I am hoping to top post this comment: You all want to know which device has the best display and you want my rating. Here is my answer - NOTHING is THE BEST! Each display has goods and bads. Each display has its own attributes that make it WORTH WHILE. I don't give a rating because that is NONSENSE. LCD has its own advantages and so does amoled. As far as LCD displays go, this is one of the best BUT, it doesn't get very bright and I don't care for Sony's calibration. You all need to FORGET ABOUT what is THE BEST display. It doesn't exist! All that matters is what I show you so that you can form your OWN OPINION. Sorry for the caps lol. I was emphasizing.
every year phones get develope .. perfection cannot be reached in this situation becouse what we see now is looks to be perfect 8 years ago which never hear about 4k display or those which was happy for buying the prand new nokia n7

People here talk and complain about Sony's 4k,but if Samsung done that first that would be top news in world and would be good idea. Pffff
Rather, I've seen reviewers of Sony, when this came out, say "does anyone really need a 4K screen on a phone?", then when they made subsequent phones back to 1080p, they were all "the screen is only Full HD though". Basically Sony can't win when half the 'unbiased' reviewers are paid up by crApple or Samsung.
Those people they know nothing about engeniering the jus pey a name as you said befor if that option was on Samsung or Apple it well the best idea in the exsist

actually the finger print sensor is awesome, when calibrating just make sure you try to scan a wide range of your finger. if you just keep tapping in the same place it will only register that. i noticed that i just had to remember the specific placement of my thumb in order for it to work. otherwise the sensor work perfect just a bit of tweaking.
gagongflip389 I agree...when I get read errors it's because I placed a part of my thumb on the sensor that I didn't scan during the initial setup.

Really love the design of the Z5. The design of the Sony Z devices have transitioned well. The Z5 really looks marvelous.
The thing about 4k display is that it's really not meant for phones, not even phablets. maybe for bigger tablets like ipad pro etc. Sony phones are really underrated. Also them leaving quick charge is a weird thing /: even tho their phones last longer but still. Great in depth review, sis 😆👌 kudos to dbrand robots too

Vedang P the z5 does NOT have quick charging but the z5 compact has. Because my friend has z5 and she tried my quick charger and it doesn't have that feature.
After the 5.1.1 update yesterday the fingerprint scanner is amazing! Super fast and it works a lot better!

You didn't turn the adaptive brightness off, if u turn it off, you will be able to understand how bright it looks. And it's fingerprint sensor is just perfect, faster than galaxy s7. Yes if u dip it inside the water for a long period of time, then primarily it's fingerprint sensor will not respond, but after a few seconds it will respond once u clean it up. And after the camera update for z5 premium, z5 premium is able to record 4k videos upto 53 mins, without heating up tremendously, but warming up
where is the adaptive brightness setting sir?

Underneath the settings option, go to display and then you'll find adaptive brightness option which can be turned off to experience the actual brightness and quality of the display.

I think 4k is cool. Even if you don't have a 4k screen.
Too be honest it's already retina meaning no point in adding more pixels 600ppi is insane anyway unless you have your phone 2inches from your face 5i

one of the best phones I've used in my life, the finger print sensor works perfect for me, display awesome, performance excellence, picture quality is good everything about this phone is perfect 👌
The heating problem is because of that 810 processor.

I'm quite surprised with the heating she mentioned. I own the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact and it doesn't heat up any more than a Snapdragon 801 device. Given the bigger footprint of the Premium, I thought it would be even cooler, but well, I guess it's a case by case thing.

Matthew M z5 premium is only 1080p 95% of the time so that can't be the reason why
Hunter Miller who knows. 1280vs720 on the z5 compact and 1920x1080 mode on the z5 premium could make such a difference lol.

Great review. I'm sad to hear the fingerprint scanner is hit or miss.
maybe its because of unusual shape, i mean look at I6,I6s,GS6,N6P,V10 etc they all has bigger scanner than this. mean that it will save bigger fingerprint, even though for unlocking it you only need smaller fingerprint....
+Laurensius Satya that could be the case. I think Sony might not have installed good scanning tech because Erica says the scanner works whenever she wiped it with a cloth.

Notice how when she used the finger print scanner with her thumb (like it's suppose to be used, that's why they put it their) it worked perfectly, but when she switched to her other finger it didn't work. so yea bad review on her part.

+Florba no.. if I'm a good kid I would already bought him one noe.i did buy him BlackBerry 8250 long time a go, but he just used it for few weeks after the phone got problem with the keypad. I couldn't manage to repair since its a preused item and the warranty has been voided since the first day I bought it. Then after I bought him a cheap Nokia phone just able make phone calls n message. But now he always being left to catch up with our family group members since mostly we contact each other through whatsapp. Huhu so I guess why not give it a shot huhu

+HermosaBeachJoe "always suck?" Are you on a 5-year-old Android phone? Current versions of iOS and Android are both very good. Neither "sucks." My HTC One M8 I bought 18 months ago is awesome, and my wife's new Nexus 6P running Marshmallow is even more awesome.

Moved to this from Samsung and I was very careful as all the comments of the overheating worried me. Guys really this is one of the most underrated mobiles in the world, it's a hardware monster and the overheating is unnoticeable (going into my 3rd month now)

I bought the black color.. I didn't feel any metal building quality.. I don't know why

Battery is the biggest problem in the world.. But I think it's good with normal use..

I work in the high end media, & I'd personally say that it will be at LEAST five years before 4K starts making it's move. AT LEAST. Full HD will still be a dominant platform for many many years, even when 4K does start to take over. Think of it as DVD Vs BluRay. BluRay is the dominant platform, or at least it is trying to be, but DVD is still the one that the masses have. It's down to money. 4K still costs a huge amount of cash to create content in the industry, films etc, as all the huge film cameras & tech are still Full HD, so it will take years for everything to be replaced...if totally ever.
The fingerprint scanner is awesome! You just have to make sure that you register your finger/thumb properly by scanning different parts so it will work more effectively.
Love the way Sony phones look. Simple and powerful. Wish I could feast my eyes on that 4K display someday!
I'm from UK and have owned my Z5 premium (the chrome one 😀) for about 2 months I don't have any fingerprint issues, the screen is amazing, it's a fast phone too it does not slow down like the Samsung phones do ethier lol, yes it does get a little warm at times but so do most other new smartphones, but I agree more 4K support is needed hopefully marshmallow will address this.

my friend took apart his Xperia z5 and removed water resistant membrane covering both speakers and now they sound great (he also lost warranty and water resistance but he is happy)
I've Sony walkman all in one earbuds witch come with water resistant eartips and they also sound muted

After watching your new video +Erica, is this your final conclusion for Xperia Z5 Premium? or there's a 2nd part?
By the way, the OIS in rear camera knocks the other flagship device's out there! also your lighting is somewhat warm? because when I watch this video in full screen the z5 Premium display is too much bluish (cool@10k kelvin). I hope that the Qualcomm is already patched the vulnerability found in their chipsets!
One of the best reviews of anything I've seen in a long time.
ive used the Z5p for 3 months and my verdict is - its a superb phone. very underrated. i don't have any issue whatsoever with the fingerprint sensor so i have no idea what the problem is. i dont experience any lags. pictures and videos are great! i personally think the brightness setting of this phone is insane, you just turn off the adaptive brightness level. i cant find a cons at the moment, which i find quite worrying lol.
It has a cool factor of 10. Stainless steel, and nice camera. But I’m still using my ol 2012 motoX so everything seems cool. I would take that in a heartbeat! Thanks for the vids!
Z5 Premium is a beast one of the most powerful phones ever made, sadly it is limited by the Snapdragon 810, but it still does handle all the rendering process so well, heating up a lil bit? doesn't matter it is worth it. No phone can compare to it's resolution and camera. If what you want is to be safe with hardware that doesn't put your phone to the test go buy samsumg, if you want a phone that exceeds the limits buy sony.

This phone deserve 820 snapdragon, i mean the size, 4k upscaling, the camera, and the design is gorgeous.
My fingerprint is very good. I also use z5preminum. One thing you need to notice is that you need to press your finger comprehensively rather than only one part when you are setting the fingerprint. since the senser is very small. If you do that it it would work just fine.

erica in order that the fingerprint will work properly you need first to press the power button and then place your finger to open the device

I have the Xperia Z5 (E6683) and you're right. Fingerprint scanner doesn't work sometimes unless I wipe it off. But it doesn't happen very often.

always nice to see your reviews, and yes you are all about screens.
The things is, the industry is not very happy about 4K video & is not a huge supporter of it yet. Only the TV manufacturers are really pushing 4K hoping that the industry will follow their lead, which they will over the next few years as it becomes more popular. But this phone is 4K 'READY', for when it DOES become common. This is the only phone that supports 4K, the others are lagging well behind until the media industry fully supports 4K. But Full HD 1080p is STILL by far, the industry's chosen platform. Be patient ;-)
I really didn't like this phone at first but after this video it kinda grew on me... also that dbrand stainless steel skin is going to look sick! :)

I love the idea of beautiful new displays, but I dont know if im ready to make the jump from my Nexus 5 until there is something that truly blows me away.
this screen makes a lot of sense when you are close to it, like in an oculus rift.
It must be pretty nice to watch content in that screen with G's cardboard or whatever. Even if the content is 720p, you would see the visual downgrade but still wont see the pixels that make the image in front of your eyes.

I have the Sony Z5 Compact and I am sorry to say that I have not expereince the same experience .besides the heating up sometimes ,this phone is excellent .but I enjoyed your video and how well you explained it . I have a question , Can I ask what kind of microphone are you using on your recording camera ? I have the same one as well, thanks
The phone is probably overheating because of that skin. I've tried two cases with a temperature app running. One heated the phone significantly, the other (Tudia) lowered the temperatures. The speakers are slightly quieter than other phones but produce really good quality. Also the sound quality is amazing with earbuds. I had the same issues with the fingerprint sensor but I think I just needs to be calibrated a certain way. Looking forward to the Marshmallow update. Subscribed!

The sensor works with one finger impressions not to two different fingers impressions to the same hand. Because it's different oblivious. So don't say that sometimes the sensor impressions don't work. Sorry.
And also rest of it when it comes to UHD. Im SW engineer focused on Android and Linux based STBs and been working with 4K capable devices. All of them do have options to set output mode to HDMI up to 4K. But on 4K UI is always upscaled 1080p to 4K. Personally, I think there's no need for 4K UI. And consider that rendering 4K UI all the time would have direct impact on CPU and GPU.
When it comes to Netflix, 4K will be distributed only to officially approved devices by Netflix. Maybe Z5 Premium is not on that list? :)
Finally, a complete good review of Xperia Z5 Premium. Thanks a lot. I would really like to have it (if it was not super expensive, student life)
My Z3V also had thermal overheating issues with 4k video setting too. I would use the gps for 30 minutes, get to my destination, and anything warmer than 85F, sunny summer day forget about it. I had to place the z3 in a cooler to lower its temperature before I could use 4k. imho they should make the case back out of aluminum so it can serve a functional role as a heatsink to help dissipate heat. IIRC glass generally is a thermal insulator. Other than that, it was a GREAT phone. I am a little disappointed though that Sony didn't address this.
The heating is wrong, because I remember when I bought mine I even recorded up to 30 minutes in 4K without heating as I have seen other people trying it out which is better than Samsung. And for brightness when I had mine for the first week I was so stressed about the brightness to then I realised you can adjust it in setting => display => tick adaptive brightness and it will get way more brighter and will be able to adjust the setting itself when indoor or outdoor.
i think 4K display on smartphone is the newest thing ever happened, sony came very earlier with this guy .On my observation 4K is going to be very popular but when they going to compare each other by different companies with good optimisation about visual quality and battery use .

For me 1080p is the sweet spot mainly because i value battery life 😀inhad note 5 , edge plus ,z5 and iphone 6 plus..i prefer 6 plus because of the battery and the display is sufficient for me
This phone is surprisingly cheap for its specification. In Australia, you can get this for $850 AUD from those online stores which is a lot cheaper than iPhones

I can't view 1,440 on X5 Premium on youtube, but they will play native 4K videos on the phone.
My XZ Premium will have the 4K setting in the videos. These phones were so ahead of their time.
I'm surprised to hear that the fingerprint sensor is hit and miss. z5 compact here, and the sensor is awesome. Thousands of unlocks and it is 100 %. The only time it might not work is wet or dirty fingertips. OR when I use part of the finger that wasn't scanned as part of the calibration. And to me that is great. I don't want it unlocking every time I touch it. I purposely only scanned certain parts of each of only three fingers. That way it stays locked when I check the time.
This smartphone is awesome, it is on the top of my list.
there is a ton of 4k content available to download, and you can always upscale 1080 video if you wnat.
