    I think it is important to add that to disassemble the HP 8770W it is also necessary to have, besides a small phillips screwdriver, a small torx screwdriver (star shaped tip) since half of the screws are torx. I would advice anyone who wants to apply thermal paste or put the laptop back together, to take pictures of the connectors before disassembly every step of the way thus be able to reverse the steps successfully as you put the laptop back together.

      Ok i have 4 of these laptops and been maintenencing them in bulk. It's nor necessary to put the exact oem screws, I got multiple so maybe it's because I have an immediate reference on what it's suppose to look like but I replaced some screws with with new ones of the exact size because convinence. This laptop is real easy to service once you do it a few times

      I got multiple ones , and found out the old owner of one of the laptops broke a ribbon connector piece and put it back together using a piece of cut up credit card plastic . It's a real possibility you'll break it if you aren't careful. It's easy to figure out where the ribbons go because they only stretch out to the connector and there's no exception

    • @genesound
      @genesound Год назад

      It's not bad really. This video really helps. I changed the existing i7-2670 to an i7-2860QM, and I'll put in a GTX 970M (cheaper than 980 but still a big improvement) in when it arrives. A blue pull tab came off one of the ribbon cables. Very carefully put it back on with cyanoacrylate and accelerant. Works great.

      I found that wonderful.
      In the case of CPU, I would have tapped in a cross order, i.e., first one corner and then the opposite. It's a good practice screwing and unscrewing that way.

    This is wrong, you shouldn't take out the keyboard like that. DONT DO THAT YOU WILL BREAK A KEY! Theres a hole at the bottom you can push it thru that, but beware, the keyboard glued in place with 2 sided tape on the upper right and on the right side. When it pops on the left side out start taking it out with a guitar pick/another plastic pryer, or a thin card. Do not pop the plastic outer cover of the keyboard you need to get out the metal thing.

    Hello!
    I tried to look at the installation locations of thermal pads in this video. The video is useful, I am changing the video board for the 3rd time using this video. Every 2 years, as is customary on this laptop :). I noticed that the memory chips on the bottom side do not have thermal pads. Whereas memory chips are on the top side, they have such spacers. What is this connected with? And also, on the bottom side of the video card, and on the motherboard itself, there are gaskets that do not fit on the chipsets. Is this a board pad? The question is related to the fact that after the next replacement of the video card, the temperature on the video processor is from 56 to 99 degrees Celsius. It's a lot. And on the "GPU vrm" sensor in the Aida64 program, the temperature is 106 degrees Celsius. And this says that the video card was restored from oblivion in China. But, in any case, correct installation of the thermal pad will extend the life of the next Nvidia video card.

    i was trying to figure out which heat sink is which so im pretty surprised the gpu cooling solution dwarfs the cpu, i also i run nvidia inspector on my 8770w its got a k4000m in it and when i have it maxed out it was struggling to stay under 88 degrees so it was throttling, but i took the back metal plate off, the one that pops off and i had a 6 degree reduction and it was able to run full bore without throttling, my question is i am thinking about drilling tiny holes in the back plate a bunch of them and i want to know how many i should drill and where i should drill them

    guys, what do you think about this laptop? I want to buy this model, second hand but in very good condition.. does it really feel like i7 and 16gb? or as usually hp put 12-16gb with core i7 but laptop works as turtle? well, its business, not home, and business are much better than home ones.. so what do you recommend me? any hidden problems? graphics problem? heat problem? slow?

      I have it since June 2012, with i7 & FirePro M5950. The Machine can handle even todays applications like CAD software, it even can play older games (with a good SSD)! But my machine for a month now freezes randomly. I checked everything, all latest drivers installed, hardware diagnostics all fine and still can't figure out what's the problem. Today I replaced the CMOS battery to see if this helps, but not so optimistic! Still these machines are great, awesome build quality, 2 HDD bays + 1 if you change the DVD drive and not sure if the M.2 slot works with SSd!

    Hi. Do you think an 8760w could be upgraded to a 8770w just by replacing the motherboard and heatsink and keeping the chassis, screen, etc?

    • @spicey4522

      zwerne42 sounds like a lot of effort. wouldn't it be cheaper to jut buy a new one?

    • @zwerne42
      @zwerne42 7 лет назад +1

      Jenner Heggstrom I was just asking for curiosity. But I did read somewhere about a guy who did this upgrade. Also there are no 8770w laptops for sale here in Brazil :P
      So even if I buy a 8760W and upgrade it with a decent GPU I would also be able to import a 70w motherboard to use faster CPUs.
      But I would probably look for a Zbook 17 somewhere else. And with that I also get a Thunderbolt Port for eGPU

    • @N9olan
      @N9olan 7 лет назад +2

      I read somewhere about that as well, I remember he noted that it can be done but the trackpad will have to brought over from an 8770w and something else...I think the DisplayPort board were different-the connections I believe so if you were willing to live without the DisplayPort then the transfer can be done.

    • @Auditing102

      I think so. I did that with the probook 6460b and the elitebook 8460. I have both 8760w and 8770w laptops and they're identical. Not sure about the ribbon cable for the LCD screen but if it's not compatible then I just want to say a big fuck you to the engineers at HP who made them incompatible for profit
