Now if I can only figure out how to draft elbow-3/4 sleeves for this pattern. As an older, much older woman I need sleeves. Just for the future, please remember some of us are no longer young with beautiful smooth firm skin like yours. You are so adorable. Thanks for the neat pattern and sharing the drafting how to.
She does show how to add sleeves to a similar pattern in her "pineapple tee-shirt" tutorial. In it, she mentions you can change it from short to long length merely by taking that longer measurement and extending the pattern. Also remember to measure around your arm at both the widest part of the bicep as well as the part where you want your cuff, for a sleeve that tapers correctly.
It definitely took longer than 15 minutes, in fairness I had a coffee break and a mad moment when I had to go root in the garage because I was sure I’d forgotten to put a tent in the car, lol. But it’s done and I’m wearing it. Now, I’m going camping. Toodleoo
Thank you....and I risked it and made my bouse with my expensive fabric....and it fit!!!! After drafting my pattern I freaked out and had doubts but I'm glad I continued. Thank you.
I love the way you mention various fabric choices in the beginning, and showed examples of how it might affect the overall look! It's amazing how different one pattern can look when sewn of a different fabric. Even just the color/pattern can affect the look, but different weight/drape changes everything!
I enjoy watching you make your patterns with such ease. A couple of my teenage grand daughters sew very simple things making their own patterns. Keep these tutorials going, it’s going to be fun sharing your channel with them! Thank you!
Love this top! I just drafted my pattern as per your tutorial to fit me. I am not a petite person by the way! I constructed it out of a bedsheet of all things and I love it! It fits perfectly. Thank you! I wish I could post a pic for you!

Lovely and easy ,, I am loving this top,, you know what I like about your videos, it is straightforward, , to the point , instructions simple and presented in such a way everyone would feel they can make the project. Thank you for sharing ,, one love from Jamaica.
Thank you, Kristi! I knew you would love it, since you really like that long sleeve peasant top by the fabric store, free pattern. I still read all of the comments, sometimes it is just hard to answer them all. I always appreciate your support and kindness, Kristi!
Lucille - you just gotta do it! You can do it - I believe in you! Just choose one evening, and slowly get started. You will see - it is nothing difficult!
What a fantastic tutorial! I'm definitely going to give this a go, have been wanting to dip my toe into pattern drafting and this looks the perfect project! Thanks so much :)
You are just so inspiring! I was wondering if there’s anyway you could do a video on making a simple cotton sleeveless button down shirt (not tailored)? It can even be a tunic style ( if that’s the right term)top. This blouse you’ve made seems very close except of course for the collar. I’m probably the only one asking this but hopefully it would be something you might consider. thank you in advance my dear sewing friend!
Love this. I am creating my basic dateless bodice from your other video and since I am getting more and more into hand sewing plan to do pin tucks on some and smocking on others. Thank you so much for the excellent video instructions and the inspiration.
I’d really like to know an easy way to make splits in the sides of shirts to make them look nicer when they’re out, not tucked in? I’d like to know how to just make a straight slit, also how to make curved ones, hope that makes sense? If you could do a video on that it would be wonderful please 🙏🏼 I just love your videos, you explain everything so well, thank you ☺️❤️
Been really wanting to make some peasant tops to go with peasant skirts I’ve been making. I think I will do mine with a draw string at the neck age so I can adjusted it as desired. Possibly some full sleeves, also with a draw string.

Thanks for the step by step style of blouses I like very much for me I am a large size they will serve me a lot I understand very little English and I am new to sewing.
This is such a lovely pattern, truly my kind of styling and I can see myself wearing this with a simple midi skirt. I am so enjoying your channel! Sadly, I currently have no sewing machine. I was so overwhelmed by my machine that I sold it years ago along with all the accompanying notions, and here you have arrived making it all look so easy!! Thank you for that! :) Now I am off to look around for a machine......
A machine is a wonderful thing to have, but until you get one may I suggest that this would be a fantastic, easy and fast candidate for hand sewing? With only two side seams to sew, plus finishing, I think any new hand sewer could probably create this top in a matter of a couple hours (besides the normal drafting/cutting time). I am a self-taught hand sewist, and I really love it. You can sew while listening to music, or even take a project in a gallon ziploc bag with you to the park. All you need is a needle and thread, a thimble and some small scissors, and maybe a candle to pull your thread across to condition it so it doesn't tangle. I guarantee you will pick it up quickly if you try. Thousands of years of our ancestors sewing everything they wore by hand can't have all been for nothing!
Marialla THANK YOU so much for your inspiration! I’m just currently working on a small project, sewing reusable muslin tea bags in my attempt to get better at uniform hand stitching (and sadly just stitching straight!!🤦♀️). With every little bag I feel I improve. I am looking forward to making this shirt and I will hand sew it! Thanks again for taking the time to reply!! I hope you have a lovely week!!😊
@@happyone444able I hope to hear from you how it's going when you do sew this shirt! I'm sure it will look wonderful! I started just like you, making small household things. I did a lot of pillowcases out of bed sheets, for my whole family. It was a good way to get the feel of hand sewing. And none of the seams I sewed have ever yet come undone, after ten years or more! Hand sewing is vastly underrated. And a project like this shirt is a good one because it is so loose and gathered, it will totally hide any irregularities in your stitches. I'm sure if you can make a tea bag, you have what it takes to sew this shirt! Are you familiar with all the popular hand-sewists on RUclips lately? Agata, my pleasure! Happy Birthday to her one more time and I am slightly jealous of her Birthday gift, lol :) and yes and yes on the pattern suggestions. I need some clothes for fall - so more of what you mentioned def coming!
This is so good. I watched it multiple times, took notes, drew pictures, made tiny paper patterns. I hope I can remember the steps. I was wondering, approximately how much fabric does this take? I know it depends on our own size, but a general guess perhaps? I think I can make this with a little less than a yard (1 meter) of fabric. Is this about right? I would refold the selvages to the center --making 2 folded edges and cut each on a fold.
Sheryl, hello there! You can do it! :) To answer your question - for me it was less than 1yd, but he's, you are right, does not require a lot of fabric and I folded my fabric just like you described in the comment!
Save the video to your library (in the drop down information) then when you’re ready to do this you can follow Alisa’s instructions and not miss anything. Good luck.
That does look quick. I'm always short of pattern paper but greaseproof paper, parcel brown paper or even newspaper is always easier to come across and work just as well for a pattern.
Don't forget gift wrapping paper! It's great because it's very wide, comes in generous rolls, and often has a grid on the back. Plus they look really cute when folded away into your pattern storage ziplocs!
Thank you for the great and thorough instructions! I wish I was a better sewist so I could jump right in...but I'm not...not yet :). I have a question about bias tape - I couldn't find a tutorial but I think you likely have one...could you point me to that? Also if I was going to make a nightgown - would I just increase the length of sleeves (to 3/4) and the length (to knees)...or would that not work. Thanks so much for your help!
That's a terrific pattern Alisa-thank you!. Such a nice wee top. I'm going to try to make some of your tops for my daughter who has spent the summer nursing Covid patients. Appreciate your enthusiasm and love to share your sewing tips.I am planning to use this draft to make a dress by extending the side seams. does it work ?
Really lovely, I think I could repurpose old shirts to make some of these. Is there an alternative to the little bend at the base of the tear-drop? I've had that on some ready-to-wear and it digs in and irritates me. I then unpicked it but couldn't make it any better (worse in fact).
Love this top! I'm going to try it tomorrow. 🌺 I do have a silly question. How do I cut out the back pattern when it's marked on the same paper as the front pattern? The front is easy, just trace, but back?
For my first attempts I always like to start using secondhand bed sheets. They have a decent drape for this pattern, and you can get a feel for it. For a final garment you might try a medium weight linen, or any softly draping cotton. Rayon might also be nice, but would definitely look more upscale than peasanty.
A bit confused about how the bias tape is seen into the sleeve? And do you have a detailed video of how to make the bias tape. You make everything look so easy
The bias tape is treated like a bias facing around the sleeve with one of the folds of the tape unfolded to sew to the edge of sleeve opening, right sides together. The other folded edge is folded around to the inside of the blouse, pressed, and sewn down along the edge of the fold. It's hard to describe with only words--hope that makes sense.
Hello ladies! You can add more width at the center for duller gathers - absolutely! Just remember, you are already taking your actual bust measurement for this pattern, so the more you take extra at the center front - the wider will be your blouse all together. If you have an old bedsheet - do the front part with 2" at the center front and see how it gathers and If you like it! In my personal opinion - I think gathers look fabulous with fuller bust! I hope this helps!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity The reason I ask is because with a 36" bust you are adding one extra inch of width spread across 18" (front of top only). But if my bust is 44", adding only one inch across 22" won't make gathers, it will just look like messy sewing. It isn't enough width proportionately. This is probably not something you've had to consider personally but fitting a large bust is quite frustrating.
Dear Sewing Friends, what hashtag should we use on IG for the pictures, so that we can all use it and follow it? Let's see your suggestions :)

The other folded edge is folded around to the inside of the blouse, pressed, and sewn down along the edge of the fold. It's hard to describe with only words--hope that makes sense.
Love this. Thank you! BTW… YT won’t let me click the Bell for notifications- keeps giving me an Error Msg. 😢 Can you help? Thanks
For a full bust would you recommend adding more width at center front for fuller gathers?
I was thinking the same thing. I hope she answers you.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you for the quick reply.
Natalie Stanchevski Since it’s on a fold, you are in fact adding 2 inches.
HOw much fabric does this normally take? for a size small?
