This brings me back to my 4 year old self. That talking intro was so memorable! This song went to #1 in 1976. They don't write songs like this anymore, which is sad.

I have always loved this performance by the Manhattens, especially the extended version one, where they keep singing the song as they are leaving the stage, but the singer goes super passionate and back-up comes back onstage to complete the extended passionate ending. This story to that song really happened. It was 1976 ish, I was 13, he was 15. He was visiting my aunt (by marriage) from another state, was a summer I won’t forget. He gave me this record (45) the day he left. I played it a million times and cried for hours! Unrequited puppy love. Sweet memories.
You can not love the Manhattans. This was my music during the time. I graduated in 1970 and yes! We did have great groups and artist back then. Thank You for reminding me our groups, however I try to keep up with newer artists. Music makes my day. 🎤🎶🎧🫶🔥💚🤎❤️💜🧡
I always thought this was Barry White, until about 10 years ago when I looked to purchase it. You can google 70's one piece jumpsuits and find many varieties. Lol.
Loved watching this with you Britt! I remember (only) listening to this when it came out and being struck with the powerful sensitivity and harmonies that are part of this hit song. Today I got to rejoice enveloped in the meaningful choreography that makes the song the artform performance, I had no idea of. Love you tube. Thank you for the reaction.
The Manhattans are great R&B vocal group who started in the 60's. Their 2 biggest hits are "Kiss & Say Goodbye" & "Shining Star". But they had other good songs such as "There's No Me Without You", "Am I Losing You", "Forever By Your Side", "Just The Lonely Talking Again" etc.
There was nothing like seeing The Manhattans in concert. I got to do so twice - in 1976 and 1980. The harmonies, the choreography, and the lead vocals by Gerald Alston (the last living member). Brings back good memories.
It’s 1978ish, a summer night in the south, we are in the front yard in the dark with the streetlight as our spotlight. Me, my bestie and her sister are the background singers/dancers for neighborhood boy who is singing lead. Girl….we DID this song! you 👏🏼hear 👏🏼 me 👏🏼!!! 💃🏻 💃🏻 💃🏻 🎤 ♥️😂
I just think so much of the older music had a focus on….ability. Can you sing? Bring it. Don’t stand on a stage grind and talk…..sing. Can you sing. Love it. Respect.
True singing groups are something so many younger folks just know nothing about. The Manhattan's are one of the best from the Classic Soul era of the '70s and I'm.do glad to have grown up.eith this music. Welcome to the party.
Unfortunately the gentleman singing lead (Gerald Alston) is the only one still with us. Check out Shining Star by the Manhattans , and Do it Baby by the Miracles ( Smokey Robinson's group led by Billy Griffin in matching pink outfits)
Oh Britt, you’re too funny & too cute! Between the “adulterers trifling”, the bodysuit & wanting someone to “source” it for you, & critiquing the choreography, it’s too much & we love it, we aren’t complaining, we’re just making an observation & IYKYK about the 70s! 😂 My teenage years were in the 70s and yes, they were amazing, especially the music, clothes, & THE HAIR!!😂
The dance moves aren't any funnier than the ones today with backup dancers jumping around all over the place in weird costumes. Every generation looks back at previous ones in amusement because it looks strange to us now.
my dad grew up with most of the Manhattans, as a kid I got to go to Sonny Bivins house, the time I went I remember seeing his gold Album on the wall. This song was one of their biggest songs. The group formed in Jersey City NJ, where I was born, the lead singer is Gerald Alston (Henderson NC) He is the nephew of Shirely Alston Reeves, former lead singer of the Shirelles. He is the only surviving member from the original group.
I fricken LOVE this song.... I've loved it all my life and I will to the day I die.... it always resonated with me... just the best!!! BTW, "I got ties, and so do you", means it ain't just about the fella, it takes two to tango, ya'know?!"
Britt...my (future) husband at the time (49 Years ago!!) wore this light blue polyester color in a tux for his best friends wedding. It was indeed a "thing".
Britt, I always enjoy how spirited your reactions are such that it's no surprise that it garnered you a wonderful message from Mrs. Beckett for everyone of your followers to relish from the previous reaction to Player's 'Baby Come Back!' Seeing your enthusiastic and genuine reaction to the stylings of this song and its simplicity of the dance moves and vocal arrangements I thought I'd jump on my laptop and quickly recommend a song in a similar vein for you sort of in this styling that I have yet to see anyone having reacted to thus far. This movie came out right in the early 80s called The Idolmaker has a number in it I think you would enjoy from a young, up and coming actor named Peter Gallagher. While there are other songs in the movie that would make for wonderful music appreciations and reactions as well, I would like to call to your attention to this particular number called 'However Dark The Night' in order to see if you might one day soon film and post a reaction to it. I don't have anything to offer other than a recommendation which I believe you'd enjoy, judging by your reaction to the Manhattans here. Check it out and let your viewers know what you think in that signature delivery that only Britt Reacts can bring to the viewers! We love you and have the greatest day you deserve! Thank you for considering a viewing and reaction to this song if you decide to do such! God bless you! I don't know if you'd consider it worthy of the PDC, but perhaps it might (mystery music playing in the background)...???? Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/IkU6ekp4SzM/видео.html BTW, definitely a thumbs up on reactions to the Manhattans and Player. One thing of note, I think you just might be reading this song a little bit off. It seems the two lovers in this story had a conundrum of how to carry on a love in which the singer(s) has to carry on with his obligations of touring on the road with the band while she has familial or friendship ties, or school, or job, or some other daily life routine of her own that require her to remain where she is and so the two lovers realize they can't keep up their romance, sort of in the spirit of what Steve Perry described in Faithfully where he mentions "loving a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be," only in this case, the two realize they can't be forever one another's for whatever legitimate, possibly innocent reasons they might have. They both however realize they can't carry on a relationship of the nature of their developing affections towards one another given their circumstances and definitely not outside of wedlock. One thing you young kids must remember, back then despite some evidence to the contrary, given that it was the post Woodstock era where people were giving into the rebellion of peace and supposed freedom of loving the one you're with, not everyone of that era believed in a deepening, intimate relationship outside of wedlock. There were still many people upholding traditional values back in that era, who rather than trifling to maintain a love affair or relationship outside of the ability to wed one another, people would drop budding romances and move on given their circumstances to the contrary from a relationship being carried all the way forward to the fruition of marriage. In other words, people still operated under respectworthy limits while seeing if a romantic relationship was even possible, let alone carry on with one. I grew up in that era and saw it often with my aunts and uncles and the people they dated, but didn't necessarily have what you kids these days call "hookup" or "booty call" relationships. While there were definitely the sort of "fools who rushed in" types of affairs going on, without a doubt, there were also those who knew when to pull back the reigns and not allow things to progress any further. I would liken it to Janet Jackson's words in "Let's wait a while, before it's too late, let's wait a while, before we go too far..." and that was the 80s not 1976 as with the Manhattans. There are also songs in a similar vain such as Jermaine Stewart's 'We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off (to have a good time).' Kids are too quick to rush into intimacy these days without questioning the repercussions of it. Anyway, forgive me for jumping up on a soapbox for the last long-winded paragraph. I wish I were a better writer to have condensed this message a bit better, but it is what it is. Go and have the day you hope for and deserve! God bless you and your family! That was just my two cents-- no need to return any change since two pennies aren't even monetarily worth the copper/zinc they make them with-- just a perspective from an old school, old soul, old man... hope there's some small tidbit in here that can be appreciated!
Another GREAT 70's song from my high school years. I don't know if I even know another Manhattans song, but this song is one of my all time favorite songs. The song was written by the bass player and was released in 1976.
You can tell this song is building to something. The string sound is awesome. The mix of voices is special. Each one of these guys could probably crank out hit records in today's music scene. This song reminds me a lot of "I Wish It Would Rain".
There were so many groups like this in the seventies we kind of took them for granted. They've been replaced with much less talent . IMHO
More like no talent. Music died around 93

SO PROUD AND HAPPY...THIS is the kind music I got to listen to as a teenager!!❤🎉
The campfire scene in Blazing Saddles is better than modern music.
Damn, that's a helluva reference. Can't argue with you though...
The Muppets and the Little Rascals is better than today's music.
😂
Is the hot mess they generate today classified as music?
OMG, My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE song from the 70's!! ❤🎉 It ALWAYS takes me back!!
A classic ..kids need to grow up with more general pop radio station in their home ! It's a crime to never ear this song !
You can not love the Manhattans. This was my music during the time. I graduated in 1970 and yes! We did have great groups and artist back then. Thank You for reminding me our groups, however I try to keep up with newer artists. Music makes my day. 🎤🎶🎧🫶🔥💚🤎❤️💜🧡
I had no clue what this song was about growing up..Now the whole thing is so cringe. AND I still love it! LOL
I've watched this a dozen times. Absolutely the best reaction video ever. Fabulous!! Thank you.
I always thought this was Barry White, until about 10 years ago when I looked to purchase it. You can google 70's one piece jumpsuits and find many varieties. Lol.
When I was in jr high this was the last song they played at every dance. Great reaction!
70's were THE best!
Obligations and ties don't always mean being married.
Agreed 💯
Especially in this case, since several times he says that she'll "probably find another guy" ... sweetie pie ain't go in home to hubby!
yea, right...
weve been meeting here so long,
i guess what we've done was wrong
if they were married, i agree with BR...🤦🏿🤦🏿🤔🤔
Obligations may be to ex's, to children...
I always love you, and see your reactions make me feel happy . You are incredible and funny. Thanks for all you make me feel. ❤
Wow, thank you
❤
The Manhattans are great R&B vocal group who started in the 60's. Their 2 biggest hits are "Kiss & Say Goodbye" & "Shining Star". But they had other good songs such as "There's No Me Without You", "Am I Losing You", "Forever By Your Side", "Just The Lonely Talking Again" etc.
There was nothing like seeing The Manhattans in concert. I got to do so twice - in 1976 and 1980. The harmonies, the choreography, and the lead vocals by Gerald Alston (the last living member). Brings back good memories.
Awesome song!! Just beautiful!!
Love it. Respect.
This group was amazing. Love this song. 💕
Stunning voices and pure joy to watch and listen to. 💕
Love them!
True singing groups are something so many younger folks just know nothing about.
The Manhattan's are one of the best from the Classic Soul era of the '70s and I'm.do glad to have grown up.eith this music.
Welcome to the party.
Watch the live version of ‘My Girl’ by the Temptations, it has similar choreography
Britt is as adorable as they come & just plain cute as a button & intelligent to boot!!Totally 💙 her!!!😊👍👏😌
Unfortunately the gentleman singing lead (Gerald Alston) is the only one still with us. Check out Shining Star by the Manhattans , and Do it Baby by the Miracles ( Smokey Robinson's group led by Billy Griffin in matching pink outfits)
Now I know this song lol I haven't heard the introduction.... Love it❤🎶 🎵 Great Pic Britt!!
The most beautiful breakup song ever.
I loved this song by the music and harmony. I would hear it on the radio and didn’t see the video until years later
When you suffer from 'Attention Deficit Disorder', this is what you do when evaluate a performance.
This beautiful lady is by far the best out here reacting. She’s always spot on and she’s nice to look at!!!
Beckett for everyone of your followers to relish from the previous reaction to Player's 'Baby Come Back!'
Seeing your enthusiastic and genuine reaction to the stylings of this song and its simplicity of the dance moves and vocal arrangements I thought I'd jump on my laptop and quickly recommend a song in a similar vein for you sort of in this styling that I have yet to see anyone having reacted to thus far.

BTW, definitely a thumbs up on reactions to the Manhattans and Player.
