- I'm working on building a custom ported subwoofer enclosure for four AudioControl Spike Series 12" Subwoofers. In past videos I've designed the enclosure, completed the woodworking process, and now I need to coat the box with a special speaker enclosure coating and wire the subwoofers. Let's get to it!

Big ole box of bass , great job mark … wouldn’t expect anything less
Bro i have watched a ton of your videos and i have to say u build the most absolutely professional looking enclosures ever
I bought a schematic from you a couple months ago and I'm halfway done with it now thanks to you
I love using Duratex and you're right about making sure that the roller is rolling. All it takes is one time to see the result of that 😆😆. And I was surprised by how fast it dries when I first used it. Good looking box and I bet it sounds good. 👍🏽
Hello!
I have a car stereo tuning business in Korea on the side job . I became a fan when I saw your RUclips channel, so I also named my shop the fabs(the fabrications) by referring to your RUclips name. Your skills always seem to be the best. I hope to meet you someday if I have a chance
I hope you are always healthy
Thx , very slick, skillful & insightful… Very gracious. Hope your channel keep’s growing!!
Merry Christmas
J.
Great looking cabinets and the theme is perfection the sound deadening on inside wire just shows that your a top notch audio file .great job .
Those boxes for the subs remind me of JL Audio sub boxes.
That is one beautiful enclosure Mark. Simple and clean is what you get from CAF.
Man that is so nice . ❤
We always checked polarity with a 9v battery...what a cool new tool
Looks great! With the texture could you have skipped the filler step?
Great job. 🙌🏾
Nice looking box
Very nice i need this for a 2004 Yukon Xl
I need that box in my tundra!!!!
Don't forget to do another polarity check as you're putting the speakers back in the box before you mount them permanently since you're going to take them back out to save weight when you go to put the box in. I do have a question for you, I know that your channel offers a lot of builds, but it seems like a 4-12 box is pretty common on the marketplace nowadays, what made you decide to build your own instead of just buying one from a decent manufacturer? Was it because you wanted to tune it to a certain frequency that would have been different from pre-made boxes? Or was it to cut costs? Or maybe just assurance that it's built the best way you knew it could be? I used to build boxes for my subwoofers but nowadays I don't do as much because I have found a few good boxes that are designed so well that I didn't see that it made any sense to spend the time and money doing it.
damn , thats time to bumbambam!
Looks great. Is there any reason you didnt use a connection block on the box insteead of feeding it through a small hole?
How good do you think the Audio Control Space series is?
3 ohm speakers
So if you wire 2 in parallel
Give you 1.5 ohm
Load will it be fine
If you use a amp that is 1 ohm stable
Those subs are nice... Just check them out... Good price too.... I'm eager to see what amplifier you choose.. To power all 4
Probably a audiocontrol lc1500.1
Can we use this in a dedicated home theatre room
make a spl box for 8 12inch subwoofer 2.5k rms each subwoofer 5000w ?
I wanted to know how you can tell if a sub box is tuned to 32Hz
Hey Mark, this is very Pro Audio like. (Think concert speakers) Have you ever played around with the idea of building a Pro Audio sub? Very nice work by the way!
Can you meter it with SPL labs or to check sound pressure.
Although this is not designed with SPL as the goal I will probably measure with a TermLab Magnum just for curiosities sake.
Reminds me of a bass guitar cab , have u thot of doing tht ? And a question about the speakers , why 12s and not 15s .. Probably snds great just curious .
👍
Hey mark great content as always man! I was looking at your videos from 7 yrs ago on RTA. This is gonna prolly be a dumb question but do you happen to know any shops in Texas that actually test and tune like this. All audio shops around me just tune it by sitting in the vehicle and just changing things. I’d like to get it REALLY done!
I came from FB
Hi is the duratex paint a acoustic dampener paint? Would there be any benefit to use it on the inside of a box? Especially a plywood box
Acrytech, the makers of Duratex do have a product specifically designed for inside the enclosure as well.
Hello!I have a reno megane 2005 and i want to replace the 2 front speakers with some louder-better ones.I am think of 50-70 w RMS (the stock size must be 5.25 i think )Will i need an amplifier for that ?Or just plug and play ?Thank you
If you have the time pleaze answer
Hey what’s the T shaped tool you used at 01:23?
How did they sound ? and is it hard to build their 3-way speaker set?
Not installed yet. Will find out soon!
Why do you not use a connection block on the box? Drilling a hole and filling looks so pants and not professional at all using a connection block would finish off the box really nicely 👌, loving the series keep up the good work! 👍
With this enclosure being so large I wouldn't be able to access the connection point in vehicle, I need a connection that is further off the enclosure. Hard to explain but this enclosure goes in tight. Having a speaker terminal AND a quick disconnect is more added connection points than I prefer. The hole is also small so I can easily drill out next to it with a hole saw to add speaker terminals if I so choose.
Question, can you use only glue for box building or do you need nails as well?
Clamp, then hold in place with brad nails. The glue joins the connection. You could leave out the brad nails as long as you are properly clamping and allow time for the connection to dry.
Hey I have a question? I have always heard that funky crossbracing on the inside of the enclosure can cause the subs to roll off certain frequency making it sound strange with some songs? Have you noticed anything like that? Bc if not that is a super cool way to add extra strength to enclosure
Maybe if it was excessively oversized but that sounds more like someone trying to justify why they shouldn't put the effort into bracing properly than anything I've ever experienced
@CarAudioFabrication I like the extra bracing. Like I said I think it looks great but I just asked bc I wouldn't want to go through all the extra work of adding the extra braces if it made the bass sound wonky while playing metal with double bass drums. S.q. is what I was referring to. I think it looks 👍 great
One thing I never could understand, is how, if you somehow hook speakers up backwards, if for instance they, or the cables, don't have visible polarity markings or something, they, at least in my limited experience, seem to still work with no noticeable changes... I get that there likely are changes, and can be problems, but I still wonder about that sometimes...
If one of the speakers was not in correct polarity with the other there would be a VERY noticeable reduction in bass. If all four were incorrect together you wouldn't notice as much, it would be come more noticeable in the handoff to the next speaker, in this case the midbass in the system, but would depend on if the time delay had the relationship in phase or not. Which is why many head units and amps feature a simple phase switch, or a DSP can be used to dial in the correction.
Do the subs only have one coil?
These are single voice coil. Keep in mind there is no benefit between DVC or SVC other than wiring flexibility.
Any chance we’ll see this in the vehicle and bumping soon? 🫨
Hey Mark I just thought of an awesome idea for your channel. It would be a different series of videos so to speak. Do I just send you my idea through your website? I think I've sent ideas there before but wasn't all too sure they went through lol..
Sorry, but what vehicle is this going into? I must have missed that info on this video series.
I dont really talk about it because too many people then assume "I don't have x vehicle so this video doesn't have value" when in reality any project I do can be applied to any vehicle.
Hii brother,
I am very well stucked can u please help me out
I have a 2 channel a/b amp boss pt1000
And 2 svc 4ohm subs
I want to bridge my amp and take the utmost power but its 4 ohm
Is there any way to pair my subs at 2 ohm and also have the briged wattage from the amp ??
Please advise i have installed my system myself and now stucked at this phase 🙏🏻
Ty
What's outer dimension of the box ? L x W x H
I dont recall off hand but it's huge. Lol
@@CarAudioFabrication I will appreciate if you give some dimensions outer diameter
Theses subs are completely over priced and under perform they retail for $279.00 what exactly we paying for the audio control name it's an average sub for a premium price
100$ subs at best...
4real!! Could go with some Skar Audio SDR 12s at $89 a pop and be golden. But they are not sponsoring this vid so here we are lol
@@jaz97skar audio is garbage
@@tvzni7907 No one likes to hear it but they are. 😂 I've bought 2 different variants of their subs and the amp they sold in a kit with the subs and they blew within a few weeks. I'm now running 2 American bass 12s on a 3k and an FI bvl v2 12 on a 2k.
Idk, I think JL audio is a lot more premium price than those considering they got a 12” sub for $1300 but most are $350-$500
I do not use nails to subwoofer box NO THANKS plus all the bracing takes away air space for me NO thanks. I need ALL OF THE AIR SPACE either for a SQ sound or SPL/Low end
ok
Why not tell us your reasoning behind those rules of yours? Maybe we can learn something from it?
you are wrong
Uh, there's a LOT of energy being generated by those 4 12s. The bracing is definitely needed. The space taken up by extra support is miniscule in comparison to not bracing a box that size properly. Without the bracing, the sides will resonate like crazy.
