Looking at the listings on the German Amazon, you can literally buy 2 Godox SL60Ws (2x139 eur) for the same price as an Amaran 100D (329 eur) and still have money left. Don't get me wrong, looks like a good light but there's no way I'd say it's a better deal than just getting 2 SL60Ws which are already amazing lights for the price. As a matter of fact, at the current pricing you can get an SL60W, light stand and 90cm softbox and save 100 euro instead of buying just the 100D... Not sure how exactly people are looking at the 100D as a Godox SL60W killer lol
You're looking at inflated prices. The supply for this item is very low right now so people are re-selling the light at higher than retail value. This is supposed to be a $200 USD product.
Thanks. Surely that fan noise is an easy fix - it’s clearly catching on something as it turns. I still have two days to return my ML60 - phew, just in time 😀

I hate the did not include the bicolor. I just bought the 300 X about a month ago. You had me thinking I was gonna return it for a second! Your video is perfect quality by the way, sounds and looks excellent!!!
6:18 in Aputure's video they say you can change the fan mode between "smart" (temperature-depentent) and static... maybe through the app? Also your fan of the 200d sounds likes its broken
Caleb is the 200x going to have the same fan noise issue as the 200D? I'm looking for a powerful light as powerful as the 200d but wouldn't want the fan noise issue if you've got any suggestions? or anyone else for that matter.
Caleb, I was pretty close to getting a 200d, so I'm very glad to know about the whine/noise situation ahead of time. If I was JUST using it for stop-motion animation, it would be ideal. But since I want a light to use also with regular live-action episodes, the 100D feels like the way go to. Thank you for this!
Just so you know, Aputure has fixed this. I just got the 200x and it seems to have a different fan that sounds about the same as to the 300D. A bit louder, but absolutely no whining.
There’s something wrong in the fan motor on that light. It sounds like a defective fan. I’m sure Aperture would not purposely put in a fan that they knew was defective. Return for a replacement!
Hi! Nice video. I just want to notice that the problem you have on your Aputure 200D is just an issue easily fixable. The fan in have been mounted too high. It touches the frame which cause the noise and have too very bad effects : 1) The fan slows down and never reach it optimum speed which forbid a correct cooling. 2) It uses more energy because as it can't cool down correctly the lamp, it's forced to run much often, longer ramping with harmonics and with more current peaks which can kill the fan or the fan driver at more or less long term as they are not designed for this kind of things. 3) As you ear, it's loud and quite stressing at the usage. Be careful. Any "Silent mode" can avoid this kind of problem. The only thing they can do is to lower the power of the output light to use passive cooling by making the fan not turn at all or at very low speed. But if the blades of the fan touches the frame, this will lead to no turn at all as their will not be enough couple to turn it. This hack can lead to burn the chip which power the fan. To correct that problem, you have to get to the manufacturer to not avoid the warranty by opening the case. If the product is no more under warranty, you just have to remove the frame to access to the fan and push it to the direction of the motor by letting a little gap to let the fan turn freely. That's all! ;)
I am sorry, your comparison to Godox is completely unfair. You are comparing new Aputure ligths to the old generation of Godox lights, but instead you should have compared with the Godox ML50 and Godox SL150II lights (VL150 being the more expensive line). The new Godox lights have much improved yokes and a much better build. But anyways I think it is good that there is competition in this segment now, prices might go down because of this which is a good thing of course.
Great little lights, one of my first led lights was from the Amaran serie. The 100D is 200bucks over here, but i can get a set with 2x the godox sl60w for 180bucks. tough choice! Maybe open up the 200D and take a look at the fan specs and replace it with some comparable silent noctua? Can you see the light temp(heat not color) in the app? The godox shows it at the rear screen.
Great Video!! Can we get an update on the fan noise with the updated firmware? I understand that is has a constant option, but Aputure also mentioned that it is also a quieter sound with a “medium” speed. Is it a significant DB/ buzzing decrease? Thanks.
I rate the Aputure budget lights so much I advise it to my students whenever they ask! Great video I'll be refering to when making my point haha, thanks!
Great info and thanks for the mini review Caleb. Maybe worth investigating, can the 200D be modded and replace the fan with something more silent? I'm guessing it would require taking it apart and seeing what is the fan used and whether its feasible.
Great review Thank you! That beeing said, the godox still retails for half of the price of a 100d in my country with the godox coming in a transport case. The difference in price keeps me from switching for now.
Thanks for this Caleb. Any reason you’re comparing these with Godox’s older lights instead of the newer versions? Build quality and fan noise issues are vastly improved in the new ones.
I had those two lights and figured it would make sense as they are so popular. Buying the newer ones would have made the review more well rounded though.

I own 2 apurture lights 120d and 300d... would like to buy a godox light... will i have a problem with skin tones and white balance if i mix these 2 companies?
Be so interested to see you do a comparison between the 200d and the new fs300 from nanlite?? 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Didn't know aputure was going to enter the budget market or else I wouldn't have bought budget stands 😭😭😭
Managing any device via phone app sucks. Separate remote control is crucial. I don't understand how Caleb doesn't feel the same.
Wow I was just planning on getting a 120d, definitely going to go with the 100d and throw the rest of the money saved into another piece of gear
After my research for days lol I decided to go with the 100d as well.
I wonder if you could DIY replace the fan in the 200d with something better... Hmm
It touches the frame which cause the noise and have too very bad effects :
1) The fan slows down and never reach it optimum speed which forbid a correct cooling.
That's all! ;)
Dont worry bout fan noise..Waves NS1
I literally just bought the Godox light 3 hours ago and you come out with this?! Ahh!
OOF
Godox is still amazing
Amaran means warning in the Malay language.
Thanks.
You always Say apature. And also in your charts there so many mistakes in this Video im confused
was the 200d fan noise solved in later builds?
👋👍🚀
I rate the Aputure budget lights so much I advise it to my students whenever they ask! Great video I'll be refering to when making my point haha, thanks!
Ah yes, the film world, where a $200 light is "budget"
Dam Aputure raise the price by $20 and put a Noctua fan in there!
How about compared to Nanlite Forza 60?
Exactly my question
Can you speak to actual heat in the room, we use 2 neewer 660 and wonder if the 100D would lessen how hot our studio gets over hours of filming.
@@dslrvideoshooter I think your review can make people buy the wrong product for their use case. Maybe a pinned comment or new video would be in order? The video itself is really good, as your always are
Gosh darn it, I just bought an sl-60w recently! Great review tho, Caleb! :)
Is the metering corrrect? Because they're very different from what Aputure lists in their webpage and also very different from what other reviews measured
Fantastic video. Got a recommended best "silent light," perhaps LED, for at-home musician RUclipsrs? (If you want to see why I'm in need of an upgrade, any of my recent videos have mediocre lighting... suggestions and feedback welcome!)
Hi, I have a question. Currently I am using Neewer lights (2 of them). Will amaran 100x improve lighting significantly if I upgrade? If so, will one 100x light would be enough?
The Godox fan noise sounded like my first Volkswagen 🤣.
Great review! Looks like a strong option for a bedroom studio. Off to get a couple 100d’s!
Haha! Yes, the 100D is stupid great.
@@dslrvideoshooter appreciate it, Caleb. Great to have your voice on this. You’re the opposite of the Amaranth 200 fan noise 🙌🏼
Look at the new Godox lights, they're better better than the 200d
Sweet! Just what I needed... now buy :) Thanks caleb!
Could the fan on the 200 be faulty?
what do you think GVM 150W vs Aputure Amaran 100D? Which one should I purchase?
I ordered a 200D based on this video and subsequent research. Will be a big waiting game, though. Not likely to ship until mid-to-late August. Will report back on the fan noise if it is a problem. Thanks for the info!
