There is a mistake on the Valhalla slide - The Legion 7i with 140W RTX 4070 should be 110 fps at 1080p and 81 fps at 1440p. I think this laptop is too expensive, it should be priced at $1500 at most. However there are cheaper options such as the 13620H model at $1399 which makes more sense

The black friday deals are coming up and I saw this laptop compared to acer helios predator i9 4070. I'm not very knowledgeable about this and I couldn't find a satisfactory answer anywhere.
I'm concerned will the 105w maximum power on msi not be as good as 140w acer? And will the difference be big?
The difference will be 10-15% in favor of the 140w 4070.
Get a 2023 legion slim 5 or 7 with a 4060
Can the fan noise be quieter if i lower a game's settings?
If you lower settings it makes the CPU harder so the CPU temperature will go up. GPU temperature should drop a little.
Also, I see when you play a game, the CPU only consume less than 20W, pretty low compared to other, which reflect poor cooling performance, Some laptop can consume 60W+ CPU power and full power graphics card as a temp just a little higher. I have the same laptop but it came with 16gb of ram cost 1400 £ here in the UK on sale i think , i just upgraded the ram a 16g 5600mhz stick only costs about 50 £ so for less than 1500 total i got a pretty good laptop which im happy with and will upgrade the ram from 24 gigs to 32 soon. Overall im fairly impressed the 4070 is a decent 8gb video card its not an rtx 4080 or a 4090 but its latest gen and more than enough to run all the games i wanted and to be able to play some VR which is what i wanted it for i know the 4070 is only 105 watt i read somewhere for gaming that compared to a 140 watt version the difference is pretty minute and the card performs about the same but with last gen cards it was much more of a factor and you saw a performance increase if they were running at a higher wattage theres speculation online as to why im not entirely sure......And the I9 has like 20 cores which is going to be more than enough for a few years.The fans on extreme performance are something else though lol it sounds like a plane taking off but if your just browsing the web or watching videos its pretty much silent.. one downside the battery isnt great which is to be expected unplugged it just drains too quickly but i think you can upgrade the battery which will probably be something i look into doing in the near future.

Thanks, glad you liked my video 👍. Will your daughter need the portability of the laptop? If not then the desktop will be much more future proof. Of course you need a monitor too. The mobile 4070 does not perform like the desktop 4070. The desktop 4070 performs like a laptop 4080. The laptop 4070 only has 8GB of VRAM which can end up being limiting as time goes by. You can also upgrade the desktop with a new video card later on.
If she wants to play away from home or wants a laptop to do work on when she is away from her desk then the laptop will be fine, but from what I understand Microsoft flight simulator loves more VRAM and with the laptop you may need to reduce some quality settings.

Like other comments have mentioned, this is not really a good value for the price. 144Hz FHD with a 4070 should not cost anywhere near this much when this is supposed to be one of MSI's budget lines, and when much better deals are available elsewhere. That said, I liked the video anyway to see if that helps with the RUclips algorithm. I did watch yesterday's video too, and am surprised it didn't get more views. Your channel deserves far more subscribers and views.
Thanks for giving it a like despite Chris's conclusion. I agree it is too expensive. The 13900H model is too expensive, better off with one of the lower CPU skus with same GPU. Yeah, I thought yesterday's video would have done better. It was different to what other people are doing. Suggests to me that I should just do cookie cutter stuff..
@@OWNORDISOWN Yeah. For this asking price, I'm pretty sure I could easily find a 13900HX with comparable or better specs in a better chassis with a QHD screen. That said, I'd personally rather go for the AMD 7945HX, but it's a shame there haven't been many options so far, especially non-Asus ones.
As for the RUclips algorithm, I guess it's just finicky. I thought yesterday's video was interesting, even though I'm not really a gamer myself. I'd never seen anyone else try to compare older drivers with newer ones.

I bought this laptop while back, I never play games on extreme or highest settings since I ain't taking screens hots all day. Idk why people are crying about the screen. Screen is pretty good. I did buy mine for 1199.99 I love this laptop it's strong and efficient.
I agree about the screen not being so bad. On first boot and playing I thought it was fine and only realised it was bad when I read the reviews. I guess if you have laptops side by side it may be obvious but on its own its fine for me?

@OWNORDISOWN I'm on the fence about the 4070 105w. Tried warzone (I've never played warzone before), and on extreme with DLSS on performance, it was about 80fps from memory, but drawing less than 70 Watts.
I have a 4090 pc, so nothing was going to be close, but I don't know if I've wasted my money when it doesn't seem to perform like a 4070 laptop benchmarks I've seen. Think tomorrow I'll run shadow of tomb raider bench mark and see

@aweebitunorthodox3214 I personally don't like high resolution on smaller monitors, even 17". Just seems a waste for hardly any visual difference on small display. I'd personally go for this katana, only 105w 4070 but performance is same (jarroldtech did video on this). I benchmarked to confirm. I was annoyed about this throttling a little at first, but almost all gaming laptops do. I've limited cpu turbo to 95w, still does 4.1ghz, no noticeable difference in benchmarks or gameplay, doesn't go over 85c most of the time now
@aweebitunorthodox3214 now the refresh rate sounds interesting if your doing competitive gaming on low settings, but honestly I'm doubtful, 144hz is what I've got on my 3070ti pc and 120hz on my 4090 in the office. But that is personal preference! And for the better cpu, if its Intel better means more heat, my other comment has pointed out almost every laptop throttles. I've had a few thick ones like the Asus rog g703gx, the msi and alienware thick ones before, they all throttle until you either limit software or change paste to decent stuff, in my experience anyway

There's a i7 12700h + 140w rtx 4070 asus tuf F15 for $1000. Many rtx 4070 laptops are below $1500.
I would disagree with the conclusion. Even the budget $970 to $1050 acer nitro 5 with the 3070ti offers a QHD 165hz 100% srgb panel, so MSI should've given at least a 1080p OLED option.
$1800 for a ''rtx 4070'' laptop that doesn't even beat the last gen 3070ti is not a great value proposition. This should be $1000 to $1200 at most since the 4070 is more akin to a 4060ti.
And at $2000 you start to see rtx 4080 laptops around that price which would blow this ''budget'' MSI laptop out the water.
I had exactly the same thoughts. In what universe is this even an 'OK' deal? This is, at best, a 1400 machine. I still wouldn't buy it, but 1800 is insane. This is a hard pass IMO.
I agree, it is expensive for what it is, especially with the poor screen. I would rather have the Legion 7i Pro for $1950

@@georgidimitrov4220 mine stay between 50c to 75 with fan off @ 144fps setting. And with fan on it normally run at 40-45c n sometimes hit 55.

Turn on game mode from Msi centre or set best performance from power management. If GTA still crash it’s from the server. Check if your cpu get to 5000 ghz + if not it’s cpu issue
Thank you very much for the video HOWEVER I have to say something... This laptop for that price is damn bad... There are other much better deal like Nitro 5 as Siyzerix said below. Besides if it was Legion 5i Pro like my laptop which has superior quality (chassis, screen, etc.) then I would somehow understand but this MSI Katana 15 is supposedly meant for budget oriented and... they would need to price it down to like $1300 to $1400 (maybe less depending on what they sacrificed to make such laptop). I'm really sad they treat laptop world like that...
I agree it is bad value but you have to compare apples to apples. This laptop has a 13900H, the Nitro 5 was with a 12th gen. This machine is also available with a 12th gen and is under $1300.
Newegg has the MSI pulse 15 with the 13900H and 4070 and that just got reduced from $1900 to $1700.
why buy a 4070 laptop gpu, when you can buy a 4060 for a lot less and it performs almost as well.....

I went with a 4080. After tons of research, it really IMHO, is the sweet spot as long as you can afford the upgrade. I did update the RAM in my Alienware M18 from the 4800mHz to 5600mHz now that the most recent bios updates allow the faster speed memory. So far I am VERY impressed with how the system performs in ultra everything. I've so far played Diablo 4, Hogwarts, Dying Light 2, and BG3 without ANY issues. Yes, the fans do get loud, but with decent speakers or headphones, it's a moot issue.
