Great job! I simply prevent CAT theft by removing them. Can't be stolen if they not there! ( Warring: In the state of California you can be put to death for modifying your car, I don't think they even allow bumper stickers there. It is down right SCARRY there! ) .. Again, you are doing great with your videos!
If you have the old version of the CatShield, there are ways to modify the shield to countersink the bolts so you don't have to buy the new version. Option 1: weld a thick stainless steel ring (washer) around each bolt head. Option 2: Take the shield to a shop with a hydraulic press and use a small dimple die to press a recessed section around the bolt hole. As long as thieves can't cut the entire bolt head off, then they can't remove the shield.
I installed the earlier version based on Chloe's earlier vid last year. I'm happy with the earlier stainless cat guard - at least it slows down, possibly discourages the perp from your vehicle. Park smart, garage when possible and put the key fobs to sleep mode if you have push button start. An affordable upgrade plan for existing MillerCat owners would certainly be an incentive to upgrade.
Thank you for creating this channel. I have a 2018 tacoma access cab. Your knowledge is amazing. Had my converter stolen from the parking lot of the company for whom I work. Great channel!
Just brought my new Taco Sport home this month, loving the channel, thanks! This will be my first major mod. I had my cat converter stolen from my first gen Tacoma while I was at work, it probably took them 2 or 3 minutes to get under the truck and unscrew the bolts. I ended up tack welding the bolts on back then. This is a much better solution!
i have the same shield!! i love it very much! after my neighbor got his tacoma cats stolen i said nope! so i used your code chloe and i feel super relieved and not to worried now!
i just bought a cat shield for my Tundra n it only has 4 screws. i love how urs have multiple screws n the bar to prevent thieves from using a PRY BAR to break the screws So once my cat shield arrives, i'ld have to add chain o bicycle cables to secure both ends thru the pre-cut vent holes to prevent thieves from using PRY BAR to break the 4 screws n steal both my cat n shield The shield that i got covers ALL 4cats, most shields covers only 2 cats. !/4" thick Aluminum weighing 35 lbs. it comes with 4 Allen bolts, washers, screws, so i need to buy some security screws o leave it since ill be using chain/bike cables to lock the shield for added security. The 4 screws not adequate to prevent thieves from using Pry Bar to break it ✌✌
Just ordered the heavy duty catshield, and the toyota dealership is going to install it for half hr labor cost😊 and thank you for the $20 discount❤ love your content 😎🤙🏼
My co worker had a shield on his Prius and they still stole the Cat. I also have this shield on my Tacoma but I garage mine now. I would say if you don't have access to a garage, make it as inconvenient for them as possible. Maybe put something under your truck so they can't get under, cover it, or do something along those lines.
Excellent job on the install. Thanks for all the detailed information. Isn't it sad we have to have these gadgets in the first place? Oh well - better to be secure than to be ripped off.
Chloe, thank you for making this video. Thanks to you I purchased this cat shield within days of buying my taco (her name is ZooZZY). My goal is to copy almost all, if mot all, of your mods. Thanks again.
Yes California smog inspection what a scam. Lucky I don't live out there no more. I could do whatever I want to my vehicles. A new. Vehicle? Smog inspection really. What a scam..
I’m a 4Runner guy. But much love to my Tacoma friends! I really enjoy your content. Can I suggest you reach out to a 4Runner for a video? Just a couple? Might help expand your viewership
do they do trade-in the old 16 gauge steel for this newly-upgraded heavy duty shield? I already bought the stainless steel 16 gauge from Miller Cat last year. If they do allow trading-in, i think i might get this heavy duty one.
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to educate us on the cat shields / skids. Are they also designed for a 3rd Gen Tacoma with manual transmissions?
Nothing will ever keep anyone out completely if they have the skills and right tools for the job. The entire purpose of stuff like this is to just add an extra layer of security and to add more time to the amount it takes to steal. But then again if you're in NY or CA most people would probably just ignore the guy under your truck cutting a metal box apart. :/
With my luck I'd assemble the new shield put new and old side by side, turn around, then install the old shield onto the vehicle. Only realizing after the fact. 🤦🏾♂😓
We tow a two ton camper so I plan on draining and replacing the transmission fluid at about 40K miles. Would having the catalytic converter shield make that more difficult? Thanks. Love your videos!
And you should route that exhaust pipe directly into the pickup's interior so only you will benefit from the now more potent exhaust fumes being emitted. Enjoy your exhaust sucking! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey do you notice of the moisture from the air conditioner collects on the shield? I noticed that the moisture is not really leaking onto the ground after installed the shield.
I just checked out their website. According to what I read these aren’t to be used on a modified suspension. Are they talking about a heavily modified suspension as opposed to a simple lift kit? Talking about a cat shield for a second gen only.
You know in a few day Toyota is going to reveal the new Tacoma! Do you think it going to be be a turbo 4 like the new Chevy Colorado or are they sticking with the 6 cylinder?? TFL say's turbo 4.
What prevents a thief from just unbolting the cat shield? Even with safety bolts it’s easy to use a m12 cordless impact to remove it. I guess it just takes a little longer. A good car alarm would be better. Nice vid though 👍🏼
The thief will crawl under your truck with a Sawzall, then see the shield and need to go grab the impact driver and bit. If you watch cat theft videos, they're in and out within 2 minutes. It's a not perfect, but a decent detriment.
Like any theft deterrent its just that. Unless you have a guard dog around your car at all times someone determined enough can steal anything. But do you really think someone would waste that amount of time to steal one Cat from a vehicle with this installed instead of just moving along to another one that is far easier. Also they are probably doing a lot in one time period.
@@ChloeKuo It is a numbers game and if you make it more difficult it will discourage them. It is a fact that most thieves target easy targets with the least amount of effort. Its common sense.
Criminals don’t care about how heavy duty the shield is. If something is in the way they will pick a new truck. Criminals are lazy and want the easiest target.
Got my Taco a little over a month ago and the previous version of this cat shield was the first mod I did. So well worth it.

I just installed the Cali Raised units on my 2023 TRD PRO. Very easy install and heavy duty for $189.
I love how they came out with this not a week after I received my 16 gauge version. ...
Thanks for taking so much of your time to make these videos. They really help. Health and happiness to you.
The Cat Shield was the very first thing I bought for my ‘22 Tacoma, based on your first video last year. Very easy to install.

I just got a 2023 Tacoma and was thinking of doing this since there have been more thefts in my area. Thanks for the video!

There should be a law that allows citizens to beat cat thieves with actual cats.
🙀
@@JasonExplainsThings exactly! Like the crazy cat lady from the Simpson's.
Sterling is a felony. We can shoot you for that in Florida. Lol
No poor kittys

Chloe, I ordered the heavy duty cat shield thru your provided link and that decision saved me $25.00, thank you dear.

Awesome video as always! Really is a bummer the older one didn’t have the recessed bolts. That’s the one I got and definitely wish it had that.
16ga is probably too thin for the recessed bolts

I'm not sure it's a scam. I remember how bad the air was 40 years ago.
But registration here in Cali is definitely ridiculous.
New vehicles aren’t required to be smog checked for 3-5 years
I have my highlander 2015. Almost 8 years in August no smog required yet.
Thanks for sharing. Going to look into this.
Catshield makes a stainless steel version for FJs - been looking for something like this. Thanks!

I also painted the 2 cats and the 2 resonators with high temp bright orange paint!
I would have painted "say hello to the onboard camera" on the cover :)

Was the catalytic converter shield compatible with the Cali Raised transfer case plate you previously installed on your Tacoma?
Are people into reruns?
Had a Cat Security guard installed a while ago. But lately Scrubs drilling holes in the gas tank to steal your gas. 🤙

Such a baddass video, thank you for doing this!!!!
Smog checks!! Lol
Not in the free state of Florida.
Are you going to get the new Tacoma right away and build it like this one or are you going to stay for at least one year after the new one comes out ?
They don’t crawl under you vehicle to check the cats during a smog check. It’s just a obd-II connector and a sniffer in the tailpipe
Do you happen to have a discount code for this Cat shield
If you use the link in her bio it’ll automatically put the discount code in for you.

Does the shield interfere with any necessary maintenance or service requirements?
Could the stainless steel cause galvanic corrosion of the truck frame in a region that uses salt to melt snow and ice on the roads?
Awesome looks great
Good video. What prevents a thief from removing the bolts and taking the catalytic converter?
Cats are so restrictive! I removed mine as soon as my state ended inspections. MPG and power went up 20%

Does the shield interfere with your oil change?
Hi There 👋 is there's an inconvenience to change the Oil?
awesome
Already have the SS one on my truck. I don't think Ill drop another $500.00 on a thicker shield.
