@@chrisoakley5830 That's thanks to backing tracks being made by people stringing lines of pre-fabricated musical bars or tracks from a DAW or licensed loops. People are hardly even creating memorable melodies these days with their music tracks; it's just generic sounds to "accompany" an over embellished and auto-tune polished, ubiquitous singing style it would seem.
You see why older people hate most of the modern music of today. There is no comparison between the raw talent of the past and the corporate, algorithm driven industry of today. From the male perspective, I’ve always looked at it as the guy came to his senses and is stopping the affair. He’s doing the right thing, and doing it as kindly as he can.
Preach!!!!! Absolutely no comparison...... There's hope for the generation when 100's/1000's of these music reviews who are emotional and dumbfounded when they hear songs for the first time from the soundtracks of our lives fron the 60-70s. God bless you
I always knew this was about an affair, still so sad. Love the 70’s groups. They all had similar dance moves. Another great song about a similar subject is Me and Mrs.Jones by Billy Paul.
The Temptations were the model for a number of groups that followed in their very successful footsteps. Try these examples. PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE, PSYCHEDELIC SHACK, BALL OF CONFUSION, SUPERSTAR (REMEMBER HOW YOU GOT WHERE YOU ARE). And as for a deep voice, the song for you is PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH by the Maestro of Love Barry White. Keep listening and enjoy
This story to that song really happened. It was 1976 ish, I was 13, he was 15. He was visiting my aunt (by marriage) from another state, was a summer I won’t forget. He gave me this record (45) the day he left. I played it a million times and cried for hours! Unrequited puppy love. Sweet memories.
The singer's voices are like musical instruments, falsettos, tenors, and baritones, sopranos, and contraltos for female voices are used like brass instruments, different voice ranges used for different vocal effects.
my dad grew up with most of the Manhattans, as a kid I got to go to Sonny Bivins house, the time I went I remember seeing his gold Album on the wall. This song was one of their biggest songs. The group formed in Jersey City NJ, where I was born, the lead singer is Gerald Alston (Henderson NC) He is the nephew of Shirely Alston Reeves, former lead singer of the Shirelles. He is the only surviving member from the original group.
Heard this classic many years after it was a hit. Heard it for the 1st time at my cousins house. I'm now 50 and it's still a hit with me...on my play list always...ps Britt. You're gorgeous.
I got to live through the 70s but was only 1 1/2 when it started. What I remember most about then was disco and country music (hee haw). I think the best music was from 1975-85. Side note, I played trumpet for 7 years 6th-12th grades.
BrittReacts...it does my heart good to see someone so young enjoying "real music". Believe this....they caused a lot of women to "swoon" back in the day....the 70's were the BEST! You need to hear the "Chi-lites" song "Have you seen her"
The lead tenor here is the great Gerald Alston, one of the best. I can hear that he was greatly influenced by Sam Cooke. The bass singer, Blue Lovett, sadly, had passed on in 2014. Mr. Alston is, in fact, the only surviving member of the group you see here. On a more positive note, there is a video on YT of Mr. Alston performing this song with the latest version of the Manhattans, from just 4 months ago! He can still 'bring it' at age 72! Fun fact: Gerald Alston is the nephew of Shirley Alston Reeves, lead singer of the Shirelles.
The dance moves aren't any funnier than the ones today with backup dancers jumping around all over the place in weird costumes. Every generation looks back at previous ones in amusement because it looks strange to us now.
The deep vioce at the beginning belongs to the late Blue Lovett and the lead singer, who is also the primary lead singer is Gerald Alston. Unfortunately, 4 of these men have passed away leaving only Gerald and he is the closest I've ever heard someone to actually sound like Sam Cooke, please check out their cover of Sam Cooke's "You Send Me".
Britt...my (future) husband at the time (49 Years ago!!) wore this light blue polyester color in a tux for his best friends wedding. It was indeed a "thing".
This is so very awesome. Back in the day the music was so awesome. That's not to say music today is bad, because it is not. There are still some awesome groups out there. I was in high school when this came out LOL! I loved it then and I love it still. By the way you have a beautiful voice. Love your reaction! ♥
Good pick up on the lyrics. It's like a comedy skit, it's not just a depiction of reality, it's just the delivery of something people won't admit bit understand. Awesome reaction 🎉❤
This was one of the greatest breakup songs. Obligations could mean so many things like unexpected pregnancy, former love interest returning. It's just beautiful how to make someone feel good while dumping them. Some others...sail on (Commodores), not my type of girl(NE), all your goodies are gone(PARLIAMENT), good bye- TevinC,
Infidelity was a common lyrical theme in the 70's. Me & Mrs. Jones, Torn Between Two Lovers, Lyin' Eyes, this tune...and that's just off the top of my head. Not surprisingly it's also the decade where divorce rates took off like a rocket.
Oh, hell yeah, Britt.. it was common for black "groups" to have those matching outfits.. and also for the "girl groups".. I had a friend who commented on the girl groups about "somebody's auntie made those matching dresses" that were often not exactly "couture"... lol I love them all..(check out the Ronettes, etc.) and appreciate your reaction!
Hi Britt If You Love The Manhattans Check Out Songs There's No Me Without You, One Life To Live, Shinning Star And The Picture Became Quite Clear You Wont Be Disappointed
Britt gettin' indignant when realizing they cheatin' LMAO I've heard this great song a million times over my life and today was the first time i ever saw them on video. WOW
Mum used to say if he'll cheat with you, he'll cheat on you. I say to cheat, both have to be corrupt. Unless one is decieving the other too. It is a big sign of being morally bankrupt. It is one of the worst betrayals, even worse if you have kids. Destroys so many lives. I have to admit the music is so good though.
If you like the theme of this song , check out "Me and Mrs. Jones" by Billy Paul or more recently and from the female side "As We Lay" by Shirley Murdock.
There were so many groups like this in the seventies we kind of took them for granted. They've been replaced with much less talent . IMHO
More like no talent. Music died around 93
@@andreadeamon6419Agreed, modern music isn't even real, it's manufactured junk that sounds like it comes in a box, off an assembly line.

They honestly don't do it music like this anymore. The story of the song. The harmony. The music. The gentleman dressed up uniform together.
Poetry in music ......not garbage ......real heart felt for the ears and soul
Sophomore year in high school (1980) The Manhattans came out with Shining Star - was one of the slow dance favorites and a great song!
The 70's was a great time for music and good vibes. It was all about freedom to just BE.
Remember Be-in's?
BARRY WHITE... HIS DEEP VOICE WAS VERY WARM N VELVETY... RIP BW..!!!
I always knew this was about an affair, still so sad. Love the 70’s groups. They all had similar dance moves. Another great song about a similar subject is Me and Mrs.Jones by Billy Paul.

Nice story. I’m the same age. What a great time to be a kid or young adult. 👋🏽
I have loved this song since the first time I heard it.... but I will never hear it again without thinking of your reaction! You are the best!!
I came in to say the same thing, the pure joy you see on her face.
Oh yes indeed!!! One of the best songs ever written 😊
The singer's voices are like musical instruments, falsettos, tenors, and baritones, sopranos, and contraltos for female voices are used like brass instruments, different voice ranges used for different vocal effects.
The is one of my favorites of this genre- great reaction.
Another example of why the 70s is called the greatest decade in popular music.

I love the way this song builds and just keeps building.
I remember hearing this song on WABC radio in NYC back in the day.
This is real music... I'm glad that I grew up during those days!
He's a great singer
Yes the 70’s were a wonderful time to be alive.
Great reaction! You gotta know the moves when you get on the dance floor now... And the grand Amen at the end is fire.
Great Reaction Britt. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. I love this song.

'I Kinda Miss You' is my favourite Manhattans song, give it a shot people!
The dance moves aren't any funnier than the ones today with backup dancers jumping around all over the place in weird costumes. Every generation looks back at previous ones in amusement because it looks strange to us now.
You too have a lovely voice Britt!!
There's No Me Without You is another must listen!!

I close my eyes and I am slow dancing in my high school gym. Dang, don't make me cry.
I saw them in Darmstadt twice . it was fantastic.

Whoohoo!! The Manhattans are so good! And Kiss and say goodbye is on of my favorites. If you like what they did, you have to try "Shining Star" 🥰

The best song from the 70's about "having ties" is Billy Paul "Me and Mrs Jones" 💓🔥🤣
Barry White!...Good singer!
Its probably polyester for the time. Great times. And most groups had a soprano and base singer. And a live band.
Oh, hell yeah, Britt.. it was common for black "groups" to have those matching outfits.. and also for the "girl groups".. First time I ever heard this song was on Soul Train in the 70's
The first line always cracked me up: This has got to be the saddest day in my life 🤣
Hi Britt If You Love The Manhattans Check Out Songs There's No Me Without You, One Life To Live, Shinning Star And The Picture Became Quite Clear You Wont Be Disappointed
They all had sopranos. The Temptations were the most recognizable of the "boy bands". They started probably in the 50's, but the 70's were the best!
Melvin Franklin was the guy with the deep voice in the Temptations.
Your analysis is great. "Side Piece"!
I miss the 70's music.
You really want to hear a male soprano then you have to listen to The Stylistics and listen to their song called "You make feel brand New"
Britt gettin' indignant when realizing they cheatin' LMAO
I've heard this great song a million times over my life and today was the first time i ever saw them on video. WOW
You had to be born in the 70's to understand the music! ❤❤❤
😂😂😂 Oh, my heck, I love your reaction!
I know you'd Love the Stylistics: "You make me feel Brand New", "Betcha By Golly Wow"
Miss the 70`s
His obligations might have been military, her ties might have been her job or school. So it doesn't necessarily mean cheating
ROFL,, you are so right. Me and Mrs Jones on steroids. The Manhattans were fabulous and yes, I lived it all..
When music was music. Now days they could even make me sound good. One had to actually have a singing voice then.

Girl I need to get me one of those outfits
I haven't watched yet, but this one has to be an entertaining reaction... 😂

Yes, the world's best decade.
I was 18 by 1979. It was such a fun time to be alive!! It’s not the same anymore. Music isn’t music as this is. Great memories.
@@chrisoakley5830I'm with you there. Great time to be alive!
Yes, in deed the music, the clothes, the big afros best time ever. And we partied hard and just had a good time.
It was better to be 20 in the 70’s than be 70 in the 20’s… yes I stole this from a meme.
Your reaction is great
O'Jays, Main Ingredient, 5 Stairsteps, Chi Lites, Stylistics, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes & Spinners are a few more

Rose Royce's Car Wash album was a favorite of mine. Thank God I had older siblings that listened to the best music in the 60's & 70's.
Brittany, I am so happy seeing you enjoying old music. That’s soul. It warms you up.
I was born in 1963 and grew up in the '70's with the best music ever. Every genre, I really miss it.

1966 here, and the 70s was music's best decade.
