This is why the EAGLES are the greatest American rock band. They are known for their incredible harmonies and incredible song writing. They sound just as amazing live as they are on their album. I have seen every concert tour that they have had since the 1986. Every concert is just as amazing as the first time time that I saw them.
Oh, it was definitely a radio hit! Trust me. I was 11 when it was released in 1973, since we couldn’t really afford much in the way of albums or concerts, the radio was the only place I heard it all through high school and college. And for those times I wanted to hear it when it wasn’t playing on the radio, I learned to play it on the guitar.
The Eagles are perfectionists in their music. I have been an Eagles fan for 50 years. I have seen them live 11 times. You want harmonies listen to more of their music!
The Eagles are so meaningful to me. Me and my father shared a love of this band and after his passing, the music still connects me to him to this day. This is such a beautiful song and Don Henley's voice being described as chill mountain air gave me goosebumps. More Eagles!!!!
Absolutely love your reaction to this! I have been an Eagles fan foe over 50 years. I have seen them in concert 11 times and they never disappoint! You are a sweetie pie!
The Melborn concert was a reunion concert for a fan base they had for too long neglected. They realized this after each had gone their separate ways years before, and felt a need to repay their greatest fans by giving them an exclusive reunion concert. A perfect example of their character as Human Being's. Good men all.
Linda Ronstadt's "Desperado" got more air play than the Eagles' version, and Don Henley credited her with making it popular. Her version came out in 1973 as the B-side to her single Colorado. Then on her album Don't Cry Now. It was played heavily on FM radio at the time.
I always thought of a desperado as a cowboy, who is running for the Mexican border to escape the lone ranger, lol. So the lyric that says he’s out riding fences fits right into that old west image.
Eagles had a country / western flavor to them. Desperado was a cowboy wanted by the law. Witch woman was always one of my favorite Eagles song. A favorite Eagles song is sort of like picking your favorite candy.
Great reaction!!!! Your facial expressions show that you get the music. They have so many great recordings, from rock to easy listening Life in the Fast Lane to Lying Eyes {great harmony}, Hotel California to Peaceful Easy Feeling and Desperado. It was a laid back time, with music that had feeling and meaning. Great times. Thank you.
Linda Ronstadt’s version of this song is stunning. Her live performance from 1977 is easily found and well worth watching. Eagles released this song to disappointing sales. A short time later Don Henley urged his friend, Linda, to cover the song. She turned it into a smash hit for both versions. 🌸💐✌️
They were Linda Ronstadt back band and she encouraged them to go out on their own. She made this song a hit and they sang it to honor her. Great reaction Britt!!!
Thank you so much for reacting to my pick! ❤❤ The Eagles are one of my mums favourite bands and this song always makes me remember being a kid and relaxing with her at night with a hot chocolate and just talking and listening to good music just the two of us. I love getting to share this song with people and the Eagles are just great over all! Thanks again!!
One of my favorite radio hits and the reason i bought their desperado album when it came out. You know your reactions to these songs almost make me feel young again 😅
I will NEVER understand these groups getting upset and blocking reaction videos! Don't they understand how many people may have never otherwise heard their music or even heard of THEM without these channels?! They should be thanking you all for the free publicity, for appreciating their music, and creating an entirely new generation of fans!
I watch reactions as a way of re-living songs I've enjoyed through the eyes of someone new. I probably wouldn't be watching these videos on my own so it's not affecting the original artist at all. I wouldn't mind if the original artist got "some" of the proceeds from the reaction video but they seem to want all or nothing.
According to Henley, "Desperado" was based on a song he started in 1968, written in the style of old songs by Stephen Foster.[4] The song was originally about a friend named Leo and with the opening line "Leo, my God, why don't you come to your senses. Although it was never released as a single, it became one of Eagles' best-known songs. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time", The piano introduction of the song is taken from Ray Charles' version of "Georgia On My Mind". According to an interview with Don Henley, "Desperado" was not a hit for the Eagles until Linda Ronstadt recorded it. It was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey. It was released in 1973. This performance appears to be in Melbourne Australia. It also looks like Don Hendly is the last of original band members.. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time"
Oh you have to do a reaction to Clint Black's cover if those song. Clint has such a rich tone that gives it a completely different sound. But this was my dad's favorite song before he passed away, so it's got a special place in my heart.
Love, love love! The greatest rock band ever! My opinion. Great reaction. Glenn Frey and Merle Haggard died in the same year. I am still not over their passing.
@@dsusan17 They probably have almost as many hits as the Beatles! I think I can name more of their songs than the Be Beatles, and I'm a Beatles fan! The Beatles transformation was shocking to me, until I understood their work. The Eagles are a solid band with talent abound, such great writers, and musicians.
Since I was a teenager, I've always felt like this is my theme song. I'm now 54 years old and I'm still walking this world alone. I would give anything to find my queen of hearts. I pray that it's not too late for me but, I'm afraid that it is...
As other have said it definitely was a big hit song and it’s always a great concert hit. I’ve seen the Eagles 3 times and they were/are fantastic live. When Henley sings this you can hear the audience singing it along with him.
When the Eagles came on the scene in '72, they filled or even added a niche, Folk music was changing with Croce' - Chapin - Stevens - Lightfoot and others, Black Sabbeth was changing the face of rock since '69, Psychedelic was fading out, the death of Hendrix and Joplin two weeks apart in '70 shook the industry, Morrison and Allman in '71, and many others, the Beatles break-up in '70 put CCR as the biggest band in the World, the sounds of Funk, Punk and Disco were starting to be heard, the face of music was changing on all fronts and the Eagles had a unique presence and sound that was bridging the gap between older and younger listeners throughout the 70s, along with other bands like The Allman Bros. - The Doobie Bros. - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and being that You were in Georgia, I would think that you would know the funk rock band Mothers Finest, it was an interesting time to listen to all the new sounds and styles on the radio in the '70s...
Was so fortunate to see them during the History of the Eagles tour in Dallas, before Glen Fry passed away. Pure professionals, live. They are just amazing musicians.
Britt, Tequila Sunrise would be another great song to listen and react to! From the same venue and concert in Melbourne! Glenn Frey is the lead singer! The harmonies are great!
My first cassette was Eagles Greatest Hits 71-75, I played it every night when I went to bed, side 1, one night and side 2 the next. Desperado was the last song on side one. Growing up in the 70's we were still watching a lot of Westerns on TV so listening to the Eagles was part of all that. Cowboys, Ranchers and Outlaws, Eagles music and a 14 yr old imagination, what a combination. Eagles Greatest hits was certified 38 times platinum in 2018.
54yo black man from wash dc.. my dad swore by the eagles and made shore i knew who they were.. i never regreted i live my life based on their songs❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤THANKS!!!!!!
I saw the Eagles at RFK Stadium the Hell Freezes Over Tour. Was lucky that a friend works for the ‘Skins organization and we got to see the show in Jack Kent Cooke’s skybox. Every song was sung by the fans. Every word was sung.
The Eagles Greatest Hits is the 3rd best selling album of all time with 45 million sold. This is on that album. All the songs weren’t big radio hits but they are very well known. This has been covered by many artists.
This was the title for the album Desperado. It wasn't a deep cut. That album sold over 2 million copies and was one of the biggest things on the radio when I was growing up in the 1970s Writer Logan Puissegar best described the meaning of this song. He writes "“Desperado” depicts a cowboy who refuses to fall in love. He is too busy on his high horse to “let somebody love him.” The song often relates to addicts, who let alcohol, drugs or other addictions hold them back from what they are called to. For Don Henley and the rest of the Eagles, the deeper meaning of the song portrays the stress of being a rock star, a recurring theme amongst their music. The life of a musician is very stressful. It includes suffering, and at times, loneliness". The queen of diamond depicts material things while the queen of hearts represents love. Material things will only leave us wanting more. Only love will fulfill us. While the word comes from the Latin meaning to despair or lose hope. I think it's talking more about letting pride get in the way of what is best for him.
This is actually a Linda Ronstadt song, the song was written by Don Henley and Glen Fry who were both previously with Linda Ronstadt. Not only were they friends, but Linda was aware of them wanted to become serious songwriters. So Linda recorded the song for her album Don't Cry Now 1973, the same year as the Desperado album. Both were on the Asylum label, the label never released the song as single for either. But Linda performed the song regularly in concert and popularized the song (even garnering some radio play). Don Henley has even said that it's Linda song. It was because of Ronstadt popularizing the song, that it was included on the first Eagles Greatest Hits package.
I believe that this was the first song that Don Henley wrote with Eagles. I believe that the reactions are a free advertisement for the band and the song and get them more traffic to their own music channels, streaming services, and album purchases. They should embrace them.
Linda Ronstadt assembled a band to back her up. and when she went solo, they called themselves the Eagles. Don Henley the drummer was the lead singer. He and Glen Frey, piano, wrote Desperado and it went no where. Linda Ronstadt sang it and it was a number one hit. even Henley said she made the song. If you really want to hear this song that will knock your sox off and is so beautiful, get Linda Ronstadt's version live, 1977; You will not regret it and play it over and over again at hiome
This song always gets to me. My late wife told me that before we started dating that this song always reminded her of me. We were married for 23 years when she died at the age of 50 of cancer in 2019.
I'm embarrassed to admit this. Although the Eagles were at their heights when I thought I was at my height....I didn't listen carefully. Later in life I did. I love everything they did. They are one of the few bands who sound the same "live" as they do on their albums.
This song has such deep meaning. There is a reason Don Henley is so passionate. Amazing, incredible song. A heartbroken soul, someone who has given up.......never had love, so couldnt believe in love. Chooses the Queen of Diamonds, when the Queen of Hearts is always the best bet. The greatest line in this amazing masterpiece song..."Freedom? Oh freedom, well that's just somebody talking....your prison is walking through this world all alone" Trust me.........there has never been a truer line ever spoken. Don Henley is an American treasure and an absolute living legend.
One of the many remarkable things about this song is that it's one of the only true ballads ever to make top 40. A "true" ballad has no chorus, only non-repeating verse lyrics.
Don Henley’s voice is sooooo great. Saw him live in Perth Western Australia awhile back on a solo tour in which he sung this in a botanical garden under the stars, just awesome
Speaking of the way he's dressed... I've seen them live twice. They begin the concert in suits during the 1st set. Then, they come out like it's casual Friday for the 2nd set. 🙌😂
You have to listen to Linda Ronstadt's version. You can only imagine! It wasn't a popular song w/ the Eagles until Ms Ronstadt sang it. Then it blew up w/ The Eagles. 🎵 Both versions are ICONIC! Love & peace! ❤✌🏼
They had been living in her basement, rent free. While on tour with Linda, they mentioned that they were writing songs for themselves - Linda felt they could be a success so she fired them (mid-tour!) - but didn't kick them out of the basement.
There was a local rock band around here back in the 70’s and every night the lead singer would do desperado all by himself… RIP Allan Lancaster! It was one of my favorite parts of their set!
Thank you for reacting to this ...that's my favorite band ....since high school and I'm 61 ....they used that song as an encore ...that's why he was sweating...also he's the drummer but he's been playing on fewer songs as the years have gone by
"Chicken soup for the soul" series of books were great. A similar book that I loved was "Everything I Really Needed to Know, I Learned In Kindergarten" pick up a copy if you can. It really makes sense.
This was from the "Hell Froze Over" tour. After they broke up Don or Glen was asked if they would ever get back together again and he answered, "When Hell Freezes Over". I see reactors like the VJ's of MTV, and artists wanted their music to be seen and heard. Blocking doesn't make sense to me.
In 1993, a tribute album to the Eagles was released, featuring covers of their greatest songs, by country artists. This one was covered by Clint Black, and he amped that soulful lonliness off the charts.
The lyrics to this great Eagles song always make me think of someone writing a letter to himself - a look in the mirror, if you will. ‘If you don’t change your ways, you will end up alone'… And this is one of the best lines in pop songwriting: And freedom, oh, freedom, well, that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone
"dont you draw the queen of diamonds, boy, she'll beat you if she's able, you know the queen of harts is always you best bet" one of the best lines ever written....in fact this whole song is one of the best lines ever written......."Freedom, oh freedom, thats just some people talkin, your prison is walking through this world all alone".....damn.......you can keep your Icey Spice and Sexxy Red.....this is real music!
This song has always meant so much to me. I was a desperado for most of my life, always choosing the "Queen of Diamonds".. I finally opened the gate, and Let somebody love me and my life is so much better for it. Though I've always loved the song, the true meaning of the song didn't hit me until I was in my 40s probably.
As much as the Wikipedia definition is basically , a desperado is a criminal alone and, on the run. I interpret this song as the desperado being a person that is alone because he/she is on the run from love and is afraid to let it in. "Let somebody love you before it's too late"
The Eagles were the most successful American Rock band and they hated each other. They broke up and each member recorded at least one award winning Album. Amazing, with the tightest harmonies.
The Eagles, Americas greatest band of all time...top selling band of the 70's, top selling album of the century over 200 million albums sold ..the crazy thing is they only made 7 studio albums..6 in the 70s 1 in 2008...cmon on thats insane. And now they r head lighting the Sphere...im blown away....greatness
It's a wonderful song. If it gets blocked (or not) you could do Linda Ronstadt's cover. It's a 'better' song when sung by a woman anyway. This particular 'Desperado' spends his time 'riding fences'. Huge ranches would hire people to live out on the edges of civilisation in isolated cabins They could go months without even seeing another person. Often, when they finally did get into town they didn't know how to interact with others.
I remember there being a series of western movies when i was a teenager called Desperado and this song always played at the end. I don't remember who the actor was but he was a PDC kind of rugged cowboy...
The Eagles never released Desperado as a single. Don Henley wrote it prior to he and Frey forming the Eagles. Linda Rondstat recorded it, and it was huge for her. I am so glad that you reacted to it. The radio did play it, even though it wasn't a single. You should really delve into this band, even if you can't always get a video. They do have the greatest selling album of all time, beating out Thriller.
Please do more Eagles. Hotel California. Take it easy. I can't tell you why. Especially Take it to the limit. My favorite of all time. You'll love it. Thanx darlin.
Great reaction, Britt! 😊 Every track on the album of the same name is epic. It was just the group's second LP, but it quickly caught fire. One of my faves is "Saturday Night." ❤
The last reviewer (And many others apparently), Linda Ronstadt does a beatiful rendition of this song. I don't know which one came out first, but I think it was written for her. The Eagles started out as Linda's back up band.
It was a pretty popular song in the 70's, sadly it turned out to be prophetic in my life. I will be 67 soon and have been single my entire life and never had any children. So this hits home hard. As one of the lines said, I had my reasons.
This song inspired a series of wester tv movies (5 in all) about a wanted man searching for the one person who could prove his innocence. The first simply called Desperado.
Great reaction ❤. Eagles a bit special. Have you heard Oddessy? - use it up, wear it out. - back to my roots - if you’re looking for a way out. Or the real thing - you to me. Amazing 70s disco from Liverpool, England. Love when a song grabs you like this one ❤️👍🏽👍☘️

I agree but try the Ian Matthews version produced by Mike Nesmith before the Eagles covered it.

Many of the comments will mention the fact that Linda Ronstadt does a breathtaking version of this. It's true.
Linda was "close" with the Eagles. As musicians some backed Linda in the early 70's before she suggested they form their own band. Special bond.

I'm embarrassed to admit this. Although the Eagles were at their heights when I thought I was at my height....I didn't listen carefully. Later in life I did. I love everything they did. They are one of the few bands who sound the same "live" as they do on their albums.
I saw them in Cardiff on this tour and this is what closed the show out. Outf**kingstanding. One of the great tracks of the 1970s.
The last song Glenn Frey performed with the Eagles before his passing. Very fitting. Beautiful song.
I was lucky enough to see them live years ago. One of the best shows I have seen. They did four encore performances and this song was the final.
Thanks!
Seven Bridges Road!!!! Eagles MUST hear. Even if you can’t show the reaction it is harmony perfection!!!
The Eagles are such a good group, i enjoy their music you can feel the music
One of the many remarkable things about this song is that it's one of the only true ballads ever to make top 40. A "true" ballad has no chorus, only non-repeating verse lyrics.
Don Henley’s voice is sooooo great. Saw him live in Perth Western Australia awhile back on a solo tour in which he sung this in a botanical garden under the stars, just awesome
This was the EAGLES first hit as a band. It is an amazing song!!!
No, "Take it Easy" from their first album (1972) was their first hit. Then followed by "Witchy Woman" from the same album.
All the tv movies Desperado with Alex McArthur have this song for the intro and its where i first fell in love this song
The Eagles were originally Linda Ronstadt's back up band and although they originally recorded this song, Ronstadt turned into a major hit.
Never knew that. Wow. I'm 59 years old. Thats cool.
Just Frey and Henley
They had been living in her basement, rent free. While on tour with Linda, they mentioned that they were writing songs for themselves - Linda felt they could be a success so she fired them (mid-tour!) - but didn't kick them out of the basement.
There was a local rock band around here back in the 70’s and every night the lead singer would do desperado all by himself… RIP Allan Lancaster! It was one of my favorite parts of their set!
I cannot hear this song without thinking of that Seinfeld episode, the one where Elaine’s boyfriend was obsessed with the song
Witchy Woman?
@@mattgarfinkle978 No. He blew out my Witchy Woman, and he won't share Desperado. Hey,
what d'you think of Oye Como Va?
Thank you for reacting to this ...that's my favorite band ....since high school and I'm 61 ....they used that song as an encore ...that's why he was sweating...also he's the drummer but he's been playing on fewer songs as the years have gone by
One of my favorite songs ever!!
Nope not from hell freezes over. Its the last song from their Australia farewell 1 tour
I have always loved the Eagles!!!
‘If you don’t change your ways, you will end up alone'…
And this is one of the best lines in pop songwriting:
And freedom, oh, freedom, well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone
"dont you draw the queen of diamonds, boy, she'll beat you if she's able, you know the queen of harts is always you best bet" one of the best lines ever written....in fact this whole song is one of the best lines ever written......."Freedom, oh freedom, thats just some people talkin, your prison is walking through this world all alone".....damn.......you can keep your Icey Spice and Sexxy Red.....this is real music!
My late husband loved when a friend would sing this sitting around the fire. When he died I had her sing it at his funeral. It was fitting...
The Eagles, Don Henley always make me feel something
This song has always meant so much to me. I was a desperado for most of my life, always choosing the "Queen of Diamonds".. I finally opened the gate, and Let somebody love me and my life is so much better for it. Though I've always loved the song, the true meaning of the song didn't hit me until I was in my 40s probably.
As much as the Wikipedia definition is basically , a desperado is a criminal alone and, on the run. I interpret this song as the desperado being a person that is alone because he/she is on the run from love and is afraid to let it in. "Let somebody love you before it's too late"
They are such a beautiful Band❤
The Eagles were the most successful American Rock band and they hated each other. They broke up and each member recorded at least one award winning Album. Amazing, with the tightest harmonies.
My favorite American band, and this is still on RUclips.
Love Love ❤❤❤ The Eagles are one of the best bands ever
Don does a great duet with Stevie Nicks...Leather and Lace.. Stevie does a great duet with Tom Petty...Stop Dragging My Heart Around..
I prefer Don's version.... Linda's is great, but this is the one that touches me.
I love this song and a local radio station plays it once in a while. There is a western trilogy by the same name.
I remember there being a series of western movies when i was a teenager called Desperado and this song always played at the end. I don't remember who the actor was but he was a PDC kind of rugged cowboy...
This was one of their BIGGEST radio hits!
Will do!
Glenn Fry and Bob Seger have connections going back to their childhood and each have helped the other with hit songs for each others bands
It was a pretty popular song in the 70's, sadly it turned out to be prophetic in my life. I will be 67 soon and have been single my entire life and never had any children. So this hits home hard. As one of the lines said, I had my reasons.
7 Bridges Road is a must hear.
This time, live version is a ten, studio 8.5 or 9. Heard so much back then>now is sweet nostalgia.
I have the Eagles Farewell 1 Tour - Live From Melbourne on DVD. The whole thing is amazing!
This song inspired a series of wester tv movies (5 in all) about a wanted man searching for the one person who could prove his innocence. The first simply called Desperado.
It made it to RUclips!
Great reaction ❤.
Eagles a bit special.
Have you heard Oddessy?
- use it up, wear it out.
- back to my roots
- if you’re looking for a way out.
Or
the real thing - you to me.
Amazing 70s disco from Liverpool, England.
Love when a song grabs you like this one ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
That final lyric gets me every time. “You better let somebody love you, before it’s too late.”
He sounds like a friend is singing a song for you!
