Great to see the younger generation appreciating Leo Sayer, he's a legend in the UK and still touring at the age of 76!! AND his voice is STILL amazing!!
Leo Sayer is British, and he had several hits here. He is a great entertainer, and his voice is very flexible and he does a lot of R &B and "blue-eyed soul."
Steve Gadd and Jeff Porcaro on drums, Larry Carlton and Ray Parker Jr. on Guitars with Chuck Rainey on Bass. They recorded Leo in the morning and then Steely Dan in the afternoon.
Leo had a lot of great songs back in the day. He was all over the radio! He once did a live set on the BBC dressed as a Pagliacci clown that was wonderful. Real performance art stuff. Look that one up sometime, Britt, I think you'll enjoy it. Thanks for sharing this one.
'Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance)' was a breakout hit for him back in the day, a journeyman folky story song. Then he did lesser known great songs like, 'How Beautiful You Are', which would have fit in any Toto set. Great entertainer.
The most underrated singer in history. He has always been awesome. He has been a class act from the beginning of his career. His talent speaks for itself.
Give a listen to this charming English/Aussie singer's lively first stateside hit "Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance" (#9 in 1974) and his lovely hit ballad "When I Need You" (#1 in 1977).
Oh, Britt, love it! Can't even tell you how many times after a hockey game we'd stick around for general session to skate with girls during "couples skate" with lights out and disco ball. This song was a radio regular. Gave a minute to skate her into the stands before lights on! Carbon dating myself, but great song and memories. Britt you are the most fun musical reactions ever!!
Beth here... I'm 64 years old and this was 1 of my favorite Saturday morning cleaning songs. Throw a bunch of records on the stereo and crank it up and clean 😂
I believe that what you thought was a Xylophone is actually a Fender Rhodes piano. The Rhodes was an electronic keyboard that sounds much like a Vibraphone. A Xylophone has wooden keys and is pitched an octave higher than a piano keyboard. Thanks for reacting to this great song.
I met Leo at a formula 1 race once and he was the most nicest, humblest people I ever met. He was so chatty to the point where I had to leave him😂top man
Leo also performed this tune on The Muppet Show. A second song on that episode featured Leo up a tree in a forest - When I Need You, I just close my eyes ....
Now... listen ---- so many of you say you were 'supposed to have been' alive in the 70's. Well, let me tell you; this cat was on every radio in America, all day n night, every day n night with this song right here. Just unstoppable for a 'Radio Play' Hit. I do wish you could'a been there, Britt. So just do the next best thing --- close your eyes, turn it up and start groovin' (once you've moved it over onto your play list). Thanks for puttin' this one up.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Sayer was a street performer at one point in his musical journey dressing as a clown or a mime. Take a closer look at his body movements and you will notice those influences. Blessings🙏!
Leo had a hit in 77 with a song called thunder in my heart which was remixed and released in 06 by meck now called thunder in my heart again which brought Leo back in the charts.
Leo is amazing. He has had a lot of number ones check out = More than I can say (the first song I heard from him), When I need you, long tall glasses, Thunder in my heart, Moonlighting and Orchard Road (My personal favourites) amongst others. He moved here to Australia in 2005 and 2009 became a Citizen. He appeared in a couple of TV shows and even appeared with the Wiggles. We love him down here.
6:19 "You Mean To Tell Me That He's Saying 'I Wanna Dance My Life Away' Instead Of 'Dance The Night Away'?" Initially, he was singing "Dance The Night Away," but then he changed it up to "Dance My Life Away," towards the end of the song
So Brit, go get you some bell bottom jeans, silk shirt and platform shoes and a disco ball. Turn the lights down low after your kiddies are asleep. Get your hubby and then turn on “When I Need You” by Leo Sayer. THE school dance slow song anthem (actually, probably tied for first place with “Always and Forever” by Heatwave) of the late 70’s. I think Leo will surprise you after seeing this one.
Even though this was never the genre of music I liked, I saw a Leo Sayer concert when this song was popular, and his performance and the show were TERRIFIC.
You were right about the line "wanna dance the night away" RIGHT UP TO the last line of the song ("And if you let me stay Gonna dance my life away") and THAT'S when the line switches to "wanna dance my life away." So it's BOTH, at different points in the song... By the way- "Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance)" is another YUGE hit. Check it out!
'Won't let the show go on' - his first 'breaker', just a phenomenal songwriter and performer! The song is about the fact he wrote numerous hits prior to his own success and (he felt) got ripped off.
You really have to check out, (believe it or not), Leo Sayer and "The Show Must Go On" on the "MUPPET THEATER". It's really, really good!! It's Leo Sayer singing and a Muppet blue's artist looking guy playing a banjo with "Animal" on drums. I am 71 years old and I just came across it and I know you'll get a kick out of it!!
Ok, Britt. Leo Sayer had a hit early in his career called LONG TALL GLASSES. And then this song and the next one HOW MUCH LOVE? which happens to be my favorite. Play the long version if you decide to react to it. These songs were popular during the disco era. He is from England by the way. The show is Top of the Pops.
Only Leo Sayer has told this story. The few hours before part is very unlikely. Serious Elvis fans know exactly who Elvis was with and what he was doing for his last 24 hours. He was never alone thru that whole time until he went into the bathroom to read where he passed away not much after. I doubt Sayer and it’s very unlikely. Elvis may have liked the song or had some thoughts of doing it but to call him like he says. I doubt it. Elvis usually had others take care of that kind of stuff.
Growing up, I'd heard this many times on the radio and such, but I'd never actually listened to it. Before I'd really listened to it, I'd assumed it was the Jackson 5. I know better now. As others have said, When I Need You and Long Tall Glasses are great listens.
You should have had the full experience. I was watching "The Midnight Special" live TV show, in 1974, when he was introduced. He came out, dressed like a clown, makeup and all, and sang "The Show Must Go On". I was the only one awake and I was setting there, looking around, thinking, WTF? It was like a train wreck, you just couldn't look away.
He came out about the same time as Nick gilder.. With the song "Hot child in the City" Nicks voice was also different that you would expect.. lot of creativity going on in the late seventies
An English guy, pretty popular for a while. You're right he was quirky, almost eccentric. But he did have quite a few hits back in the day. 'When I Need You' was a very popular slow dance tune.
“When I Need You” was a chart topper for Leo, and its a super nice love song.
Give it a shot - it's a great song. Just close your eyes!
Great song!! The video was filmed in Brighton.. many day trips down there as a kid..
Yes - my fav Leo sayer song.
Was a cool singer to listen to .
@@valwhelan3533 me too!!

I loved listening to Leo, my favorite song of his was "When I Need Love". Thanks for the reaction.

Wow, I had no idea. A stellar group of musicians!
Yup... Just warming up for Aja as per the Rick Beato interview.
Heard Leo this week repeating the same story on radio

I saw him live about 10yrs ago and he was still awesome. Got my pic taken with him😊
One of the most underrated vocalists of all time. His Endless Flight album is amazing !!!
Leo was a great songwriter. Roger Dahltrey of The Who had Leo write several songs for his "solo" album.
The man has such range in his voice.
"Long Tall Glasses" is one of his classics.
And you gotta see the video!!!
Great song 💯💯
My favorite!
'Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance)' was a breakout hit for him back in the day, a journeyman folky story song.

Great entertainer.
One of the best falsettos ever.
The most underrated singer in history. He has always been awesome. He has been a class act from the beginning of his career. His talent speaks for itself.
This disco themed song hit Number 1 for Leo Sayer in 1976. Two years prior he had another hit song with 'Long Tall Glasses'. And no PDC for Leo? 😆
Give a listen to this charming English/Aussie singer's lively first stateside hit "Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance" (#9 in 1974) and his lovely hit ballad "When I Need You" (#1 in 1977).
Charm, that's a great adjective to describe Leo Britt! He's the total package in entertainment with his vocal talent and stage presence.

One of the catchiest songs ever.

Another tune I played when I first started DJing in the late 70s at parties and danced 🔥🕺
This was great to see your reaction! 😅 “When I Need You” is my favorite song by him!
this was a feel good song. My brother used to sing to this as soon as he awoke in the morning

i have recommended many songs on patreon 2 have been played and you loved them both
You'll like his other hits, "When I Need You", and "More Than I Can Say".
More than I can say is my favorite.
"More than i can say" is another good one
He was saying both dance the night away then later it’s life away
That song takes me back!
this was one of his big hits back in the day,
Omg, “squirrel!” I say that all the time when I go off on a tangent.
His song “the show must go on” really shows his genius writing abilities.
Check out the video with him in the mime outfit singing "The show must go on".
Leo also performed this tune on The Muppet Show. A second song on that episode featured Leo up a tree in a forest - When I Need You, I just close my eyes ....

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best double take ever!
Loved your reaction to Leo Sayer!! LOL!
Long Tall Glasses is a fun song of his that was a minor hit!
If I remember correctly, Mr. Sayer was a street performer at one point in his musical journey dressing as a clown or a mime. Take a closer look at his body movements and you will notice those influences. Blessings🙏!

Long Tall Glasses is a must Britt
WHEN I NEED LOVE, try that song from Leo Sayer. It's a "Grinder" for the PDC!
lol I was gonna say im surprised she didnt mention it 😆
I’ll check it out!

Memorable song for sure!
The Show Must Go On is a whole different voice from Leo Sayer that will blow your mind. He's an absolute gem ✌️

Saw Leo Sayer live in the 80s great singer...😮
I knew you would love this one😅
glad you checked this one out. He has a really fun song called Long Tall Glasses your audience will like
Britt you should have your own sitcom
Love your videos
You are adorable. I grew up with this music. Great stuff.
Thank you so much!

Awesome, great song, growing ulp. Your feet can't stop
The lyric changed the last time through. It was dance the night away until the last chorus. 😎😉🌹
I been singing "I want to dance the night away" for 40 years lol.
Pure disco sound
Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance) is another fun song!
Even though this was never the genre of music I liked, I saw a Leo Sayer concert when this song was popular, and his performance and the show were TERRIFIC.
What you want is "Long Tall Glasses" ✌💖☮
You should listen to Long Tall Glasses!
No xylophone, it was a riff on the Wurlitzer electric piano. 😊 Love your reactions!!
Yes! Thank you!
You're sure it's not a Rhodes? 😉

The show is Top of the Pops.
This sounds like it could've been written for early Michael Jackson. Great disco sound with a unique voice!
Elvis liked the song and according to Leo, the two men talked on the phone just hours before Elvis died. True story.

Takes me back to my 'disco-dayz' 😎🪅🔉

I loved this song in the 70s .
You think that's quirky? He did a BBC concert dressed as a clown, makeup and all.
I think the xylophone sound was a organ they were played more often years ago
Fun fact, when Leo lived in America, his neighbour was John Holmes the adult movie star, they used to hang out together, not literally of course 🤣🇬🇧
What 😂😂😂
Music was so creative back in those days.
i just like this song
Belly laughing 😂
Watching again 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
the live version of the show must go on where Leo is dressed as a clown is phenomenal.
My favourite song by Leo is :Long Tall Glasses"
You have to listen to Orchard Road. It is my fave of his.
Now you need Long Tall Glasses
You must try I love you more than I can say, was my favorite in high school lol
The man can sing
Last time I heard a xylophone it was in a Too Short song.
Great reaction - his other great is / when I need love.
4:09, Nah, Britt..It's an electric piano doing the riff there, probably the Fender Rhoads 88 in popular use at the time.
I'm thinking that keyboard was set to mimic a vibraphone. jmho
Damn it I just realised I’ve been singing ‘dance the night away’ for 42 years
Hey Britt ❤. Please more Angelina. Jazzy version of bad Valentine.
Maybe 🤭
