Back in the day Cadillac chrome bumpers were the thing to steal...Thieves would unbolt them and run, folks started welding the bumper bolts and that stopped the thefts.
Here’s an idea ! Stupid car makers need to get it together and fix that problem.. better design needed.. damn we put a man on the moon but can’t design a tailgate to not be easily stolen 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
My truck has a manual lock but wasn't fancy enough to have an electric lock. I recently converted it to electric lock with parts from a company Pop & Lock. Now it's locked every time I lock my truck. I know it's not the same, but they may make parts for different situations as well.
@@GanderFlight We have different trucks, so YMWV. For me, not difficult but did require a little critical thinking when I had some clearance issues. My bracket needed a small adjustment/bending to get it to fit perfectly which took an extra 15 minutes to sort out. I feel like I got my money's worth. I bought it mostly because I wanted to move my tools from the cab of my truck to the bed.
Seen a vid on this 10 years ago.. worked great! Except they stole the truck.
Insurance claim on a stolen truck is going to be easier than a stolen tailgate. :)
welded up the slot in my pivots. no longer comes off.
lol - that's one way to do it!
Good tip

👍
Lock the tailgate. Simple.
👍
@@GanderFlight Nope... thieves are now breaking the factory lock... gone.
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712by key or remote
@@jerryjeromehawkins1712 If they are breaking locks, a hose clamp is not going to help
Or lock the tailgate
You can reverse the hinges of the tailgate.
👍
Very creative😎
👍
They broke it with a screwdriver!
???
Does this work on a power tailgate? Not that I’m concerned someone’s gonna take it but just curious
Unknown.
Who the f*** steals tailgates? Like how poor do you have to be.
Dunno - but it happens
America...
Ever seen a vehicle on blocks? Tailgates these days cost as much a a set of wheels and one guy can carry it!
Yup went to a Home Depot for 20 mins came out to see my Tacoma tailgate taken, I love California lol 🤦♂️

😱
Ya bro. I live in an area full of em
Well when they sell for a ridiculous price
I saw a Maverick tailgate on ebay for $1200 I suspect it was stolen

Mine has the electric locks from factory. I am sure I have a hose clamp laying around. I am gonna put one on my RAM. Nice tip.
Nice! How was the Pop & Lock install for you?
Right? Its so easy and cheap - why not?

Hey I got a question. Is it better to go with aftermarket power locks or oem retrofitting? Cheaper? I was thinking getting parts at a junkyard.
Why would someone steal a tailgate?
Dirtbags will steal anything that someone else will buy
Because tailgates are super expensive.
