I love, love, love the transparency Gerald gives out. This form of honesty is so rare on RUclips, but should be the gold standard.
Thank you, Gerald for your continued integrity.
Hear hear!
If there is *one* person on RUclips that does *not* have to put any disclaimers on their videos relating to fair and balanced opinions on products it's you mr. Gerald - Thanks for another great and thorough video :)
These actually look genuinely interesting. Nice job getting such a good deal with them Gerald. They clearly respect the work you do.
Gerald, not only are your videos the most informative and in depth, but your disclosure is so transparent it just installs trust, thank you! Your a legend!
Thank you, Gerald! This review of the light products is amazing! Thank you so much for breaking down these lights and sharing your professional opinion. :)
Waiting for price updates :)
@@TheSangjy Hey you can follow the links in Gerald's bio for more information on pricing :)
I'm waiting for tubelights now, is it next? ;)
As always, thanks for such a thorough and balanced product review! Really appreciate the value analysis that you provide to the video and tech world.
Thank you so much for being crystal clear about the terms you have with companies sending products in. Most channels seem to mention it quickly almost as if to bury the info under the rug.
Not only the best detail oriented reviewer on youtube but also the most honest! Thank you Mr Undone sir
great video as always Gerald, always interesting to see new products in the space.
Holy shit! An SSI of 84 with a daylight balanced light? Damnnnnn. This is mad impressive
Always respect your honest comments, role model of a RUclipsr!!
Bring it on! The few iFootage accessories I have are amazing. I trust they have some excellent lights
It's really surprising to me that a company with a lowercase "i" at the beginning of their name (which calls to mind the hundreds of cheap, poor-quality Apple knockoffs) has a reputation for making solid, high-quality products.
As always, Gerald, really appreciate the disclosures at the beginning of the video. I've been happy to see some other creators adopting the same style in their videos and I hope you continue to be a positive influence on creators across this platform!
I’ve bought several iFootage products after watching Gerald’s videos - incredibly happy with their quality overall so really looking forward to giving these new lights a go too! 💡
i really appreciate your disclosures!! AND your content
That USB-C power delivery is really cool! I've used the Jinbei EF-60 which you can power using two Sony NP-F batteries, which is really convenient but adds quite a bit of weight on the light. This enables you to put the battery somewhere else.
Very interesting, as I’m trying to work out which small use lights to get this is another type I’m going to have to consider. Thanks for the breakdown. 👍🏼
Just unboxed these yesterday, can't wait to use them for my videos, they look fairly nice.
That 60 watt light REALLY seems like something I could use for product presentation B-Roll video's for my shop without breaking the bank
Awesome review! Thanks!
Love your review mate!!!
Another great video! That bowens adapter its super handy. That's the problem with Aputure 60d, the plastic overall and in the bowens mount. A sturdy bowens adapter that can support the light and the modifier is a must! I remember Caleb Pike has to mount clamps in front of 60d to put a larger modifier...
I was just starting to do some research on what light(s) I would like to pick up, and then you dropped this video. My homework is done! Thanks! :)
Thanks for your upfront disclosure and honesty around how you approach sponsored “reviews.”
Interesting! Thank you for sharing it ✌️
I love the size of the 60w. I can see so many uses for it where my current godox sl60s are huge and heavy.
More competition in the market is better for companies to try to improve and out compete each other.
Thank you for the example set up test using the 60W light. I found it very useful. Please could you add what F stop and iso the camera was set to, as they have an impact on how bright the light looks.
We use Aputure lights for our productions - pretty solid especially to travel with
I’m only 2 minutes in but wanted to applaud your disclosure. Few others are willing to admit as much, but putting your potential biases up front helps us judge your objectivity when reviewing future product from this brand’s competitors.
I have a lot of IFootage gear - Slider, monopod, friction arm, tripods, Seastar quick releases. Everything they do is high quality. They are an impressive company. I would be tempted to buy their lights too, except I’ve already good for lights.
I would love to see the 60DN Gen 2 be able to do spotlight like the Aputure 60X. It would make a great wedding video light then. But what IFootage is doing on their first gen looks very promising.
Thanks Gerald! Can you talk about the a1 firmware update with 422 support? And by extension what’s the best balanced (quality vs file size) setting? Also I felt mine to be more warm than before when I’m 422 and burn through battery more. In short, long term a1 review please!
Gerald! Great to see you back. Missed ya, man. Just saw the video Josh put out on Axibo’s new slider, & figured you’d be reviewing it, too. Btw, you ever consider an in-depth review of Josh’s denim shirts, considering you’re Canadian?!
I agree with the remarks on the control box, on mine I can't hardly turn the dial because it's so stiff! also, they sent me the purple one.... 😆
Jealous! The updated version they sent me has a much better dial than the early version us reviewers were getting, so that's good. Not perfect, but a lot better.
@@geraldundone Great to hear they did that! :D You could always use a paint marker and pretend yours was purple all along,... :D
As soon as you pulled up the readings I perked up. Seem to be violet pumped COBs, I wonder if these are made by Nichia or Seoul. My 5000k Optisolis leds also ran a little green.
Many thanks for the excellent video - very helpful info, as usual. You know, Colbor has just released a whole line of 5 COB lights and no one is talking about it… There are three 60 watts (daylight, bicolour and RGB) and two 100 watts (daylight and bicolour). Have ever thought about making a video about them? They are cheap, light and small, and seem to have a good build quality… but I’m not sure about the light quality, noise standard and all the other extras. A video of yours would be excellent to clarify…
I recognize product reviews can be really boring to make but Gerald just does such a good job. If I could only watch 1 person review a product, it’s him.
Edit: these lights look great but their website is not working properly on mobile. Can’t configure which light I want to buy
Great review and honesty :) ifootage delivers great products again and again! My only issue with iFootage is that I have had repeated problems with their EU store, shipping things late and wrong package received. Hopefully it’s just me being unlucky, because it is a bit crazy:)
iFootage makes great stuff!
That little 60DN is veryyyyy interesting
very interested in the 60w for shooting wedding films
I hope they make bi-color versions of these soon!
especially that mini one.
As I said in my earlier comment, I just placed an order for 4 of these lights.
I was looking for barndoors as well. But on their website, the barndoors could not be ordered.
september dispatch is kind of a bummer for the SL1 - same issue as with the ifootage nanoslider - on available anywhere
Hey if you were to compare these 3 lights to aputure products what would be the Aputure equivalents when it comes to output?
The ssi reading might be for a different target temp, compared to a 5500k blackbody, these might be perfect
don't think you mentioned it in the video, and the website doesn't seem to provide that info, but wondering if you know how much will the mini bowens to bowens adaptor for the 60dn sell for...
Me looking at videos of something that I definitely can't afford ♥
I upvoted, right after the disclosure
Is there a fresnel that will work with these lights?
Cool
Hmmmm iFootage or SIRUI that is the question? Great review as always. Thanks
Are you planning on making a EOS R7 Review?
You’re back ! I thought you were going through something
Didn't send the purple one.
BIG MISTAKE!!!
I am planning on evolving a dual use space one that can be used for video production but also one that is my home & can support my various physical disabilities. For example my current SAD lamps were made by Yongnuo & they have been unreliable & difficult to manage but good enough. However in 5 years Aputure/Amran have dropped in cost, so I have decided to standardise round their software/firmware and look for products that can fit into their universe
So my question is - how do they inter-operate with Aputure/Amran gear??
As you've said they can inter-operate with DMX and that is my other option
However I get the impression that DMX protocols are both more expensive & more capable but also less functional & intuitive than Aputure products.
Do you have any videos looking at software that uses the DMX protocols to manage multiple proprietary/walled-garden products?
My knowledge of DMX is so slight, that I know of its existence but barely anything more.
Now a couple weeks later, have you/are you planning on actually adopting these lights for your studio setup or does the Aperture lineup still meet your needs better?
I haven't changed anything yet, but that speaks less about the lights and more about my resistance to change a working setup.
Dang a monitor with power delivery this little one would be great for streaming gamers
Not really budged option. I got my 60W Godox for less than 100€. Now it's 140€ :o. But this small anglerfish is 213€.
The plus there is a way to have it completely silent (bigger ones). Godox is quite noisy ...
I think I will just order them and use them and see what they can do at my shoots.
Thanks for the disclosure information.
Did you work out this policy yourself or is their a resource for RUclips creators to explain the sort of advertising models available, how much the market charges, etc.
I can well believe that their is no channel just dealing with this sort of creator information as I see plenty of creators who I like a lot fighting to deal with all the back end pressure.
I have also seen lots of creators explaining the pressures placed on them when they are trying to grow their channels. A classic example is Tom Scott.
Then their is the whole business of Arts funding in local countries, tax write-offs for production costs to help movie business's, grants & fundraising all of which is aimed at production companies who serve the 'real' TV & Movie Business.
Any advice would be welcome, because whilst I am currently to disabled to be a creator, I can try to help other creators, get the weight off their backs.
Thanks
SmallRig RC120D is 3x cheaper than 320DN and more light output, 62,600 lux, vs 56,000. and has CRI 95, TLCI 96 vs 98, 99 (still pretty good).
So is the lack of studio mode only on the 2 models with the control boxes or also on the 60? I was so excited until you mentioned that. Still great lights but I love having mine on smart plugs and just telling the Google Home to 'Start/Turn Off Studio'. I'm on camera everyday multiple times a day and this helps me so much.
None of them have it, but I've messaged iFootage about my interest in the feature so fingers crossed.
Hi, don’t worry we will be adding the “Studio mode” to the final firmware before we dispatch in September, it is confirmed.
Gotta love when the manufacturer stalks the comment section!
do you guys think the color accuracy is better than arri ?
04:05 link for the power bank, thanks
I watched a video by Carlos Quintero about LUTs and he started off saying it would be "technical but not as technical as Gerald Undone would do". And... it wasn't really very technical at all. My personal take away from his video is that LUTs are just sorta good guesses and that confuses me. I would figure a LUT for a specific camera by the manufacturer would be very precise.
All that to say... can you do a video on LUTs. 1D Luts, 3D Luts, 3D 17grid, 33 grid, 65 grid... blah blah blah... What's it all about Alfie?
I did watch your video "How to Correct Log & HLG Footage & Make LUTs" and I think I understand but still feel rather queasy about the whole topic. E.g. If I want to load a LUT into my camera, what type do I need. I've seen two references that say it must be a 33grid. Why?
How bright is the 320W compared to the Aputure 300D?
10-15% brighter in most test cases. E.g. 320DN gets ~12500 lux at 1 meter with no reflector at 100%, where the 300d II gets about 10900 lux.
@@geraldundone sweet thanks!
Thanks Gerald. I Wonder why you didn't test the handy light deeper... Actually I wonder why none of the other channels did.
For me it was a time budget. The video is already 20+ minutes, so I focused on the bigger items.
Can't speak for other channels, but it's possible that people feel like once you've seen one, you've seen them all with mini lights.
@@geraldundone that's true. There are some measurements I would have liked to know like output, magnets, battery life, screws position or if it works while connected to a powerbank... But I understand your point. Thanks for your work Gerald, I didn't intend to sound disrespectful or ungrateful :)
late on nikon z30?
if you ask me in terms of which lights shine brightest, it's yours, Mr Undone.
SOunds like a Nanlite with a brand and color change.
They look similar in size and shape, but these are obviously unique to iFootage. The photometric results prove they have achieved something very unique….. LED manufacturers have been aiming for these sort of color scores for like 20 years and ifootage seems to be the first one to crack it. Quite surprising and cool to see…
Looks like a rebranded Nanlight 60B
It’s very confusing they call it SL1, since the DMG Lumière are also called SL1
Still trying to getting my head around ifootage’s “new” emitter with its lower (probably filtered) blue spectrum. Seem’s tailor made for RUclipsr understanding of light metrics (get out the sekonic, and higher is better). This filter they’ve assumedly put on this chip hasn’t fixed anything. Leds are notoriously week in their violet output, so that blue spike is there to amplify the nearest part of the spectrum… to get some semblance of deeper blues. Filtering it out does nothing… except raise comparative scores like SSI and spectrum analysis (it’s not producing better colors anywhere in that spectrum, just less middle blues). That said, at least in this test… the color looks good, but I’d want to see a side by side white balanced chart+skin tone comparison with say an Aputure and a prolycht or Arri to see if this hype is even remotely real.
are these... yujileds ???
Can we get a link to that power bank please?
Respectfully I’d actually say that the head lead should be 5m and not only 3m. 3m won’t even get you to the top of a basic c-stand.
Is that Chris Pratt doing a product review?
🤟
"messy shot" - Not by most standards.
All of them are worthless to me, but the tiny 70w one is pretty handy and the only one worth it. But then again they're static at 5600K in a time where you get much better choices with 2700-7500K and even RGB's with such prices.
卷起来 : )
Title of his video is "Spirit of the west photoshoot Sony A7iii Zeiss 85mm" he has deleted all his comments
Really dig your honesty and thoroughness. Also heads up for anyone, YT just rolled out some things to combat comment spammers: ruclips.net/video/EKwAlBv4ymc/видео.html
Ifootage is from apple 🤔🤔🤔
Wow. Another light manufacturer to consider. Hmmm. Anyone interested in some Godox lights for sale???
(jk)
Why is the an I in front of the name. Are they hoping people will link it to iPhone? A surviving name from Apples old i marketing in the 2000’s. Poor naming points to a lack of creativity and original thought which will probably be present through the entire product line.
@BarryJohnson at Engineer Reacts referred me and this was a great video i just subscribed
