I joined the membership so I could get the tutorial for the blouse in the above video but can not find it. Is it there or am I having a computer moment? I also joined because I love watching you make things. You make me feel like, well, if you can do it, so can I. :)
@@terri2589 Terri, this tutorial came out about a year before the membership opened, so I don't have instruction sheets for it- however, it is the same base I use for most of my tops -so you can use dartless bodice block tutorial for it. This is an old video but today I took the plunge and made this top. I made several mistakes, had to redo some stuff, and had to do some things differently because of those mistakes, but I am wearing it right now! I feel so incredibly confident and can’t wait to make another one. I can actually wear this out of the house! Thank you for showing how we can make clothes that fit OUR bodies.
Hi so when you Made your top upon her discussion in the video she did not mention her way of getting the number to bust and waist she did mention dividing the shoulder line in to 2 which gave her an answer of number 10 being her measurement came out to be 20 so do you divide the bust and waist aswell in to 2?
@@caramelrose7187 If I’m understanding the question correctly, then no - if you measure all the way around your waist and bust then you’ll divide that measurement by 4 to get the length of those lines on the pattern - since the pattern essentially represents 1/4 of the whole garment. Since the shoulder measurement is taken only across the back (and not all the way around the shoulders), you only divide that by 2 to get the length of the shoulder line.
Look at u go!!! I've made purses and bags but I've never made a shirt, and me being the heaviest I've ever been, it makes me pretty scared lol, but I'm excited for u for real
Wonderful, that is great to hear! Thank you for sharing your success! I think you will love all the other tutorials on my channel - they are fairly easy and... I learned to talk slower, lol :)
My Grandmother used to sew clothes from patterns she made herself, for her children. I remember her telling me her process and that my Aunt, after going on to college would send pages from magazines and ask her to sew her a dress(es). This was in the 20s, 30s and 40s, I don't how easy or difficult that would have been for her. I just know how awesome I thought my Grandma was for being able to do that. So I really appreciate videos like this, that helps others learn to do the same thing. My Grandma had no one to teach her these things. She learned by trial and error. So again, a great big THANK YOU!!😊
Just made this and it turned out so well!! Thank you!! To those that aren’t sure about how to do the sleeves and hem- For sleeves, fold under 1/4”, press fold again and press then topstich. Basically same for bottom hem except fold under more if you have allowed more seam allowance. For the neck: I made bias tape by cutting 1.5” strips, sewed the bias tape to neckline right sides together, fold back over incasing the rough edge and then topstich along the very edge of neckline from right side. Bias tape has natural give it it and shapes around curves nicely! Thanks again and hope my tips help someone out there! Next step for me is to figure out how to do the slit in front 😊
I found how to do a placket really easy here on you tube. Was done in a series of folds laid on top of a rectangle it was so cool. Not sure if I can close this message out to add it to this message
I found a queen size sheet set for 12 dollars on clearance. This video is what I was waiting for, so I cut part of it up and made the pattern with your help and it was AMAZING! Thank you so very much, I gave myself permission to mess it up and it was very enjoyable sewing! And I learned a lot about drafting a simple top, thanks for that as well! This video is a gem!
Pamela - THANK YOU for a comment, You cannot even imagine how I love when people actually try it out and do it, and yes, even mess it up, because that's how we learn. Making mistakes is a part of the process! Since the video was published I had so many people send pictures of their final garments and I absolutely appreciate that and comments like these! Keep it up, more videos for simple drafting are coming and I hope you will enjoy them as well!
Sheets are cotton ...breathable fabric lots of prints and plains team this top for a new look under business jackets ... New print/ colour each day ....they'll never know ...They'll never know ....💞💞💞
You wanted to know what holds me back. To be brutally honest, I'm a curvy woman but all my curves seem to be in the wrong places and fitting seems to be impossible. For example, I love this shirt you make in this video but I know that when I make it, it won't fit me because I have a bulge right under the bust that makes everything look funny. I don't know how to work around it. I don't "just have a spare tire", I have two of them. I have another one below the waist. I usually wear a tunic length which is easy enough but I find that even with that, making things to fit all this odd shapes just doesn't work. I'd love to figure out how to fit around all the rounds!
I honestly can't thank you enough for all the pattern making tips and direction you give in your videos. I am self-taught and I mean no RUclips, just a pattern and by trial and error making changes to that pattern. THANK GOD for your channel!!!!
I use an old sheet or a curtain panel something you can throw out without thinking you are being wasteful. I love the idea of using gift paper to draw. Pattern on. Great video.
I just wanted to say I love your style of teaching. You're easy to follow and you are really making it possible for me to make clothes for myself. And so far everything looks so fun and doable. Thank You Alisa
I would love more videos on finishing hems, necklines and armholes.....this is my biggest struggle! I'm getting better but often get stuck, have to seam rip, they seem to always turn out wonky especially the neckline and sleeve hem.
Amen! The curved neckline is thee worst‼️ EVERY sewing video that I have watched (and I’ve watched PLENTY) they neverrrRrr show how to sew the curved neckline. They’ll either complete the garment and leave the neckline raw and continue with, “Subscribe for more videos.” 🤪🤪🤪. Or they will edit to a completed neckline ‼️ and it all leaves me like (Maybe, justttTtT maybe 🤔 they are struggling too) 🤷🏽♀️. Help on aisle 3 please! 😉🙌🏽
For the neckline cut 4cm wide piece of fabrics in a right angle (45)saw it face to face, on the t shirt ,make small cuts around ,iron. It, fold it leaving 1,5 cm for the “collar “ and saw it
Hi, I just wanted to thank you for these tutorials. Using this particular one I’ve made myself several linen tops and just extended it for a dress for myself and my mom one too. They fit so perfectly!
Alica your explanations on the pattern making are nice and simple.... I think that most people dread pattern making because it looks so complicated.. but I guess it's just practice. Loving ur tutorials... They help me loads. Thank you.
Alisa, I love that you showed how you drafted the rounded hem. I will try this shirt. I would have liked to see how you finished the neck line. Beautiful top!
Your mini-series is the best beginner friendly introduction to pattern drafting that I have found. (It's partly due to your enthusiasm and bright smile.) I am ready to take the plunge and attempt my first self-drafted garment. What holds me back? Ending up with something that doesn't fit. I guess that can happen with a professional pattern so its just a matter of confidence in my own skills. Anyway, thank you for your videos and making the world a happier place.
Jane, hello there! Thank you so much for a kind comment! To answer your question about the fit of the garment, and maybe a few tips here as well - 1) start with simple things (like this top), it will build your confidence and you ill start naturally understanding what goes where fit wise 2) your best tool is already in front of you - and that's your body, so measure, measure and measure. If not sure - measure. For example for this top, you have to make sure that your shoulder length of the final garment is couple of inches longer than hip/bust 1/2 measurement - that's because those couple of inches will account for the ease of the garment to make sure it fits and you can actually get into it 3) make a muslin. Now I can draft and cut right into the fabric, but at first - always a muslin, that will take away the fear of making mistakes and disappointment of not working out. Once you have your muslin, let's say need shorter sleeves - mark it with the sharpie in front of the mirror and then transfer it onto the pattern. Again, that will give you an understanding of what really fits you and what kind of fit/silhouette you want to achieve! 4) reuse the same pattern time and time again - it will build up the confidence and you will get better every time you make a variation of the same basic thing! I hope this helps! Whew.... a long one!
This is the first top I've made that actually looks like a decent top. I started out by ironing all the seams, and sewed them together before sewing the sides together. I love it. Thank you for this tutorial. I'm looking forward to more!
What holds me back? Falling in love with a gorgeous fabric. Solution: practise first on an old sheet. Or a forgotten scarf from the back of a cupboard.
Thank you so much, can't wait to try this, I do lots of sewing and have just made a few sewing videos with free patterns, I'm a newbie on RUclips but love everything creative, I like you style
I have only just recently discovered your channel, I've found it so inspiring. I personally have difficulty in getting patterns to actually fit me properly so a few videos with tips on how to adjust patterns would be so helpful, thank you.
I've never done my own patterns yet but I have made shirts using other shirts as guides. Never measured anything, just "eyed" measurements and all came out well. Thanks for the video. I'll try making my size pattern
I think fear of it not doing right stops me. However, I like how you are starting is with simple projects. Then that might stop me because I want something really cute, but then you tell us options for details and small changes, and that helps a lot. I like seeing variations as well, because I don't feel naturally creative.
I have not thought of how it was constructed and put them together for construction of pattern and what I wanted to make this video helped. I needed insight!
Love this! I stopped your video and ordered 2 yards of linen blend and then finished watching. I’m totally going to make this. Thanks for such a simple and beautiful too!
Again a very clear tutorial! I watch your channel a lot and learn so many things and patterns! For your question: I ruined the fabric a view time: I messure. Draw cut out and assemble the garment. Then it just doesn't fit as I thought it would. I make adjustments and ... Grrr. I undo the the adjustments or put some other ones in. And at the end I spend a whole day ending up looking for a purpose for the scraps I have left. But to say: that also happens with pdf patterns I buy . I have this strange body. LOL
Some people's bodies are more asymmetrical than others, and large busts, long torso, bigger bellies etc can affect the pattern. It's well worth making a customised dress form and creating a toile, ie version in poplin first which you can cut and add in pieces to create a new pattern
I would love to see a video using this top to show us different necklines and arm finishes and adding those. This was a great video. Very easy to understand!
You are such a great teacher! I want to learn to sew. I am pretty sure I can do what you are teaching. I will try it out and will let you know. THANK YOU!!!
I have always love simple summer patterns with the grown on sleeve, but never found one that, as a large busted girl, that fit me no matter how I adjusted (fba or otherwise.) Well, after watching your video yesterday, Alisa, I got out my drafting supplies and some cotton lawn I had in my stash and....voila! I ended up with a great summer top! I opted for the slit in the neckline but used a coordinating self-made bias tape. Uh oh...you might have started something here....I'm now on my third version!!!!
I find the math a struggle and that I will get it wrong. However I have watched a few of your videos about drafting and am going to give drafting a try. Something I have wanted to do for a long time as I have a long body so cloths from the shop don't always look that good on me. Thank you for your videos they are really good and inspiring. :)
I hear you, how about this, see if it helps - write down the math and maybe do a little schematic drawing on a piece of paper to see if you got it right?
I always used to fold a favourite top in half and tracecaround it, but this video has changed that to a degree. Esp if I'm making something for someone else. Thanks so much for sharing this. Karen xo
Thank you so much for showing the pattern drafting from scratch video!! I love it! You asked what makes me hesitant about pattern drafting. Well, I just don't have the experience or the know-how, but watching videos like this one will definitely help me! I am curious in how you finished the neckline on this one though. It turned out nice looks great on you!!
If there is no opening either in the front or the back of this pattern, be sure that the head can go through.. Nice pattern and so easy to make. Thanks for this tutorial.
I would love for you to share some of the additional ideas for this too (the split on the front with the reinforced X, split side seams on sides and the cute cuff you added on the sides
I used to sew with patterns and what made me confident that I could create my own patterns is when I purchased a mannequin because I can see the look and fit as I go. A game changer! Thanks for these videos. You are a great teacher. I would like to know more about the slit!
I love this tutorial! I have been looking in the stores for a pattern just like this (woven tee-shirt-type) for such a long time. The patterns are $19 to $20, and I usually only want to make 1 or 2 pieces. Add the price of the fabric, and sewing becomes an expensive hobby! I know the answer is drafting my own patterns, and I know I will want to learn variations on the basic pattern. What has been holding me back is the actual drafting. Let's just say geometry was a nightmare in high school. I also think some creators go way too fast, like they can do it so everyone else should be able to keep up. I'd like to know which tools are essential and which are optional. I'd also like easy patterns like this so I can feel a sense of accomplishment when I succeed. As basic as it is, I would like to know how to measure and draft both an A-line skirt and a basic rectangle skirt. I keep getting the length and width measurements mixed up. It seems every tutorial I have watched just says mark and cut but doesn't say how the fabric should be positioned before the cut and etc. Sorry this is so long! Thanks again for a great tutorial. I am going to give it a try! I would also like to know how to draft facings for the neckline and arms. I don't especially like using bias tape.
Laura, hi! My channel has plenty of help on simple pattern drafting, especially the skirts you mentioned and more simple tops step by step. Please don't feel discouraged! I know how it feels, I went a bit too fast in this tutorial, so please check out the other ones. Click on my channel name and you will find a whole selection.
I'm so glad that you used linen! I'm in love with linen and bought lots! This is exactly what I need to in order to draft my own basic top. What I would like to have is a step by step instructions via blog that accompany your how to videos. I know I can pause, rewind, play, it's just nice to have it written down too. Thank you!!
Yes, the first step is so scary! NOT- You are the first person to make complete sense to me. I really enjoy the way you teach. On my way in to make this top. I have so many Yards of quilting cotton- I can use this as my first top. Thank you- I was in a sewing block and you and your channel have unblocked the apathy. Keep them comming!
I am fine with drafting my own patterns, thank you for this video. My mother taught me to sew as a child and when I started figure skating as an adult we had a family friend who is a professional costume designer for a ballet company who taught me some tricks to working with the fabrics I would need to know to make my own skating costumes. Designed most of my own skating costumes by altering a basic pattern to the design I wanted. Saved a lot of money that way, custom competition skating dresses are hundreds to thousands of dollars apiece. Made some for some other people too and made some money that way.
Thank you! The instructions were great! It was my first time doing a pattern draft and doing bias binding. I made a toile that will become a nightgown but now I have a pattern I can use for many more tops! I am now perusing your modification videos and will try different necklines and for some materials will need darts. So excited!
Glad it was helpful and so happy to see you made a toile, this simple pattern can be modified in all sorts of blouses and tops - a ton of tutorials on my channel! Happy sewing and have fun! :)
I'm apprehensive about cutting the fabric and making a mistake. How do I know the pattern will fit? Then I have to throw it out and cant get that fabric again. Love your videos!!
Lisa, until you are super sure of your skills - keep old bedsheets and use them to pack the first quick "try" garment, if something isn't right or needs to be adjusted - adjust the pattern and cut from the good fabric! Big name designers and tailors do it all the time!
Lisa, I used to feel just like you do and then I realized that there are a lot of differently sized people around me if something I sew is nicely made but does not fit me to well there is bound to be someone who will fit into it. Now people who have received simple items from me frequently give me fabric etc when they come across it because they know I will do something with it.
I would love to successfully draft my own patterns. I have done expensive courses both online and in class but have yet to be successful. So much measuring and adjustments; so complicated. The process you have demonstrated in this video may help me - so straight forward. Fingers crossed I will be successful this time.
If you're still taking comments as requested in the vid... I'm rather large in the bust and keep getting the impression that I can't get away from dart-making and complicated measurements. So that's the major issue I have with attempting to draft my own patterns. Heh. Thanks for your tutorials, they have been pretty inspiring.
You certainly can, you just have to understand you will have some wrinkles under the arm pointing towards bust. And if without darts, your top is too short in front, you may need to add a little additional length to the front to account for the amount your bust will take up. Try it with a cheap fabric. You'll be able to see what I"m talking about. The dart just makes the back and front come out even. And not so protruding at the bottom as a larger bust may cause.
I love this simple way you taught how to make this top. I have some linen that I want to use to make this top. What is holding me back to use a draft, I have never done this before. I rely on a printed pattern to make alterations and adjustments. I make my changes, try on the tissue, and usually I begin to see what it will look like. I realize I may make a mistake, that’s called learning. I think I will use a piece of fabric to practice on so I can gain some confidence. Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful.
Denise - that's exactly right! The couple of inches that I was talking about, that your shoulder length should be bigger than your largest measurement (hips or bust) will account for that ease so that you don't need darts. If you have a very large difference between hips and bust - to make it more fitted - take each true measurement, add 2", put in on a pattern and when you draw a line from the armpit to the bottom - curve it in to create a more fitted silhouette.
I have just recently discovered your RUclips channel and am loving it. I'm new to sewing and find commercial patterns just don't fit the way I would like my clothes to fit. I'm definitely going to try your pattern drafting techniques. Thank you so much for your videos.
I used to be afraid that I would screw up and waste the fabric if I attempted to draft my own pattern. Then I was cutting out expensive fabric from an expensive trouser pattern when it hit me: because I'm tall and long-waisted, I was making so many adjustments to the pattern that it was easier to line up a pair of trousers that fit me well on top of that pattern. Deciding to simply draw up patterns on computer paper for pants and various lengths of shorts instead of wasting money on ill-fitting patterns was was from there. Now, I do take the time to make a muslin mock up first when I'm making something dramatically different for the first time snd/or I dig through my old patterns and refer to them when drafting a new pattern. So, long answer made short to your question about what held me back: the irrational fear that my own stupidity/incompetence would lead to wasted time and money (after all, huge companies like Vogue and Simplicity must employ "better" sewists than me!).
After 45 years of sewing and no longer being as slim as I was I have decided give it a try to make a pattern like this that is easy or draft from my own clothes. I was going to go the muslin route too until I saw a video that suggested old sheets. I plan to thrift store buy old sheets.
I m so thrilled watching you make easy pattern. I. Never grow tired of this pattern. I have made shirt, maxi dress an two the knee dresses. I m self taught. So when I find a good thing I keep it. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE TEACHINGS👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏💕
Well, I did it! I drafted the pattern....got distracted for 4 hours by that "simple split" LOL you have on your shirt but can now make a placket! I learned to use a rolled hem foot and lo and behold...I am wearing my new shirt! Thank you for making this easy!
I must say when you started the draughting of the pattern I switched off, it looked too complicated. Then I watched your placket front top and understood it,then came back to this one again. Much easier second time round. More help regarding neck openings wound be great. Many thanks
I'm a beginner and I was able to follow this quite well. Next time I will make it looser, but loved how easy it was. I stopped and started the video a few time's do it step by step. Thank you so much for sharing the pattern.
answering your question: what holds me back is my body! Our family is plagued by "the tube" body, more commonly known as a rectangle body. Almost all of the girls have these HUGE waists and no hips or butt. When I was young and slim, my measurements were just about all the same (bust, waist, hips). Now old and fat and wanting to wear more than t-shirts and sweats, I have tried to make my own clothes but they are a joke and makes me feel horrible about my REAL body. I would like more videos on how to fit my REAL body and what style different body shapes should target to feel their best. For example, like in this video and the hem where you have it a tad longer and curved in the back. The top is adorable on your body, but how will it fit on my "tube" body, lol. If you gave advice (using this video as an example), "Now if you are a "tube" or "pear" shape, you might want to make the hem line longer (or shorter). Or, the shape of the side straighter (or curvier), or the neckline wider if you're a pear..." etc.. Am I making any sense? lol. I just want to make my own clothes but my 40, 39, 39 body makes it a horrifying endeavor every time because buying a pattern and trying to adjust it is a ridiculous task. PS - I LOVE this video and that I found you and will be attempting this pattern today! So, thank you for making it....very clear and concise.
I love your way of sewing! I would love for you to show in more detail how you did your variation of the collar. I am a very beginner sewer and I need someone to show everything they did. Thank you.
I think the thing that causes me anxiety about drafting my own patterns is that my measurements never really look like the examples. I am 6’ tall (23.5” nape to tailbone) with a 39.5” bust, 37” wast and a 44” high hip measurements. This makes my patterns look a little bit different.
It's OK to be different. Only the 'hourglass' pure shape of a figure will be like the cute girl on the video. Draw your pattern by your own measurements, cut it out, and hold it up against you. You'll see, it's the right pattern for you! There is no pattern that will fit you perfectly out of the package, as they're made to fit an 'average' of bust, waist, hip, height measures...and very few are truly average. We're usually above average women! :) If you hold it up, you can modify before cutting any fabric. If I'm unsure, I usually will make a muslin (super cheap fabric that really doesn't matter and will be either knit for knit top or a woven for a woven top). It's helpful, and you can adjust a portion if needed. Try it! You can do it!
?what holds me back¿ is fear of starting. i like and Need to watch your video's as many times as i can so the knowledge of what you are saying imbeds in my brain. but it's that 1st cut that will send shivers down my spine. PS. i really do appreciate all the hard work and the visuals you put into every one of your videos. if I'm going to do this, it will be you that gets me there. Thank you. x
I've never sewn any garments before. At my level of experience, drafting my own pattern would be daunting unless I can follow along with someone experienced like in this video.
Thank you so much for this video! This was the first blouse I successfully made...and it's so cute! What always scared me about sewing was being afraid of how the garment would look on me because I'm going through some health issues right now that have resulted in some weight gain. But this pattern gave me so much confidence. Thank you!
Thank you I have really learnt a lot and would love to see a tutorial on a scoop neck and fitted sleeves. You are very easy to listen to and watch, thanks a mil.
Sharron, hmmm.... that's why I am showing some very simple things that could be made in an hour with minimal difficulties, and money for fabric - you can thrift it, or shop using discounts. I never spend much on my fabric - unless it is some suiting or a particular fabric.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I followed your instructions and made two tops this week. I did some special additions to one and everyone loves it. I like to send a photo but I don't know how.
Hi. I have only had about 2 weeks sewing training (and that was only learning the sewing machine) when I was in the 9th grade. I am now almost 63 years old. I guess I'm just so afraid of messing up a perfectly good piece of material. Cheap fabric doesn't matter. The point is it's usable fabric. That is why I've not tried to make my own patterns. I'm not sure what you could do that you haven't already. I'm just a chicken. 🐔 I love your videos. You are so good at showing all the points..like the measurements in this video. Thanks for all your helpful videos. God bless!
Ooh! I've been seeing for a little while but just haven't any great confidence without my teacher's help. My husband's bought me all the bells n whistles that go with sewing so it's not for want. I love sewing. It brings me tremendous joy. I always feel like a beginner at it and I'm told I'm twixt Average and Advanced...It's difficult to believe!🥺
Love this video! I have a full bust...and a short torso. So my body doesn't match conventional patterns. Learning to draft my own patterns is really helpful.

@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you for the fast reply. At least now I know it isn't there and can stop looking.
Thanks
Look at u go!!! I've made purses and bags but I've never made a shirt, and me being the heaviest I've ever been, it makes me pretty scared lol, but I'm excited for u for real
Wow, good for you. I will have to watch this video 10 times before I start it.

I did it! I did it! I’m so excited - it fits me perfectly! I’m going to make a dozen of this top, Thank you SO much for teaching me how to do this! ❣️

@@dianabliss3628 She has some great kimono and wrap type shirts that could be great for you!
@@dianabliss3628 I have the same problem. ☺️
I honestly can't thank you enough for all the pattern making tips and direction you give in your videos. I am self-taught and I mean no RUclips, just a pattern and by trial and error making changes to that pattern. THANK GOD for your channel!!!!
I have never made a pattern and I have been sewing for over 50 years.. I am going to try.
Wow! Same as my Mum. I wish I can sew without patterns as well.
Maybe a video with tips on how to fix common sewing errors - how to rip seams, get even hem lines, choose the right thread...?
Ikr? The neckline and amrholes are the hardest to make.
For the neckline cut 4cm wide piece of fabrics in a right angle (45)saw it face to face, on the t shirt ,make small cuts around ,iron. It, fold it leaving 1,5 cm for the “collar “ and saw it
Wow this is very easy to understand and follow.THANK YOU.
Cindy, here's the tutorial for the neckline - ruclips.net/video/cOH1EObHZx8/видео.html
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thanks Alisa, you're a gem.
Love this pattern. I love drafting patterns. For a self-taught person, drafting the pattern makes me confident.
I love the simple slit neckline you added on this. Any chance you have a how-to for that? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, can't wait to try this, I do lots of sewing and have just made a few sewing videos with free patterns, I'm a newbie on RUclips but love everything creative, I like you style
U have grown so much I've watched you from the beginning. Love your channel you're wonderful.
I just love the simplicity of this pattern. I’m envisioning a rayon summer dress 😍 I could use some more quick sewing projects these days 😁
@@suzykeene9298thanks for the advice! Will try that.
I would love to see a video using this top to show us different necklines and arm finishes and adding those. This was a great video. Very easy to understand!

Thank you so much! Just found you this am so haven’t had a chance to explore yet! 💕
No worries☺️ juts thought to let you know :) have fun watching and k hope you get to sew something fun soon! :)
I would love to know how you did the slit in this top please. Fab pattern and you made it look so easy, thanks 😀
I agree ☝🏽
Me too

Yes please! What Debbie wrote 👆🏼
I loved the top ( I'm going to do it) and the way you talk as well , I'm not a native english speaker and its very clear for me understand you.
Hi Alisa. Great video as always! Could you please do a tutorial on how you did this slit in the front neckline? It looks very neat!!!
Definitely. This is always being dkipped out. Why?
You are such a great teacher! I want to learn to sew. I am pretty sure I can do what you are teaching. I will try it out and will let you know. THANK YOU!!!
Could you show how you did the placket (slit) in the front of this shirt?
Also, more tutorials on drafting skirts, slacks and dresses would be terrific. You are a good teacher!
you ooze confidence and it is contagious. thank you
I always used to fold a favourite top in half and tracecaround it, but this video has changed that to a degree. Esp if I'm making something for someone else. Thanks so much for sharing this. Karen xo
I would like to learn the split neckline.
Made a few shirts and love the simplicity of your pattern... easy to modify and still get great results. Thank you for sharing.
I sit and watch all your videos so I can build up confident to do the drafting, hopefully I will do it. 😊
If there is no opening either in the front or the back of this pattern, be sure that the head can go through.. Nice pattern and so easy to make. Thanks for this tutorial.
Thanks for being so inspiring! I think I can make this top.
I would love for you to share some of the additional ideas for this too (the split on the front with the reinforced X, split side seams on sides and the cute cuff you added on the sides

I am a long time sewist, but have never mastered fitting garments. Your instructions here are wonderful and I look forward to trying this top. Thanks
You made this look so easy, I'm going to have a go myself x
I used to sew with patterns and what made me confident that I could create my own patterns is when I purchased a mannequin because I can see the look and fit as I go. A game changer! Thanks for these videos. You are a great teacher. I would like to know more about the slit!
Hi can you show how you did the neckline, hems and armholes, thank you
Yes I'd like that too. Thanks

Alisa, I appreciate guys like you who make these videos. Go, guy Alisa, go!
Thank you!!
Oh, yes I love linen too. 👍🧵
Rosemary, so happy to hear that you're getting out of your sewing block - how's it going so far?
Thank you so much for this video. By following your clear directions, I was able to sew a top that I am proud to wear.
on your question- fear of ruining the fabric kind of hold me back but from this video am on it now, thanks a lot
How would you make the sleeves longer?
I can’t wait to try this because I’m built more like a man and have a hard time getting patterns to fit me right
Love the idea if using Christmas wrap for tracing off patterns. I have so many old rolls of it.
I'm going to try this! One question: how does this work without darts? Is it just the amount of added ease?
Denise - that's exactly right! The couple of inches that I was talking about, that your shoulder length should be bigger than your largest measurement (hips or bust) will account for that ease so that you don't need darts. If you have a very large difference between hips and bust - to make it more fitted - take each true measurement, add 2", put in on a pattern and when you draw a line from the armpit to the bottom - curve it in to create a more fitted silhouette.
Thank you for your quick response. I'm going for it!❤️😊
I have just recently discovered your RUclips channel and am loving it. I'm new to sewing and find commercial patterns just don't fit the way I would like my clothes to fit. I'm definitely going to try your pattern drafting techniques. Thank you so much for your videos.
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! One question; what are you using for pattern paper?
@@lindaerman3436 She is using gift wrapping paper that has a grid on the back. She explained that in an earlier video.
Alisa its beautiful to see how you remove the fear of making your own pattern, thank you!
I actually did it and it fits!! Thank you so much ❤️
I must say when you started the draughting of the pattern I switched off, it looked too complicated. Then I watched your placket front top and understood it,then came back to this one again. Much easier second time round. More help regarding neck openings wound be great. Many thanks
Your instructions and visuals are awesome. Thank you for your help on my pattern drafting journey.🙏.❤
If you hold it up, you can modify before cutting any fabric.
Absolutely a beginner, what holds me back is necklines. Have so much trouble getting it right. Love your videos.
My fear is the neck line i'm afraid of cutting neckline to high or too low making a pattern.
i can’t work with a neckline i’m hopeless biased binding gives me nightmares
Beautiful. Helpful. Easy to follow … it takes away the hesitancy to redraft a bodice block.
I having a problem finding my confidence..
Thank you so much for this video! This was the first blouse I successfully made...and it's so cute! What always scared me about sewing was being afraid of how the garment would look on me because I'm going through some health issues right now that have resulted in some weight gain. But this pattern gave me so much confidence. Thank you!
My anxiety omens from making a mistake, a waste of fabric, is a big thing.
Thank you I have really learnt a lot and would love to see a tutorial on a scoop neck and fitted sleeves. You are very easy to listen to and watch, thanks a mil.
Well I got lost half the way. You said EASY and I my 3 measurements that's about ten lol
You made beautiful pieces. It would be nice for you to show us the details, like how you did the opening at the neckline.
This is the tutorial that I followed - ruclips.net/video/cOH1EObHZx8/видео.html
I think its just the thought of doing it and wasting the money for fabric and time :-)
Sharron, hmmm.... that's why I am showing some very simple things that could be made in an hour with minimal difficulties, and money for fabric - you can thrift it, or shop using discounts. I never spend much on my fabric - unless it is some suiting or a particular fabric.
Use an old sheet, or cheap muslin as a pattern to make the first one. Make any adjustments, then cut out your nice material and sew away.
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I followed your instructions and made two tops this week. I did some special additions to one and everyone loves it. I like to send a photo but I don't know how.
I tried this and turned out perfect. Thanks for the step by step.
Can you make a video on how to properly finish necklines? Using bias tape, round v etc? Also, patterns for toddlers? Thanks so much!
God bless!
I would love to know how to do the slit neckline as well. Love this video!
I us your cardigan pattern and make one it came out great thank for your encouragement God blessings upon you...
Love this video! I have a full bust...and a short torso. So my body doesn't match conventional patterns. Learning to draft my own patterns is really helpful.
