  • Awesome Super safe silent pellet trap / target box built to take a4 paper target cards. The lead lining helps massively reduce ricochets and keeps the noise down . These are ideal if you plink in your garden or built up areas.
It was built from workshop scraps and doesn't need any mad tools to build
with the lead free pellets becoming more popular the chances of ricochet are much higher, this type of target box is much safer.
with traditional diablo type lead pellets it will almost collect 100% of any pellet strikes and allow for easy recycling of the lead.

    G'day Tommy. Nice build mate.
The quietest pellet trap I have ever used was a small cardboard box full of old t-shirts, undies, shorts etc. Not compacted, but enough to fill the volume of the box. The only sound you would hear was the pellet hitting the target paper/cardboard. Lasted for ages and when the cardboard box became too tattered, just replace it with another one. Take out the clothing/fabric and give it a shake and all the pellets fall out. :)
    Yours looks sexier though. ;)

I've got a nasty habit of leaving my targets out all over the place 😆
So hopefully in time I'll build a bunch of weatherproof ones.
The material lined boxes are definitely very quiet though mate!

I thought I was the only one to do this. Can confirm no pellets coming back at me over 5ftlbs. Been using old tobacco tins for shooting in my shed cast in lead, about 5mm thick, really quiet, old pellets melted in a baked bean can. Very rough and ready, all the more fun for making it yourself. If using splatterburst targets they dont show up very well as the paper doesnt flex enough. So hold the paper off the lead. Awesome video as usual.

Tilly musing to himself: "What can I do with all these grungy old fishing weights? Me other half is beginning to complain about the boxes of them...."
Also, after making the cutout in the main target frame: "Hmmm. Should I throw this little bit away? What am I thinking?!?!? It's wood, I'll find a use for it!"*
Since I didn't have any fishing weights, I made my pellet trap with scrap 1/4" steel back plate and about 5lbs of duct seal putty to catch the pellets, in a plywood box, with a slide out clipboard to hold the target (I didn't even bother to cut a hole in it, figuring the pellets will make the hole for me). Got the idea from the original Beeman's website.

Mike you are mad! That's absolutely correct to the tee 😆
I cannot for the life of me throw plywood away, however curly it's got
I've got a load of stainless sheet stashed,I might well make a few more so I can leave them out and they won't disintegrate.

My cardboard pellet traps filled with old clothes are doing fine indoor but I need to make something similar that I could leave outside soon or later!

Channel budget just about stretched to this build mate 😆
If they work well for filming I'll make some fancy ones going forward. I might even do a couple in stainless so I can leave them outside

Excellent idea , and should I take it up ( added too existing target board ) ive got literally tons of lead at our works .. matter of fact , they come in sheets , so won't have to melt em down .. win win situation id say

I am already using lead as a pellet trap, so there.
On reflection, it's dog rough compared to yours.
    Thanks.

I've not touched the 200 for a while mate, been super busy with work so I've had to shelve it for the moment. Maybe over the winter I'll get chance to finish the stock off and bring it into service in the spring

Awesome setup, I've just bought myself a couple of trays to build my own versions (indoor and outdoor ranges). As a matter of interest, what was the glue you used to secure the little border pieces? I thought I read superglue on the bottle but noticed you smeared water(?) on both surfaces before applying the glue.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  Год назад +1

Hi mate it's just standard superglue. Try it out with dampening it with water before gluing wood. It works a treat and sets up the glue almost instantly 😉

Save the hassle of melting and prattling about, get a roll of roofing lead from the builders yard, which is about £20, that’s what I did. P.S better still purloin some from a local Church roof! Joking yt 😂
