"Sail On" is a magnificent song by the Commodores with Lionel's wondrous voice.
Yes "Sail On" is great and I love the video!
Sail on.....Yes!!!!
Sail On is black country.
Yes. ❤
Yessssssss!
She's a Brick House. That says it all IMHO.
THAT'S the one!!!
Too Hot Ta Trot is even better
Most people don't realize Lionel Richie is not the lead vocalist on "Brick House", Walter Orange, who alternated lead vocals with Richie is the lead singer on that song.
Lionel had left the Comodores when this song came out .I think the only hit song the Comodores did after Lionel left the band .
Lionel Richie, a true songwriter. I can't give higher praise these days.
"Three Times a Lady" is it, for me... thanks for the reaction to a great song.
Ohmygosh…this is such a great song…his voice is phenomenal. ❤😊 No one can ever sing like Lionel Ritchie 😊
Lionel is a masterclass lyricist. Spent many nights in the early 80’s waiting to hear his songs come on the radio, or calling the radio DJ to request a song and dedicate it to that certain special person out there
I am so grateful to have grown up in time back then when songs were such crafted pieces of genius.
The Commodores sang Brick House. Everyone needs to listen to that at least one time in their life ! And I think he is PDC worthy ! This is when he went solo I think . I maybe wrong though.❤
This is why he went solo, but he's still with The Commodores here...Yes, "Brickhouse" is a must (Lionel still plays it live at his solo shows, too!)
I cane here to mention brick house myself
There was a show called Lip Sync Battle with Jimmy Fallon, and somebody (Jason Derulo, maybe?) did Brick House, as if Rick James was the artist. Which is hilarious, because it totally feels like a Rick James joint.
Brick house was the most fun to dance to.
She's a brick house she's mighty mighty just letting it all hang out
Every way you just described him is exactly what Lionel Richie is I think that guy has always come across very seasons while grounded and professional and people love them rockstars country western artists rhythm and blues we all love Lionel ... God bless him!
Lionel Richie could sing the Sears catalog.....and has always been AMAZING.....forever....I am 70 and will listen to anything he sings.
70’s & 80’s had some of the most powerful written love songs of all time!
1) "Stuck On You" 2) "Say You, Say Me" 3) "Hello" 4) "Penny Lover" 5) "Truly". 6) "All Night Long" 7) "Endless Love" 8) "Running With The Night" 9) "Brick House" 10) "Easy" 11) "Lady"... Lionel Richie wrote the lyrics and composed the music to a multitude of #1 and top #10 songs on the record charts and wrote songs for other vocal artists. He was and stil is gifted and talented. Everyone played his songs in the 1970's and 1980's. I took my college girlfriend to a Commadors concert in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois in 1980. It was an enjoyable evening. Lionel is definitely worthy of being on your play list. You just have to listen to all his songs.
Hello. Lionel is just so awesome. With the Commodores and solo.
Listening now to the music I used to listen to back then in my grade-school and preteen years, it's no wonder I felt like I'd never, ever get over every breakup I experienced. These songs kept the heartbreak alive and well way too long.
Truly or Hello is possibly PDC worthy. All his ballads have this same general tempo. His duo Endless Love with Diana Ross is probably his best love song aside from Lady.
Imo, this song is way better than either of those two songs. It showcase's Richie's vocal range better.
I bought my aunt a cutting board with Lionel Richie’s likeness on it. It has “ Hello? Is it me you’re cooking for?” On it. 😂
My favorite song by Lionel Ritchie. So beautiful. Such a gifted man.
This song still gets me in the feels EVERY SINGLE TIME. I think it's that dramatic pause when he finally sings "still".
Maybe because I've been there. But not really. When this song came out I was 11 and even then it broke my little heart.
I LOVE his song "Deep River Woman." Since I was a little child, I have loved Lionel and could sing his songs. So great!
Love this song , have you heard Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross or Just To Be Close To You by The Commodores fantastic songs
This hit hard. Been 20+ yrs. Hope she is happy.
This one brings me right back to my teens😢it still hits as if I had some kind of soul crushing love that only a teenager thinks they could be feeling and that no one else ever felt😊
Stunning song and a brilliant reaction as usual.
Lionel Richie is ahhhmazing. Fantastic…songwriter!
“You Mean More To Me” from his first solo album. I used it the first to tell her I loved her. It was our wedding dance song. She’ll hear it again August 9, 37 years and counting❤❤❤!
My favorite Commodores track! So so beautiful.
I can’t remember how many times I slow danced to this song! Lucky enough to have seen them live while in college at Mississippi State!
I love the Commodores and Lionel Richie and have some of his music but I had forgotten this song. Memories coming back,
Lionel Richie is a legend from my teenage years and still today nothing like it
"Truly" is one the best songs he's done .
Oh my goodness.....this song was one of THE songs of my young, growing hormonal life lol. Aawww memories :)
In the Commodores Band, Mr. Richie played the Saxophone and the piano. He sung lead on some songs and also did background vocals when others sang lead. The band started in the late 60's when a group of
Tuskegee institute students (one of which was Lionel Richie) got together and formed the band. He broke out from the band in the early 80s, after he and Diana Ross sung the song "Endless Love" for the movie. I love the Commodore songs: Just Want to be Close to You, Jesus is Love, 3 times a Lady, Easy, Sail On and Brick House... just to name a few.😊
I just saw Earth, Wind and Fire and Lionel Richie in concert in DC earlier this year. It was a real treat!🤩😊
I was 12 years old when I first heard Lionel's voice and I have been hooked ever since.
Back in the late 70s early eighties I pretty much listened to country. But I had my commodore and earth wind and fire, Aretha, and some R&B vinyls in the pile.
My opinion…one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Lionel’s cassettes were all in my car, played to death! LOL
I’ve cried many tears to this song! 😢
Thank you for doing these songs. It reminds me of my youth and getting ready for school because we played the Commadors and Motown of that era on a reel to reel every morning.
I gotta wonder why The Commodore's song, "SWEET LOVE"! It always reminds me of my first crush ❤
I believe he had just gone out on his solo career.
Ohhh I love Sweet Love and Lionel should be in the PDC if I'm voting hahaha ! He/They had quite a few really good ones! Sweet Love is at the top of the list for me
@@justrob2656 yes, me too lol ..
Love all his music, Commodors, Lionel Richie GREAT PIC BRITT
I was a senior in high school when this song was released. Yeah I was 18 years old in 1979. 🤗
Great song I love this song great job by Lionel Richie ❤️😍😍❤️ some people don't like slow song it all good 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Sunday Morning coming down!! My fav
I LOVE this song!!!! Great reaction
Your a very pretty lady God blesses you very well ,Take care
Lionel Ritchie is the greatest writer of love songs in the R&B/R&R era. Listen to him doing the great break up song "Sail On", "Truly", "Penny Lover", "My Love", "You Are", "Zoom", "Easy", "Three Times A Lady", "Just To Be Close To You", and of course "Hello".
great reaction. you actually need to have an extremely great control over your voice to sing this song and have it sound so smoothly and believe me when i say there are very few singers who can do it this good. in my honest opinion this song is one of the greatest songs ever made. the control of your voice and then he's playing the piano at the same time. this is true talent.
Love ❤ Lionel... "still."
this song is sheer poetry, a love song for all generations and this is power love ballad
Lovely song!! I enjoy all of his work😊
This was his single that that topped the charts.
To hear them all and hear their harmony, try Just to Be Close To You
Interesting, because this is my absolute favorite song by the Commodores.
It's my favorite song to
They usually sang together but this was a song he did and wrote while in the Commodores. Try Brick House,Easy,Sail On etc or Three Times a Lady
Since 1974 they had 4 top albums in a row (that I like) - first album "Machine Gun" (instrumental song) is still my favourite with Assembly Line and Human Zoo. The Commodore were on Motown-Label and had all band members singing - especially Thomas McClary. Brick House was often played in a row with Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music - a real floorshaker.
He's got some great love songs. PDC worthy for sure.
"Just To Be Close" and please, thank you Miss Britt!
Lionel is one of the greatest songwriters of my time. His album titled Truly - The Love Songs is one of my all-time favorites. But he wasn't the only lead singer in The Commodores. They were all great talents.
He was very good with the Commodores, but even better in his solo career....terrific singer/songwriter!!
Brick House! From the Commodores. Lionel went on his own from The Commodores.
This is a beautifully real song …I’ve always loved it✨
The Commodores started out as a funk band and later on turned toward ballads. . Some of the early and later songs you might like include Sweet Love, Just To Be Close To You, Easy, Brick House, High On Sunshine, Three Times A Lady, This Is Your Life, Old Fashioned Love and Jesus Is Love.
I think this song was their last #1 hit in the U.S. during the Lionel Richie era. It was basically a Lionel tune and not so much a Commodores tune. A lot of my friends frowned upon this song when it came out but I loved it. I guess they thought it was too depressing. One thing for sure, you don't hear true ballads like this anymore.
Another thing...it was at this point where it felt like there was slight distancing between Lionel and the rest of the group but they would never be called Lionel Richie and the Commodores. This happens with many groups where one singer would end up going out on their own the rest have to hold down the fort. Today there are only 3 members left. One of them passed away.
The Commodores were a self contained band. This song is by The Commodores "Still" is the story of a couple who decide to end their marriage to save their friendship. Lionel Richie got the idea for this song from the failing marriage of his childhood friend William "Smitty" Smith. After Smith's marriage broke up, the two buddies had a long conversation from 9 p.m. to sunrise in which they agreed that it's better to divorce as friends than stay married and hate each other. This song is about a marriage that has ended and he's telling her that he still loves her. People don't pay attention to lyrics, I attended a wedding once and the song was song during the ceremony. Obviously neither the bride nor the groom read the lyrics. Radio personality Tom Joyner was an original member of The Commodores. Lionel Richie was originally the saxophonist in the group that was formed at Tuskegee University in 1968. "Sail On" by the Commodores is also about a divorced couple where he tells the woman to "sail on", the song has a country & western sound.
Saw them in concert. Fantastic show.
When this song came out in college all you had to do was play it in your dorm with the young ladies and Lionel took care of everything else!!!
my favorite Lionel Richie song.
Definitely Brick House would be the song to Induct them in to the PDC club. This is a great song thanks for this reaction much love❤❤
What is "PDC"?
Panties ,Droping,Club
Lionel Richie is awesome. Check out his song Hello. It is awesome! Love your reaction! ♥
This is my favorite song by them.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Lionel is my favorite! His music is sung with so much emotion and passion!
Sail On is definitely Induct worthy. One of the very best singer / song writers of all times.
This is an incredibly beautiful piece! I have the sheet music to it, I have an album with it, and there is a certain risk that when it is used in any way or form that it will invoke onion cutting effects. 'nuf said...
Saludos cordiales a todos los 80 por acá la mejor música creada
Hey Britt "Just To Be Close To You" is absolutely PDC worthy and the Commodores sing on that
What Triple DDD said!
That looks familiar. I think I was there. 1979? 1980? Roanoke, Virginia? I was there.
"Three times a lady" is a wonderful song
Yes yes yes especially when it pics up.....🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for being young😂 I love hearing your take on my generations music.
Great music keep it up 😊
The Commodores began as a funk band. Many other people in the comments have mentioned the song Brick House which is their most memorable funk song. Lionel was always writing ballads and those ballads account for the lion's share of the group's hits. Lionel shined brighter and brighter, outshining the rest of the group until eventually Lionel left the group to go solo.
Lionel Richie had a different song hit #1 on the charts for 7 straight years in a row. Voted songwriter of the year 3 years in a row. The Commodores wanted to be a funk band but Lionel ability to write love songs made them become known for their love songs. The fact that he was the one who wrote all those ballads meant that he was getting the bigger potion of the money. This causes a rift between him and the band members. Do not sleep on Lionel Richie he is one of the great ones in music.
The best PDC candidate is probably Just to Be Close to You.
Another well written (but sad) song is Oh No. As a bonus, it’s featured in a sad 80’s teen movie (The Last American Virgin).
Lionel was head singer of the Commodores but at some point the group broke up and he went on his his solo way. This is a solo song of his. Can't remember if he wrote this one but he wrote many songs❤
This gives a perfect "Early Morning Pillow Talk" vibe.
Some Nominating Songs for Lionel's induction, try "Oh, No" or "Truly". Guaranteed to get him there!
For the Commodores, try one of their biggest hits... Either "Easy" or "Brick House".
BRITT! All the Commodores could sing. There were times when others sang lead as well but Lionel was the Heart and Soul of the Commodores. But you also have to remember that this song "Still" features Lionel because all he needed was a piano and his voice. I subscribed for two reasons. One, I love your dimples, smile, and personality. The other reason is I wanted you to react to the Force MD's song "Tender Love"! You are going to absolutely love this song and it's ICONIC!
A really good and fun song with Lionel Richie is called "Zoom" check it out
Did I hear the lyric "But most of all we do love Britt...... Still"😍😍
Sorry, what problem?did i say something wrong?i'm confused
Awesome song! ❤
He does the vocals alone in this one🎶🎶🎶
"Patch It Up" is another funky number if you're looking for up-tempo tracks, Britt 🎉
Ok Britt, you have to check out the commodore's song that I'm pretty sure was written about my 60 year old, smoking hot wife, "Brick House". You can find videos from the late 70's when they were in their full regalia.
Commodores, as well as Lionel solo, have a lot of great music.. Keep going. Thank you.
Commodores - "Three Times A Lady " from the same episode of The Midnight Special.
The Bass player Ronald LaPread, came 2 NZ when they disbanded & resided here.
I believe this is one of Lionel riches frist solo songs if you want a more upbeat song listen to all night long or dancing on the ceiling
Just to be Close to You by the Commodores also when Lionel wrote a love song he usually sang it You would also like Jesus is Love which the Commodores usually closed their concerts with.
I have a man crush on Lionel. I did a meet and greet at one of his concerts on his bday. I was giddy lol. He is so good
Hey Brit I keep looking for you reacting to a member of the PDC singing I will never fall in love again with the writers son Peter Donavon I am talking about Sir Tom Jones it was on the voice UK
The Midnight Special.
Best musical show ever.
“Do what you want, be who you are,” hall and Oates and have the day you deserve
Brick House, baby!! That will do it! Or is it, Britt House? LOL!
This makes me catch my breath.
