Beautiful pups! I have two of these “Golden Pyrenees” and two full-blood all white ones. Amazingly kind, gentle family dogs that keep literally everything off your property. Over the years I’ve owned Huskies, Labs and a hodge pudge of others but by far these are the best for protecting the flock, herd, family, etc. Thanks for sharing! 👍
ROFL. Do educate yourself. They are *****NOT***** "Golden Pyrenees" which is a mix of Golden Retriever and the Great Pyrenees. These are 100% livestock guardian dogs - crossbred. Livestock guardian dogs are wasted in household & similar settings as they are bred to be independent or to be exact indifferent to owners as ALL livestock guardian dogs are. Livestock guardian dogs that are chasing people off the property are ****NOT*** properly trained and usually just ill mannered aggressive mutts (like yours). A PROPERLY TRAINED livestock guardian dog will actually leave people be as long as they are not messing with what the dog is guardian.
Gary Larson did a write up on a scientist who invented a canine translator device. Using that scientist’s findings, I can determine that the dog said, “HEY!! He-e-e-y! Hey, hey!”
God, there's something proud about that... Homeboy's got your back! Sound the call, they come running. I love it. I don't mean to sound corny but their presence has power and magnificence.... I love the livestock guards
The dog who hangs back is obviously the Commander. He's the backup and the other 2 take point. He's then asking for a report. What do you guys see? Well disciplined dogs conduct themselves like a squad. Tactical discipline is evident in the way they deploy.
He's the lead woofer! It's amazing how dogs can form cohesive teams without the benefit of language. These days, they work better together than most humans do
I love these dogs. So funny and sharp. The first two dogs went ahead , the third dog was shouting " do you need me " or can you handle it. If they wanted him ,he'd be off.

the one dog stayed to protect the camera man. his barking to the two other dogs was 1. to let them know that he was staying behind 2. if they need him he would be there asap. great pack, smart, the dog who stayed behind actually seemed to think that through with slight struggle to make the right decision, he wanted to go no doubt, if the camera man wasn't there he would have went and more than likely lead that pack. the two that took off, both hauling ass at the same speed, side by side, totally silent so they could hear what #3's plan was.. awesome video, your live stock and family are in great paws! =)
It's all speculation, honestly. Certain barks do mean certain generalized things, but if there are specific messages behind them, we don't know. To me I could argue that the dog staying back is barking to let the predators know that there's backup if needed, not telling the other dogs he's staying back to protect the human, but no human knows the true meaning behind them.
It's a natural behavior with Livestock Guardians when they're in a pack. They allocate tasks, some, usually the faster (in my experience, younger) dogs will go charging ahead to be a first line of defense and try to either scare the predator away or engage it. Others will naturally stay closer to the flock as a more defensive line in case any predators are smart enough to get past the more aggressive dogs.
Zev Benjamin Cool. But I wonder how they decide who is doing what? What is the alpha dog doing? Give orders or what and how? I tried to check on Internet for more information, but it was hard to find. Perhaps I do not ask the right question? Anyway, I would love to hear a answer from a "dog expert". And also some commenters below mentioned the behaviour in the video clip above, alerted their dogs. Is that possible and how? Dog language?
How they decide who does what is more about personality and temperament than orders from the Alpha. The more aggressive or assertive a dog is, the more likely it is to take that more front-line approach. Quieter, more nurturing or low-energy dogs are going to stay back to keep their eyes on the flock. As for what the alpha dog, that one who is staying back is doing? Those barks serve as signals to predators and to other members of the guard pack that "Hey! There's danger, there's something here that we need to react to, playtime is over." That's signaled through volume and pitch of the bark, which is why people's dogs would react to the sound. They hear the pitch of the bark and that tells them exactly what its supposed to, something is up and they have to pay attention and start keeping their eyes and ears open because there could be danger.
I hike on a trail that goes by a farm. Three GPs come over and bark at me. They don't act like they want to kill me. They just want me to know they are on the job. My dog had to bark back at them. Maybe they considered my dog a threat. One time I saw the farmer, but no dogs. I told her they were doing a good job.
IF COURSE they considered your "canine" a threat. In Austria and Switzerland there is signage that indicates you do not put yourself (or your canine) between a sheep herd and the guard dogs, or expect disaster.
For large sheep herds it also works to mix different breeds, like kangals which will go chase the wolves away and even engage in fights while others stay with the herd in case there are other wolves circling around.
This is how theyre supposed to work. Its why you should have more than one LGD because they have been bred to work together. Two go to run off the predator while one stays to guard the flock or herd. Wolves have been known to try and lure away guardians and circle back to kill. This is awesome instinct actually 👍🏻 If there were 5-6, still only one or two is likely to stay back while the rest go. Its cool to watch.
One stays back to man his post. Barking a get 'em but be careful. Such well trained dogs. One always stays put. And also to perhaps guard camera man. Great video. They are playing and having fun but never off guard.
Bugsy Lion I think it’s more like the General saying, as we Marines cross the line of departure, “Go get ‘em boys, I’ll be right here when you get back”
killersushi99 lol not knowing what they are chasing .but coyotes are smart they will draw out a dog then ambush from the side. smart dogs know this and will always stay back and wait for the predators too come to them. and they never leave the heard unprotected.
@ŧώїżđэđ ľїŏή Through looking up guard dogs over the past year, I have found that different breeds react differently. The one that stays behind looks different than the other two. Depending on the breed, there are some that will charge out to the threat, as the pair did, then, there are breeds that will stay close to the area that needs protection. Looks like this person had both types, in my opinion, smart move.
what a fascinating video capturing both really awesome aspects of dogs and these breeds specifically. so silly and fun and so instinctive and on point when needed. Thanks for sharing
Great Pyrenees can be a playful high energy friend. But it can be scary to run into them when out on your mountain bike and they're guarding their herd!
I got a great Pyrenees to protect my son from mountain lions at my property i pretended to beat my son up in front of her to see how she would react and she helped me she didn't hurt him but I should have realized that if she got to know him more she would have protected him with her life they are loyal dogs. Lots of energy and big but loyal I wish I would have kept her. She lives on a farm last I heard so I hope she is happy.

Even little things like the dog towering over you while you’re in bed, you think it’s cute but to the dog it’s like he’s the leader. Sleeping in the same bed it’s sharing the alpha role. So on and so forth, each to its own… but if I’ll ever have a pup again I think I’ll want an outside pup.
I have a female Pyrenees from a breeder, with her puppyhood being spent entirely on the farm, with working parents, when my two previous Pyrenees were from pet shops. I guess they weren't produced from working lines like that. She's very gentle, but also intense in a way neither of her two predecessors were.
A PROPERLY TRAINED livestock guardian dog will actually leave people be as long as they are not messing with what the dog is guardian.
what ever the dog said, it sent my dogs into an alert attack state, so it must have been important
It got one of my dogs going as well. The others know it's the "tv".
Same here! I had to put them out so they could check it out LOL.
My shepherd went into ultra alert mode to that barking .
Gary Larson did a write up on a scientist who invented a canine translator device. Using that scientist’s findings, I can determine that the dog said, “HEY!! He-e-e-y! Hey, hey!”
He was giving out counter-ambush tactics

Dog who stayed back was like, “yeah you guys go ahead, I’ll bring up the rear!”
These days, they work better together than most humans do
That dog was having the time of his life sliding down that hill

I like the way one of them stayed, alert and barking
The last one saying, "check it out and let me know if everything is good". Love it
I love these dogs. So funny and sharp. The first two dogs went ahead , the third dog was shouting " do you need me " or can you handle it. If they wanted him ,he'd be off.
Something on the other side of that ridgeline is in for a bit of a shock!

"I plays and rolls and rolls and plays. And then I goes to work. Woof woof woof." 😊🐕🐕🐕
the one dog stayed to protect the camera man. his barking to the two other dogs was 1. to let them know that he was staying behind 2. if they need him he would be there asap. great pack, smart, the dog who stayed behind actually seemed to think that through with slight struggle to make the right decision, he wanted to go no doubt, if the camera man wasn't there he would have went and more than likely lead that pack. the two that took off, both hauling ass at the same speed, side by side, totally silent so they could hear what #3's plan was.. awesome video, your live stock and family are in great paws! =)
KevinIshere007
You seem to know what you are talking about.
I wonder how dogs know who is doing what?
Do you know and can explain?
Zev Benjamin
Cool.
My little baby chihuahua woke up from sleeping at those barks 😂 his on guard now!

Doggies are amazing and precious! One of the most unique of all!
Love how that last dog just hung back like "they've got this under control".
That was ‘snowflake’ 😁
shes not just hanging back, shes staying to protect the livestock while the other two go ahead to find out whats up.
The one barking is the guy who leans on the shovel looking down into the hole. 😁
The word you're looking for is foreman.😉
No,,, it’s the one that stayed back to watch the herd, the other two abandoned their post.
That shows how little you know of canine guard breeds You simp.

The third dog: 'They can handle it. I'll just stay here and sound like I'm part of it.'
One stays back to man his post. Barking a get 'em but be careful. Such well trained dogs. One always stays put. And also to perhaps guard camera man. Great video. They are playing and having fun but never off guard.
Wonderful to catch these amazing animals doing their job.
Two went ahead to scout while one is protecting vicinity ,its amazing how smart dogs are
*One dog stays back because if the other 2 die someone has to be alive to tell everyone how brave they were. XD*
im pretty sure one stays back to guard the sheep or cattle or whatever so that the predators do not lure them all away from what they are guarding.
Very well said
Bugsy Lion I think it’s more like the General saying, as we Marines cross the line of departure, “Go get ‘em boys, I’ll be right here when you get back”
killersushi99 lol not knowing what they are chasing .but coyotes are smart they will draw out a dog then ambush from the side. smart dogs know this and will always stay back and wait for the predators too come to them. and they never leave the heard unprotected.
@ŧώїżđэđ ľїŏή
Through looking up guard dogs over the past year, I have found that different breeds react differently.
Thanks for sharing

he is ICE -GRAZING,, the dog that stay behind to watch the livestock barks to ask " WHAT DO YOU SEE" to the other two
"You guys go get it, I'll stay here and bark"

My pup pack snapped to attention! My male Aussie even started barking🐾😁
The third dog could’ve followed along ten seconds later as a surprise backup just in case the first two engage several wolves.
@@pozloadescobar ha ha😁😁😁😁 well it’s our fault that some dogs are like that. Also we forget that dogs are a pack animal. No matter how cute they are they need an alpha leader or they’ll be one.
Hardworking Adorable babies enjoying their break.
I mean, it's hard to imagine her taking on a predator like a coyote, but I guess she can be a little hardcore when she wants to.
My dogs heard pup bark and went from asleep at my feet to charging our front front door barking with hackles raised. It's not the first time she's protected me either. We don't deserve them ❤
Doing what they were bred to do. LGDs the best type of 🐶 for sure.
