- A compilation of double headed steam trains across the UK mainline and preserved heritage railways, featuring 58 locomotives and 42 different combinations. Let me know what your favourite pairing was in the comment section below ! Footage captured between 2013 - 2019
I hope you enjoy the show ! Авто/Мото
I was miserable on steam's last day on the BR network. But little did we know of how good it would still be more than fifty years later!!!
Stephen Smith. Couldn't agree more!
Brilliant absolutely brilliant thanks, bring back more steam trains
You know how to bring tears to us old steam fireman and drivers, but there really was some brilliant sights. Kind Regards.
“Jesus wept”...... them pair steaming out of the mist at the beginning is truly amazing. I just wish my dad could have experienced RUclips to see what we see. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 71. He was a fireman out of Canton sheds Cardiff on Castles. Even after the age of steam he became a steel erector, but his true love until the day he died was steam..... give him an engine number and he would tell you what it was
I’m so sorry for your loss 😢
And also I hope your father has a good life in heaven, Amen
Absolutely fantastic combinations, I used to do trainspotting back in the 50s & 60s and seen some real good `double headers` but in many ways the views are much better today because you see combinations you would never have seen back in my day for instance you would never have seen a `mickey` and a standard tank in a combination and if you did it was probably because of mechanical trouble and don't forget also the engines today are maintained to a high standard whereas back in the 60s they were mostly in a poor condition and consequently could never fulfill their potential, one of the strangest combos was the pannier tank and a castle, that was a sight to behold, without doubt the BEST video I've seen by far.
Yeah camera was placed on their right in the corner. Sorry I ment left him lying back what was he told think of England? Don't take the blame for something that never happened.
Regards

10:50 So let me get this straight...
S160, N7, Maroon BSK, Pullman Mk1, a 3-car DMU, and the GWR Railmotor, all in a single train? I've seen some nutty consists in my time but this is something else entirely. I love it.
Ha ha ! Yes, it's absurd but we all love it !
And, with all that motive power someone still contrived a dramatic slip on starting. It takes real planning and skill to do that. I bet it was the S160 driver who did it. lol
11:35 It feels weird seeing an American steam engine used and modified for UK railways Lol. I love it, good work getting all of the footage!🔥
Great shots of beautifully double headed steam locomotives, set in wonderful surroundings. Yes in 1968 we thought steam was dead, how wrong we were!
A fabulous compilation, thanks Liam and Phil, and what a difficult challenge to name a favourite! Started off making copious notes but gave up with far too many contenders. In the end narrowed it down to two: GCR at 41:55 with the pairing in your opening still (I suspect they're high on your list too!) with the perfect location, pairing and overall visual aesthetic, then the two S160s at the front with the tank at the back (hard to say why but it just has the x-factor). Kind regards, Bob.
Another superb collection, brilliantly shot, superb sounds, great viewing, keep them coming MSV
Hard to tell after seeing some magnificent combinations of steam locos double heading together from 2 tank engines to 2 heavy express passenger engines bringing memories of combos that were seen in steam days & combos that were never seen before. I have to say hands down the best double header i've seen was at the end of this video with 6990 Whitherslack Hall & 6023 King Edward II on the 1 in 49 grade on the approach to Goathland last year. Great Vid. Richard
Absolutely spectacular!
Superb footage!!
Fabulous as always ...
My Favourite combination, “6990 Witherslack Hall & 6023 King Edward II”. Not only do these proud beasts look good together, providing a combination of power and poise, they are a bridge between Collett and Hawksworth at GWR. Their original development and ‘In Service’ history, then to be discarded by Beeching/BR, to rot in Barry. Thankfully, impossibly, by their subsequent rescue and committed restoration, our glimpses of steam traction today rests on the combined work and commitment of so many volunteers and enthusiasts. Thank you for your work in recording these magnificent sights.
The footage is impeccable! Great job. I could watch for hours!
absolutely brilliant
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARE!!!!!! GIOD JOB BOY!!!!!!!
C'mon let's face it every time a double headed tank engine train comes into shot it reminds you of Thomas the tank engine 😂...... The two on the main line going for it was just magical ♥ 👌
Double headed jubilees .. wow..absolutely brilliant
Spectacular collection love it
Thank you so much 😊

Beautiful video! Like! 👍👍👍
обалдеть !!! 6 лет работы, крутейшее видо !!! спасибо.
I must have seen myself at least 10 times. Epic stuff!
You must get about then ?
@@MarshSteamVideosTM Pres lines. Yes. I saw myself at Llangollen, the WSR, the NYMR and the SVR on this. I never do the main line, though. I won't give West Coast my money!
I think you're the only one looking for themselves.
@@Rog5446 I wasn't looking for myself but I knew which trains I was on and, most of the time, I'm in the front window so I'm hard to miss.
Absolutely wonderful compilation. Superb.
Jubilees are such handsome locos from any angle I always go to G.C.R. to see one
Another fantastic upload, thank you for sharing these videos.
MR ED YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT FANTASTIC MEANS, AND THE LACK OF ALL THE LOCO, LINES , LOCATIONS AND ACTUAL DATE DETAILS ARE CONSPICUOUS BY NOT BEING HERE. WITH NO PROPER BACKGROUND INFO LIKE THIS THE OTHERWISE VIDE IS TOTALLY RUINED AND SO NOT WORTH WATCHING UNLESS YOU WANT A LOT OFFRUSTRATION WITHOUT THE SAID INFO. SUCH DISGUSTINGLY POOR SHOWS AS THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON YOU TUBE. WHEN I HAVE DONE SHOWS ON LOCAL HISTORY, MUSIC AND QUIZZES FOR A LOCAL SOCIETY FOR PEOPLE OUT OF WORK AND WIITH MENTAL PROBLEMS, I WENT TO A GREAT DEAL OF TROUBLE TO DO A 200 % EXCELLENT JOB, GETTING A LOT OF PRAISE AND REQUESTS FOR LOTS MORE SHOWS AT VARIOUIS VENUES - A PITY THAT LAZY PRESENTERS LIKE ON HERE DO NOT LEARN THAT A THING WORTH DOING IS WORTH Y DOING PROPERLY AND SHOULD BE.
peter buckley why don’t you sod off!
@@peterbuckley265 Locomotives, location, railway and years are all stated in captions ! I don't have the time to make a documentary styled video, with added commentary as I have a full time job. Please let me know if you find a better video with this many locomotives on show which has been made available for free ! I'll be waiting.....
@@peterbuckley265 You must have a sad, sad life if all you care about is that. Get out and enjoy the sights and sound of steam, which is the real attraction. Who cares about specific dates?
Superb steam shots provs steam is supreme and still rules the raiils
Under BR it was often a Hall in front of a broken Hymek or Warship on western lines but if you got lucky a Warship double header. The rebuilt pulling an unrebuilt to an ancient Southern fan is an insult! No joking great video ta.
Lord Dowding and Scotty were magnificent.
Lord dowding is actually 34046 braunton in disguise
11:42 triple header
Nope, it's still a double header. Its only a triple header of another engine is coupled directly to the other engines, not at the back. But it's quite awesome seeing a rail motor.
How do the drivers determine which locomotive (or locomotive type) should be the one pulling the train at the front and which one should be pulling behind the first (or frontmost) locomotive in a double-headed configuration such as the ones shown in this video? Anyway, I really love your work, Great Shots!
On the two paniers if you look to their side rods there in sink at some points
❤
at 21:10 21:14 which is that engine with five driving wheels? What a beauty!
Which one there is two ??
@@MarshSteamVideosTM i think he meant the 9F
Why did they double head, strength, traction or something else?
Mainly it's just for the spectacle, as the trains they pull nowadays are generally shorter & lighter.
But yes, added power up steep gradients basically, or towing a failed engine along with it's train.
N&W J class, alas there is but only one J class running anymore & it's not in the UK

"Gordon and Henry Were Double Heading The Express With Twice The Amount Of Coaches!"
"Peep Peep", Whistled Gordon and Henry.
;
What cruel person put a little pannier in front of a castle on the main line. So unkind to both locos and, of course, in complete contavention of GWR/BR(W) double heading rules. lol
Sounds like something an engine would say. Should be in a Railway Series book 😂
🇮🇳💐🍁🌹♥️😘😘🥰🥰👌🎂🌹♥️😘🥰🍁💐🇮🇳
North American steam engines may be bigger, but they don't have the character of British engines.
Fully agree.
Scrap the relics 🚂🚃of past. go electric🚊🚋 locomotive. avoid global warming and pollution 🐒💭. ( remember🐙 corona and climate change coming ) 😢.fan
wtf is wrong with you
Bring back the relics!🚂🚃🚃restore them to their glory!😊😊Go volunteers!,😄 Restore the locomotives and bring them back to steam!😺
