    Dear Sewing Friends, in this video I would love to guide you through my process of drafting raglan shirt without starting with a base/pattern block (the usual way of drafting raglan sleeves, or any other sleeve variations). Please remember to make a test garment - I don't always mention this in my videos as I assume you had adapted this best practice. Especially if you're new to sewing or trying out a new design - doing a test garment is a way to reduce stress, experiment and find what works for you!

    Great tutorial! I love the way you thoroughly explain things. But my favorite thing about you is that you link to previous techniques already covered saving time! I'm an impatient person (sorry) and you ate the perfect teacher for someone like me. Thank you so much ❣

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity

      Linda, that is exactly (you're spot on) the direction in which I am heading with all of my tutorials. That's one of the reasons I do more details technique videos, so that I can refer to them and not do it over and over and over again in every single video, as these videos take about 30 hrs to put together, every single thing matters, and this makes it easier and more logical to put together. That way it also promotes certain independence in choosing the seam finish or the type of hem for your own personal project :)

    Thank you for another great instructional video. Am making a jacket (fleece outerwear) and wanted to make a raglan sleeve for it. Had drafted the bodice pieces and found your tutorial very helpful to create the sleeves. I see that you use the armhole curve one would most likely draft for the back to construct both front and back bodice pieces. And appreciated the way to widen at the biceps should they need to be adjusted for ease. And now I can cut out my pattern and get sewing!

    I thought this would be easy 😂 spent a whole day with it. But .5 inch ease was to small for my woven garment, can’t cross my arms in a comfortable way 😅 tension at the back. And the armhole was to high.
    I did add more ease to the sleeves and they turned out good, but maybe to short.
    I even asked myself “do I make a muslin? no take the fabric and sew” i told myself. I should have made a muslin.
    At least I get to practice 🤩

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 года назад

      Well of course you should have done a muslin, especially when you don't draft patterns all the time and not familiar with what goes well with your body.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 года назад

      And most likely it is not the ease that you need to add but you need to look at the width of your back and add to that. If the ease is good in the rest of the garment, but your back is the only spot that is tight - then it is your back width that needs adjustment.

      @@betted3792 Maybe, but not sure :) What you can do, so that way you don't need to wait for a tutorial, just take this tutorial and adapt it - 1) do a square neck 2) extend it to be tunic length (so easy to do!) 3)make sleeves the way you want it following the visuals at the ends of this video and find a tutorial for whatever closure you want :) and ta-da!

    I am a plus size woman with loads of sewing experience but no experience making my own patterns. The difference between my shoulders and my bust leaves a huge armhole. Yet my arm measurement is large as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Or is your method simply unsuitable for plus sizes?

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 года назад

      Make a bodice block with darts that fits you well (use that as a future base for all pattern drafts so you don't have to second guess yourself) and use that to transform it into a raglan sleeve top - I have both tutorials on the channel. That way you will accommodate your bust by making a dart, which decreases the front armhole. I don't know your body or your measurements - so I can't suggest, but I had subscribers of all sizes make this top without a problem. If not sure - cut a bedsheet first - analyze and then make adjustments.

      I very much appreciate your reply and the detailed instructions in your videos. All the steps make sense and build on each other. I am having trouble going from a 63'' bust to 17.5'' shoulder measurement. (On the pattern piece that would be 16'' and 8.75'' .)

    I need help please. I wanted to make a woven men crop top with long sleeves. I wanted a sleeve that can be lift up freely without pulling the shirt up? I followed your other video and made a sleeve, but I don't like how the arm is very restricted. Thankyou

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  2 года назад +1

      Watch the video about the sleeves again. The height of the cap will determine the amount of mobility of the sleeve. The shorter the cap height - the less shirt will lift up with arms, but more drag lines you will have the sleeve. The video you are referring to is for a standard high cap sleeve which provides less mobility. Again, everything is explained in that video

    I making a woven top which I have done before with the same pattern that I have, one piece sleeve and body all the same, but I am trying to make this one a bit longer and wider to match the skirt that I just made of the same fabric. I'm not quite sure how to do this, but I'm trying. Also I need a bit of help. I just ordered a serger, The Singer Perfect Fit, it had a lot of good reviews and the price was right almost free and brand new right from the company. What I need to know is treads. I have one off white serger thread and need to get 3 more, but is there other colors that I should also get or will these be OK until I get used to using a serger? It is coming pre treaded with four colors so I can get used to following the dots. Red, Green, Yellow and Blue I think. I'm so excited for it to arrive this Tues or Wed. The fabric that I made the skirt with and now a matching top ravels so bad even zig zagging all of the edges was a challange.

      Annie, hi! 1) to make the top longer or wider just follow any of my tutorials, add width to the side seams and add length just like we did in this tutorial 2) for the serger thread - get the colors that you use the most in your garment sewing. For example, I sew a lot with navy, white, beige and grey - so I have 4 cones of each. Other colors, I usually have just one cone, or similar color cones, like I might have bring pink and baby pink, so If I am sewing pink I can mix the two pinks, and I mix it with white or beige thread I have, that way I don't need to buy al 4 cones of one pink color.

      Amy, hello there, and thank you for joining! Please watch this Membership trailer (it is the same one you saw when you signed for the Membership) till the very end (very important) and it will show you how to access you perks and multiple ways to do so - ruclips.net/video/uP9qSamkVkk/видео.html
      Also, I am not sure if you are using patterns and Instruction Sheets as the same term, but I have never once said that there are garment patterns as a part of the Memberships, as the whole channel is based on drafting your own and that is what the Membership offers - Instruction sheets with steps for the garments that have been drafted on the channel up until July 2022. I just wanted to make sure that you are not expecting PDF patterns for garments, there are however templates for smaller projects like coasters, towel wrap and some others. It is all outlined in the trailer you see that opens up right when you're about to sign up. Thank you and happy sewing :)

      Jo, hello there! So sorry about that, all you need to do is click on the upper right corner of your RUclips app, then select "purchases and memberships" and there you can pause, cancel and renew, a long some other functions. Also, as of this moment - you do not have a Membership badge next to your RUclips name, so I wonder if you had a Membership on a different RUclips/Google account? Perhaps that's the reason why the payment is still going? Also... whatever is your payment option, let's say PayPal - you can also go into your PayPal account and cancel the payment there. Just trying to help you.

      @@joduggan3750 Jo, hello there! You don't need any app, or anything else, you can cancel your Membership within 5 seconds. Just please read this reply in full: 1) I think you have 2 accounts that you have mixed up - this one - joduggan3750 and joduggan3957. The 3750 account does not have Membership, as you can tell there is no Membership badge next to your name, SO it is more that possible that you are trying to cancel the Membership on the account that does not have any. You need to log into your account that has the Membership and look in the upper right corner of the screen, in RUclips, there is a little circle, usually with your profile picture or with the first letter of your name, then click on it, select "Purchases and Memberships" and select "deactivate". 2) I cannot contact Google or RUclips on your behalf because I do not have any of your information and I should not, it is for security purposes, that's how RUclips is set-up. I don't control any of your payments or which account you have Membership on and anything payment related, therefore I can't cancel it on your behalf either. It is all user (you) controlled. 3) Since you have emailed me yesterday (I also don't have email information for the same security reasons) I have emailed you step-by-step how to cancel your Membership with pictures! But, you HAVE TO log into the correct account. It should be very straight forward and I am so sorry it has turned into a trouble for you. 4) Your other account has been in the Membership only for 2 months, so I would strongly encourage you to take a look what exactly is the google charge for. Perhaps you have another account? Or another Membership? I can't look it up for you, but this information should be available in your google profile.
