  • In today’s video, I’m going to show you how to install stair treads and risers that will never squeak. You will also notice that during the entire installation we do not have any nails or screw penetrations through the face of the stairs and the risers. This is the best tutorial on how to build a stair case. We used three methods of securing the steps to the stringers.
    This is our first go at building our own staircase, and we have definitely learned a lot and can do better in the future.

    That's a bit overkill, but they surely will never squeak. You do nice work.

    Once that lumber dries out in the winter when the heat is turned on the lumber will shrink, glue joints will fail and the stairs will squeak. Also, all stringers have some bounce inherent in them. Squeaking is two pieces of lumber rubbing against each other. This used to be a big problem with flooring. A small strip of tar paper between the two pieces of lumber allows the lumber to dry and rub against each other with no squeaks. And its a lot faster ! "A" for effort and execution but it wont solve the problem. Ive done a lot of stair repairs in my life so I have experience with this problem ! Good furniture makers make provisions for a table top to float on the frame due to the frame lumber and the top lumber expanding and contracting at different rates. They do this because they tried glue and screws but that just created cracks in the top when the lumber dried. Same might happen to these stair treads. They may crack when they dry out due to the glue and screws. Most stairs are assembled with wedges that accommodate some movement. After 25 years a lot of these wedges are lose even though they were tight as can be when assembled !

      Anyone who does this for a living knows this isn’t how it’s done. They also know there is no chance these stairs will ever squeak or the “glue joints” will fail.

      Можно торцы не на клей сажать а саморез и торцы соединений промазывать воском...

      The bottom tread will probably have rotted and turned to dust by the time he gets to the top 🥱🐌

    The loctite pl 3x glue alone would be enough with some trim nails until they dry

    Or you could get some girder beams from a bridge and a hundred tons of prestressed concrete. I'd throw titanium treads in just in case.

    What do the dowels do for you that the adhesive doesn't?

    • @ecstazyrm
      @ecstazyrm 3 месяца назад

      The dowels take the screws. Better to screw to a dowel than to MDF

    For that much work you should have just routed the stringers. But you did it for the video and there's not enough different steps to keep people watching a router on a jig I guess. Just the same perfect cuts over and over without weakening the treads.

    You didn't isolate the riser from the tread, so more than likely they will squeak.

    Так стремно, неаккуратно, потеки клея 🥴🥴🥴. Хорошо, если так делать в гараж, но для дома трэш. Вообще мастер должен работать аккуратно, а не так как в видео.
