  • Learn how to make coleslaw two ways! An easy, creamy coleslaw recipe + a vinegar based coleslaw (no mayo coleslaw). Homemade coleslaw is the perfect side dish for summer parties, potlucks and barbecues. My recipe is light, flavorful and has far less sugar than you’ll find in store-bought versions or from KFC.
Coleslaw is a great recipe to make ahead for meal prep and it will last for 3-5 days in the fridge. Cabbage is extremely healthy, so enjoy what I consider to be the best coleslaw recipe!

A ¼ teaspoon of celery salt is absolutely delicious. Sometimes, I cut a garlic clove in half and rub the outside of the mixing bowl with it. The coleslaw has a mild hint of garlic which is not bothersome.

Hi, I love coleslaw & wanted to make my own for the very 1st time! I made the mayo based coleslaw. I didn’t have celery seed so I used 1/4 tspn of celery salt in place of 1/4 tspn of salt. I added 2 stalks of celery-finely chopped because I love celery! This was honestly the best tasting coleslaw I’ve ever eaten & I’ve had a lot! Thank you so much for sharing your recipes! I’ll be making the oil & vinegar based one next!! 😍

Great recipe!! I salted the cabbage first, put in a Callander over a large bowl and let it sit in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Lots of extra moisture seeped out. Then I rinsed the cabbage mixture really well and transferred it to a salad spinner to remove all of the excess moisture from the rinsing. I used your mayo based dressing, exactly as your recipe stated (except I only used 1/8 tsp of salt). Voila!!! A wonderful tastings coleslaw, without the dressing getting soupy. Thank you.

I love cabbage slaw with vanilla yogurt and dried cranberries (craisins). I made shredded zucchini yellow squash and carrot slaw with plain greek yogurt and sliced bing cherries (pitted). Good for people who cannot digest the cabbage. You could also shred iceberg lettuce and serve it with Macintosh or Granny Smith apples that would be great with lemon greek yogurt and poppy seeds. 🙂

I'm from Germany and over here it's different from region to region. There's a traditional dish with cooked cabbage. When adding lemon juice it turns more red (regions with this recipe refer to it as Rotkohl/-kraut = red cabbage). When adding Natron it turns more blue (those regions call it Blaukraut = blue cabbage) 😊

Made the creamy coleslaw and it was delicious. I added some red onion, shredded carrots and diced green pepper. Yummy!

I tried this, but cut the amount of mayo in half, doubled the amount of vinegar & honey. Yumm!

Thank you for posting the vinegar dressing option. I’m not a fan of mayo so i would usually refuse to even watch a recipe that requires mayo.
I love coleslaw with vinegar. And this is an amazing recipe to meal prep for 3 days on my work trips. I’m a flight attendant, so I notice that recipes that contain vinegar usually stay fresher in my lunch cooler. Especially since i have to keep it with ice all the time and sitting there it can change the flavor of foods

Downshiftology thank you Lisa. I’m addicted to your channel. Currently on a layover in San Diego and stayed up watching like 10 of your videos last night.
Your kitchen is BEAUTIFUL !! 😍😍

I actually enjoy both versions. It all depends what meat or main meal I'm serving with it. Great recipes. 😊❤

Seems like a great dish to bring to a party. Simple and delicious. Thank you. I made the one without mayo.

Looks delicious both ways. I'm going to try the vinegar one first. I always make the mayo one. I like it the next day as well. Allows the cabbage to sweat and makes a sweet and tasty juice.
