    So two days ago i did an 1100 km round trip in a 2018 Colorado Z71 but back to that later. Today i test drove the LDV and it got a fair work out. Firstly i have owned a 2012 Ranger (best car ever) and a 2017 BT50 (with DPF) so no grand prize with that and let me tell you the LDV steering is NOT heavy and neither was the surprisingly nice brake pedal. Not much acceleration from standstill so i honestly didnt notice the turbo lag even though the salesman made comment on it when i took the car back. Wind noise at first seemed a bit excessive but held its own up to 160 kmh (private road of course). The car/truck sat very stable at a constant 130kmh. The Power was striking especially for a brand new engine obviously not run in until today :) The engine was rather rattly whilst cold but sounded solid when up to temp. Quick points, no rattles, nice ride, nice handling and stability, nice ergonomics, average seats, fit and finish quite good. Needs steering reach. Before i get back to the Colorado, i own a Colorado x cab 6spd Man 2.5D 2wd (not the same eng as here) in Thailand with 20k on the clock (that ute gets 1300km to a tank, and goes like a cut cat, i shit you not) Anyhow i read the comments below and seen the LDV has many GM parts as Saic made most parts for the Colorado. So here is my overall take on the LDV. If in Australia the LDV was badged as the NEW Colorado most scribes etc would be fawning over this pretty good ute. It drives and feels very much like an updated Colorado.

    3:40 GVM 3050kg, GCM 6050kg. 3 tonne tow rating and still have 935kg payload in the Pro model. Motoring journalists need to do their homework.

    Good review! I did laugh about the brake pedal, wait until you’re towing.. 😅
    Lot of fun these things though! Worth it so far.

    What was not mentioned is the fuel economy. I permanently tow a 1.7T excavator, total 2T and besides the power and torque, which is excellent I average 11.5 Ltrs per 100k. This is savings heaps against my old Triton which was very thirsty when towing. I don’t like the lag down low but I’ve been told how to fix this and soon will. Overall I’m very happy with my purchase and the money I saved and am still saving.

    I want to know who makes the rest of the driveline? Not sure if I'm ready to trust a Chinese engine and diff / transfer case

    • @robdobson726
      @robdobson726 2 года назад +5

      It’s a zf trans, borg Warner transfer case and Eaton diff. The new 2L engine is developed in house but was developed by saic and GM. And I don’t know how common this knowledge is but the rest of the parts are compatible with holden Colorado parts because saic made most of the parts for the Colorado. Thailand build the motor and assembled the rest with parts built at GM China (saic motor)

      Dude. Even GM is rebadging the t60 as their own in smaller markets like Latin America.
      It may be made of harder plastic but it's all there.

    For the few thousand difference don’t understand why folks with any sense would buy this dodgy vehicle,over a real truck. I like watching used car adds where you can buy one of these less than a year old for lessmthanm$30K lol. Save $3k on purchase price and see $20k depreciation in first year LOL

      i have a gwm cannon x myself. just thought i'd come here to laugh at you and say keep telling yourself that and enjoy your 20k more expensive ute.
      For a 45k ute (cannon x) with a 5 star ancap rating, 7 yr unlimited km, and all the modern tech bells and whistles you could asked for. i'd picked the cannon all day over a ranger or a hilux that is 20k more expensive.
      stop dreaming about resell price, the market is now too saturated. I can resell mine for 30k after 3 years, and im more than happy for that.

      @@christopherholden2704 GM/Saic engine, ZF transmission, Borg worner diff. Keep telling yourself these cars are "cheap chinese" when it does everything a $70k Ute does.

      Why is it dodgy?
      How is your Ford ranger plastic Thailand any less dodgier?

      @christopherholden2704 Source for the claim ? All's I see is a dude who spent an extra $25k to get in a base model Toyota
