      +DankTech Usa dbrand make the skins. They do what they want.

    • @allyouneed71

      +DankTech Usa it not real carbon fiber (WAY TO EXPENSIVE), just the pattern, and they use die..:I clipped this from their (DBrand) web site:. "Our textured carbon fiber skins reflect the light dynamically and are designed to replicate real carbon fiber.

      +Pyroblock (SPG) You know what, I agree with those people. I get that DBrand supplies the phones and I'm not saying anything against them, but man if I want to watch a phone review it's better to see the actual damn thing that's gonna come to my house. I would prefer they do the shots in stock and then skinning it and showing it off while sponsoring DBrand. But anyway, they're companies and have certain relationships so... we have to accept their decisions.

    I heard from quite a few reviewers that the camera is a bit disappointing for the price. But let me add: a 4K screen with an >800 ppi is wonderful for VR

      +HannosWelt | @HennoeR I doubt most VR applications would run very well @ 4k on a phone, unfortunately

      +maciozo
      The 4k screen on this device just run with the proprietary driver from Sony.
      Which at least now just Sony can use.
      So like all applications on this device are scaled up.
      VR Apps are no exception.
      (The Sony Apps run at 4k, but that's all)

  • @dstarr3

    So we have 4K phones now. Why is it exactly that we don't have a decent 24" 4K monitor for a reasonable price then?

    • @Benedictus899
      @Benedictus899 8 лет назад +19

      +Dave Starr What's "reasonably priced" to you? There are 4k 24" monitors for $400.
      Also, I'm not sure if you're aware, but it costs more to make a 24" monitor than a 5" smartphone screen

    • @k__k___
      @k__k___ 8 лет назад +85

      +Baruch Tinkov No it doesn't buddy. Getting so many pixels so densely packed together creates a world of problems with signal switching and color blending. Its a fucking miracle it is even possible in 5".

    • @Benedictus899
      @Benedictus899 8 лет назад +15

      Nyro Cross It does, buddy.
      The problem with larger panels is there's a standard to how many defective pixels can be on a panel or in a certain area of it. This means that any panel at the manufacturing stage that has more defective pixels than acceptable is getting scrapped, and scrapping a 24" sheet is more expensive to the manufacturer than scrapping a 5" sheet - which in turn leads to increased prices of larger screens. If you look at the policies of different manufacturers, you'll also find that some allow more defective pixels on larger panels than on smaller ones.

    • @NeXtdra42
      @NeXtdra42 8 лет назад

      +Baruch Tinkov you're absolutely correct. Too many are malinformed

    • @Benedictus899
      @Benedictus899 8 лет назад +2

      ***** Why is that directed at me? OP wrote "decent 24" 4K monitor for a reasonable price", I didn't see him write any spec other than the monitor being 24" and 4K resolution.
      ***** No, my argument is that there is a rather high percentage of failure when producing panels. One of the main reasons of the increased price is that the manufacturer has to scrap a very sizeable amount of material when making a larger panel when compared to a smaller one.
      A few years ago manufacturers moved to a newer manufacturing process of LCDs which significantly lowered the failure rate and in turn led to a sharp decrease in prices
      If you take a 4K 24" panel vs a 4K 5" panel, the 24" one will be more expensive - Not proportionally, but still more expensive.

    It has an FM radio....
    So long as your carrier doesn't *freakin'* disable it.
    Virtually all phones have some sort of FM receiver chip; it's required for most cellular chips to have it integrated. Why can't we use them? Phone carriers want us to use our data to stream music, instead of listening to free FM radio.
    _Still bitter from my VZW LG G4..._

    • @Swedaz.
      @Swedaz. 8 лет назад

      Well, i got a sony acro s carrier free, and the fm radio on that worked fine, i justed wished every phone could have it, because it IS a really good accesory indeed if you run out of data and cant use spotify.
      Shame on phone producers nowadays for disableing it :(

    • @LazerLord10

      It's not the producers, but the service providers (AT&T, Verizon, etc.). If you buy your phone through one of them, be it on contract or not, the FM chip will likely be firmware disabled.

      @hunterbowie8132 8 лет назад +1

      +Rokupix Ruiqi They probably won't be much better. The problem is how batteries work. You see the basic design of a battery is two pieces of metal with a non conductive material in between. Now you might think to yourself alright let's just make the metal and other material thinner so we can squeeze more in. The problem is if you put the strip too close electricity can jump from plate to plate, shorting put the battery. As far as I am aware no one has been able to overcome this issue yet. Even companies like tesla. come up with a better design and you'll be a billionare.

    • @Resengan21

    • @TheVieneses
      @TheVieneses 8 лет назад

      +Hunter Bowie it's not that hard, they can take notes of non-polarized electrical capacitors, they can use the same principle of that, put some bronze or even gold, add a layer of space gel, or the same materials they use for capacitors, put them as close as possible (test required to arithmetic formula) and you can improve the charging, as well as the capacity of Amperes it can handle, at least 10A in the thick of an iPhone, reduce the battery stress with software improvements, and there you go, battery for days

      I haven't seen anybody in the so called "PC mustard race" that has a decent system to be "mustard race" I mean, they do it on a budget, but still, no one has my PC specs, which are:
      Intel Itanium 9560, which is about 5000 dollars
      A couple Nvidia Quadro's K6000 12 gigs, I don't really know the price of these now
      256 Gigs (x2 128) of DDR4 memory
      And a WD 4 TB HDD
      I don't really have a SSD, mostly because of lack of memory for storage, anyway, i also have a SuperFlower 2000W platinum-rated PSU because running this beast is hard. So I'm the PC Mustard race, King, also because Y'know, this system costs about 50 grand

      +Davemejh but those quadros aren't going to do too well in gaming, and the itanium 9560 doesn't perform nearly as good in gaming as an i5. Although you are the king in having an insanely expensive and yes, very functional machine (for gaming) you have got a very unfunctional gaming rig, which is the real POINT of PC Master Race.

    I'm a long time consumer of Sony products and as usual, bought the Xperia Z5 Premium at launch. One morning the phone died itself as I woke up and tried turning the screen on, it was just getting hot, tried the charger cable and everything no response. Went furiously to the showroom where I purchased it and they directed me to go to a service Center, the phone was only 10 days old! 10 days!
    The service Center guys diagnosed initially and concluded that it could be a manufacturer's issue, I immediately asked the set to be replaced and they informed me that they have 7 days replacement policy and wanted me to have the set given to them to diagnose further to conclude a result, I told them strictly to not open up the set, whatever they want to do, do it without opening and replace the set.
    After 5 days of intense hell of calling and checking up and visiting the service Center, they finally informed me that they will replace the set with a new box packed one by Sunday as they don't have it in stock as the model is new.
    This experience really left a sour taste...

    The plan for 4K in Marshmallow is to provide it as an optional mode that applications have to opt into. So everything winds up being at 1080p except things that actually have 4K content to provide.
    I guess you could say the 4K provides one huge advantage - VR is gonna be pretty sweet on this.

    The reason you didn't notice any scaling or sharpening is because 1080p is an exact division of 4k. That's why it's not scaled to 1440p, which Android does support. No exact division = blurry scaling on LCDs, thus Linus's complaints about non-native resolutions. And even though it is indeed useless most of the time it does technically result in sharper pixels to use a 4k display downscaled to 1080p, or more accurately a pixel doubled 1080p display.

  • @ergindemir7366
    @ergindemir7366 7 лет назад

    I think Sony made a great choice by dynamically adjusting the resolution.
    You only need resolutions higher than FHD for photo and video.
    For all other apps FHD is more than enough. By adjusting the resolution dynamically you also save a lot of battery power, so it's like the display equivalent of the turbo boost.
    Even if the future editions of Android will handle the higher resolutions perfectly, the dynamic resolution technology won't disappear, on the contrary it will spread more widely, because there will be much more phones with UHD.
    I agree that rescaling lcd displays make the text more blurry, except when it is done by integer factors, like 1:2 or 1:3, so it's not a problem for this phone.

    I feel like this was not exactly fair. I don't know this phone's price, but it's in the range of the Note 5 here in the Middle East. And you basically recommended the Note 5 for its great Screen, software, great camera and good battery life. The Z5 has a good screen, near stock android software, also a great camera, better battery life, front facing speakers and a micro sd card slot. So, if the price is right in Canada/US, I don't see a problem recommending this.

    The bluntest thing Linus points out is the lack of differentiation. I hate the stagnation of the market with the flood of slabs. I want some unique innovation. I want more Razr M types of devices, where the design is not simply a metal build, but the build is genuinely made to improve durability, besides just "feeling" premium. I want more phones like the Kyocera Echo, that eschews modern trends, and pushes a more robust power user experience, with dual displays to actually take advantage of things like Android N's supposed multitasking support. I want the return of physical keyboard sliders, in their varieties, to provide unique head-turning design and functionality like the Motorola Flipout.
    And these things need modern specs. SD800s, 2+ GB of RAM, big batteries, strong cameras, and good screens. We get it. Your Galaxy S6 has a slightly faster processor now compared to the S5, but what does it do versus that LG G4? Oh, it's got more glass! Cool! I'll be sure to get a case that keeps that pristine for all the money I spent on it.
    The early days of Android were like the Wild West of smartphones, man. Let's see a renaissance come around and evolve the smartphone into an actual powerhouse.

    Samsung, LG, Apple, Motorola, and HTC all need some kind of motivation to give us better batteries in our phones, and I believe this was one of those "kickstart" products. Almost like Apple and Touch ID. I remember when they released the 5s and everyone was so confused about why it was needed, and now a con of a phone is the lack of a fingerprint sensor.

    A battery that is as light as current phones but lasts twice as long would be a selling feature, I'd imagine. One reason I don't want to get a newer phone is because of battery life. I get this phone with all the bells and whistles and all it does is die after 4-6 hours of use. I'd rather just have a phone for calls and texting and occasional web browsing for a cheaper price without the bells and whistles I wouldn't be able to use anyway. If they made a battery that would last long enough to use all the features of a phone constantly, and not run out that quickly, and not be that much heavier, that'd be a selling point for me. It's not like I don't want the bells and whistles, it's just a matter of not running out of battery.

    The standard Z5 imo is the best out of the Z5 range. The compact feels too small and the premium's screen kills it. The normal Z5 is 1080 keeping more battery life and has a big enough battery for about 30 hours of use +/- stamina mode.
