but havent had time and saw 8560 on ebay from a biz..pampered aka like new world. This has i7 1st gen was i5 and Id think with brand new mfg batteries they would be a tie thing is beast mode heavy though. not a problem at a desk but does actually get comfortable on lap .
Another question, Are u test this laptop with furmark? I tried to repaste a few days ago but now I test with furmark, graphic card goes up to 83C degrees after 2 minutes and seems to be more
@@atnguyen5442 I re pasted mine with Gelid Extreme and I put the best Fujipoly thermal pads on it they sell. Highest temps I get is about 80c after it runs for a bit.
+Derek Edwards You can upgrade the cpu, just make sure you get the right heatsink for your cpu. The only thing you wont have is the 4 memory slots with the duel core models. If you wan that you will need to swap the motherboard. 16GB of memory is plenty though.
+Not So Samurai Hey sir I was just looking on the manual for this laptop and it is saying that only quad cores support 32gb ram. Is that true or is it like you said and the I5 dual core can support the 32gb and not the I7. The manual is basically saying you can only use two slots on the I5 and 4 slots with I7.
Hi, would this fit to my HP 8560w... Crucial Ballistix Sport SODIMM 16GB Kit 8GBx2 DDR3 1866 MT/s PC3-14900 CL10 at 1.35V 204-Pin Memory BLS2K8G3N18AES4 ?
It will only run at 1333MHz. Do you already have it or are you buying some memory? If you are buying memory then I wouldn't buy anything over DDR3-1600. Thats what I put in mine and I know it works. it only runs at 1333 though not 1600.
So, I took this machine to Europe, sold it the day after my arrival... $500 and bought the 8770w, what a great machine! It came already with 32 GB RAM, now I'm looking forward to upgrade the CPU (i7 3840XM) and the GPU (K5100M)... and have a one of a kind machine!
Ya I do, but I need a new power supply. I have a dedicated gaming rig now but the Z800 still works good. It can be upgraded to either the Ceon X5500 or 5600 series based on what revision motherboard you have.
@@Notsosamurai1 there's a cool PC shop where I live, & they have one, for $30, but no HDD, maybe no RAM, no charging cable either. So it's used, but looks in good shape. They also have a toshiba, 17" satellite, same condition, but the toshiba has 1600mhz ram, where the hp has 1333mhz! Also for $30!
just bought one 11/2018 based on your videos and needing to upgrade. Have you replaced battery on this? I bought a replacement OEM HP Brand on ebay (new) but it only charges to maybe 94%, and only while off/sleep. Using Win 10 Pro. I searched all over for solutions, and nothing more than several hundred people saying to uninstall ACPI. Upon doing this, battery indicates its charging for a few seconds before remaining stagnant (Plugged in, charging - but not really charging). Its has a professional graphics card that is designed for 3D modeling, post processing, graphics design, imaging editing, etc. It was not designed to play games; you could try, but you'll have to turn all the settings down to low.
I still have this laptop from my old workplace, almost for 4 years.. I would like to upgrade the RAMS also. Can you, please tell me if the latency is important? I have 2 slots already occupied: 1 8GB Kingston and another with 4 GB Samsung SODIMM. I would like to buy a second Kingston 8GB 1333MHz DDR3, to put it with the oldest one together. I will have a problem with the 4 Gb Samsung , if it will stay in the third slot, alone? Thank you. Nice video!
You can run different size and latency memory but it won't work optimally. I would make sure you have matching stick of the same brand, size and latency for the best performance. You can get DDR3 SO-DIMMs pretty cheap on ebay these days.
Great contents, i've watched like 3 of your videos back to back. Is that an msata slot next to the wifi module? I'm a proud owner of the 2170p, 2570p, 8460p and 8470p myself. They all lack the msata slot, which would make them very interesting.
Not So Samurai - This is what I purchased HP EliteBook 8560W Laptop Quad Core i7-2760QM, 2.40GHz (Turbo up to 3.50GHz), quad-core processor, 6MB L3 Cache, 8 threads, 45WCamera. I plan on using this video to upgrade my 8560w. I have a couple of questions for you. 1. @@duplicity555 Ya I wouldn't try to upgrade to anything other then the cards it would have come with. Also you have to make sure you have the right heatsinks. There where different ones for some of the cards.
Not So Samurai if you can please check and get back to me cause many users claim that if you put higher frequency ram it still automatically downgrades to 1333mhz...
Enxhi Koraqe It depends on what it has in it. If it has a good CPU and plenty of memory with a 1080p screen then ya its worth it. I still use mine every day and its still fast. If it doesn't have a SSD for the boot drive factor a 250GB SSD into your purchase cost. A SSD makes all the difference.
Enxhi Koraqe That stinks, I believe the i5s are all duel core which means you can put 4 Memory Dimms in. Id look for a core i7 with at least 8GB of memory for around the same price and put a 250GB SSD in for the boot drive and a 2TB second HDD like I did.
have seen this on sale for 150 right now 4GB / 250 gb hd - are these i5 laptops still a good workhorse ?- I don't do games just occasional downloads and net stuff - sale still going on for 7days from today - let me know what you think..I am using a celeron 2830n asus laptop right now
I believe if you have the inner quad core processors it supports 4 dimms and up to 32GB. If you have the duel core i5 processors it only supports 2 dimms and up to 16GB.
Thanks for posting. Considering this model for video editing. (Premiere Elements 13). With the upgrades you posted here...how have you liked using the computer? Do you edit video on this computer? How is the performance? Any advise for someone looking to get one of these? Thanks!
I still use it every day. I use my Z800 for editing most of time but this is more than capable. If you get one get a SSD for it for the boot drive and a HDD caddy for the optical bay like I did. I have a 250GB SDD and a 2TB HDD so if I did not have PC I would have a bunch of storage still. I want to get the HP Elitebook 8770w. It is basically the same but a 17 inch with 2 hard drive bays. Then I will use 2 500GB SSDs in RAID 0 and my 2TB HDD in the optical bay HDD caddy. These also have 4 memory slots if you get a quad cor model so you can use up to 32GB of memory which come in handy when editing video or 3D rendering.
+Cheryl Dahl You can see the keyboard and your inputs easier in dark spaces. Late night programming and simulation projects become easier on the eyes not trying to squint at the keyboard.
Hello sir, I have the exact same laptop and I got water into it mistakenly so now when I took it to shop he just cleaned it and thankfully it worked well. Everything was fine but then he re opened my laptop coz he forgot something to put inside and when he reassembled it second time, The keyboard didn't lit up.. So can you please suggest me any solution. That would be highly appreciated coz I am in deep trouble. Btw You are awesome, Just liked and Subscribed
It does not have the symbol on the space bar for the 8560w. At least the US version. The last generation I think did. The one I bought is a genuine HP keyboard.
Not So Samurai I have just bought a backlit keyboard which I was going to install using my bookmark of your video as a guide, but a few days ago I partly threaded the one screw which allows the optical drive to come out and that was it, no more even thinking about touching the screws. I have a Samsung EVO 850 2TB SSD to use as a main drive, I have the backlit keyboard which might have the wrong cable configuration and screw holes (I couldn't open it up to see before I ordered it). This keyboard looks like yours, no symbol on the spacebar, just the dots on F12 ... but the cables for connecting I do not know yet?), I have 32GB RAM bought directly from Kingston Memory and I am waiting for a Samsung EVO 850 2TB SSD which is for the caddy going in the Optical Drive Bay. When this arrives it is all going to the shop to be put in by an expert who can get that optical drive screw out and not damage any others. I even boght those prying tools and some antistatic gloves because I always fry memory with the excessive static in me. The keyboard on my 8560W is a US one whereas the one which arrived a few hours ago is a UK one. I will find out in the shop what configuration the cables are meant to be and where the screw holes are to order another backlit keyboard if this one is wrong. I saw a backlit US keyboard on the US Ebay a couple of days ago but there was no picture of the cables and didn't want to buy it until I know the one I have is useless. I will open the keyboard packaging later today to compare the cabling with the keyboard in your video ... providing it is shown, I remember the back of the original keyboard is shown and that could give me a guide too. If I have doubts when ordering the next keyboard I will search for "Genuine HP Backlit Keyboard." But will it fit a European version of the 8560W. Maybe I best take a photo of the keyboard holes and cables on my current keyboard when they guy in the shop takes it out. I have to be there for a while to show them how to take the battery out and the bottom off - to prevent cracked plastic. I put an express card in the machine to give two additional USB3.0 and it will not boot with the expresscard plugged in. I was going to leave two Sandisk Ultrafit flash drives permanently in the USB3.0 ports in the expresscard. I have just ordered another expresscard, this time with renesas electronics in it because the 8560w has Renesas USB3.0 hardware installed. I might have to ask for your advice about the keyboard before I order another one. The Backlit one I have now was bought because it has a UK based seller and I wanted to avoid a 3 week wait.
Cool, good luck. In my video it does show the cables and which one goes where. The US and UK keyboards are a little different key layout and stuff but they will both fit. Let me know how it goes.
Not So Samurai You are right, the keyboard fits fine. The 32GB memory is in and the 2 EVO 850 SSD drives are in and the Keyboard. All working great. I took my 8560w to the shop very padded to avoid scratches on the top where the illuminated HP is. A couple of days after getting the workstation home I noticed 4 slight dents in the top.... so now a bit of anti-climax. I saw a Quadro 2000M on Ebay a couple of weeks ago going for about $40. It is a big upgrade on the 1000M which you have in your system. I am still to install After Effects CS6 and other resource intensive software to see the difference these drives and the 32GB of system Ram make. Your video and comments helped me be calm about the keyboard possibly being wrong. Thanks a lot for that.
***** Good to hear you got it up and running with no problems. The Quadro 2000m for $40 is a worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Let me know how it goes if you do purchase and install it.

Once you have the keyboard off you just make sure you have all the screws out and pop the top bezel off like I show in the video then there are a couple screws in the fans and you have to take some tape off the wire and be careful routing it and with the plug.
@@Notsosamurai1 Thank's, this did help a lot.

It would had been nice to know what HP spare part number you used for the keyboard replacement. HP has numerous part numbers for the backlit keyboards and this requires more research and a gamble not knowing if they all are compatible with the HP 8560 and/or 8570.

If they are not working I am guessing your keyboard is going bad. You can try unplugging the ribbon cable and reconnecting it to make sure its not loose or something. If that doesn't work you can get them pretty cheap on ebay.
Did you change the whole keyboard to get the f12 key function? Now that's what I call an upgrade!!!!
No I changed it because the original one was not backlit at all.
You keyboard popped loose a whole lot easier than mine. I found the tab in through the expansion port, but I worked on it until the tab seemed ready to break off and couldn't get the keyboard to pop. Worked on it for over an hour, but could not get it to pop.Any suggestions?
Im not sure why it would not pop. Make sure you don't miss any screws and it should pop right out.
Why do you have a Dell OEM COA on an HP laptop? It's not transferable (legally speaking).

The white ribbon is for the little mouse nipple thing on the keyboard. The orangish one is the backlite ribbon.

my 8560w doesnt have dimm slot underneath it's keyboard. what's going on? im surprised ang dissapointed.. did i just missed something?
If it comes with a dual core it will only have 2 DIMM slots. If it has a quad core it might have been upgraded.

Eric Base I think so with the 2 slot configuration. This is what the spec sheet says.
Memory Standard DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz)
Two or four SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory
2 GB, 4 GB, and 8 GB SODIMMs
NOTE: Four memory slots only on models with quad-core processor.
Maximum Upgradeable to 32 GB with (4) 8 GB SODIMMs
Dual-channel Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and

Question the ram under the keyboard you replace first then the slots under the laptop?
+Jerry Hutchens It doesn't really matter as long as you keep them grouped. Like either 2 under the keyboard or 2 under the laptop, or all 4 filled. I filled the 2 under the keyboard so that if I want to add 2 more it would be as easy as popping the bottom cover off.

32 GB in dual channel or quad channel; I forget which. You need to have the quad core i7 tho.

These also have 4 memory slots if you get a quad cor model so you can use up to 32GB of memory which come in handy when editing video or 3D rendering.

watching this on HP elitebook 8560w
hey also
The genuine HP backlit keyboard has a keyboard symbol on the spacebar. I'm just saying because you do not seem to realise this.
It does not have the symbol on the space bar for the 8560w. At least the US version. The last generation I think did. The one I bought is a genuine HP keyboard.
Not So Samurai
I have just bought a backlit keyboard which I was going to install using my bookmark of your video as a guide, but a few days ago I partly threaded the one screw which allows the optical drive to come out and that was it, no more even thinking about touching the screws.
These laptops are powerhouse!!! And will last for many more years!!!!!! Don't make them like this anymore .
Thats why I got it. I want to get the Elitebook 8770w. That was the last generation like this and its 17 inches.
Thanks for the great video, i have the 8770W runs like beast you wont be disappointed!
