    I got a 3 speed Muncie “HD” from an early 70s 3/4 ton truck. 3.03:1 1st gear, 1.75:1 2nd gear, 1.00:1 3rd. Putting it in my 1993 c1500 behind a mild built and soon to be boosted small block Chevy. Using the hydraulic clutch conversion kit from American Powertrain. This was a helpful video for when I install the floor shifter. Paid $150 for the transmission off marketplace, new seals and bearings going in it while it’s out, and about $950 for the hydraulic clutch conversion kit. With the clutch and flywheel and other odds and ends it’s gonna be like $1750 all said and done. About $3250 cheaper than building the 4l60e and stand-alone TCM, and it’ll handle the same amount of power.

    Great video. Makes adjustment look much less intimidating. Solidified my plans to go from column to floor shift on my 66 dart. 👍

    Great video. I just bought a 80 camaro with a 3 speed. It is very hard to get into first, and I have not had a chance to get into it. I figured it was the linkage. I am not sure my transmission will be exactly the same, but this gives me a great understanding of what I can probably adjust on it. Looking forward to the video you'll make using the older shifter since I will try to get what I have to work before buying new.

    I'm wondering if switching to a 3 speed would improve driveability over my sm420. 1st is so ungodly low at 7.05:1 I never use it unless pulling out on a hill. So I'm using my 4 speed like a 3 anyway

    • @shortcutgarage

      I always thought that sm420 was like a 3 with an extra low gear. I never I’m used the low either

    I'm getting stuck in second gear and having to go under and pop it out, should I shorten or lengthen the linkage or is it just trial an error?

    • @shortcutgarage
      @shortcutgarage  2 месяца назад

      You need to align them to the pin and it’ll shift like new. Take your time, it’ll work I promise. Get a light under there and adjust them to the alignment pun

    I'm a bit confused, is it me or have you got 1st and reverse mixed up with 2nd 3rd? Second and third is usually on the shift lever nearest the front of the box (bell housing end)
