  • I'm building a custom subwoofer enclosure and beauty panels based off 3d scan data for the first time ever. Today's the day we find out if everything fits, or if all my efforts are for nothing... Let's test fit!

    The technology has come so far. I use to use cardboard for 85%of box and trim. If it wasn’t perfect most of the time carpet covered it. Great job

    I think the sub box face should match the color scheme of the interior dash. If color needs to be added then do so with LED lighting.

    I like the idea of blue vinyl but LEDs would have been nice as well.

    This is what got me interested in 3D scanning. I want my enclosures to fit behind the wheelwells in my van, and not encroach on the cargo area. I don't have a fancy scanner, just an XBox Kinect sensor, so the resolution isn't great.
    I'm also planning my cable runs, and new center console the same way.

    I meant to leave you a comment on one of the previous videos of the elantra with some information that may be helpful for you. My box also has tight tolerances around those structural arches in the rear. I had to add sound deadening between the arches and the box as there are holes in the metal that began digging into the box from the vibration producing a horrible squeaking noise. It took probably 6 months before it started happening, and about a week of it before I could figure out where the noise was coming from, but it would be a good preventative measure to ensure it doesn't happen on his in the first place.

  • @darkwinter7395
    @darkwinter7395 3 месяца назад +1

    Um... dumb question ... it looks like a sealed enclosure, and the trim panels pretty much seal off the trunk volume... so... wouldn't it be better if there were some ducts to funnel the sound waves from the trunk volume thru the rear seats? Or even totally flip the sub enclosure around so they are firing thru the rear seats?

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 3 месяца назад

      Yes, it's a sealed box. Yes those trim panels do appear to block a lot of airflow. It looks like it's not completely blocked off, though.

    New to your channel. Very informative. Lots lots lots of information. Video idea: I need to update my car audio in my 70 chevelle... not going for the classic look... want something more modern. The idea is this: you babysit me through the different phases... setting goals, design, selecting components, etc.

    Do you have overheating issues with putting the amps behind the sub box?

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 3 месяца назад

      It's about the same as putting it anywhere else in the vehicle. This location is actually better in the sense that it has all the air in the trunk to help keep it cool.
      This particular amp is probably not going to run very hot since all five channels are class D. It's only a thousand watts and the way it's wired is not going to max it out. You'll probably only see 400 to 600 watts at most.
      So there should be no concerns about overheating.

    I built an enclosure from measurements taken in the trunk. I built the box. Built like a tank. It was gonna fit perfect. Had everything ready to go and mounted annnnnnnnd...
    It didnt fit through the trunk lid door. And....the trunk passthrough from the inside of the car was too small. Sooo... Two days of work and a full sheet of 3/4" MDF wasted. And a lesson learned.

      Supreme OOF moment. Been there for sure. Always helps to build three sides of the enclosure, even if its just with cardboard, to do a test fit.
