An interesting test you should consider adding is a repeated brake test to see how brake fade affects the performance. A vehicle that brakes well once may not continue to brake well after repeated hard brake applications in short succession, such as when coming down a mountain range

@@calebwany8422 hard to say that if the new hilux isnt even out yet. We’ve owned multiple toyota and isuzus in our family and by experience, the isuzus had more issues come by. But we like both.
Rough Terrain mode was available already in the MUX but i think it is not usable when the rear diff lock was on in your SUV comparison video. I have the MUX but I dont remember trying both at the same time. If you can turn on both at the same time in the 2024 Dmax....thats a new feature! Hopefully, it's an easy software update for the 21-23 MUX.
Here in Europe it comes with a 1.9L Turbo. The Navara and L200 (Triton) aren't available, the Ranger and Amarok come with a 2L engine with a wet belt. Huge pass. Would stick with the ancient Hilux, with the 2.4L engine.
The 1.9 engine is proven reliable, plenty of them with over 300.000ks in Thailand and Asia, plus it uses less fuel than the hilux and costs like 7.000euros less..
Hi Paul, some other interesting points to add are the low range crawl ratio and also the engine rpm at 120 km/h. Also make sure about the traction control being switched off in low range when switching the diff lock on and as most modern bakkies keep this on to aid the front wheel traction. Even the hilux has snuck this feature in quietly.
Ive an early 2024 Dmax (pre upgrade). Hate the piano black, it’s just a dust attracter. Have they upgraded rear camera resolution? Also the front collision alert? It’s so sensitive! Bluetooth phone is also pretty poor, one of the worst qualities I’ve had. They also need to “up tune” it, I had to add a throttle controller as it was so lazy. Makes a world of difference. However, I tow 2000 kegs regularly and do about 70,000ks a year (done 54,000 so far) and tows without effort and very comfortable. Just seems they have so much more potential in the tune.
I’ve got the new one. The new interior is better but does attract dust to some extent. The whole driver aid stuff is not only a total pain in the ass, it’s still a genuine hazard and Isuzu don’t care. It’s a box ticking exercise for ANCAP and nothing else. The throttle is fine now but the transmission shift and lock up strategy is worse IMO. There’s a couple of tuners in the eastern states now offering a TCM remap though. Hope that helps 😊
The camera resolution is better and also collision alert.. But a 360 camera would have been better ! then the front could be used going down steep hills.
@@zorgle201 I went with the pedal box. There is a channel called “video show me how” who has done a heap of upgrades on his Dmax. He reviews it in one of those and I bought it on the back of his review.

I personally like the exterior on the older models more but the electronical aswell as the new features are better . Since my dad did not get a 4x4 option we wont experience much heavy off roading . But we went on a offroading track Test recently and it performed really well compared to 4x4s . But I would love to hear your opinion on my take.
Just putting it out there. Hopefully the new model has changed, but the centre console under the aircon controls, has a gap at the edge closest to gear shift lever, which in our case we almost lost a wedding ring, due to a usual "swipe up" motion with hand when grabbing something like a card for example. The ring was pushed through this gap, somehow ended up sitting jammed between a piece of carpet and a wire. Was a "last chance before giving up" decision to pry open the console plastics, and with a torch, found it deep back toward the engine bay. Coins or anything that has a thing flatl surface will disappear easily.
Can you please consider putting " the average or median" DB & braking distance and 0-100 results by car relevant segment, in the graphic when display those results by during video. Thanks
The isuzu uses its truck tech, you look at their truck sales, they dominate the light to meduim market over the past 20 to 30 years. This is the 3 ltr from their light truck. I guess if you want something thats not too big to park and looks good and has satisfactory tech and safety and liability this is a good pick.
although you did say they fixed the bump steer issues, looking at the steering wheel on the rougher roads I can tell its still there. To me its all just cosmetic upgrades and my run with a 22 mazda dmax is enough to put me off getting another dmax
It doesn't seem worth it to only go to 35s. If you have to do more than a leveling kit to fit a tire why limit yourself to a tire size that you can get from the factory on a lot of vehicles? The OEM tires on my tow vehicle are 32s (225/70R19.5) and I could bolt 35s (285/70R19.5) on with no modifications other than different width wheels.
I’d have to fit an engine immobiliser. If you’re working from the ute and cant keep keys in your pocket, you can’t hide the key in the car as it will still start. I’s also prefer two doors and a manual transmission.
Paul thanks for the review and the improvements with the D-Max. Can you please confirm if they have fixed the bump steer problems with the new D-Max and MUX?
he said they have. speaking to a few people about this the bump steer issue is still there, izusu are just giving different alignment specs to hide the tyre wear. If you watch the video you can see the steering wheel moving every time they hit a bump. definitely still there from what I can see on the video
Can't understand why car makers love black shinny plastic in the inside. Should be a silver/gray perhaps so it doesn't show the dirt and scratches. I wonder if the "bump steer " issue gives weight to the class action against Isuzu ?
Test driving both the Dmax and the Mux back in 2021 I didn’t like how sluggish it was off the mark and the overall throttle response was a problem. Ended up with the Hilux which I found punchier. Has this changed/ improved at all?
Replace the tub “sports bar” with something useful. I’ve a 2023 XT and the Sports Bar and side steps are visual and for city people. Just purchased another DMax but mid level with a canopy (wife has the XT) went with another 2023 as dealers are making room for the 2024 models, so saved a few $k. My biggest issue with new vehicles is their “safety” technology. It literally makes them LESS safe! Automatic braking because the vehicle “thinks” you’re going to have a collision? How about I make that decision. When my new DMax arrives, I’ll be removing most of the “safety” features.
I would spend a little more for the the ranger, much more premium but the prices just shot through the roof, but at least you get led lights and indicators, unlike Toyota and Mitsubishi
Out of all the concerns and features that have an impact on the experience of driving and owning a ute, you single out led lights as your main worry. Okay...
@@I_watch_youtube. Allow me to apologise lol. When I commented I think I missed where you first said the Ranger is more premium, which it is, so then for me it was like the LED thing came out of nowhere. I had the image in my head of a guy at a dealership saying "This ticks all the boxes for what I need, but if there's no LEDs then there's no deal"
Companies probably fix the issues, but don't actually advertise the fact they have, otherwise it would be an acknowledgement that there was a problem in the first place. Like Hilux and their DPF and 5th injector issues.
they changed the wheel alignment specs to scrub out the tyres to hide the tyre wear issue. now instead of destroyed inside of tyre wear at 10,000kms you get entire tyre scrubbed out at just over 40,000kms as izusu say a tyre shouldn't really be lasting past 40k
@@liaminrio5463 lol what a special Muppet.... I agree more points and led lighting in the tub would be nice.. but there is a lot of aftermarket gear that can do that.
Thanks for the review. Any idea if the infotainment and digital display updates are going to the MuX yet? They were a disappointment when I recently test drove one. Also, the off centre rear camera was annoying.
Hi Paul, I actually like the Mitsubishi Triton but there’s no way in the world. I would buy a twin turbo diesel if you can’t get enough grunt out of it just put a bigger diesel in it I don’t understand why they would go that way all it is cause more drama. Anyway that’s my opinion probably doesn’t count for much I’m an ex-truckdriver.
I'll say it again, when you do mid life update reviews on cars please do side by side comparisons of the headlights, bumpers, interiors etc so people can see the difference between old and new. Just saying oh it's got a new design isn't helping anyone
if you ask izusu they will say yes, if you look at the suspension/steering geometry its identical to the previous model so unchanged. If you look at the video you can see the bump steer every time they hit a bump the steering wheel moves. definitely still there
The triton is better for comfort , it is also better offroad , look at car sales. Au offroad test, where he compared the Triton, this new dmax , bt 50 and ranger. Car expert botched the triton review, Paul didn't understand how the drive modes work
I like it better with the rear drums. Pls don't ask Isuzu to sht on it or at the very least, make it drum-in-disc if they were to go the disc brake path.
It's a whole lot of price for 30k in actual frame, engine & drivetrain, meanwhile the rest went into tiny expensive electronics and materials. If you asked me I think 20k just dissapeared into nothing. It kinda reminds me of the millitary, for their known mark up price on regular materials, oh you have these 20 dollar rings? I'll give you 5 grand for em!
11:38 note the change in wheel angle as the front suspension compresses and extends over the bumps. That looks like bump-steer and something thatd contribute to tyre wear; how does this compare to other utes?
Do a search for Isuzu bump steer tyre wear and you’ll see they know about it. All they’ve changed is the alignment setting, no hardware changes have been made.
i don't understand why OEMs still using open-diffs or clutch-LSDs with all complicated traction system instead of the Wavetrac LSD or Quaife LSD that can do auto lock & auto torque balance precisely for both streets & off roading with less part & low maintenance cost?! traction system will become useless to those LSDs
Im concerned about not being 4WD on the bitumen, not as safe especially in the wet by my reckoning so this puts me off a Dmax or Mux as well compared to others such as Pajero Sport or a triton. Dont know why Isuzu dont step up a better transmission to attract more customers.
3-4 month waiting list though.. I ordered mine a month ago and still no updates. The remote start is what won me over after getting out of a 10 year old VF Ute that had that option.. its a godsend in Summer and Winter one cant go back to 40+ or 0 degree temps in the cabin ... ;) The wireless charging pad is actually available as an option but I'm not a fan as I had one on a hire car in the states and it basically cooked my phone as its always on and charging... And how is 130Kph the max ? Isn't there unlimited roads in the NT ?

@@calebwany8422 hard to say that if the new hilux isnt even out yet. We’ve owned multiple toyota and isuzus in our family and by experience, the isuzus had more issues come by. But we like both.

Its a 4month wait list so dont wait to long to order it.....
This is what the Dmax should’ve had when they release the new model
Rough Terrain mode was available already in the MUX but i think it is not usable when the rear diff lock was on in your SUV comparison video. I have the MUX but I dont remember trying both at the same time. If you can turn on both at the same time in the 2024 Dmax....thats a new feature! Hopefully, it's an easy software update for the 21-23 MUX.
Yes can confirm both can be turned on, there are other reviews on RUclips showing this.
It is usable with the rear diff locked, controls traction in the front axle in this instance.
Here in Europe it comes with a 1.9L Turbo. The Navara and L200 (Triton) aren't available, the Ranger and Amarok come with a 2L engine with a wet belt. Huge pass. Would stick with the ancient Hilux, with the 2.4L engine.
Good choice
Do you mean dmax 1.9L has 2 turbos?
The 1.9 engine is proven reliable, plenty of them with over 300.000ks in Thailand and Asia, plus it uses less fuel than the hilux and costs like 7.000euros less..
@@SILA1389 i would take the d max over the navara, triton, ranger and amarok, just not the hilux
@@port8565 yes, hilux is the best, but cost $$
Hi Paul, some other interesting points to add are the low range crawl ratio and also the engine rpm at 120 km/h. Also make sure about the traction control being switched off in low range when switching the diff lock on and as most modern bakkies keep this on to aid the front wheel traction. Even the hilux has snuck this feature in quietly.
love your reviews mate. I got my nx350h fsport based off your comments! and i looooooooooove it
Ive an early 2024 Dmax (pre upgrade).
What throttle controller did you go with?
I’ve got the new one. The new interior is better but does attract dust to some extent.
The whole driver aid stuff is not only a total pain in the ass, it’s still a genuine hazard and Isuzu don’t care. It’s a box ticking exercise for ANCAP and nothing else.
The throttle is fine now but the transmission shift and lock up strategy is worse IMO. There’s a couple of tuners in the eastern states now offering a TCM remap though. Hope that helps 😊
2000kegs? Thats a shit ton of beers ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Amazing updates and also being a great competitor against other Utes . My dad bought an 2023 3.0 td Isuzu d max v cross . And we managed to stage 1 tune it too 223hp and 514nm of torque . I personally like the exterior on the older models more but the electronical aswell as the new features are better . Since my dad did not get a 4x4 option we wont experience much heavy off roading . But we went on a offroading track Test recently and it performed really well compared to 4x4s . But I would love to hear your opinion on my take.
This car's ad was playing on prime during this T20 world cup.
My favourite ute in the world. 🎉
Thanks for the look
Check the engine oil if you get a dmax in any spec. Got mine and it was on the bottom of the dipstick.

I love all your reviews of the Utes. Can't wait to see the Kia Tasman review 👏🏼
In my opinion now the best looking Ute in the market.
Best ute on the market in my opinion
Just can't buy one cos bump steer is not fixed
Wish we could get these in the us !
although you did say they fixed the bump steer issues, looking at the steering wheel on the rougher roads I can tell its still there. To me its all just cosmetic upgrades and my run with a 22 mazda dmax is enough to put me off getting another dmax
This is why I hesitate to buy one. If they fix it, I'll buy one today
Paul can you tell me about the tyre problem I have been hearing about what is it and have they fixed it
Glad that I will buy a fully loaded Isuzu D-Max AT35.
AT35 ? If thats your age thats not a big deal.... Own your house at that age then we can talk....
Nice review, and nice shoes too Paul😃
Thanks I've been waiting for this one. I'm probably going to buy the XRider.
Its not much more for the X-Terrain..... thats what i ordered. The new Driveaway pricing makes it cheaper than some models below it.
I’d have to fit an engine immobiliser. If you’re working from the ute and cant keep keys in your pocket, you can’t hide the key in the car as it will still start.
I’s also prefer two doors and a manual transmission.
The noisy engine stopped me from buying one when they first came out, sad to see they haven’t refined it
soundproofing is better in the cab.. all diesels are noisy anyways..
Paul thanks for the review and the improvements with the D-Max. Can you please confirm if they have fixed the bump steer problems with the new D-Max and MUX?

Can't understand why car makers love black shinny plastic in the inside. Should be a silver/gray perhaps so it doesn't show the dirt and scratches. I wonder if the "bump steer " issue gives weight to the class action against Isuzu ?
Agreed, a dark grey in a matt finish would be far superior !
you didn't show the camera? is it the same or is it updated?

Okay...

What has Isuzu done to correct the bump steer issue in the DMAX and the MUX. Head in the sand stuff?
Companies probably fix the issues, but don't actually advertise the fact they have, otherwise it would be an acknowledgement that there was a problem in the first place. Like Hilux and their DPF and 5th injector issues.

they changed the wheel alignment specs to scrub out the tyres to hide the tyre wear issue. now instead of destroyed inside of tyre wear at 10,000kms you get entire tyre scrubbed out at just over 40,000kms as izusu say a tyre shouldn't really be lasting past 40k

Hi Paul, I actually like the Mitsubishi Triton but there’s no way in the world.

Have they fixed the bump steer?
if you ask izusu they will say yes, if you look at the suspension/steering geometry its identical to the previous model so unchanged. If you look at the video you can see the bump steer every time they hit a bump the steering wheel moves. definitely still there

Sir, between the Triton and the Dmax , which one do you think has the better ride in terms of comfort? Thanks.
The Triton has that annoying alert camera that keeps going off at night because it cant see your eyes properly !
The triton is better for comfort , it is also better offroad , look at car sales. Au offroad test, where he compared the Triton, this new dmax , bt 50 and ranger.

Any reviews for the 1.9L? Unfortunately we don't get the larger engine here. Am looking for a another pickup although my navara is holding up well :)
Would be beneficial to put the dimensions (W/L/H) on screen as well. Fine review otherwise.

Better for heavy towing and offraod.
I like it better with the rear drums. Pls don't ask Isuzu to sht on it or at the very least, make it drum-in-disc if they were to go the disc brake path.

I prefer the design of the previous model. People need to understand these are not cars.
Hmmmmm so why hasn’t the Ineos Grenedier Quartermaster been reviewed?
Im concerned about not being 4WD on the bitumen, not as safe especially in the wet by my reckoning so this puts me off a Dmax or Mux as well compared to others such as Pajero Sport or a triton. Dont know why Isuzu dont step up a better transmission to attract more customers.
3-4 month waiting list though.. I ordered mine a month ago and still no updates.
