The picatinny rails discrepancy is something very much a bi product of 3d modeling/game engine optimization limitations of the time this CoD came out. A problem comes up when making a visual detail that small and numerous on a 3d model that is seen up-close in-game. The number of polygons needed to make those rails look realistic would be considered unnecessarily bulky for game engines at the time. A common workaround would've been to use a normal map to "fake" the physical modeling, but because these models are seen up close most of the times, that was viable either. The common compromise was to model some of the rails physically, understanding it would be a a visual discrepancy, but would most likely be overlooked during gameplay.
@@JonathanFergusonRoyalArmouries My pleasure! As with most things in 3D modeling nothing is a hard and fast rule, and it's entirely likely that the "polygon budget" for some weapons were larger depending on what they wanted to emphasize on that platform. The USAS-12 is fully automatic and has very slow rate of fire. Just like you have said “for balancing reasons”. The thing about the XM25, and the parts of the OICW/XM8 that it's based on, is that it isn't a grenade launcher. It's a direct-fire weapon, in essence a 25mm cannon(or in the case of the OICW, 20mm). A grenade launcher is an indirect-fire weapon, although you can of course fire it straight into a target, particularly at closer ranges. The XM25 is a "Counter Defilade Target Engagement System", firing directly at(or past/over) in a flat trajectory.
B&T is actually making a version of the FMG9 called the BWC (Because we can). It's a folding chassis that takes a Sig P320 fire control unit. That front nub in the mw3 version is being used as a grip, but is actually a hand stop. The magazine cannot fit flush into the magwell when folded, so it must be manually seated after unfolding.
The XM-25 does require the user in game to set the distance it air fuses at. When aiming down sights you push down on the right stick at some object to set your distance, and then aim elsewhere to get it to explode at the same distance it was set. You can see 2 sets of numbers when aiming down the scope of the XM-25, one that shows the distance of the object you're looking at, and the other is the distance you've set it to explode at.
reacting to the guns of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 would be great, since we already covered the guns from TF2 which were developed by the same company, valve
Really old, but the Hidden and Dangerous games feature cool WWII weapons, it would be interesting to see them in light of modern games and the actual real world weapons.
The xm 25 actually allowed you to select a range for it to airburst in multiplayer. When aiming, there is a distance indicator and if you press the right thumb stick on the controller, you can lock that distance in and use it to airburst doorways and cover. In the campaign, it just automatically detects an enemy

16:28 in multiplayer you can program the detonation distance by aiming at the object you want to airburst near and pressing down on the right stick. It locks that distance and will airburst there for the entire mag.
Watching the guns that appear in the game but don't actually make it in real life, like the Magpul folding machine gun, makes these games almost like an alternate history lesson.
Definitely want to see Jonathan's opinions on some of the future tech stuff on guns from the Black Ops 2 campaign
The USAS-12 is fully automatic and has very slow rate of fire. Just like you have said “for balancing reasons”.
Fun fact, the enemy NPC can shoot that same gun in automatic with very high rate of fire. But when you pick it up, it only shoots very slow.
Edit: The gun in question would increase the ROF when the enemy NPC has it while blind firing.
Ah, I did have to ask Dave and he thought it was semi-only.
I dunno why but i'd love to see Jonathan and the AK guy do a video together. Specially on the AK50.
"well, heres your citation, right here" *SHHHHHCLICK* classic johnathon moment
14:49 My god, I've never been so intimidated by a sound coming from a gun that *isn't* a firing blast
Just checked the Wikipedia article for AS50 and it cites this video! That's hilarious.
Can you guys cover Black? That game was fun as heck and guns are weird XD
14:40 "citation needed" "Here's your citation!" Nice one. Thanks for the video, would love to see the G-36C too. Was my favourite gun of the game. Had amazing wall-bang and ergonomics (swapping time) stats.
"Well, here is your citation"
Absolute chad Jonathan
"Here's your citation" is such a good line
It would be really cool if you guys could check out Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare, it was a wide variety of weapons from new to old. Also if possible it would be really cool if you guys could revisit Black Ops 2, Id like to see Jonathans thoughts on the MMS sight and Target Finder sights.
This is great, we need him to do MWll when it comes out, lots of m4 conversions thats we rarely see in games are coming.
This is one I was waiting for. Lot of future predictions and weird stuff like the xm25 but good calls like dual optics
can't believe this video is already the citation for the as50's gas impingement system
Very good selection of guns 💪🏼
That AS50 certainly carries quite a lot of authority.
The legend that is.... Jonathan Ferguson
The MSR is up there in the leagues of the mw2 intervention, the various barret 50 cals, L96 from black ops and the DSR/ Balista from black op2. It’s absolutely legendary, truly more then a “bolt action rifle with a scope”
On the monolithic quad rail upper: LMT is still selling them to countries under large contracts, and the Colt L119A2 is a licenced version with the rear of the quads machined flat.
Really enjoying these episodes! I'd love to see Jonathan cover Operation Flashpoint (AKA Arma: Cold War Assault), & other early 2000's shooters like Iron Storm & WWII Online! I find it really interesting seeing how the developers in that era tried to be realistic within the limits of the tech they were working with.
Favorite cod right here! Glad it’s getting a video! :)
Speaking of the Five-seveN, you should have Johnathan react to Splinter Cell, as I bought my Five-seveN entirely because I love Sam Fisher so much.
Get yourself an FN-2000 and you got the set 😎
@@ihatethiswholedamplanet I wish FN would import those again. I’d love to get an FS2000 with the Neu trigger and Judo Chop charging handle, but accessories are even harder to find than the gun.
@@gameragodzilla I know it. Only time ive ever saw one in person was at a gun show about 9 years ago. Brand new, still came in manufacturers packaging.
$2500. Way too much for a college kid who delivered pizzas but I tried for it :(
@@ihatethiswholedamplanet Same. I have the money now, but the availability isn’t there. Argh.
Aftermarket support is also something I worry about. I also own a SPAS-12, which is also rare and out of pop production, but the SPAS-12 Project had everything I needed to get the gun up and running, so I can regularly shoot this gun without problems.
Been waiting for this my entire life
I would love for Jonathan to react to Warframe's weapons, it would be fun.
I just realized we haven't had a 5.7 in new CODs since BO2. Man, that was my favorite pistol to use in COD, even if it wasn't the best.
The reload for it in BO2 looked epic.
@@SPLATTERGEIST favorite pistol in bo2, had it on almost every class
B&T is actually making a version of the FMG9 called the BWC (Because we can). It's a folding chassis that takes a Sig P320 fire control unit. That front nub in the mw3 version is being used as a grip, but is actually a hand stop. The magazine cannot fit flush into the magwell when folded, so it must be manually seated after unfolding.
The five seven is probably my favourite Call of Duty handgun. That, or the tac 45 from Black Ops 2.
The sound of the bolt of that SA50 is glorious my god...
The XM-25 does require the user in game to set the distance it air fuses at. When aiming down sights you push down on the right stick at some object to set your distance, and then aim elsewhere to get it to explode at the same distance it was set. You can see 2 sets of numbers when aiming down the scope of the XM-25, one that shows the distance of the object you're looking at, and the other is the distance you've set it to explode at.
well, the FMG9 is being produced now, under a different name, the FDP-9, in collaboration with ZEV Technologies.
It’s nice to see that johnathan is learning more about games the more of these he does, the earlier videos he was almost always confused
Had a shiver run down my spine when the AS50 was being shown. I have memories of that thing in Arma 2 DayZ mod, with explosive rounds. xD
I believe killing floor 2 has mo capped reloads. Excellent video as always!
reacting to the guns of Half-Life and Half-Life 2 would be great, since we already covered the guns from TF2 which were developed by the same company, valve
Fun fact: Bushmaster is a subsidiary of Remington, which is why it and Remington both produced the ACR for a short period of time.
"Here's your citation"... Jonathon is absolutely a straight G
Really old, but the Hidden and Dangerous games feature cool WWII weapons, it would be interesting to see them in light of modern games and the actual real world weapons.
Is that a Fiat 14/35 Machine Gun in the background?
That's a nice piece of history!
The xm 25 actually allowed you to select a range for it to airburst in multiplayer. When aiming, there is a distance indicator and if you press the right thumb stick on the controller, you can lock that distance in and use it to airburst doorways and cover. In the campaign, it just automatically detects an enemy
Would be SO cool to see the 5.7mm cartridge in different platforms.. i know they have an ar conversion for it at least in the us. on top of the "regular" 5.7 pistol, p90/ps90, Ruger 57
Imagine roller delayed 5.7 gun like an mp5
@@WuKuVex Give Kel-tech time and enough crystal powder they'll come up with something out there in 5.7 again. PSA might have more 5.7 stuff in the works too.
The AS50's page now has this video as the citation. Lovely.
One other interesting note about the revolver, the chambers in the revolver where the bullets go are REALLY close to the outside of the cylinder. To the point where it almost looks like it would be paper thin, if not actually intersecting.
