These tips are probably great if you're just moving in to a new home too!! So many houses with the market being so crazy are going "as is" and the new homeowners need to fix everything!
Looks fantastic. Changing plugs and switches is one thing I believe is underrated. In my home, I altered each one. They are crisp and bright white rather than aged and yellow. If you do that, many people will assume you have new wiring, according to my realtor.
Thank you Ma Ma!! We just arrived in Hawaii yesterday but it was indeed sad leaving the house.. I will try to get an update posted on Saturday about how things are going so far.
As a hvac contractor installation of a ductless mini split central ac system is affordable none invasive and will add a lot of value to your home and make it more desirable
I have watched your videos and they have been very helpful. I have repaired my out side Ac unit. Capacitor went south I tested it and confirmed that it was bad. When I replaced it I found from the factory that the tan wire was on the Comp side and the yellow was on the fan side. I installed new capacitor and it started right up. Now the ignitor in the furnace went out. I will test it with your methods from your video. Its frustrating the furnace is only 5 years old . Thank you I hope your move is as smooth you dream it will be. I hope your channel stays up and running. Awesome job with the house
We put our house up on the market last..... August maybe? Cant remember for sure, but I spent about 8 days preparing it to list. We did hire painters to come in in and refinish the 20 year old honey oak cabinets and repaint the entire interior of the house that dull white color that most new houses come in. Our tile roof had a moss growing all over it, so I got up there and spent an entire day pressure washing it. It looked new again. We polished off an entire row of windows that had water spots all over them from sprinklers. Had a 25 by 10 foot section of the back yard sodded with fresh grass. I replaced a couple of fence posts and fixed a very weak fence. We painted the garage floor.... it looked GREAT! We replaced nook, dining room and bathroom light and sink fixtures. We had about 1200 ft^ of tile professionally cleaned. We did a lot of work but it all paid off. The house went up on the listing sites at 7pm on a Thursday night. BY Sunday we had over 30 people go through the house and had 4 different offers.... one was a full price cash offer and we had a 30 day escrow. We were very pleased that our efforts were rewarded. By the way, we bought the house in 1998 when it was 2 years old. We had been renting it out since 2013, so it was currently a rental when we decided to sell it.
Looks awesome. One thing I think is under rated is changing plugs and switches. I changed all of them in my house. Instead of old and yellow they are bright white and crisp. My realtor said if you do that many people assume you have new wiring
That was a VERY GOOD IDEA!!!!Me and my wife is currently in that process!! We done a lot of things but we could have done a lot more over the years, but hey I'm still excited , we got a lot of catching up to do!!!!!!
Yeah when he said, "no more weeds for 10 years," I couldn't imagine why anyone would spray that next to their front door. Sounds very unhealthy and stays in the soil.
I always LOVE a new episode of "Word of Advice TV!" Thanks again Jay. That house looks AMAZING! Lucky new homeowners when they get it. You guys are wonderful including all your support and family members who seem to really care about you! Thanks again buddy!
Hello there my ol buddy ✌️. I wished I was there to have done that painting that is what I love to do is paint and remodel it's my specialty.. my house is gray with white trim also 👍.. very good video my friend I hope all is well with you and your family..it's very hot here today and for the rest of the week me and Arnold and bigfoot just sitting here watching your video and now little house on the prairie.lol...i hope you have a wonderful blessed day Jay 🙏 you are super awesome guy 👍 buddy 👌...oh yeah I almost forget to tell you Bigfoot is doing pretty good today yesterday wasn't so good but today he is doing pretty good.. good days and bad days just a part of life for dogs and people.. Don't get to hot Jay but sounds like you are done with it now the work on the house..
Hi David!! It would have been great if you were around in Minnesota haha but it's okay, we got it all done! We just came to Hawaii yesterday, I hope to post an update video this Saturday on how the move went. Great to hear that you, Bigfoot, and Arnold are doing good! And the Little House on the Prairie is a wonderful classic!! We enjoy it too. Stay healthy, cool, and in a positive mood!!
@@WordofAdviceTV I'll try to stay in a positive mood ol buddy..it's hard sometimes when things happen out of one's control well I hope you all have a wonderful blessed time there and everything works out good for you and your family. God bless you my friend 🙏
Jay, kitchen looks great after painting. You need to change the outlets and switches with white ones and the covers. It looks like crap the way it is with the new paint.
Just stumbled upon your channel. Great content! I want to be this handy with my first house when I start a family. One thing: I believe the black debris on your AC unit is called sooty mold from the trees above it. Aphids feed on the foliage of trees and their excrement is called “honeydew”, rich in sugars. It falls on objects below and then mold colonizes it, and it looks like soot. Take care.
Place pine needles or eggshells under hostas to keep snails and beetles from getting onto them via the leaves . Have to cover the whole area of each plant so no leaf is near or touching the dirt. The sharpness of pine needles or eggshells deters critters climbing onto plant.
A shame you didn't make all those improvements to your house after you moved in three years ago. At least you would have enjoyed all the loveliness you created. Funny how when dollars are at stake, one is more motivated to make changes rather than for the purpose of sheer enjoyment.
Yes, I can only agree. My wife and I were talking about that too. How it's a shame that we don't do these updates while were are living there. Will try to learn from that with the second house! :)
@@WordofAdviceTV you wouldn't have to do those things on the next house because someone else already did it for you when they were selling it to you. Get it?
I heard someone say, all those years of that house and we only enjoyed the updates for 2 months. It makes me sad”I never forgot that... We enjoyed our updates for years. We had to touch up paint and make a few changes along the way. We lived in our last home for 17 years and 10 years in started making minor changes with resale in mind. We would save $$$. Make changes, doors trim, Windows, carpet snd sanding wood floors. I did add wall paper early on that I loved. I finally gave in, removed it and painted. The white doors and trim we put in really popped. There is only one thing we lived with was an uneven wood trim in only one location going down to the basement. I asked my husband for years what we could do...he wad never sure until the realtor said it should really be fixed. 17 years of looking at it. 2 weeks of beautiful trim... grrrr. The next time I hear...I’m not sure, I am hiring someone to fix it!
That's because when it comes to money.....people would labor for it.....but if you live there and everything is FUNCTIONAL and you have to make a living, ask yourself if you care? America is all about outer appearances......you can look nice but broke and saddled with debts but people would be impressed with you......and that is why MOST Americans have massive CC debts......and very little net worth..
As for home improvement. Living in California is different. The last home we sold in the bay area I totally remodeled it. Turned out the new owner did the same. I could have sold the house for the same amount. Not doing anything to it.
Arkansas different but I lived in California for a year with family and when we looked at houses they also talked about remodeling seemed like everyone was constantly remodeling
I am not sure yet but I may do some service work part time. In the beginning I do not plan to get a full time job as there will be plenty of things that need to be done if we will be looking for and buying a house.
That cottonwood was massive. We left it there on purpose actually :) As evidence on where all the logs that run along the whole side of the yard came from.
You should have replaced all the wall outlets and cover plates with white ones. The off-white or beige ones look old and dirty against the nicely painted walls
You did some nice things to your house except the only thing that really added value was the kitchen appliances. The other things are too cosmetic. But still looks nice.
Disagree with the stainless steel refrig or appliances- #1 because its not 100% stainless steel due to the amount of chronium used by manufactures still allows rust #2 shows every finger print, smudge.

Great makeover Jay! Don’t we all wish we did such while we live rather than before selling?!!! Perhaps you should consider staying.
Indeed!! Too bad most of us only do this before moving. I will try to learn from this with the second house.. In Hawaii :)

8 days WOW!!! I got at least 8 months of work. But who knows it may not take that long
What did you use on the garage floor and what color?
You took a good care of the house. I learn alot with you.
Greetings from Brazil.
Glad to hear that, thank you!!
Greetings from Hawaii :)
Man, pressure washing those cross ties while you had it out would have been great. A little moisture on that will be super click with that moss.
Your house looks very nice 👍 Good job making everything bright like people want these days.
Thank you Mr. Classic! We tried ;)
After you take the weeds out, spread Preen and it will prevent new weeds. Easier to apply and perhaps even cheaper than more roundup.
Great suggestion, thank you!!

Round up works great... So does Agent orange....
Yeah when he said, "no more weeds for 10 years," I couldn't imagine why anyone would spray that next to their front door. Sounds very unhealthy and stays in the soil.
It doesn't last ten years. I have used it and within 6 months weeds grow back.
I like the way he explains
These are great tips! I'd have to say my top one is cleaning the AC unit because it truly makes the house feel newer and fresh.

Great advice for home improvement I learned from you even though I don’t have those skills you have to do what you did to your house or
I would put a new piece of 3/4 pipe insulation on the suction line. Gives the a/c a much cleaner look. 👍
Ah yes, I should have done that too! Thank you for the suggestion!
Pebbles ftw
As a gardener, it kills me how he calls hostas, "hostesses." 😂
Love these ideas!
wow amazingggg!
Power washing should be done on concrete surfaces, such as bricks and walkways.
I have nice siding but it needs to be power washed
Nice Ideas Thanks for the Video👍
You can Pressure wash the wood to get rid of greenish color.
great video and info thanks

replace those yellowing light switch fixtures so cheap big impact

Nice
its fine

It’s more profitable if it’s a small single family home. A starter home a person can’t necessarily afford to remodel.
Maybe you did a poor job remodeling & used cheap material because you were trying to get a quick buck from a house flip 🙃
I like it!

What would yall think in purchasing a home, Popcorn Ceiling or Smooth Ceiling? Any thoughts?
Smooth. Popcorn is for trailer homes in 2020
Smooth ceilings, if I bought a home with popcorn ceiling I would scrap it off and if necessary put a texture..
Smooth no question about that
how about a glass ceiling
Smooth. Otherwise cover it with gips
How much did all this cost vs how much more do you plan to get for your house because of it?
It would be hard to put an exact number on it but we were able to add an estimated 20k to the price of the house simply by doing that. Expenses were around 2k.
