from what i have seen, read in facebook groups etc. and from my own experience owing one. I have the feeling they are actually one of the most reliable dual cab utes on the market at the moment. definetly more reliable than the ranger. And although yes it would be nice to have more power, it still gets the job done just fine with its current powerplant in my experience. I have never felt like it needs to accelerate any faster while driving normally around town etc. its not designed to be a race car. I towed a caravan around australia, and i had no issues at all. Its just that as humans we always expect more and more power, we can never be content with what we have. When you say it needs more power, you also need to clarify why. For instance you can ask, Can it climb a hill offroad with its current power - Yes. Can it drive along the road anywhere at the posted speed limit - Yes. Can it tow 3000kg at highway speeds - Yes. Does it have good fuel economy because of its smaller engine - yes. So the needing more power is only based on your specific requirements for the vehicle. for instance, if you ask, do you need to accelerate to 100 in less than 10 seconds for whatever reason? And the answer is yes, then you will need more power. If you know what i mean. Its all about what you need it to do, and can it do it.

Yes I agree. I've always loved power but my cannon x for me is enough, It does get the job done in all scenarios thanks in a big way I feel to the very sorted 8 speed tranny. I tow a work trailer and is fine, I go camping, offroading in it and it has exceeded my expectations without any mods, Has shown up a lot of other makes at the 4x4 parks I visit surprising many. You get a lot of negative comments about Japanese utes being so much better etc etc. We have 2 Cannons, 2 Isuzu DMAX single cabs and a DMax Double cab. The 2 GWMs have not had 1 single issue while the Dmaxs had a few small problems already.
All our vehicles work hard. These Cannons are not better than Japanese utes but they don't seem to be worse in any way in our experience.... Just way cheaper to own

I don’t have any reason to argue with you, and I’m hoping this proves true. But I do wonder about longevity. Something I learned studying quality at university is that it is never an accident. Every single part of the design, manufacturing, and maintenance program needs to have quality in mind and be measured. Cutting corners doesn’t show up instantly. e.g. using plastic for some engine parts, using lower quality or thinner steel, etc.
At this point I would plan to sell after 6 years so the new owner still has warranty. But if they prove themselves, I would happily hold onto one for longer.
Personally I have a 2019 MU-X. I’m planning to hold onto this for about another 10 years, then switch to an electric ute that is (hopefully) using the next generation of battery tech (lasts longer, less/no fire risk).
I also hoping Aus starts manufacturing cars again. With electric, all the environmental, engine, and transmission complexity is gone. Waaaaay less moving parts. With all the new AI and robotics advances, I really can see what’s holding us back.
But back on point. I’m not ruling out buying a future electric one of these trucks. Really liking what I’m seeing in this video.

    • @crown_tickford
      @crown_tickford Год назад +6

@@danhutchins3237 It isn't necessarily that things are cheaper to source and manufacture overseas, I'm not denying that it is a factor but it isn't the only one either. The Australian economy basically forces worker to ask for higher wages meaning we ask for more than the labor is really worth. I am not saying we are asking too much for our wages, what I am saying is it is our economy's fault that we aren't making cars and the faulty economy can be blamed on international issues and domestic ones.

I would not leave the diff lock on after passing the obstacle that 'required' it. Leaving it on is just bad driving, not a problem with TC which is telling you that you are abusing the system. Why didn't you test the off-road driving modes instead of assuming that the diff locks were required? There was no way you needed the rear diff locked over the rocks (27:00) and rock mode would have tailored the throttle response and TC accordingly. I know you know when to use diff locks, so it seems like you are manufacturing issues. I don't know how others see this as a balanced review when everything the car does well comes as a surprise to you. If that's not bias, then I don't know what is.

If GWM came out with a 500NM 2.0 and there was ANY sort of reliability issue the consequence in terms of reputation damage would be higher than for say Ford. From a marketing point of view, the potential long term consequence from failures would outweigh the short term wins from sales. They will get there, just look at Hyundai 15 odd years ago.
500NM from a 2.0 is still a big ask. That Ford engine must be running close to 30psi boost compared to 20-22 for some of the competitors with similar style engines (tech/design/materials).

    • @ydbc9709

In the power aspects, gwm is doing kinda like toyota style, pretty conservative compared to Ford. Engine in the cannon is code-named 4d20m with a single turbo, they once had a 4d20t with 2 turbos just like Ford's engine, but they only came out with 420NM. Even the bigger one in Shanhai Cannon which is the 4d24 2.4, only came out with 480NM, somewhat like the early factory toyota 2.8 and 3.0 style.

Also @carexpert I dont think its wise to tell people to put throttle mods on this as thats going to void that long warranty you get with this truck. Point is this truck isnt a racer, if you want that get a Amarok or Ranger, just be prepared to spend way more than this is asking for the pleasure. What this offers is a good offroader with decent fuel economy and tech to save you or hinder you depending how you use it.

As someone born in China, I would advise against considering products from LDV, as they seem to lack reliability. LDV is a sub-brand of SAIC Motor, a state-owned enterprise, and generally in China, products from private enterprises tend to be more competitive and reliable. Although MG has indeed improved vehicle reliability by reallocating a significant portion of its R&D resources to Shanghai, it's still not considered a top-tier brand in China. LDV vehicles hardly sell in the domestic market due to their weaker offerings compared to competitors, and MG also struggles with sales in China. Both brands under SAIC Motor largely rely on the Commonwealth markets to sustain. Currently, among the Chinese cars available in Australia, Great Wall Motors and BYD are considered top-tier brands. Personally, I purchased a Haval H6 in Australia.

So waited for this, absolutely smitten with GWM's 4WD products of late. They are mixing it with the more dominant brands, but are actually suppling the "I wants" desires to these off road buyers, and its certified from factory, Yes! It's not just a sticker package.
Query Paul, why expert mode when road driving?
Isn't it purely designed for off road use, ie. to tune the cross axle beam traction control to be still more responsive than on road traction control.
That's what I understand from watching Cannon owners reviews.

I ended up buying a Used BT-50 for two reasons. Incredibly poor after market service and support for these vehicles.
