@sfantuch what are you complaining about? The enclosure has over 5 layers of glass which is more than sufficient for what it’s required to support. The only surface that isn’t a complex shape and flat is the bottom which is wood so it didn’t require structural bracing. Not to mention it’s been solid with no cracks or issues for several years of use so far. Do you have a video or something you have done to show us what right looks like?
@@Foxcraze unrelated to this comment. as someone who just spent a bit too much on a used router, seeing you suffer with that dremel made my purchase so much more tolerable.
@youngmango4508 so I read in a lot of old fiberglass box forums that it could help with decreasing internal sound reflection and resonance. Being able to build the enclosure to exact air specs would likely eliminate the need for the deadener but I knew it was an estimated air space and not perfect so I threw it in there to be safe. I can’t tell you if it truly made a difference or not because I didn’t test it before putting the material in🤦🏻♂️. That was another mistake I made in this process.
I was watching this and started to itch subconsciously!! LoL the thumbnail I thought the floor was vacuum stripes until I seen what you did there with the flooring. Looks really good!!
I was about to get started on this project for my car and wanted to see how others did it. This couldn’t have been more perfect for that. Same subwoofer location I am wanting, same materials I was looking to use, even the same subwoofer I’m hoping to use. When you whipped out the wood floor it really blew my mind because that’s exactly what I was planning to do as well, so in the future when I have air ride I will already have a nice trunk setup I’ll just need to add the tank and compressor and run the lines. Nice, I just purchased a 94 Mercedes Wagon and cant afford a box in my space if I plan on folding down my seats so this will be a perfect solution. I am sure your new Sub outperforms your factory sub.
Oh yeah making a custom box for your application will be a great idea! This setup hits way better than the factory setup did, I love it and works just fine for my needs!
Super clean build. About to start the journey myself to build a fiberglass box for my 5th gen 4runner to fit over the wheel well area. Def using your vid for guidance since it's been about 20yrs working with fiberglass to build a custom box. Again awesome vid and end result!
Yeah it’s very sturdy and has been in constant use since 2019. This video was a sped up version of the original build series, the entire box has minimum of 4 layers of glass.
I'm watching this a year after your original upload. I've watched your whole custom sub enclosure series and you've done a fantastic job. I'm now going to attempt to build 2 fibreglass speaker enclosures for my Seadoo jetski. Thanks so much for sharing. I've liked all your videos and subscribed.
That’s awesome to hear! I made this channel to document my projects in an effort to teach anyone something new and to learn from my mistakes. I’m glad it’s working!
Looks great! I have two of these from OEM Audio+ in my BRZ. The only thing that was puzzling to me was the Dynamat inside the enclosure. It won't let sound leak through the enclosure walls, but it will definitely create standing waves and reverberation. You need to use some polyfill insulation to help with that.
i got a e46 wagon and on both left and right there are some "doors" for battery and other side not sure what is there but im considering remodeling them to give some space for 2 subwoofers since the left and right side are a bit towards the fenders and have so much space that i can do a "inflated" shape hmmm... i like ur result
I realize this is 2 yrs old now - and I plan to look into your other videos you mentioned in other comments here about bracing and such - but my question is - is the sound deadening material INSIDE the sub box to prevent flexing, or stops it from shaking the side panels of the car? Would it be beneficial to add deadener directly to the car's body behind the carpet in the trunk too? Would it be advantageous to remove the carpeting completely on the side and use all the nooks and crannies for extra volume, or will that be bad for vibration since the box would be nearly touching the body panels without anything but a few layers of sound deadener between the fiberglass and body panels? I realize it also puts a damper on the installation as well getting it in to fit and take it back out, but I wouldn't plan on ever taking it back out unless I was going to rebuild it again anyway - and though perhaps using a few bolts could really hold it in place well too as part of the bracing? Sorry for all the questions - your build really inspired me and gave me a lot to think about! Great job! Another question - would a 15" sub with roughly 600-800 RMS be too much for a side mount sealed enclosure like this? I have two and was thinking of putting one on both sides of the car's trunk. Even if they are slightly angled upwards and forwards like you have in your video - does that make the sound from the opposite sub cancel out at all with both woofers in the same phase? Mostly a bit curious if a fiberglass box would work for a pair of 15"s and save some space for larger things in the trunk. (Brand is Stereo Integrity SQL 15s if that matters)
Alrighty so before responding I will say upfront that I am not an audio expert by any means and what I say next is based off of information gathering and personal experience. I’m gonna try and hit all of your questions but if I miss one, hit me back in a second response. So as for the sound deadening, I placed it inside the enclosure as a result of information I read in mid 2000s audio forums that stated that for fiberglass enclosures it would help kill standing waves and make the enclosure sound less hollow. I wasn’t sure if it would matter much but from my research it def wasn’t going to hinder anything either. Sound deadener can and should be applied to any thin metal to reduce vibration heard from outside the trunk and removing the carpet to get any extra hidden volume is always a great idea especially if your subs require a higher sealed volume to be effective. The subs you have need 2 cubic feet of airspace each and depending on the size of your trunk that might be hard to achieve without using the hidden recesses behind the carpet. I have never personally seen a 15” in a sealed corner mount enclosure but that doesn’t mean it’s not doable as long as the enclosure is built with enough layers to hold the weight or the 15” and larger enough to reach the 2 cubic feet of internal volume. Typically a molded enclosure will stay in place fairly well with very minor securing needed. I have seen people line the outside with velcro strips to grip the carpet flooring when the enclosure is installed and it work just fine. “mine has never moved this entire time” Lastly from what I have read, subwoofers are omnidirectional so facing them at one another should not cause any issues at all in performance.
It’s more than enough for my needs at this point in my life. I have had 4k watt systems pushing 12’s and 15’s in the past and I don’t need that anymore to be happy lol. Given the space that I wanted to occupy to keep trunk space available; I think porting it properly would take up more space than I would like. By purely guesstimating, .7 is around the air space this box has which is what this sub needed sealed.
Thanks I appreciate it! Between the fiberglass back of the enclosure contacting the carpet and the laminate that is pressed into the notched area I built in just under the face of the box it has not moved once.
Great work, any tips on how to lay the fiber flat and clean like yours? Last time I attempted it, I had bunch of large bubbles, and my initial base layer was very wavy, not clean like yours.
It all about percoating the surface with a light coat of resin before applying the chop mat then using the brush to press resin into the mat instead of brushing it into the mat. Pressing releases the air bubbles; brushing won’t.
That’s not pink foam it is stretch fleece that was stapled and glued to the fiberglass and wood frame to soak up resin which created the initial layer of the face of the enclosure. I have a 4 video series on my channel that goes into detail of the enclosure build. This was just a time lapse of the entire trunk project.
Totally lost between 3.17 to 4.15! Is there an extented video of what you did?. I guess pausing the video helps. What is that PINK stuff you used? material, sponge or rubber? Sorry new to this and fibre glass is not my greated suits lol
Don’t stress brother I have almost 2 hrs of detailed content on this build deeper in the channel. This video was only a compilation. The pink stuff was fleece.
I appreciate it, brother. I have a four-part video series that breaks down all the details on this build in my library and I highly encourage you check it out because it has a lot of detail that this video doesn’t explain. That said, the material is a simple fleece that I picked up at Walmart for like $3 a yard. Fleece is really good to stretch across a shell or frame to get your shape because it soaks up the resin and once hardened gives you a solid substrate that you can start adding your fiberglass cloth, carbon fiber cloth or whatever you wanna add on top of.
It’s 2” or 2.5” wide regular masking tape. That painters might use inside your house or when prepping a car for paint. Overlapping it in layers works great to protect the carpet.
This fiberglass build video is better than many easier found, higher viewed videos I've run across. Than you. Bit confused on why you used a kicker amp and Skar sub, unless of course you just had one of those lying around, lol.
Yeah the amp I had and it was within power range so I stuck with it haha if I add another sub I will go skar for the amp as well though! Thank you for the positive feedback, it’s much appreciated. I wish my confidence in front of the camera was better in this series as compared to the videos I’m making now. It would have been a much better filmed series had it been so.
Amazing build Foxcraze!! I've been wanting to start on a fiberglass enclosure for my two tens!! Almost like your build, but two different fiberglass enclosure's on each side. I will have to see how it would settle, since it might take up a lot more space, rather then doing one side. Still, amazing build!! This will definitely help a lot!
Awesome, I’m glad to hear it! For a more detailed build of the enclosure I have a 4 part series deeper in the video section that goes into way more detail.
Creating complex shapes is easy to do when using fleece. Stretching and gluing and or stapling fleece down on an area will give you a complex shape that you can then saturate in resin to get a solid foundation. Once it hardens, cover it internally and externally in layers of fiberglass to strengthen it.
I remember in the mid/late 90's where there were big car-audio competitions where skilled people would compete in who made the best sounding system that was hidden or more or less intergrated with the car. Much more interesting than watching someone toss 6 15" woofers into the car and think they got skills.
Agree. Always loved hidden systems. Back in the 90's a friend of mine had a civic hatchback with a 18" in a box that would barely clear the hatch. Didn't care then...
Hmm🤔 Still thinking about what kind of subwoofer I want but I will definitely do the wood floor at some point! Good video, shows the making of the box well.
I appreciate that! The plan is to do something like that when I get out of the military in a few years! So till then I just do stuff for myself when I have the time.
@@Foxcraze I have been retired for about 4 years and life in retirement is the bomb, New job isn’t nothing like being in the army but way better hours and pay.
So I do have an entire video on the floor Installation that will give a lot of context and answer any specific question you probably have. Essentially after drawing the outline the tape was placed on the outline to prevent the laminate planks from splintering and messing up the finish. The cardboard piece at the bottom was a template of the plastic trim so I could cut that off the planks as well before Installing.
Hello! one of the cleanest video ive seen so far. I actually have the same brand subwoofer but i have the SDR12. I am actually doing the same idea but using the spare tire area of my hatch. how long did this take you?
So I purely estimated on this thing due to the wooden base but if you make it out of all fiberglass then you could fill it with water and convert gallons to cubic feet.
With the lower end power I’m pushing to this 10”, I personally don’t hear a difference between the two I have ran. Many others say higher end systems sound better with a mdf box.
One color was fiberglass resin jelly and the other was bondo. They were both mixed with a small portion of resin and it’s liquid hardner to allow them to be brushed on and level out better. I have a 4 video series on the enclosure build that talks about it in better detail.
One of the most thorough sub enclosure build I’ve seen.. Wow! Awesome job. Looks great.

“mine has never moved this entire time”
Lastly from what I have read, subwoofers are omnidirectional so facing them at one another should not cause any issues at all in performance.
This is some magnificent job my man! Congrats!
Glad you like it! Appreciate the positivity!
How does it play? Could it possibly be ported? What’s the internal volume of something like that? I got a couple 10’s that love .7cuft
This is so clean and well done. Good job sir seriously.
Thank you I appreciate that a lot!
Wow that is an amazing amount of dedication! Turned out awesome!
I appreciate the kinds words! I plan to something a little different this fall.
Bro excellent work. I want to build one for two skar 8" Subs with the amp in the middle. This is helping me learn how to begin. Thank you
I’m glad it was able to help you out and good luck on your project!
Very nice work bro.
Appreciate that!!
Awesome work I appreciate it brother! 🥇🥇🥇🥇
Thanks for the positivity!!
Where did u get that vinyl wrap it looks great
I picked that up at JoAnn’s fabrics and crafts locally. It’s the 2 way stretch with no backing material added.
The box didn't need a hole to allow the movement of the air caused by the speaker?
The subwoofer works in both ported and sealed enclosures. The ported would have required more airspace so I decided on sealed.
@@Foxcraze such a great job
Thank you man!!
Nicely done, but how is it attached to the car?
Thanks I appreciate it! Between the fiberglass back of the enclosure contacting the carpet and the laminate that is pressed into the notched area I built in just under the face of the box it has not moved once.
Hey, can u tell me exactly what is this pink material between 3:18 and 3:40?
Trying to find some information but 0 effects with this searching. :(
No problem, that is ordinary fleece. It can be bought at Walmart in the craft section, at a Hobby lobby or Joanne’s craft store.
AI will never replace humans. This was amazing.
I appreciate that!
So how did you mold the front? It shows you cutting the speaker hole and then cut to you adding the pink foam.
Is the cabinet calculated?
Not perfectly but it’s estimated to be somewhere between .90 and 1 Cuft.
Cleanest build i have ever seen
Damn that’s to kind, thank you!
The pink stuff was fleece.
bro, really nice job. that was awesome
Nice job 👍How its play?
It sounds great inside and outside the car. When I try to record the play back aside from seeing the vibration it just doesn’t do the sound justice.
I came back just to watch again.Although I have a system in my car.I want to scrap it and get this done.
That’s awesome! I really enjoyed putting this together and think I wanna switch it up here soon also!
awesome vid what did you use for the face side? looked like some sort of fabric?
I appreciate it, brother. I have a four-part video series that breaks down all the details on this build in my library and I highly encourage you check it out because it has a lot of detail that this video doesn’t explain. That said, the material is a simple fleece that I picked up at Walmart for like $3 a yard. Fleece is really good to stretch across a shell or frame to get your shape because it soaks up the resin and once hardened gives you a solid substrate that you can start adding your fiberglass cloth, carbon fiber cloth or whatever you wanna add on top of.
Man I need to much bass to run something this small but boyyy do I gotta say.. you made that look damn good!
I appreciate it!
what tape did you use to keep the resin off of the carpet>
It’s 2” or 2.5” wide regular masking tape. That painters might use inside your house or when prepping a car for paint. Overlapping it in layers works great to protect the carpet.
not the trolling motor hack! thats pretty genius!
Appreciate it! It’s not the prettiest but it’s worked like a charm every time I need to remove it from the trunk!
@@Foxcraze I have a little skar 8 in the back of my rav 4 and this little trick is gonna work perfect !
Fantastic!!
Like it super clean job!!
Appreciate it brother!
This made my day.
Glad you enjoyed it man!
awesome job man, that looks sick
Appreciate that!
Holy Crap that’s freaking AWESOME
Appreciate that bro! Still looking as good as it did when I installed it all!
How was the sound with the corner sun? (Versus traditional enclosures)
From what I can tell, It really didn’t change in sound quality. Both sounded the same but the corner enclosure def helped free up space.
came out nice
Thank you!
Hell of a job man beautiful
Appreciated it brother!
@@Foxcraze np im tryna be like you my boy
Awesome job 🙌
Thank you!
This is incredible. Does it bother you that there are two wood patterns right next to eachother?
Damn now that you mention it, yeah it does lol. I have some extra planks and might just fix that this weekend.👌🏼
so clean! does the wood floor help
with the sound?? or was it just for aesthetics?
I appreciate it brother! Honestly I never thought if it would help or not but it is a good question! I did it just for aesthetics.
Reflective surfaces are terrible for sound
Was the front of the box made with foam and resin then fiberglass?
Creating complex shapes is easy to do when using fleece. Stretching and gluing and or stapling fleece down on an area will give you a complex shape that you can then saturate in resin to get a solid foundation. Once it hardens, cover it internally and externally in layers of fiberglass to strengthen it.
@@Foxcraze genius
I remember in the mid/late 90's where there were big car-audio competitions where skilled people would compete in who made the best sounding system that was hidden or more or less intergrated with the car.
Much more interesting than watching someone toss 6 15" woofers into the car and think they got skills.
Agree. Always loved hidden systems. Back in the 90's a friend of mine had a civic hatchback with a 18" in a box that would barely clear the hatch. Didn't care then...
Nice video! I'm adding another 'project' to my car build. 🤣
Sweet, if you want a more detailed how to of everything I have separate videos on the channel outlining damn near every step of the process.
Hmm🤔 Still thinking about what kind of subwoofer I want but I will definitely do the wood floor at some point! Good video, shows the making of the box well.
Thank you! There is a 4 part series further back in channel just on the enclosure build.
Man, you should go into business with a build like this. It really came out clean. Great Video and one of the best I have seen.
I appreciate that! The plan is to do something like that when I get out of the military in a few years! So till then I just do stuff for myself when I have the time.
@@Foxcraze I am a retired Army Vet with over 27 years of service. Use your VA to help with you business for sure. Keep it going!!!
@@beekaye1496 4.5 more years till retirement then it’s time to do what I love! I will def look into that when the time comes!
@@Foxcraze I have been retired for about 4 years and life in retirement is the bomb, New job isn’t nothing like being in the army but way better hours and pay.
Can you explain the cutting of the wood? I didn’t understand that part
Beautiful job.Neat and discreet
Thank you!!
It turned out damn nice! 👍👍✌️
I appreciate that!
Hello! one of the cleanest video ive seen so far. I actually have the same brand subwoofer but i have the SDR12. I am actually doing the same idea but using the spare tire area of my hatch. how long did this take you?
Due to my overly busy family and work schedule about a month. But it could have been faster !
How would you measure the internal volume of an enclosure like this?
So I purely estimated on this thing due to the wooden base but if you make it out of all fiberglass then you could fill it with water and convert gallons to cubic feet.
How does a fiberglass box sound compared to a mdf box?
With the lower end power I’m pushing to this 10”, I personally don’t hear a difference between the two I have ran. Many others say higher end systems sound better with a mdf box.
Was the brown n gray coating bondo? If so why was it so watery?
One color was fiberglass resin jelly and the other was bondo. They were both mixed with a small portion of resin and it’s liquid hardner to allow them to be brushed on and level out better.
I have a 4 video series on the enclosure build that talks about it in better detail.
@@Foxcraze thank you
Wow! Awesome job. Looks great
I appreciate that man, thanks!
Nice job! Btw, did you use a dc to dc convertor from the penthouse?
