Hunter IIF Training: Valve and Wiring Installation

- In this video we will show you how to install valves and how to wire them up to the controller.
Water flows through the Lateral Lines to irrigate a zone only when a valve receives an electrical signal from the controller via a wire. The controller is like the brain, the wires are like the nervous system and the valves are like the heart pumping water to zones keeping plant material alive and healthy - all these components working together are critical for an irrigation system. One of the best DIY videos I've ever seen. Thanks and Blessings!
Fantastic video! Thank you!
It’s crazy I just watched a whole video on something I’ve known how to do for a while. Haha.
Thank you
Nice work, didn’t realize it was that easy to wire a valve
It is!
Ive only done small electrical jobs but i never knew what the fiber was in the insulation. always pulled out the utility knife to strip it back. game changer
Glad it helped
We use PE pipe, which is flexible and doesn’t need to be glued. We also use dura fittings which are on o rings and screw together
Hello, very useful video thanks, i have a question, what is the max cable lenght recomended for valves? thanks and hope a sooner answer
To make it easier to remove the valve in the future, put unions on both sides of the valve. If there is only one when you thread the valve off you hit the pipe and either have to cut or dig up a bunch to flex the pipe out of you way.
Thank you for your input and watching!
that seems like a good idea, but i personally don't like having threaded PVC unions on the 24/7 pressure side of the valves, and find that having the union on the output side is all that is needed. Also, I like the slip PVC ball valve per valve idea for larger installs.
What do you do with the unused wires? How so you protect them from water etc?
Great video. Thanks!
Glad it helped
Thank you one of the best, it is very useful !!!
Glad it helped
what's a good awg size? 3 valves
Great video, thank you. I'm just wondering if this landscape fabric is waterproof. I google it and found some info that it's not waterproof so I'm not sure if that is okay for valves. I don't have much experiance but want to do a system for a small orchard.
Thanks for your comment! The fabric used in this video is Landscape Fabric. It is sold at all landscape distributors, Home Depot, and Lowes. This is not used to prevent water intrusion. It is used to prevent critter, root, and debris intrusion.
@@Hunter_Industries All right, I get you! thank you so much!
List of tools and supplies would be nice, like a link so I can purchase the the valves in this video
Thanks for watching. Please use this link to find a distributor in your region to purchase items used in the video.
So what would you recommend for trying together cleanly the ground wires from 10 valves. All them wires wrapped together tied to the controller is a mess. I'd like help making that connection look good and be sealed.
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
Your question is better handled over the phone. Please give us a phone call when you can be in front of the controller so we can help you review your current setting and make adjustments if necessary.
You can reach us at 1-800-733-2823 between 5:30 AM and 4:00 PM PST, Monday through Friday.

Look up how to pigtail wires.
Good video, runs should be blown out with water before heads installed to get rid of any sand or debris
What type of landscaping material is that?

Situation: I have a manifold setup for 3 zones. Meaning, 3 valves. All 3 are connected to the "common" wire of course. I just replaced two outer valves and left old one in the middle.
Question: If that middle valve with old solenoid is bad...would it also prohibit the 2 new ones from turning on from main control box (not to be confused with manually turning on)? Was thinking maybe so considering all 3 are connected via common wire.
Thx!
In a typical installation, there would be no impact on the rest of the system if just one solenoid wasn't operating properly.
@@Hunter_Industries Thank you my man. Very helpful. 👍
Damn i wish the previous owners of my house had been this tidy! My valves are buried in sand and the wires are definitely not in grease nuts
Thank you
I notice some irrigation valves are sticking out of the ground by about a foot above ground, while other jobs I see they have buried the valves in the ground in a plastic box. How do I decide which one I should I use. 1 valve is for a small sprinkler zone and the other 5 valves feed drip zones. your advice would be helpful. Larry
Thank you for contacting Technical Support
The application will determine which valves you select. The installation is up to you as a valve box is recommended for future access and service easily.

you should really be using pea gravel
Why don’t you use just a 4 zone manifold instead with unions ! Would eliminate all the hassle your going thru making one ? 😡
Each zone needs a valve of its own due to water pressure limitation.
Unions make future valve work a lot more pleasant.
