Thoughtful Creativity - CRAFT, SEW, DIY hi there, i made this top last night, oh boy the fit is amazing, i love it.....i made it with a non-stretch material, for a very loose fit.....thank you so much, your tutorials are wonderful and easy
I've been sewing since I was 16. I am now 71 and still sewing. Wish I had the advantage of RUclips tutorials growing up. Love your presentations! Clear directions, easy to follow visuals and a delightful voice. Thank you and best wishes.
Thank you so much for all you do. I've never sewn clothing because my sewing machine hates me, but I'm going to try your pattern diys and see how far I get. If I may make a request, would you please show us how to draft basic loose-fitting pants? It's my favourite style to wear but they're so expensive too buy and they never got anyway because I'm tall. I'd really appreciate it if you could show us this. Thanks again for making things seem doable!
I love how simple you make this pattern, I will be trying it soon, I'm having issues fitting things and having a simple project will help o get some sewing mojo going.
Very true, Myra! We all need those projects in-between! And this is great for summer time too - something easy to wear, and if you make it in white - could be a great basic!
Some students might find it easiest to add the rib knit edging to the neckline before closing up the second shoulder seam, while the garment is open and flat. Same for the arm cuffs, they might be added before sewing the side seams together. This is purely a matter of preference, just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who might like to try this method. I like it because my brain thinks better in straight line edges than in circles, sometimes.
The older I get (retired now) the less those patterns fit so nice and easy. Got bad sewing mojo over trying to adjust patterns only to deal with fit issues. Going to try this to see if I can actually overcome my fear of pattern adjustments. Your tops are perfect for our Florida weather and look relatively easy to do. Wish me luck!
Hello find this video very inspiring. Just wondering about the fit for me. I have issues with most patterns since they are designed for a B or C bra cup, whilst I wear double E would I need to do anything differently to what you show please?
Hello it's really help full tnx a lot. Am taking fashion designing class just starting 3 weeks before so pls wat can I do to be good with sewing and to understand making patterns easily pls
Reina, the pattern piece is for both, the front and the back, the only difference is the neckline. You can then trave it on the new piece of paper and make a separate pattern for back and front - totally up to you. I like to save space and for these kind of patterns the front and back are identical (except for the neckline). If you'd only adjust the back of the pattern with these modifications - your pattern pieces would never match up. Let me know if this explains and answers your question!
Please please include the fabric type ur using and type of presser foot. Im a beginner sewer, Ans until i get a master curve presser foot, im SEVERLY limited
Hi! I have the same serger you have. Would be possible to share tips to serge on knit fabrics? Or at least, when you serge, can you show the settings? Thanks
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Wow, I sent a message and honestly I didn't expect your response so quick.... Excellent... thanks for letting me know and I will check your play list. God Bless you!!!
Katrina, hi! Soooo....for the woven fabric you do need to add some ease, otherwise you won't be able to get into it. So what you can do is, take the 1 hour basic top and just adjust the sleeves, like I did for the t-shirt. That will basically give you a kimono sleeve top!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Perfect! Thank you! I've been stocking up on linen and linen blends to make some nice summer shirts, and now I feel like I can actually do it!
I need a cover for my halter dresses or spaghetti straps that is short sleeve and it covers my huge loose arms. can you please provide me a pattern that is simple with stretchy material. I have basic knowledge of sewing but don't know how to do the pattern measurements. thank you
Hid, Delilah! Not sure exactly what you mean by "extra fabric line", are you referring to the center back seam? If so then you can draft patterns with and without it, it just really depends on a few factors: 1) shaping of the pattern, like in a blazer, you might want to do a center back seam for a fitted silhouette 2) when you fabric does not allow to cut your back pattern piece on the fold 3) any other reason that is particular to a specific garment/fabric/construction/fit
I love watching your videos. I am interested in making a sweat shirt . I am looking for a pattern, do you know of any. Do appreciate any info. Sincere thanks
You don't need a stretch presser foot to be able to sew knits on the sewing machine, you can use walking foot which is going to help you, but I have not used it ever and sew knits with sewing machine just fine.
You lost me when you added the neck and sleeve parts. If it is stretched while sewing, wouldn’t it be scrunched up once it was done? How do you know how much to stretch it? Could these parts be added on beforehand while flat, so we don’t have to sew in a circle? Thank you!
Let's start by focusing on - what exactly does not come out? patterns, stitches, sewing itself? Once you know where is the problem - you will be bale to solve it!
Well I can stitch ok I just always seem to mess up on the neckline mostly I always seem to make it too big to fix and then I end up cutting the whole thing too small a lot of times I just can’t seem to get decent fabric
Hi Alisa...I drafted the basic pattern and this one this afternoon...it was great practice and I'm sure I shall use them but like all seamstresses, I have a to-do list as long as your arm!!! But THANK YOU 💐. I thought you might like to take a look at this link.... dkhub-legacy-static-pages.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/us1/dressmaking/patterns/index.html#dresses I have the book (in fact I have 2!), but if you understand the basic order of construction, I think most people could work this out...all these patterns are downloadable for free...woohoo! There are some good basics like an A-line skirt, shell top, shift dress...and lots more...enjoy xx
Dear Sewing Friends, what will you be making this weekend? Let me know!

Easy and clear to follow.
Michelle, thank you, that's the goal - to make it easy to follow :)

Hi ewa, does this work?? If so leave a comment.
I love this video! Very cute top! Doing this is a great "pallette cleanser" between major projects too!
