Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday and vlogs on Wednesdays! Today I'm making over a beautiful patio from start to finish! I hope this gives you inspiration to makeover your own patio. I've also thrown in some DIY Ikea outdoor furniture hacks! We've all got outdoor Ikea furniture, so I've included some simple ways to jazz it up! I hope this gives you some outdoor patio ideas on how decorate your outdoor space for summer!

She lives in Toronto. During the summer, it can get extremely hot in Southern Ontario.
That said, it was 41’c with the humidity. It was truly 35’c.
Ugh. Feel ya. It usually gets that hot here in Texas but not this year. High heat index with humidity but not a full 106--yet. Year's not over yet. Heh.
@@StephBer1 Its so funny how the misconception that Canada is cold (all the time) is so prevalent ! It gets very humid in the summers (in certain parts of Canada). Different parts of Canada are VERY different in terms of weather. There are areas of Canada that I would never be able to live in because of how cold it gets (I'm from Toronto) and I'm sure ppl from Vancouver (for instance) think Toronto is too cold.

Loved the rug, making it almost an extension of the living space. For the practical part: can they place that huge palm inside? As it's only three months of palm weather in Canada. An all-weather box for the pillows? Do the solar lamps charge underneath the umbrella? Can they close the umbrella easily when the weather changes? All looks lovely together and spacious.

This turned out beautifully. I loved so many of the features - the lanterns, the fringed umbrella, the side table. I had no idea it got to 41 deg.C in Canada ! That's more like an Australian summer heatwave ! I could feel your sunburn, you poor thing. I hope you and Alana were okay after being out in that heat. Best wishes from Australia 🤗
I was thinking that too. I'm Australia but currently living in Italy. It gets 40+ here too, but sometimes other countries call 30+ degrees a heat wave so I was expecting Alexandra to say 35 or something.
I live in the Ottawa, about 5 hours drive from Toronto where I believe Alexandra lives, and with wind chill we can get -40 degrees Celsius in the winter and with humidity we currently have +40 degrees Celsius. We haven't really gotten a break from the heat for a couple of weeks, which is a bit unusual for our part of Ontario. So ya, parts of Canada have it all! 😓
I live 2 hours southwest of her and yes, it does get freaking hot. That would have been the temperature with the humidex though, not the temperature on the thermometer.

Please, I'm begging you to repot the plants you buy. The reason they die is because you're just placing the plant into a new pot, keeping it in the original plastic pot it came in. You have to take it out of that plastic pot and repot it with more soil. Please, please!

I was obsessed with the outdoor movie theater! I finally bought one for my husband for his birthday and it is AWESOME!!! We watched the hockey playoffs out here and Blue Jays games!!! Hint, get a Firestick to plug into it...and if you are in a buggy kind of area, get some Themacell patio protector!

Very unpractical design that will not last. The small pots on the fence are pretty, but some of the plants will die in a week as they do not survive in these pots. Too many cushions on the sofa give Instagram look but useless and require extra storage. I doubt that the rug and side table are weather proof.
Love it , but I dont think a rug that light would work with all the foot traffic
Very pretty, however I would have put the dining area on the top level. Much easier to serve food from the kitchen and then after a meal, go to the lower level to relax.

I feel the idea behind the supplements brand is unique and cool, but purchasing such, creates a HUGE amount of plastic waste. I mean everyday a small plastic bag really?

Love how the solar panel for the string lights is placed right next to the exterior outlet. The plant pots are actually pretty cute tho, have only seen regular flower pots used with that kind of bracket before.

I know this is completely random but I just found your channel and the first thing that came to mind was...omg, she resembles Eloise from Bridgerton... seriously though, beautiful job.
Changing your accessories every season to remain on trend is expensive, wasteful and bad for the planet. How about timeless, classic and long lasting instead?
Rather than lugging things into the house for weather or off-season, how about a deck box? Some of them even double as seating when you put a cushion on top, or act as a table surface.
Did the beautiful big palm survive or blanch from heat shock? I predict it will need daily watering and lots of misting... It might help to layer a couple of smaller flowering pots, sitting on the dirt around the trunk, to help keep slow the moisture from evaporating.
Are you a big brimmed hat girl? I bet it would be cute, and you could shade your shoulders from sunburn :)

I love what you did to the space! I’m a bit aghast at how high this family placed their patio walls on both sides of their property. I’m sure there’s a story behind that decision, but it makes their space extra hot because it cuts off any air flow, and with no shade back there, it’s gonna be super hot and uncomfortable. I think if they didn’t want to lower the partitions, they might add some cut-outs in the walls for added air flow. Then they could actually enjoy all your beautiful decor and design back there!
This turned out beautifully. I don't think the couple understood the lanterns were solar powered lights. So happy you showed the patio at night. The lanterns looked stunning lighting up the lower level and the back area of the couch. I couldn't envision that. Thought they might be too big, but not at all! Your sunburn showed by the time you got to the plant wall! Hope you are okay and don't like to sleep on your back! I am south of the border so not sure how hot it was, but obviously it was HOT. One question. Since the kitchen is next to the sliding door, why isn't the dining area on the upper level and the seating area on the lower level? I know you have a reason. Another great job!

With backyards that close together, how can it be practical to watch movies out there? You'd constantly be flooded with the neighbours' lights and they wouldn't want to listen to whatever you're watching.. not to mention how buggy it gets in toronto at night! gonna be a pass for me on this one.

With those high temperatures and the little kid, I don't think it's a good idea to put a metal table. I once got a nasty burn and in wasn't that hot.
