    Great tutorial. I love how you take us from the very beginning to the very end. I love how you show your work at the machine. I hate when some creaters omit that part out of the video. They tell you what they'll do and come back to the table after it's been sewn. The work at the machine is an absolute fundamental piece of visual that all beginners should and need to see in order to grow their knowledge. However, just a little bit of feedback here as well... although I am a beginner myself but know this, others may not. You didn't talk the viewers through how to lay the pattern onto the fabric (selvedge vs. crosswise grain). It may also be helpful for beginners to know to always launder the fabric before starting any project to account for shrinkage.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  Год назад +1

      Hi there! Thank you so much for all the feedback! I appreciate it! And you're right...I always forget to talk about prewashing fabric, and grainline. I'll try to remember that for future videos! Thanks for watching :) - Dana

    Idk why on Earth they don't teach this skill in schools. In Home Economics. They should start when kids, especially girls, are around 8 or 9 (as it does require some patience)and continue to advance up until graduation. Like make a tank top, a T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, a simple skirt, a simple dress, scarves, pant, etc. In this country there are so many women who don't know how to sew and it's so rewarding once someone gets proficient and fast. And once we are grown up, it's much harder due to having to work and raise kids especially for single moms who have to work and it's so sad. I have always wanted to sew. Thank you for sharing this beginning How-To. So helpful 😊

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  Год назад

      Technically I should recommend a "ball needle" to you, which is best because it rolls off the knitted fibers. BUT....to be honest, I just sew with a standard needle on my knits because I've never had a problem and I hate changing my needle! haha. So there's the honest answer :) You can learn more about all that, and sewing with knits in my other video here, How to Sew with Knit Fabrics: ruclips.net/video/kYI9AG7pORc/видео.html

    • @MADEEveryday

      I believe I used a zigzag in that part also...but you could probably use a straight stitch here as well, since you are sewing it back and forth a few times. Less likely that the stitch will break

    You are a wonderful instructor. Where did you purchase your fabric?

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  Год назад

      Thank you Robin! The fabric is one of my own designs, manufactured by Art Gallery Fabrics. I'm not sure if you can still find this exact strawberry print online, but I know you can find my cat fabric on Amazon: amzn.to/3PHyZSe Also, so an online search for "Dana Willard fabric" and you'll see other shops pop up. Thanks for watching! - Dana

    The bias strips don't need to be cut on a diagonal?

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  Год назад +1

      In this case you don't need to, because you're using a knit fabric, so it will stretch as needed around the armholes and neckline. Yay!

      Hahah. Yes! I shot a whole batch of videos recently, so there are more come! yay! And that's really funny that you asked about my pen. haha. It's just a cheap ballpoint pen we got from our orthodontist and I can't believe I used it in the video...must have been a last minute thing where I needed a pen and grabbed that. But it's wonky shaped haha. I wondered if anyone would notice it! You did! :) Thanks for making me laugh about that Tia. - Dana

    Could we do this with a cotton type material so that we could attach it to a dress? :)

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  2 месяца назад

      That works as long as the neckline/head opening is large enough to get over your head. Woven cotton does not stretch (while this knit fabric does stretch) so you'll need to keep that in mind. Cut the neckline larger, or add a slit or other closure in the back of your shirt to acomodate the head.

    Someone may have asked this or maybe it was said in the video, but how much material will be needed to do a medium tank top? Thank you.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey there! You need about 1 yard of fabric to make a tank top, depending on size. Most knits are about 55-60" wide, so you get a lot of fabric per yard! Hope that helps. I usually put this info in the video description notes if you need to find it in the future. Have fun sewing! - Dana

      @@MADEEveryday thank you. I figured you had this info somewhere but I wasn’t sure where. I will look in the description in the future. Thank you for graciously answering my question. I have been wanting to make a tank top for a long time and your instructions are so easy to follow. I can’t wait to make it. I just subscribed!!
