- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- Today I'm going to show you how to make this creamy coleslaw with plenty of crunch.
There's no need to buy a big tub of coleslaw with an annoyingly short expiration date when you can whip up a perfect sized batch of homemade coleslaw in 5 minutes.
So good as a side for summer barbecues and lazy lunches, or as a topping for pulled pork and crispy chicken burgers.
Full recipe including hints and tips here: www.kitchensan...
Ingredients for the Coleslaw:
1/2 a large (or 1 medium) white cabbage
2 medium carrots - peeled
1/4 brown onion - peeled
1 cup (240g) mayonnaise
3 tbsp sour cream
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar - granulated or superfine
1/8 tsp mustard powder
Pinch white pepper

I made my own Coleslaw, I just made it up as I went along.
I don't add any sugar.
You don't need it!!
First time i made it, it was amazing!!
Homemade coleslaw is so much better than pretty much every coleslaw you buy from a supermarket and it's way cheaper. Add in some sultanas (gold raisins in the US) for a touch of sweetness.
Nice and simple and straight to the point in a short video. Delicious. Thank you!
Maybe it's a yank thing..but never added onion..well done ✔️
Always add onion!!!
Healthier option is mix 3 tablespoons Yogurt to 1 of Mayo add mustard. So much better for you and yummy.
No. No. No. Better is Mayonnaise. This is not a Hospital. End of Story.
i love to use my mums recipe chopped up white cabbage ..the classic frozen veg with the peas n.green peas lots of onion..my mum got it from a pub she worked in 50 years ago..never make anything else.
My ingredients are Cabbage , carrot,Scallions ,(Spring onion) lemon juice, mayonnaise 😋😋 try a shredded knife for to cut the cabbage thinly, grade the carrots , slice the scallions thinly to, add the lemon juice , then the Mayo , mix thoroughly in a large bowl if you have a pair of vinyl gloves just perfect to get stuck in, let it rest in the fridge for half hour even tastier the next day 😋
"Sweat" the slaw in advance to draw out the water, and if the carrots or red cabbage is soaked in water in advance, it will drain the colors so it won't bleed into the slaw later.
@@Kman. how do you sweat it
@@veronicamoorman1618*Edit... if you have already added any carrots or red cabbage to your slaw yes*I will sweat the slaw separately and soak the red cabbage and carrots in water and then pat those dry before adding them to the slaw. sorry, but salt the cabbage a little bit and place it in a colander. You will see the water start to run right out and the color, in just a few minutes.
@@Kman. I think you are saying salt the cabbage after you shred it then you soak the cabbage and carrots then you rinse and drain before adding other ingredients...correct? I do appreciate your reply but I am new at this it's not you it is me trying to figure out the process. Thanks again and GOD BLESS!
@@veronicamoorman1618 I keep the red cabbage and carrots separate and soak them in water by themselves. I sought the regular cabbage after it has been shredded. I then combine everything, of course after the red cabbage and carrots are dried off with a towel or by whatever other means, then put everything together together including the seasonings, sour cream, mayo or whatever else you may use.
Mix all of the creamy ingredients together before adding to veg.
Just what I was going to say :)
Can I use Apple cider vinegar?
She needs to be cancelled she is out of order on that one I'm telling my mum
Not a big deal in fact.

Why don't you do a video
You're wrong! You say it's just like those supermarket coleslaws. Any homemade food is immeasurably better than any pre-bought garbage.
No. You’re wrong. If someone doesn’t know how to cook, their “homemade” food can taste like s**t.
@@timtyndall4025 Homemade food shouldn't contain additives, chemicals etc. Homemade food is always better than toxic processed food.
Not all supermarket clowslaw is bad it depends on which ones you get.
@John Cena ok. You stick to your store-bought food full of preservatives, colourings and stabilisers. I'll stick to my real food.
A Sensible Young Man Is The Perfect Name Yall Trippin Over Coleslaw💀🤣🤌🏽
THIS is what I was looking for. Thank you! Not runny or dry. Perfect balance.
"We're going to cut the cabbage with a mandolin"
Me thinking of the instrument:
The salad cream is a little heavy for me .. what do you think of adding some Greek yoghurt instead ? I think I’ll use red onion
She doesn't use salad cream, she uses mayonnaise.
Hello 👋 Rose B
How are you doing happy New Years
Perfect recipe and yes it looks easy. Thank you.
What makes it even better is if you make it two to three days ahead of time put it in the refrigerator and let it marinate
Hey can l make a basic coleslaw using just cabbage, carrot, pink onion and classic mayo and salt as dressing? I have never had or tasted coleslaw before l really wanted to make it.. thanks please reply
Didn't have mustard powder, and had to sub in cracked black pepper for white, and regular vinegar for white wine vinegar. Turned out amazing! Way better than store bought. Super easy and tasty thank-you 🥰🥳

Try apple cider vinegar.
I put little horse radish in mine
Nice!
I never thought of that. Would be interesting I will try it
Going to make it today
I made it today and totally loved it. It’s my new go to coleslaw. Thanks!
I substitute sugar and white wine vinegar with vinegar from a sweet pickle jar.
What a great idea ! 😋😊 Thanks for sharing your tip!
That will work. If it’s too mild and you want to make it more tart, add some apple cider vinegar
I use pickle juice to help make potato salad creamier, just a tbls or 2.
Where I'm from in the south, we make our coleslaw dressing with mayo, sugar and pickle relish along with salt and pepper to taste. Also, if the pickle relish I'm using doesn't have celery seeds already in it, I will add them to it sometimes.
south where?
Напишите пожалуйста пропорции , сколько чего ❤
That's just how I make mine looks delicious! I like to add a dollop of sour cream to the mayonnaise. Great video
Sounds great!

Wow, this is the best coleslaw I've ever tried in my life!!! Homemade! Omg, will never buy it in the shops again hahaha))) Thank you so much for this great recipe!!)))
Oooh coleslaw..I'm in as long as there is a hint of Dijon...
That's what I said. Ooooh, I would rather have a moldy biscuit.
@@SuperDarkrock weirdo
Looks nice may I suggest a tbs toasted sesame seeds mixed in . that’s very nice to
if you are on a diet, you can make the same, just with greek yogurt...now, it's not mayo but hey...you can eat without regret :D
how about you bitter coleslaw
This is my favourite thing to eat when we have cabbages to harvest!! We have it with every meal in the summer and even in the winter sometimes! I have cravings now lol
With all my respect this is just a bomb. Thumbs up! The sause is just gorgeous. Salt-sugar-acid proportions are simply amazing. Cost - 1 dollar, taste - 1 million.
In 2024 the price is not 1 dollar anymore 😂 but, I yes the recipe is amazing!
ı lovee it.. Thank uuuu
I'm gonna try with iceberg lettuce.. I hope it will be good.
People really shdn't use a mandolin without the spikey thing to keep your fingers out the way...although I see she did use it for the carrots
I made 1/2 recipe and it came out delish! Thank you I’ll definitely be making this again.
How is it 1/2 of the recipe?
@@CecilZieme l'm going to do the same eg. instead or half a white cabbage l'm going to use a quarter ans so on. Hope ur having a good day 👍
Thanks for sharing this wonderful coleslaw recipe, I’ve made it a few times now and its so good!
why add sugar? doesnt need sugar
Try dropping the sugar and grating in some dessert apple instead - gives a more natural sweetness flavour.
Oh, I have some apples I need to get rid of. Will try that!
Nice tip, I'll give that a try next time.
Or add some slightly roasted raisins, it will give it slight chewiness and amazing sweetness!
thats a cool idea!
Add some crushed pineapple drained, its very good with it in it.
Your video has just reminded me that I have a brand new mandoline still sitting in its box 15 years after purchasing (never used) -- methinks it's coming out of the box now -- thanks.
You're a keeper !! LOL! I know a couple who didn't know what they have in the garage until they divorced forced to open their wedding present (after 15 years!)
T.O.P. ! ! !
Thanx 4 the idea and recipe 🙂
👍❤👍❤👍
Suggest using the Ronco Slicer
It slices, it dices, it makes julienne coleslaw
Thank you. I was looking for a machine to do all that. Thank you, again.
THANK YOU for brevity and . . . getting to the point while not boring us!
I cooked coleslaw with your recipe today. My husband said it was the best on the table.
Came out really good, thank you 😊
I am very new to your channel and love your no waffle, straight to the point presentation. The recipes are wonderful. Thank you so much. 💚☘️🇮🇪
JUST CABAGE , CARROTS, MAYO OH MY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN DO THIS
I made this just now, homemade coleslaw has always been somewhat of an enigma for me, but your recipe has helped me unravel the mystery. As usual I didn't have all of the right ingredients and I used whole grain mustard instead. It still went very well though. Thank you very much for simplifying it. I'm definitely going to try more of your recipes.
How?! Like is literally cabbage, carrot and mayonnaise
I prefer wholegrain mustard in dishes
Is this kinda sweet?
Nicky is giving you the basic ingredients but if you only have or prefer a different mustard or vinegar that’s fine. I’m sure that, although the ingredients used are the norm for coleslaw, you could use red cabbage or red onion or a combination of red and white ❤
That taste amazing you know my kind of coleslaw
It do?
thanks Simone! i will try it! stay safe all!
@@ralph3875 you too
Close to my recipe. Never used sour cream, will try it! I sometimes add grated apples to it, and less sugar for a sweet bite...kids love it.
I see you mentioned apples it came to me when I was a kid my mom would make apples I think oranges and grapes in some kind of white sauce like maybe miracle whip or something please let me know if anybody knows what I'm talking about
Me too . Sometimes is switch it up and add pineapple or mandarin orange 🍊. Fruity coleslaw is fantastic 💜
I just made this recipe. It is delicious!! Thank you for sharing it!

Love creamy coleslaw so will definately be making this to go with lunches at work. Will use low fat mayo & sour cream instead to keep the calories down. Thanks for this no faffing about video x
I tried this recipe today and it came out delicious. Thanks for sharing.
Best presentation by far!I will get the ingredients today and cannot wait to taste it! Really grateful for sharing this!
Not a fan of coleslaw, but I might make this for my family members who love to eat coleslaw. 😌
I was given a Chinese and red cabbage for nothing. Could I use Chinese and/or red cabbage instead?
I’ve done it with both
@@Solitude11-11 thankyou for your reply
Yes, but soak the red cabbage in water a few times (like you would do rice), and it will get rid of a good bit of the red so it won't bleed into the slaw juices. Then once dried off, use some salt to help draw the water out. Both steps will help the slaw from getting too watery.
@@donna5370 Hello

Looks delish--pineapple is wonderful in coleslaw!
No it's not, it sucks.

Easy and delicious! Thank you 👍😊💞
Approximately how many grams or cups of cabbage? That would really help as there are so many different sizes. Thanks.
It's coleslaw. The exact ratio isn't important, just use your eye and judge it.
I let mine sit in the fridge a couple hours
Thanks a lot.
Will make soon.

I use honey instead of sugar.
Thank God I found your video. I really love this vegetables
Hope you enjoy
I would add halved grapes or canned pineapple chunks
When she dumped all that mayo in it reminded me of a sketch on SNL ruclips.net/video/Mf-bsT5mLYs/видео.html
What if i dont dont add white vinegar and sour cream? Does it still taste the same
Hi kitchen sanctuary 👋 I've just come across your site and so glad I did. I used your coleslaw recipe tonight and but I used wholegrain mustard & lemon juice because I didn't have any sour cream or an alternative! 😋👏👏👏 I've made a batch for my daughters too ~ and saved your recipe. Thank you so much.

Thank you👍😋 I love coleslaw. Cooking 👩🍳 is one of my favorite passion makes me feel good and happy 😊
Instead of sugar I use 15 gram of raisins. I also use Dijon mustard with plain yoghurt. No wine.
I thought that it was verry funny, that You took a 3 minute video to show how to make a five minute coalslaw, verry funny.. I did try the receipe and we no longer buy slaw at the store. Thank You Soooo much.

Thanks for showing me how easy a coleslaw is to make. I love the raw veggies
I shall try this using my fave mayo, which is avacado
Better than mayo
😂😂😂
Looks so delicious and so easy!! Going to make it with my Fried Fish.
Sweet! I always wondered what was missing in my home made coleslaw.
The sugar! ✓✓✓
Thanks for solving my 45 year old mystery. (And frustration)
Happy to help!
Eeewwww. . .sugar NEVER belongs in salad OR dressing. Gives a cloying flavor that goes AGAINST vegetables, but suit yourself.
@@stellarocquie7957 you can add red cabbage give that and nice looks than salty and sugar
Perfect for how I want my cole slaw to taste. Thank you.
ohh you are fabulous girl!!!! thanks to you I'm now the queen of Yorkshire puddings to my rather large family your recipes never fail. :)
That ceramic bowl is beautiful. Coleslaw looks yummy too
i might be a bit late but im making t today with some homemade pizza!
Subbed sour cream for greek yoghurt and doubled the amount and cut back on the mayonnaise to make the dish a little bit more healthy and it came our delicious!
I tried this.
It turned out awesome 👍
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes and prayers ✨

Your new friend!!
Thanks and welcome
Made it today and it was a hit. Thank you for a delicious and super easy recipe.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Where can I get those serving dishes
try Creme fraiche in place of the sour cream plus I would mix the dressing before adding it to the slaw and add some apple
I use mayo and salad dressing as well as Apple cider vinegar.
Add a teaspoon of fresh ginger to that. Also, add some apple or pear leftovers. But do add fresh ginger. You'll never go back.
That sounds like a delicious idea😃
Yum 😋 That sounds great 👍
Can you make it bitter?
This is absolute chicanery
That’s good, thinking roasted sesame seeds too.
I used to make this by the 5 gallon bucket every 3 days at the restaurant I last worked at. We didn't use onion because some customers complained about onions.
My guy tossed it in the bin when he tasted the onions in your coleslaw. He told me I had committed a crime against nature and his mama would never put an onion in coleslaw. Restarted from scratch (thank goodness I still had 1/2 a cabbage) and made it without the onions and added 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. It passed muster... He almost ate the entire bowl himself. No onions, no onions, no onions!
Your feind is an little too uppity.
Its so nice that i didnt have to fast forward, to get to the process. It is excellent. Resonantly tried 5 different recipes. like this one the best. I chopped my cabbage and carrot in food processor. i like the super small chunks.
Thanks for making it look easy. I can do that. Love creamy coleslaw.
Nice and simple delicious 😋 recipe thanks for sharing
I never thought to use grated onion. Nice. Sometimes I use buttermilk instead of the sour cream or part of the sour cream.
Very tasty and so quickly made. Thanks for the recipe and many greetings from Germany
