Stumbled on this channel by mistake. Awesome video.
I (as everyone else) only have a few remarks regarding the Z5. I (currently a user of Z1) would totally suggest you go and take a fresh look at the specs and then just re-edit the video with updated knowledge of Z5. Z5 doesn't have OIS it has SIS or DIS or SteadyShot (as Sony likes to call it). To shoot in 4k you need to go to the camera apps and choose 4k. Usually, as far as I have been able to test it (just note that I don't own Z5, a friend of mine does) it records superb and the SIS is out of this world (but these are just my thoughts). On the Z5 photo tips, please, just go to a forum or better yet, read what Sony's hired photographers say about how to handle the Z5. This phone is not for everybody. The S7 is. Its simple, point and shoot. You might not get the best, but it will be a bit better than the other smartphone cameras. The Z5 can only achieve its full glory if you know how to work it.
On the bright side, thanks for clarifying that pretty much todays smartphones are getting better and better in terms of camera compared to a DSLR. A real eye-opener. Superb job on the quality and whole video montage. You just got yourself a subscriber :)

+Zidane Zidane and what about the expandable storage, and the water proofing and the battery, and the gaming speed? O and the super beautiful screen. Anyways would you rather have both things in your hand than having just one thing with everything in it? But it was a great idea, although it is not that suitable

+Juanjose Suarezborras this year's edge 7 is ugly as crap irl. Looks good in photos. The edge 6 is more balance device.
1+3 would be my choice out the 2, simply for os. Shame cm had to go as that by far is my favorite rom. Touch wiz is getting better sgs5 was it's peak of badness, but still shitty on comparison to cm, stock, sense, sonys, then we get to touch wiz and LGs, then the miui, in that order.

It is a stupid comparison. As a Semi-pro Photographer, I would say to uneducated people that the sensor does the job. The censor in the cheapest DSLR is still APS-C which is like 20 times bigger so it catches more light and detail, so better performance in low light. Now the only phones with "bigger" sensors are NokiaView 808 which had 41.3 megapixel 1/1.2 in CMOS sensor, which is still the biggest sensor put in any phone, the downside of the phone was its operating system and the way it processed the JPEG.
The other bigger sensor on the phone market is Xiaomi Mi5 S (launched yesterday ) , which is 1/2.3, which is a lot smaller than the Nokia sensor but bigger than the rest of the phones.
But still they are way smaller than 1" sensors and way too smaller than APS-C sensor.
APS-C sensor is like a gold standard for the camera only if FULL FRAME sensor considered to be the Platinum standard lol
Shoot a full frame once and you'll see the difference. Now all haters gonna come up with something saying that the bulk of DSLR is bad. Buy a tiny Full frame camera like Sony RX line. fixed lens like in smartphone but way too beautiful pictures.

    • @jr4chargers
      @jr4chargers 8 лет назад

He made a comparison, because there's a lot of people out there that actually believe that phone cameras can reach the same quality as DSLR or Mirrorless.

    • @asherelkins9773
      @asherelkins9773 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah. I see that.
Anyway the best you can get from a phone is to buy an iPhone and DxO camera. So you'd get 1" inch sensor with 20 mpx, which is good overall for everyday usage.
They trick you with the aperture though. The f/1.8 is not the real f/1.8 on Full Frame. On full frame it would be really shallow, but you gotta consider the crop factor.
On APS-C you take f/1.8 x 1.5 = around 2.7. On 1" it was way above f4. F2.8 is generally good for portraits on Full Frames.

Is that so? The S6 could only do 5min if I remember correctly. Well the memory is going to be full pretty fast anyways. Also we are comparing a 400€ phone to a 750€ one, so it should be expected.

+Mikko Haavisto i have seen a couple of reviews showing the Z5 shutting down the camera during video after only a very short time , and it clearly is shown on the camera display " the camera is shutting down due to overheating " , do you find any problem like this or was it an isolated problem ??

    • @MikkoHaavisto1

The about 30 min limitation in mine is the overheating message as well. I guess it depends on the ambient temperature. Again, I don't know about Z5, because I have Z5 compact.

It does not have OIS vids look like it has but no. It also has 4K recording. Learn more about the device you are reviewing. Come on a bit more effort please.

yes the s7 has more pleasing images but that is because of all the in app processing
But as far as I understand, your video is about phones coming close to dslrs and if I want to use my dslr for a shot, I'd like to be the person doing the post production and so the Z5 gives me more natural images to work with!

Videos like this were about to make me believe that I did not need to buy a DSLR camera, however, I did get the D3300, and I couldn't be happier!! I stopped taking pictures with my phone a long time ago. Eventho this comparison doesn't show the strong points of the DSLR, as soon as you zoom in with any phone, the picture looks like a watercolor painting. If you're taking pictures of a moving subject, you'll most of the time get really blurry pictures. If you're thinking about buying a DSLR don't hesitate!

  • @armelind

I will start by saying I havent read all the comments so I dont know if this was said before.
I own the Galaxy S7 and a Nikon 3300 (not 3200 but very close in specs with similar kit lens). Even though the S7 is very clear and produces very saturated and "eye pleasing" high contrast photos and video, the DSLR photos & video will always be the better option if you want a better looking final product if you plan on doing some post production. The S7 image data does not contain enough information to change or alter the images to a high enough level to get truly Pro results. The DSLR will always get you closer, even the cheaper cameras. Galaxy S7 also produces RAW photos and I have edited them along side Nikon 3300 RAW images and the bit depth of S7 images dont allow for the same amount of editing when trying to create a "personalized" look.
I have no experience with the Xperia products in this review.
This is my experience with the 2 different cameras. And there is a big difference in quality when you get into the pixels.... but if you dont plan on going that deep into it, the images and video are comparable on a very basic and newbie level.

  • @basiliusprabawa
    @basiliusprabawa 8 лет назад

How come the D3200 pictures are really low contrast and desaturated? Did you use the Neutral/Portrait Picture Control? If so, switch to Standard or even Vivid, and try again.
While the S7 hands down wins over the Z5, the D3200 wipes the floor with the S7 when it comes to image *quality*. When it comes to how pretty the images are (which is a different thing from image *quality*), the S7 looks prettier because of the contrast.

With so much of the Z5 not done right, photos: auto? manual? default settings?. The 4K video part I understand as its hidden under camera apps within the camera options. Maybe the video should be pulled down while you redo the Z5 segments, re-edit and upload the new video.

The Z5 and the Canon have similar colour tones and quality that tells me one thing the Samsung is far from realistic or life like. You basically just prefer the warmer colours as a preference. We are all entitled to our opinions really, even the video quality i could see the same thing. I would rather a camera produce more life like images or quality in auto mode with an option to twerk to whatever white balance option i want in manual. The s7 post processing is way over the top in my opinion. Another thing test the stabilization of the video recording, i have seen other videos that show the z5 as truly the king of smartphone video recording.

i do have s7 and d3200 and there is no compare!!!everyone put ideal lighting and no zoom photos to make the comparison and confuse the audience!the d3200 has the biggest sensor so it's without a doubt the best cameras especially in low light!also why don't you put the photos in a pc and zoom a little to see what happens

@Darius K - z5 restricted to 1080p ? maybe you did not check the camera UI - its there just swipe
on camera Apps its there together with the other camera effects . Also Z5 does not have OIS - it has digital- it is called SteadyShot- if you had only seen how it works ! it blows out all phones with OIS !

No one seems to mention image editing. The flexibility from the 14bit raw camera images vs the highly compressed 8bit Jpegs is night and day. Yes these new phones might have some pretty good image processing software in them but nothing compares the results from a well edited raw file. That's where dedicated cameras hold their own.

not very fair comparison because the point of having dslr IS manual mode, restricting that doesn't do a justice at all, so you should make comparison - what is the best quality you could get out of each camera using all their available power and options. On the other hand this is useful video for average consumer who will just use automatic modes anyway.

On any camera, actioning a physical button, or touching the camera unit, can add vibration. A timer controlled, or remote control trigger might be better.
On my Samsung Galaxy s6, there is a very good voice command to start video or camera shooting. Voice activation is my preferred method.

If you're still happy with your phone, I don't see any good reason to replace it. If your 830 is still doing a great job and doesn't disappoint you, I think you better keep it for longer. That's just my opinion. But if you want a good camera to match the greatness of your 830, I'd say Sony can do that

My brother has the Galaxy S7 and I have the Z5 compact and we compared the camera performance. I have to say low light photos with the Galaxy S7 are pretty good while my Z5 compact gives some grainy and washed out low light shots. However, my Z5 compact captures a lot more detail and the color accuracy is way better in normal (day)light. The colors on the shots of the Galaxy S7 are over saturated. Both have their pros and cons.

You do not know how to use your D3200...
On a SLR camera you can adjust the settings a lot to achieve the desired result.
You will never get the quality of a DSLR with your smarthphones
The only advantage of the smartphone compared to a cheap DSLR is the video level (slow motion, 4k, 1080p to 60fps etc, face cam, focus and stabilization).
On the D3200 you have a lot of scene mode, which change colours and contrast them quickly.

I've been using my Z5 compact to shoot all my youtube videos so far! Ok it's not perfect, but I don't feel like I've outgrown it yet - the image stabilisation is really good, and I like the vivid colours, considering I already had it so didn't need to go and buy anything, I'm pretty happy with it. Still pictures blow away my old compact digital camera too! (Which actually is a Sony also!).
Not tried the 4k feature yet as I don't think my old laptop could handle the files!

It always annoys the crap out of me when reviewers say. "I used the settings right out of the box." WHY? The camera has a manual mode so you can capture the best images possible, and if you're comparing it to a dslr with adjustable settings, why not put out the best picture each thing can offer? The xperias shine on manual mode, same with the galaxies. It is just a waste of a video in my opinion.

Imho, any budget DSLR coupled with a good quality lens could beat all the current smartphones hands down. Especially in low light (/without flash) circumstances.
When it comes to image quality, I think lenses are the main element that make huge difference. Megapixels are good if you will print poster size images (or to crop images to fit your purposes).
Ps. 100 % crop would be more helpful in comparison of image qualities of photos.

The reason the S7's images are more visually appealing is because there over saturated that's why you prefer them, they pop out. The Z5 has much more realistic colours similar to the DSLR. This means the Z5 is clearly better. I don't get why all tech users are fanboying over the S7 its crap XD (My opinion)

im using s7 edge and im not trying to compare it to that but i guess we just had really high expectations for the z5, the 4k display isnt really a big deal since its only used when displaying 4k content. the waterproof is valuable to me personally but the camera was all that big a deal, there was some comparisons that didnt impress me too much. also battery life, maybe its gotten better now but a few months ago i hardbricked my phone and needed a new one and someone was selling the z5 for 400AUD and i didnt end up buying it cause of battery life
