Genius ! You took something very complicated and made it easy-Peasy lemon-squeezy! No math or measuring! Fabulous! Can’t wait to buy some knits. Thank you 🙏🏼!
Great tutorial. I love how you take us from the very beginning to the very end. I love how you show your work at the machine. I hate when some creaters omit that part out of the video. They tell you what they'll do and come back to the table after it's been sewn. The work at the machine is an absolute fundamental piece of visual that all beginners should and need to see in order to grow their knowledge. However, just a little bit of feedback here as well... although I am a beginner myself but know this, others may not. You didn't talk the viewers through how to lay the pattern onto the fabric (selvedge vs. crosswise grain). It may also be helpful for beginners to know to always launder the fabric before starting any project to account for shrinkage.
Hi there! Thank you so much for all the feedback! I appreciate it! And you're right...I always forget to talk about prewashing fabric, and grainline. I'll try to remember that for future videos! Thanks for watching :) - Dana
I just HAVE to say. I love your videos, just found you and am so so so happy that there is someone showing step by step videos for sewing that I can understand. I am making matching circle skirts for my nieces and now definitely a tank top for myself. Thank you so much for doing your videos!!!❤️❤️❤️
I need to make a tank top to attached to a skirt (that used to be a halter dress/I cut up!) to make it a dress again! I purposely searched in youtube for help with making a tank top for dresses and this video popped up. Not at the top. I had to scroll quite a bit to find it but I am so glad I did find it. This is exactly what i was looking for. Thanks!
You inspire me so much and really help me to be a better seamstress! I am so thankful for your funny light hearted attitude and MASTER skills. I really do wanna be like you when I grow up lol! I just set up a sewing room for me and my 3 daughters. You are on the ipad constantly as we learn to sew!
So glad to see your happy face back on YT. I can't sew any type of clothing, but I still watch your clothing videos because you make me feel as if someday I'll be able too. But that's a ways in the future. I hope you and your family have blessed holidays. 🙏🏻🩷🙏🏻
I’ve always loved your how-to videos and I’ve used many of them in the past. Just recently I went back to your “envelope” pillow case and little boys shorts videos. I’ve used the little girls skirt pattern too with the elastic waist. I also like the “how to make a pillow case with cording” video. You’re so creative and talented and I love that I can always search for your past videos as well as enjoy your present videos. Thank you!
I really want to make some clothes for myself, I have patterns & material but I’m a little nervous. After looking at this video I’m going to give it a go. Thank you for speaking layman’s language I appreciate it. So happy I found your videos, keep em coming 👍🤩🥰🥰.
You've totally got this! Honestly....I've learned so much about clothing construction by just jumping in and deconstructing my store-bought clothing to figure out how the pieces go together, etc. You can do it! And if you mess up, you can start over :) haha. Good luck Elizabeth! - Dana
I absolutely love your videos! I just finished the stripped quilt for my great granddaughter arriving in October and it came out beautiful. I hope it becomes an heirloom piece after I am long gone. Thank you for the excellent directions.
Thank you Angie! Aww I love that you made a quilt for yoyr great granddaughter! That is so cool. I'm sure it will be treasured for a long time :) Thanks for watching - Dana
Idk why on Earth they don't teach this skill in schools. In Home Economics. They should start when kids, especially girls, are around 8 or 9 (as it does require some patience)and continue to advance up until graduation. Like make a tank top, a T-shirt, long sleeve shirt, a simple skirt, a simple dress, scarves, pant, etc. In this country there are so many women who don't know how to sew and it's so rewarding once someone gets proficient and fast. And once we are grown up, it's much harder due to having to work and raise kids especially for single moms who have to work and it's so sad. I have always wanted to sew. Thank you for sharing this beginning How-To. So helpful 😊
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. I have been wanting to sew some sleeveless tops and now I think I can do it without even having to buy a pattern. I love being able to make my own designs/versions of clothing, bags, etc. I just recently found you on RUclips and have loved all of your videos that I have seen. Great info and you have such a fun style!!
Oh good! Yay! Yes, it's so fun to breakdown the process and feel like you can do it! You've totally got this :) Have fun making tank tops! And thanks for watching! - Dana
Thanks for sharing, I’ve been procrastinating, making a sundress for myself, my plan was using one of my existing dresses as a pattern so now you have motivated me to get going. 👍❤️😊
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this awesome and amazing tank top. I really really love ❤️ the end results and it didn’t take long at all. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Wow, you're so motivational and funny! I could always sew pillows and curtains, but am now doing some simple clothes - this was so informative, definitely making soon!
Yay. Dana is back. I’ve missed you. Now, you aren’t going to forget my Christmas stocking are you? And if you could do it in tartan (or plaid as you Americans call it) you’d make my Scottish husband incredibly happy. 🧵
Great job. I may just have to give it a try. Not a fan of stretch. I ran across my notes I wrote down for making the simple apron you did a video on about 4 years ago. I made 26 of those for Christmas ( I made a note of it).

Thanks! The green top is from Target! Many have asked about the sleeves. Maybe I should do a video on how to make sleeves like that :) Thanks for watching! - Dana

But it's wonky shaped haha. I wondered if anyone would notice it! You did! :) Thanks for making me laugh about that Tia. - Dana
Also I made this tank yesterday and I love it even with the bumps on the arm holes and bottom hem. I’m wearing it at work today. Thanks for being a great teacher!!
@@stephaniem6200 Oh I'm so happy! You made it and you're wearing it! yay!! As for the bumps, not sure exactly what you mean....are you pulling the binding too tight so it's puckering up as you sew? I would tug a little lighter next time. Also give the armholes a good press with your iron. That always helps me out! Good job Stephanie!! - Dana
Ah ha! I must have been pulling. Jersey still freaks me out and I tend to pull it. But now I’ve watched your jersey knit video and learned so much! Thank you for the response. Very helpful 😁
I believe I used a zigzag in that part also...but you could probably use a straight stitch here as well, since you are sewing it back and forth a few times. Less likely that the stitch will break

Hey there! You need about 1 yard of fabric to make a tank top, depending on size. Most knits are about 55-60" wide, so you get a lot of fabric per yard! Hope that helps. I usually put this info in the video description notes if you need to find it in the future. Have fun sewing! - Dana

The bias strips don't need to be cut on a diagonal?
In this case you don't need to, because you're using a knit fabric, so it will stretch as needed around the armholes and neckline. Yay!

Hi Dana, I have heard that you can sew with a straight stitch if I am using a strech thread like Eloflex strech thread. Is that correct?
I’ve done it. Yes! Best to practice a bit first because you may need to adjust your tension. 😊
Can we do it with a two way stretch?
Yes totally! Make sure the stretch is going horizontal across the chest.
