There is just a hotspot in the center - which is where people are metering. Bounce it off something or diffuse it using a softbox and retest. You'll see it's 200w vs 300w.
Can you make a video with the regular 300d and 200d and show what the updated fan noise is like on the 200d aputure said it’s sounds is more like the 300d now, you’re content is awesome thank you 🙏🏼
For anyone looking for a battery powering solution for the 200x, Aputure has a 2-bay Power Station that enables you to power the light with V-Mount batteries: amzn.to/3sM7vwD
It makes total sense why they make it work with Sidus. When I was deciding between the 200d and all the other copy cats coming out, I wanted the 200d because I already own a Nova and 600d
I think the reason they left sidus link in was to keep people in the "A" family. It's one extra thing to make people consider Amaran over SmallRig or Godox. If you're on the fence, Sidus could be the deciding factor.
Wow you are so articulate and this review is engaging and so informative in a simple way. Doesn’t repeat stuff that’s already in a ton of other reviews. Subbed.
This is a great review, I was curious what your experience was for the patchy warm/cold spots when the light is set to 5600k, 3200k, & 4200k. This light seems rad, but I'm between this and the Amaran 200D for a hard background light and wouldn't likely use diffusion.
I bought the new S version. But if you factor the 2 bay power station for battery power ($179) and the quick release ($69) to mount the power station on light stand. The total cost is just $600. Oh you also need to buy a case/bag as well. Whereas the 300x is all in one. No need extra cost.
The cable of the 200x IS stupidly short! By the way I suggest comparing the 200X with the Nanlite FS-300 B. I have both. And the Nanlite is very interesting because it's Miche more rugged and sturdy, with u-shape mount. But also has many down sides (like fan noise, weight, lack of a hood app...) that make the Amaran a relative better choice.
This is a fantastic video! I love every element you hit on, very well thought out. Things that jumped out to me that I was curious of were: -output comparison - I’ve seen posts about this and it is mind blowing that they are essentially the same for a drastically different price point, which got me thinking they’re likely charging more for the “extra pro features” you get from the 300x -COB Bi-color pattern with optical adapters -weight and size difference for travel -power draw -great length, not over 10 mins
They're also charging for the different LEDs that are used. The ones used in the Amarans tend to have a greenish hue to them and are not rated to last as long (meaning they'll go more green as time goes on). Still awesome lights, especially for the beginner and anyone else who needs lights but isn't ready/able to drop a rent payment or more on only one (can get a whole lighting kit for a rent payment when you go Amaran woo!).
3:50 This is a great nugget of info. I was all set to buy the amaran but if it's not compatible with fresnel and spotlight attachments then no thank you. Appreciate this detailed review!
The fresnel he used was specifically designed for the LS 300x, so I am curious if the unit has the same problem with other fresnel or elipsoidal accessories. Iirc, Aputure doesn’t recommend its “big eye” fresnel for its other units on their website. I think before deciding you should either test yourself, ask Aputure, or search for other review videos. This is an issue of concern for me also, but this video is two years old. I think that Aputure has released a fresnel accessory for the smaller units (but I’m not 100% sure). If you’re about to pull the trigger on a purchase, it might be worth doing additional investigation.
Just brought 2 Amaran 200D’s and the 4 light MC kit. The beginning of my Aputure lighting kit. I think I’ll buy a 600D when I’m ready for pro lighting.
Hey there! Just starting to build a lighting kit. Was thinking of investing in 2 Amran 200X's (or possibly one X one D) and throwing in one MC light and one Amaran 60X light in there. Do you have any thoughts? Should I go all day light or mix and match with the bicolor?
I set the color temperature of 200X at 5600K at work today, and found that the color cannot be unified with 600D. This will be a problem when shooting white products. I hope 300X will not have this problem.....
I want to buy one but all suppliers here in UK say there's at least a 6 week wait. As good as the Amaran range is I think I'll be getting a shorter wait and less expensive Godox near equivalent.
Stop press. I found a dealer yesterday here in London who got one to me today. It's a lovely light and lives up to your review here. So far my only gripe is the Sidus Link app which can be a bit confusing at first.
Really appreciated this review/comparison video. Great in-depth review along with the modifier section which I was concerned about as I have the spotlight mount and looking at purchasing this 200x. Again great job with the video!
I am a little new to all of this. How do I power the light when I am outside in the field? W/ your suggestions can you provide links to the products? Thank you in advance. Loved the vid.
How do you compare these type of lights to the LED panel style lights that are avail now? If you had to have one, which would you go for these days? Thanks for any tips!
pricing out the 60x and 200x and this was extremely helpful, thanks for an awesome review! Deserves WAY more views. Subbed and looking forward to more videos!
I have the Aperture60x and was wondering if I should get another 60x or if I should get this light due to the ability to have a wider light spread. Thanks
Great video! I'm looking to learn. Do you have an introductory video on how to choose a good lightning set for movie shoots? Ideally at competitive prices like the 200x.
@@BoyarsMedia I figured! I dabble in both photography and videography equally so I was looking for something that can potentially do both but I guess its either really expensive or not in the market yet 😂.
Aputure did not keep Sidus Link from the Amaran lights because YOU are the PRODUCT here. Apparently you've not read the Privacy Agreement. If you did, you might wonder why they need to *ACCESS YOUR BROWSING HISTORY* just to turn your light up or down.
Why is this channel so underrated?
Seriously that was great. No BS. I kept waiting for some pointless filler and it never happened.
Is that a backhanded compliment?
I think cookeoptics is one of the first channels I learned cinematography from
Competition against kai
because this guy isnt who hes supposed to be

Subscribed because this was somehow the most through and simultaneously simple yet captivating review I've seen. Well done.
Excellent summary of the light. Clear & relevant details, particularly about the noise, which was much better articulated than other reviewers.

Usually you need to watch several videos to get a full overview. Not with ZY, you only need to watch one.
Excellent summary!
This comparison video was really really well made. Great job!
This video is way underliked than it should. Very well presented. Appreciated.
Love to see that the 200x holds up so well! Thanks for the great review, definitely adding at least one of these to the kit.
For anyone looking for a battery powering solution for the 200x, Aputure has a 2-bay Power Station that enables you to power the light with V-Mount batteries:

Thank you so much for this!!
Do you know what batteries I should purchase for the battery pack ?
Thanks! Didn't know they sold the power station separately. Definitely makes this amaran line more desirable knowing you can adapt to v-mount.

Okay I'm buying this light now. Fantastic video mate!

I just love your reviews. Definitely one of my favorites on YT. Keep up the great work.

What a review man, congratulation. Thank you
Amazing amazing comparison! Now that 200x is shining in my brain!
You covered everything I came for! Worth the watch
Awesome. I’m getting the 200x.
Liked and subscribed!!
Really great review. To the point. Good facts, productions, content.
Thanks for the video! You did an awesome job presenting all the facts :)

This was an awesome video! Love your explanation of everything!
Why are there so few comments on such a valuable video?
Genuinely one of the best reviews I've ever seen! Well done mate
Fantastic review, thanks buddy!
Is there an even cheaper Godox version?
BUT IT HAS AN UMBRELLA HOLDER! half joking, but I totally love that feature and I use it quite a lot with my 7 foot umbrella
Answered everything that I wanted to know about this. Thank you.

Wow! Absolutely loved it. Definitely subscribing!
thanks for the effort and the sharing. care to share your thoughts on any battery options? thumbs up.
Hi Zy. What you recommend between 200x and nanlite fs300d ?
Great review and explanation
Great video bud!
thx man, nice video. im thinking bout getting the 200x, How could I power this from v mount or batteries?
Very interesting. Subscribed. The Sidus is a major plus. I’m now looking at this solely because of your review, sorry Godox and Nanlite.

Can you do a review on the new 200x S?
Sidus Link is an upsell bridge into their more expensive cameras.
How do you compare these type of lights to the LED panel style lights that are avail now? If you had to have one, which would you go for these days? Thanks for any tips!
Thinking the same thing. Have you discovered any info that would sway you one way or the other during the six months since you wrote this post Adam?
How does this light to compare to the cheaper brands like Neewer, small rig, and other similar $150-$300 amazon brand lights.
pricing out the 60x and 200x and this was extremely helpful, thanks for an awesome review! Deserves WAY more views. Subbed and looking forward to more videos!
cant find anyone that even has the 60x in stock. wonder if theres better luck with the 200x
Best review ever
When you were measuring the peak brightness, did you have the reflectors attached?
Great review man :)
Hi you mention about modifiers that it might not work as good how about soft boxes ?
great review thanks so much for the insight!
Can someone please recommend a case for this light? Affordable and soft is preferred
How is it in a softbox? If it's not too loud, could be a great cheap key.
Is it louder than 300x? or around the same?
So this light paired with the new Aputure power storage would be ideal on location?
This is a great review!
This channel is amazing! Thank you!
Great review, thanks
I LIKE THIS GUYS. GOOD REVIEW!
I see you have manual fx and picker fx working with the Amaran 200x, I thought that wasn't available, was it added recently?
Thanks! Very cool and useful video! 🙏👍
I have the Aperture60x and was wondering if I should get another 60x or if I should get this light due to the ability to have a wider light spread. Thanks
Is it safe to use two of these lights with a power strip and extension cord? Both strip and extension cord are rated for 15Amp, 120volts. Thanks
Great video! I'm looking to learn. Do you have an introductory video on how to choose a good lightning set for movie shoots? Ideally at competitive prices like the 200x.
still worth it for what I would use this light for. I am sure the build is decent enough
How are you powering it outside. Does it have a way of using a battery?
why would I use remote when I have the smartphone app ????
And does the 200X work with the 300X remote?
Solid review.
great video!
Amazing vídeo but please clean your camera and sensor you have a lot dots of dust
What about the amaran vs the nanlite fs300?? ....
Can you use the 2x Fresnel lens and spot light modifiers on the 200x?
I am curios why no one test is it flickering with fast shutter or not
Did you measure bare bulb or w reflector?
great information!
$540 in the UK 😭
Still might get it though
What about fan noise is it so loude like D version?
hows the fan noise?
Point of a light is light output. Any other features are nice to haves that would justify the cost by 100-200, not by 850. Great video!
Can the bulb or element be replaced?
Do you think it can pull off outdoor daylight photoshoots?
Definitely not. 200x is extremely bright indoors but no match for the sun. If you focus on photography, consider strobes with an LED modeling light.
@@BoyarsMedia I figured! I dabble in both photography and videography equally so I was looking for something that can potentially do both but I guess its either really expensive or not in the market yet 😂.

Nice opinion!
Are there any solutions to the battery power problem?
Aputure has a 2-bay Power Station that enables you to power the light with V-Mount batteries:

Thank's. You just made them bump up the prize. Now I have to buy a chinese clone. Oh, I see what you did there. ;)
It's now $100 MORE!
They bumped the price up by $100 haha, maybe they saw this vid ?
This guy looks like a younger version of Kai
