Jonathan, how has this video series impacted the Royal Armouries? I imagine you might get recognized on the street or in the displays these days? I'm sure I would say hi if I ever found myself there and saw you. It must be strange, but all I can hope is that it has brought attention to the real work you all do there. Always appreciated, and as a gamer and gun nerd for a long time this series is cool. Thank you!
@@kamikazemelon787 I absolutely do - even away in London or, last week, in Wyoming (admittedly at the Cody Firearms Museum!). Having done TV pretty much once a year for a decade and only getting recognised by my neighbour. And yes, it's very strange. I'd love to see him break down some of the guns from the Bioshock Series! There are some really cool and interesting designs. Especially the Bioshock 2 shotgun with the clip upgrade, the flamethrower in Bioshock 1, and the Rocket Launcher in Bioshock Infinite
I'm guessing he would like killzone guns. The original creators of killzone were engineers and they designed the guns buildings and machinery first. With some impressive detail even today.
Also I just realized a good suggestion for Jonathan to check out, War of Rights. A bunch of neat 19th century rifles and revolvers. He could talk about some stuff like bayonets, buck and ball, and even the cannons in the game.
I suspect the M34 was changed (from the magazine on the side to a more traditional underside) because in the game you can switch firing shoulders whenever you want. So if the magazine was on the side it wouldn't really work if you switched shoulders
Good insight as usual. I was really interested in your take on the Baretta ARX as I recently had the chance to shoot its semi auto version. I agree that it is "chunky". But it sure is a good looker. After shooting the rifle, I came away pretty disappointed in experience, but I also still want to get one. It's a perfect video game gun.
Honestly, when he mentioned games doing both, fictional and Real guns, my thoughts first went to Call of Duty Black Ops 2, especially the story Mode guns vs Multiplayer, I'd love to see Jonathan look at those
Honestly would love see him analyze the weapons of valkyria chronicles 1 and 4 and see how he reacts that they are clearly inspired by ww2 firearms but still very fantasy. Also imagine would be fun seeing him reacting how big and long late game weapons are or that weapons like the mortars, under barrel flame throwers or anti tank lances (literally) in the game are technically non functioning with such a design or highly questionable.
@@DamienDarkside Maybe regarding Fire emblem but less so advance wars with each soldier being a unique unit with unique skills that can perma die. I guess there is somewhat interaction but more in form sidestories for sidecharacters or saying a unique voice line when interacting or supporting while in battle but thats about it. The game itself is more of a mix of visual novel with the combat parts being kinda a mix of being a turn based and real time 3rd person shooter combat system (it's named blitz system). Basically each round you choose from a tactical map which soldier to control and then you move them and shoot one time in 3rd person before release control and go back to the map. However while controlling a character enemy soldiers can still shot at you automatically when in range and line of sight. also applies the other way around.
@@DamienDarkside I would recommend you watch the Gameranx review of Valkyria Chronicles 4 to get a decent sense of how it plays. Would definitely recommend giving it a go, especially Valkyria Chronicles 4.
@@Susanoo7108 I personally preferred VC1 to VC4, for story reasons. In VC1, you're playing as plucky little Gallia, fighting off an invasion by the Empire. In VC4, you're fighting for the Empire's superpower rival, and as the game goes on, we find out things which make them more and more morally questionable. The Federation aren't the good guys, they're just the less obviously bad guys.
The magazine on the MP34a is easily explainable: having the magazine sticking out of the side meant that it would clip through animations that worked fine on every other gun. This also neatly accounts for the gun as a whole being very accurate, but the magazine is oversized - it was probably changed well after the gun was originally modeled, when it was decided that the side mount magazine wasn't worth the animation trouble.
Just something to inform John on, the Uncharted series has always been one to have mirrored guns depending on which direction you were facing in cover so yes, it's the Counter Strike thing again with Uncharted only it's not in your face until it's pointed out.
I absolutely love this series! Would you ever consider doing an episode or two for the firearms of State of Decay 2? They have some real interesting one like The Eternal Guard's Infinite Rage! I think there are loads of interesting modern and older guns in that game
the ARX in the game is representing the ARX-100, which is a 5.56 and takes Stanag magazines. The ARX-160 is the .22lr version of the ARX-100. The magazine well on the ARX-100 is removable, and you have a magazine well made to take AK mags.
Please Jonathan, made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. (Please like the comment so gamespot can finally see it) So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher and Eva's chinese mauser clone. There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please gamespot and Johnathan make a video for MGS3
Idk how well it would work, since it's very different from any of the other games you've covered, but I'd love to see Jonathan check out the weapons from Brigador. Don't always get good visuals of them but you do get some detailed and often kinda cheeky descriptions from in-game characters that let you know what's going on as you're leveling city blocks with them. A lot of fictional sci-fi weapons but there are some familiar faces like the Browning M2, GAU-8 Avenger, and MG42.

I know its a bit of an old game now but i would love to see Jonathan break down the weapons from Medal of Honor: Warfighter. They have so many and very interesting ones.
That aftermarket FAL dust cover rail is actually correct in profile. Rather than thin stamped steel, its a bulkier aluminum part that uses side screws to tighten the cover to the lower receiver to maintain accuracy. The stock profile behind the rear sight is correct for some variants like the STG 58, but the only examples I've seen were made out of polymers, not wood. Fun Fact: Another weapon in Uncharted 4 is the XCR. The game version is of an earlier model in a pistol configuration ('micro' upper receiver, 7.5" barrel, stockless buttplate) so it can fit the SMG role. Notable differences are the addition of a charging handle on the right side of the gun (not the left), and a paddle magazine release. These features were most likely added so the weapon can use the same reload animation as a weapon like an AK47.
YES! Finally! I have many recommendations, and it's great to see Jonathan get to another one! Unfortunate that he hasn't looked over the original trilogy, but nice to see the latest ones here.
Would love to see him look at the Last of Us games, some nice looking guns from a graphical perspective. Would be cool to know if they're actually realistic.
I know from past videos and videos on Jonathan’s channels that some things don’t make it into the final video. I would love a outtakes videos made up of the scenes that didn’t make the cut of Jonathan rambling about these guns and the history.
The lantern-flitlock from the game is indeed a real weapon (also in this configuration). I created a 3D Model of it myself a while ago and did some research of it. What I found was that it was actually a "prototype" weapon for the London police at the end of the 19th century and more like a "garage build" then a real manufactored weapon (hence the patchwork design).
I have been binging on Jonathan's reactions lately, they're always so insightful and interesting, love it ! I know you did Arma 3 and Reforger already but could you do maybe do DayZ Standalone sometime ? It has a strong emphasis on civilian firearms, could be interesting.
"It's the wrong P90... Gromit" I cackled at that line. As for the note about Nathan reloading with his right hand and cocking on the left hand side, I think the actual reason for that is down to a gameplay quirk of the Uncharted series where the player can - at any time - switch the side that the camera is placed on. It's likely that when firing the gun in that chase, the player toggled the side that the camera went to, and in doing so, the character changed from right to left handed shooting to fit, and thus the reload animation was done for a left handed person.
11:25 well if you take the G3 and the FAL as contemporaries there is still some modernisation going on in Sweden(?) I believe? only for national guard type troop but hey. So not too far fetched you would do the same with the FAL
You probably wouldn't want to see flintlock weapons being added to more games. You run the risk of them getting modded with a foregrip and reflex sight, and given a paint job of florescent pink. Pretty sure Jonathan would genuinely have a heart attack.
We need to see Jonathan break down the weapons of Killzone! While some definitely have a grounded/realism feel, there's still a lot of interesting and unique concepts/builds form all of the series!

as fudged as the guns are they perfectly match the vibes of the games lol, by far my favorite game series by far. thank you guys for shining some light on an underrated series!
If you want more of examination of flintlock and renaissance-era firearms, really oughta take a look at Vermintide 2. Their guns run the gambit from fully reasonable and realistic(ish) pistols, longguns, duckfoots, to less reasonable 8-barrelled, revolving muskets to the absolutely absurd paper-cartridge, magazine loaded dwarf pistol and just a straight up clockwork minigun
The blend of the M32 and China Puff grenade launcher is an interesting fictional take. If memory serves, you only get so many cycles with the M32 before you have to rewind the assistant spring, as the revolving part is so large and heavy it needs an assistant spring rather than just a mechanical revolution you get with a regular revolver hand gun. A pump action that turns the pump movement into cycling means you could potentially get rid of the assistant spring, speeding up reloading, so that you get a reloading speed nearly justifiable to what a video game protagonist can do. Or they did it because they think it looks cool.
Excellent work as always. I'd love to see more games use some of the more niche location appropriate firearms. Yes everyone has AKs but what are those truly weird local delicacies
Could we maybe get the rest of the rainbow six siege / rainbow six extraction guns? I´d love to watch jonathan talk about those. Anyway i really love the series

I'm pretty sure Nate hasn't had any military training. He went from a Catholic orphanage to the streets of Colombia to being under the tutelage of a career criminal. Any training he had was picked up in his travels...
I would love to see him break down the guns of the Assassins Creed series. The colonial era games have a wide selection of iconic muzzleloader style weapons.
I'm curious if Jonathan is willing to review more Payday 2 weapons. There's so many weapons in Payday 2, most of them are weird. Especially the latest weapon packs contain some crazy inventions. A very futuristic shotgun, a full auto MP5 that shoots like a LMG, integrated suppressed pistol from Rainbow 6, Norwegian fast firing FMG-9, automatic shotgun with drum magazine. And of course it also has a bunch of classics. Sadly no flintlocks yet....

I'd like like to see Jonathan look at Army of Two and AOT 40th Day guns
I'm pretty sure Nate hasn't had any military training. He went from a Catholic orphanage to the streets of Colombia to being under the tutelage of a career criminal. Any training he had was picked up in his travels...
That makes sense.
Once more I come to request that Johnathan react to weapons from Valkyria Chronicles 1 or 4.
A great indie game came out called cultic that has some awesome guns I think ferguson would like.
I would love to see him break down the guns of the Assassins Creed series. The colonial era games have a wide selection of iconic muzzleloader style weapons.
That launcher looks to me like the Penn Arms P540-1. It’s a six round pump action 40mm multi launcher. Law Enforcement use.
Why not do a ghost recon as well as division react video already? Like seriously those should have already been reacted to.
Jonathan should give the pistols of Receiver 2 a good look!
Jonathan should break down the guns from the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider trilogy
